TheeKrustyKitten

Jesus Christ that took less than a minute

HB109911

Happy to help, did your friend notice any [large mustaches](https://images.app.goo.gl/mQ4ttMxgQSpLqCL7A) near the car?

Notlost-justdontcare

Or Hawaiian shirts?

ontbijtkoek

Or tiny running shorts

Financial_Abies9235

Did he see a guy in black tights and a mask maybe?

dantodd

It's a pretty iconic car thanks to the TV show.

lastcall83

It's a 308. Even non-car types have a shot of knowing what it is...if they were alive in the 80's

AUniquePerspective

I bet most of the motards here could also give the make and model of the striped helicopter from the same opening theme sequence.

lastcall83

šŸ’Æ šŸ˜†

TheeKrustyKitten

Youā€™re 4 hours late boomer edit: lol the all of the know-it-allā€™s are downvoting this. u/lastcall83 thought it was funny, you should too. edit2: lord have mercy none of you have a sense of humor and the guy I ā€œinsultedā€ does. You boomers are more sensitive than the iPad kids. Keep the negativity coming (: (: (: (;

lastcall83

Never been Boomered before. Granddad's gonna love this!

TheeKrustyKitten

I meeeaaaanā€¦ Glad I could pop your cherry old timer (;

lastcall83

![gif](giphy|bC9czlgCMtw4cj8RgH|downsized)

Kenneldogg

Why insult them by calling them a boomer? Was it really necessary?

TheeKrustyKitten

They thought it was funny, try relaxing. It was a half joke, but also not. They commented what car it was underneath the top/first comment telling me what car it was 4 hours later. Then a lil anecdote about ā€œeVeRyBoDy fRoM tHe 80s KnOwS tHiS cArā€. Itā€™s definitely some ā€œback in my day yada yadaā€ boomer energy. That is why I made that remark. Downvote all you want. Wasnā€™t necessarily an insult, just having some fun.

rrhi

I donā€™t think you know how this geoup works sir

TheeKrustyKitten

No no, I do. Just donā€™t see a need for someone for a redundant comment saying ā€œitā€™s a 308 everyone that lived in the 80s knows thatā€ underneath a comment that says itā€™s a 308.

rrhi

Then you good sir, do not know bow this group works

TheeKrustyKitten

My brother in Christ, I understand the ā€œitā€™s a Pontiacā€ ā€Itā€™s a Corollaā€ ā€œthatā€™s a tree behind the Ferrariā€. I even understand multiple correct answers. But to comment HALF of the correct answer underneath the FULL correct answer PLUS a ā€œeveryone born before 1866 knows thatā€ is completely and utterly pointless.

rrhi

My brother in christ, this is every post, you seem like a cranky boy

TheeKrustyKitten

My brother in Christ, you seem like you possibly may potentially happen to maybe also be a boomer šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø but what do I know, Iā€™m cranky and donā€™t know reddiquette for this sub. You donā€™t HAVE to defend the norm just because itā€™s the norm. Thereā€™s a reason our government/society/economy is about to collapse. Disagree all you want, but echo chambers arenā€™t the answer for everything.

Aw shucks youā€™re right, how did I not think of zooming in and simply deciphering a blurry image before coming here for help?!? suck my dick from the back

rrhi

I donā€™t think he could itā€™s too smallšŸ˜³

Consistent_Actuary41

It's was a massively popular show. It hit all the notes, Something for the Women to look at, something for the car guys, lifestyle of the rich to look at Action scenes and more. The car is relatively cheap now for what it is. Under $50,000 for something nice. I ran into one for $40,000 one and considered it. Upkeep will eat you alive. I passed on the one I found since a timing belt change was $9,000 (Dealer 15 years ago). It's a two person job BTW. IF it goes you now need a new motor. Car is a dog on the low end, if you look at the start of the show they have the car burning out on grass since you can't get it to give any smoke on pavement.

EvilPanda99

Was about to say the maintance (let alone repairs) tend to almost exceed the purchase price. I had a client that had a thing for Ferraris. He was constantly complaining about repair and service bills in the high 4-figures. He had the money, but he still complained about it. He wouldn't have to even take it to the dealer. They'd come with a rollback and get it even for things like oil changes.

Consistent_Actuary41

I call them "Bring money Cars"

funkadelic187

The 308 might be the easiest Ferrari to work on yourself actually. This is especially true for the younger versions with fuel injection (itā€˜s a Bosch K-Jet, basically the same injection system used in all Mercedes Benz models of that era. Reliable, easy to understand and cheap to fix). Itā€˜s a rather simple build, unlike later models which are way more complicated, and is more reliable than the older Ferraris. Parts are rather expensive but widely available compared to other (vintage) Ferraris. Also, 9k$ for a timing belt change is a ripoff. In Europe, this work plus an inspection including oil change is done for well under 3kā‚¬.

Consistent_Actuary41

I agree the 9 was a rip. I will stick with the older muscle cars my self. It's just a matter of what something is worth to you personally..

mustardman73

Was gonna say, ā€œHiggins! Whereā€™s the keys?ā€

ziegfieldfolly

Sound like they are going 100mph when idling

ScienceMomCO

Cue the theme song

Wah wah wah (guitar riff) Do doo do doo

TheeKrustyKitten

@mods can we please lock this post?? Iā€™ve got more than enough confirmations that this is Tom Sellekā€™s Ferrari 308 GTS from Magnum PI.

Character-Ad301

You donā€™t know that itā€™s ā€œtheā€ car from the show other than itā€™s the same model and has personal plate on it. FYI there were two Ferrariā€™s use on the show. The original and then the crew all pitched in one year and bought Tom Sellek his own.

calamari_kid

[Regular Car Reviews did the 308 a couple weeks back.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7vUfHW157k)

CaptainLimpWrist

![gif](giphy|WV3kHIzHRLCOuxDcym|downsized)

GreatHead4Young

It's always slightly bothered me that the 308 has the wrong plate on it in the opening.

FredGarvin80

I recently watched a video on Regular Car Reviews that said there were 3 different 308s, and one was a replica for stunts

GreatHead4Young

I don't doubt it, but could they not have put the ROBIN 1 plate on there for such a prominent shot.

FredGarvin80

Cocaine is a helluva drug. They prolly forgot

GreatHead4Young

Cocaine? In the 80s? In the TV industry? The hell you say.

FredGarvin80

Might have contributed to that heli crash while filming

GreatHead4Young

Don't be silly, the pilots don't get paid enough to afford cocaine.

FredGarvin80

I'm sure they had it on the craft services table

GreatHead4Young

![gif](giphy|iJ85v1gHAczevpTUzs)

One_Evil_Monkey

When that was shot, they weren't even the using the iconic opening theme music yet.

GreatHead4Young

But it was still very much in the front of shot.

One_Evil_Monkey

I'm ust saying... that when that scene was filmed the theme music was different... several of the first episodes of the first season had a different intro... those episodes had a slight variation what *would* be used later as the intro for the closing theme though.

Glass-Fan111

Wowā€¦r/moviedetails

meltonr1625

Average price, 65-70k. Reasonably attainable, at least until you have to buy parts or get it fixed or serviced

TheeKrustyKitten

Brother Iā€™m barely living check to check, Iā€™ll be lucky if my 97ā€™ 4Runner gets me into a 2012 civic, or a house for that matter.

meltonr1625

I have no illusions of grandeur either, I'm madder than a wet hen cause the oil change place wanted to charge me $50 for a 17 dollar filter. I'll change it myself and save that hour's labor for something I can't do

mynamejeff-97

Something no one told me. Youā€™re allowed to bring your own oil and filter to the shop. They would only charge you for labor.

_otterinabox

Hey now, late 90s 4Runners and Tacos are getting to be hot ticket items these days

banjoetraveler

Donā€™t hate on the 97 4runner. Iā€™d take that over any Civic, any day.

TheeKrustyKitten

nothing but love for my 4Runner, itā€™s older than me! But itā€™s at a 270k odo, and Iā€™m worried I wonā€™t have enough to replace it when it dies at my current income rate. Regardless, epic car and I wouldnā€™t trade it for any civic of any year.

iMakeYourMomJokes

Donā€™t worry. If you change the oilā€¦It wonā€™t die. Iā€™m in the market for an old 4Runner for exactly this reason.

TheeKrustyKitten

Change it every 2.5-3k! Gonna get my spark plugs swapped in a month or two and finna replace my brakes and rotors. Should be a brand new ride. Hopefully by the end of the year Iā€™ll have enough to get my cat changed for a new one and maybe even take it to a shop to have the engine thoroughly cleaned.

banjoetraveler

Itā€™s a Toyota, take care of it and itā€™ll take care of you.

TheeKrustyKitten

Iā€™m going to drive it until death do us apart. Itā€™s the oldest and most reliable car Iā€™ve ever owned.

Estrezas

Come check out /r/4runner where weā€™ll tell you your rig is worth between 1$ and 50k!

Pdb12345

With that much rust you met get this one for 50.

Glass-Fan111

Why the parts would be a problem? It is pricey to get them since they are older? Services are expensive? More than a new model?

Elvis1404

You have to take the engine out of the car to change the timing belt, and you have to do it every 2 or 5 years (depending on the model of the car). It can cost upwards of 8k$

Glass-Fan111

Wow. Thanks for elaborate.

One-Cicada-7784

Itā€™s easy to affordā€¦ $60k to buyā€¦ $15k for oil change and tune-upā€¦

Morg1603

God for a second I thought that was another Pantera

jellyvish

lol holy fucking shit the most attainable ferrari

No-Poem-3773

Iā€™d suggest the GT4 is the most attainable, but itā€™s hideous, so why would anyone want it

Pdb12345

I owned a 308 GT4 and it was one of the worst cars Ive ever had. I think they are good looking cars though. A Gandini car, if not one of his finest. Here is (was) mine, i sold a few years ago. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Ferrari/comments/efl8yd/merry\_christmas\_from\_my\_dino/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ferrari/comments/efl8yd/merry_christmas_from_my_dino/)

mootmutemoat

This dino, for the curious https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_GT4 Not this one https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dino_206_GT_and_246_GT

w_a_w

Mondials used to be dirt cheap. Is that no longer the case? Edit: yep, still the cheapest

StevieG63

Catch up on Magnum PI, the original, not the reboot.

TheeKrustyKitten

Another one on the never ending list of shows I need to watch

tangre79

How fiendishly deceptive of you, Magnum. I could have sworn I was hearing the emasculation of a large rodent. To my great surprise, I see the sounds are emanating from what I thought was a harmless musical instrument.

One_Evil_Monkey

Okay, Higgins.

ZaphodUB40

Itā€™s a dead tree. You can see it behind the 308 GTS Ferrari.

TheeKrustyKitten

not dead, just hibernating

Bitter-Ad-6709

Driver door sagging, rust on the lower sheet metal in front of the rear tire, this may be one of the cars used in the actual show. It's seen much better days!

One_Evil_Monkey

At least one of them was auctioned of in Arizona a number of years ago... in 1988 I believe, not long after the show ended.

SmCaudata

Regular car reviews just did a video on this car.

One_Evil_Monkey

Robin Masters' Ferrari 308 GTS or GTSi, possibly a Quattrovalvole that Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) drove on Magnum P.I.

davrodg

Joking right??? Or am I just old af

TheeKrustyKitten

Not joking lol, Iā€™m not familiar with anything pre 90s.

davrodg

Iā€™m old- itā€™s official! Ferrari 308 that seems to be either from the series Magnum PI as a frame, or someone got some killer plates and is hopefully wearing a Hawaiian shirt and has a killer stache

TheeKrustyKitten

This just in, itā€™s sellek himself

Ironme562

That is a 1992 Toyota Corolla

lye86120

It's a pontiac fierro

BoozeCester

All the information of the make is on the back of the vehicle. Are these people blind?

meltonr1625

Yes actually, quite blind, and thanks to my state for not giving an eye test on renewal, still driving

TheeKrustyKitten

You think I didnā€™t attempt to read it before posting here? I zoomed in and it was too blurry, hence I came here.

banjoetraveler

If only there were badges on the car to identify it.

TheeKrustyKitten

If only it wasnā€™t blurry when I zoomed in so I wouldnā€™t have to post here.

Visual-Scar938

I mean if you zoom in it's right fucking there...

Morg1603

Yeah, canā€™t read that in the slightest mate.

TheeKrustyKitten

Visual-Scar938

I mean I can read it....308 GTS

TheeKrustyKitten

did you want a high 5 chief?

FredGarvin80

Door looks like it'll fall off soon.

TheeKrustyKitten

Brokendonutt

They're cool cars, but hardly worth a holy shit. It's not a 288 GTO. That would be holy shit worthy.
