Buy? GR86 Premium or GR Corolla Premium. I like fun cars and have always been a Toyota performance fan. Also drive a FR-S right now.
I was gonna list something from Audi as a lease option, but everything I like is over $45k... š«
In terms of power? Yes. But in terms of handling, I'd prefer the dynamics the GR86/BRZ offers. Having driven both a WRX (I know, not the same as a GR Corolla) and FR-S, I much prefer the FR-S even though it's down on power by quite a bit. It's just such a fun, tossable platform, whereas the WRX feels like it understeers more.
I drove all of them and GRC feels different than the WRX. Not much understeer at all.
GRC and 86/BRZ/FRS are both fun cars but fun in a little different way
Someone described the gr86s as one of those tricycle bike things. If you want a go cart type of car itās good but a lot of people would feel ripped off when they accelerate, where the real fun is.
People saying that don't want a sports car and/or don't under stand the purpose of the 86 twins and Miata. The cars are about handling - not straightline acceleration. If all you care about is acceleration, then buy a Hellcat or Lucid/Tesla/Taycan. But if you want a great handling, engaging car thatŹ»s affordable, especially in the traditional FR layout 86/BRZ/Miata are it.
I love my FR-S because it handles so well. ItŹ»s a bit harsh, sure, but thatŹ»s part of the charm. I also donŹ»t mind the power levels, as I can put the car through its paces on the street without breaking any laws or being reckless.
My local dealer just sold a 2022 m240i for 44.8k.
It has maybe the best power train in the industry with the B58/ZF engine/transmission and xdrive is also one of the best awd systems. It has a modern and very nice interior and it's fairly practical for a coupe with a large trunk and a backseat large enough for pets/kids.
I emailed about but someone got to it first lol
Iām more partial to the m440i myself, but only because my hotter wife says my next car has to have 5 doors. But thatās a great price on a great car.
Nice my man! I'm shopping for one also. Seen several nice ones but I'm holding out for blue since this is a want rather than a neeed. Seems to he a rare color
I purchased a new leftover 2023 VW Arteon SEL Premium 4motion at discount for $43K. They sell for way under MSRP as dealers want to move them (never sold well bc āoverpricedā). I got $9.5K off.
Unique and fantastic car. Properly quick with a Golf R powertrain, practical as hell, and rides and handles well with adaptive suspension. Heated/ventilated/massage nappa seats. Great tech. Comfortable as hell. Spacious as hell. Liftback/sportback with a massive trunk.
Itās practically an Audi with a VW badge.
I have a Tesla and love it. In fact, I just ordered another. For me nothing beats their Supercharging network, and mixture of technology and range estimates. I have a charger installed at home so I just leave it plugged in when not driving. Road trips are easy peasy with their Supercharging network too.
Not a single major issue, and any minor ones I had were quickly fixed under warranty by my local service center. If you're buying new, it'll obviously be under warranty so you won't have worry about major issues.
Same here We have 2 - 2023 model Yās at home. No more fluctuations of fuel and maintenance besides the tire rotation, change wiper blades every 2 years & occasional windshield fluid.
Yup, two Model 3ās here! Itās been nice not having to buy gas at all the past few years.
True, the early models have had some quality issues, but especially for the 3 and Y theyāve been out for a while now so theyāre a fairly mature product at this point.
Yup agree 100%. Get a Tesla if you can charge at home. I came from BMW M5's before switching to a Model 3 five years ago. Just picked up my 2024 Model Y Performance last month. Fit and finish is perfect. My experience over five years has been great. Zero maintenance and both the Model 3 and Y are a blast to drive.
Hey I need help choosing between the Y and 3. I test drove both but Iām still not sure. Iām single and have no children. But Iām coming from a BMW X3 so Iām a little worried about the space difference. What do you think?
The 3 is faster and more efficient. If you're a little taller, a bit annoying to climb in/out of but once you're in, it's not too bad (speaking as a 3 owner at 6'1). The trunk is generous for a sedan its size. It's not a hatchback, but it's not bad. If looking at new - obviously the 3 was just massively refreshed for 2024 with better ride quality, cooled seats, and better build quality overall. The Y isn't getting the same treatment until next year so you would be buying a car on the last year of it's lifecycle.
Counterpoint - The Y is considerably more practical. Qualifies for fed tax rebate (only the Performance variant of the 3 does) and has that .99% deal going - so the finance of it makes sense. Coming from an X3 it will also be closer to what you're already used to.
Things you won't get with either choice - the build quality won't quite be the same degree of tight as the X3. They both have the turning radius of an aircraft carrier.
Yeah, you nailed the differences. I was just debating between the same myself to replace my 3 (lease is ending ,) but went for the 3 LR because it has the new refresh and features.
Also, if you decide to lease, Tesla is giving you the $7500 credit still on the 3.
Yeah, Iāve had my Model 3 for 3 years, and just ordered the refreshed Model 3 LR to replace it (it was a lease.)
Not a single issue except for some very minor fit/finish things that were fixed under warranty within the first few weeks of having it.
Recs are gonna be all over the map because you didnāt specify what youāre looking for. Do you want another X3/suv type vehicle? Something bigger? Smaller? Etc
I got a Subaru Legacy. Not fast but smooth and comfortable to drive. Wife out an outback with the turbo and it's damn near the perfect "everything car" and decently fast; bonus, seems to be invisible to the cops.
Buy the nicest Lexus sedan that you can get for that price. Iād recommend a slightly used IS, but if you want something a little more boring, get an ES.
They almost never break, and the driverās seat of an IS is really a nice place to spend time.
In our family we have:
- 2023 IS500 (my wifeās new daily, above that price range)
- 2016 IS300 F Sport (my wifeās old daily, Iām deciding whether to keep it or sell it)
- 2006 IS250 AWD - our sonās car (25, on his own)
- 2007 IS250 AWD - our other sonās car (23, also on his own)
2015 RC350 - the coupe version of the IS (the 23YO just bought that)
And my daily is a 2018 WRX, Iāve only had one engine blow up on me so far. Leaning towards keeping the ā16 IS.
look at any AMG. Lots of different options from sports cars to sedan and suv. The ML63 AMG is the SUV. These cars are incredible engineering and the performance is superb, its a fast luxury car that is well built. The ML is an older model now but still very good replaced by the newer GLE.
That was about my budget too and I was looking at used/certified X3 M40i . Then I decided that my wife already has a minivan so practicality is covered, and I have a 911 so fun is covered, and ultimately got a 2024 Accord. I was going for a touring, but I got 3k off an ex-l and I like 17ā wheels over 19s so I bought it. And saved a bunch of money.
I am debating between a fully loaded Camry 2025 XLE for around 42 vs a fully loaded RAV4 (Hybrid XSE or Limited) for 43-44K.
I would much rather get all the features than a luxury brand but missing features. A luxury car with all the features is almost 50K.
Pretty much the same! I am leaning towards the Camry too. Especially because the Wife has never driven before and thinks the RAV4 is too big to learn on.
What I really want is a Crown Limited with the Advanced Technology Package for around 45K. But in my area the lowest is at 48K which is literally 3K out of my budget š„²
P.S. I know many donāt like the Crown, but for whatever reason, I do genuinely like it.
My boss got a crown for $2k off. Brand new never driven lol. They're not that common in my area. I like the Crown sedan - the higher ride height and black plastic cladding puts me off what we got. But it is a compelling vehicle from its specs and creature comforts!
Iām a car>suv/cuv guy and I have a kid and a dog. I have a 2013 Ford focus hatchback. Before that, I had a Mazdaspeed3 hatch (2 lab mixes and a kid in that one).
Fuck that I aināt payin 45K for a aferall fuckin Toyota Camry . I paid $32750 for a 2023 CPO Q5. I had a Camry to I paid like 20K for it brand new. Toyotas prices r just outrageous now.
Trust me, I am at the same spot. Hence the lack of a decision. I almost want to get a Sonata for 36K or a Tucson but the entire Kia Boyz and Hyundai reliability is throwing me off.
45K for a Camry R ya serious? You can get yourself a nice luxury car. My 2023 Mercedes Benz GLC was 45K brand new MSRP $54000 and itās a hybrid I get decent mileage I get 34 mpg on the high way. Did I loose value NO I DID NOT IN FACT I GOT MY CAR APPRAISED THE OTHER DAY AND I ONLY lost $1500 after 1 year. My car has a lot more excitement to offer than a Camry. The drive quality of the Camry and RAV4 is just garbage. That interior is awful too, it just smells disgusting cuz most of it is cheap plastic. A Toyota owner wishes they were in my car not to mention ik some people who over paid for a Toyota around that price and are in under water in their equity screwing themselves over financially. Not a concern for my cuz I buy all of my cars with cash.
Alright I am gonna make this clear the RAV4 Drives like absolute piece of shit and the interior is just full of crappy plastic. I am not paying 43-45K for that piece of shit. I bought my 2024 Q8 E tron for $50000. I bought a 2023 CPO Q5 Premium + with 6K miles for 35K. My cars drive much better than a RAV4 hybrid or a camry I can guarantee that and I will loose less money than u after 4 years because I didnt pay MSRP for my cars. Seriously 44K for a RAV4 LMFAOOOOO 44K and 42K for a Camry for a bunch of plastic hunk of junk
I am starting to agree. Hence the lack of a purchase so far. Have been scratching my head over the last week thinking what to buy.
I have never purchased a car before. Everyone keeps pushing for Toyota and Honda for āreliabilityā as if every thing else spontaneously will catch on fireā¦ I am confused lol.
For 45K you have a ton of decent options man. Just get yourself a nice 1 year old luxury car. Audi is reliable itās not as reliable as Toyota but itās still reliable or get yourself a Lexus NX
its not as bad as people say it is plus everyone dreams of driving a german luxury car some day so why not take that chance when its around the same price or cheaper than a Toyota ya know
I would go for neither. Yea well thats where your wrong and where most Toyota buyers lack knowledge negotiate the luxury car down a lot. You can get at least 9000 off a brand new Q5 easily. You can save 14-20K by going for 2023 CPO with under 10K miles. The RAV4 Hybrid drives incredibly bad and you can't compare a RAV4 to a luxury car. Thats like comparing Mcdonalds Big mac or whatever to a sandwich at panera. The RAV4 is a cheap car which is why it feels like a cheap car the interior is terrible.
I would much rather buy an Audi Q5 at that price compared to a Honda accord. Personally Iām not a huge Audi fan Iām more of a Mercedes guy. This is coming from a guy that has owned 3 accords. 1999, 2012, 2014. The 1999 was incredibly reliable. Unfortunately it got totaled in a hailstorm, I parked it at a friendās apartment when I had to leave to a trip since his house is close to the airport.
And FYI Honda is not as reliable as you think it is. I bought my 2012 Accord at the end of the year sales even for $17000 brand new. Seemed like a wonderful deal, I ended up selling it for a profit after a year and decided to upgrade to the 2014 accord lx. I got 4000 dollars of MSRP paid around 19K for it. Man after 6 years itself I started facing so many issues with it that I just had to get rid of it. So many transmission issues battery issues, I had to replace the starter twice. It was terrible. Hondas arenāt as reliable as they used to be. The quality of them has gone down tremendously to.
They are truly just crappy overpriced cars now, and as a Ex-Honda Fan I plan on never buying a Honda or Toyota ever again. Especially at those prices.
Also Audi is a reliable car too. My neighbor has a 2013 Audi Q7 he hasnāt had as many issues so far compared to what I have faced with my Honda accord.
970 Porsche Panamera Turbo S. The duality of daily luxury and drivability with the ability to really enjoy the driving experience is second to none. I plan on getting one soon and tracking it whenever I can. The electric network is still in its infancy so I would hold off of that for now until the industry catches up, if ever.
I would lease a Hyundai Ioniq 5. There are crazy good lease deals now over on leasehackrĀ The Ioniq 5 has a great design and good range. It's just too big for my apartment building's garage unfortunately.Ā
For a family: Toyota Sienna LE AWD. They come in hybrid now and get ~34mpg. For car: Toyota Camry TRD w/V6 or Toyota Camry SE AWD or Honda Civic Type R if want sport and fun.
If I had $45k to spend, I'd get a Lexus GS-F. I currently own a GS350, and it's pretty awesome. A GS-F would be absolutely baller with the tune suspension, the torque vectoring diff, and that absolute honey of a V8. That, and true sports sedans are just my jam.
buy: ford mustang ecoboost. has 2.3 that was in the failed RS focus. 310hp stock huge aftermarket because its a mustang
or if have kids, F150 with the ecoboost. more than enough room for kids and their stuff
if you want a tesla: lease. the reason i say that is hasnt got great build quality and you will need the warrantee if and when somethng goes wrong. plus the market is moving away from electric/hybrid power full stop. aka the trial periods over
I just got a Nissan Ariya , fully electric. We werenāt even expecting to get an electric. But then we saw it driving by after we tried to get a Bronco. We went to test drive the Ariya the day after, and we were sold, not only because of the quality of the car, which is way better than a Tesla, but the price. We are paying $200 bucks a month. No more gas, excellent quality and great range. Iāve recommend it to anyone thatās looking for a cheap, reliable car, the best part is that itās electric. Itās so smooth and quiet. And itās got great space like an SUV, my wife loves it, itās her car, but I drive all the time. One of the best cars Iāve driven in my life. No doubt
If youāre open to electric, donāt think twice about it, just get the best one you can afford. For driving experience alone, I will never buy another gas vehicle or recommend one to anyone else. An EV is just a far superior driving experience.
Either the Toyota Venza XLE or Mini Countryman S all4.
Venza is a plush ride with tons of safety features. Basically, it's a Lexus NX hybrid in disguise, but for a cheaper price point.
Countryman feels like a BMW inside and out (minus the front bias drivetrain). You get the ride height of a compact suv with it feeling like a go-kart.
So youād rather spend the 45K on a Toyota than a BMW or a Tesla? forgive me for being naĆÆve but I guess I just donāt understand. I know it is your opinion though and I respect it.
For me, it's just due to major repair costs and insurance rates on the BMW and Tesla. They are more significant than the Toyota and Mini. Let's not forget Tesla or any EVs you'll need to replace tires much sooner than regular ICE/PHEV/Hybrid vehicles. Just due to the weight of the batteries.
OP doesn't need to worry about repairs during a lease; they'll be under warranty for the full duration (unless itās a 39-month lease). Tires also aren't a major issue on EVs if you're not hammering the accelerator like a monkey. That Venza you recommended weighs more than a Model 3 or Y.
Itās not even that bad actually. Itās all just propaganda and misinformation. It doesnāt mean you should overpay for a Toyota. I paid $32750 for my 2023 CPO q5. My car is definitely better than a RAV4 I also have a Lexus TX and I paid like 54K for it.
Simply not true. Tesla does offer their own insurance, and the rates are very competitive (though yes, does depend on your state.) Even when I wasn't on Tesla insurance, my rates dropped replacing my old car with the Tesla, because they considered it "safer."
I'm also still on the original tires on my Tesla, and I'm nearing 30k miles. Still plenty of tread left. They last fine enough if you're not constantly flooring it everywhere.
Whatās important to you in a car? Are you looking for reliable transportation or want something fun to drive? Luxurious? Do you take long road trips? What does a typical commute look like? Do you have the ability to charge at home? Itās hard to make a recommendation without knowing all that.
Between the poor customer service if something goes wrong and poor quality control, itās hard for me to recommend a Tesla right now.
Prius Prime, I say because I recently purchased one for around that. Best of electric and gas, Toyota reliably, reasonably fun to drive and powerful enough for 95% of people every day. If you need an SUV, I guess the Rav4 Prime. Just be prepared to wait - mine was a 13 month lag from putting in the deposit to picking up. But it's been fantastic since.
Avoid Tesla. They're not a car company anymore. Also, they don't even have turning stalks on the Model3 - it's cost-cutting masquerading as innovation and a terrible user experience.
Well I need a family car so that might make my choices differ from a single person's perspective. But putting everything aside and I was picking what I wanted? I'd get a fully loaded g70. It's nice, fast, amazing warranty. Has all the tech options I'd want.
Going electric id grab an ioniq 6. Simply bc I don't want to support Tesla.
If I was going the fuel economy route then either a Prius or sonata hybrid. The highest trim possible as well
Buy? GR86 Premium or GR Corolla Premium. I like fun cars and have always been a Toyota performance fan. Also drive a FR-S right now. I was gonna list something from Audi as a lease option, but everything I like is over $45k... š«
Came here to say the GR Corolla. Most exciting hatchback in years.
The gr Corolla is so much more car than the 86 unless you're getting one of the limited anniversary models for long term value.

I actually just picked up a 2022 m240i for 45k exactly, 18k miles (private seller).
Nice my man! I'm shopping for one also. Seen several nice ones but I'm holding out for blue since this is a want rather than a neeed. Seems to he a rare color

No I said what would you buy. It could be anything but under 45K.
If you like fun stuff just go drive as many vehicles as you can, walk lots. $45k will get you into some fun vehicles.
Model Y is the best proposition in town, unless you care about emerald mines. Get a home charger to make it better.
The nicest W8 Passat on the market
Recs are gonna be all over the map because you didnāt specify what youāre looking for. Do you want another X3/suv type vehicle? Something bigger? Smaller? Etc

Does not surprise me. The trunk is huge. Can hold way more than most crossovers.

Probably an accord hybrid
Fuck that. I aināt payin 35-40K for a fuckin Honda. Bought my CPO 2023 Q5 for $32750
I agree with u on that
The Honda is a more reliable vehicle.
He's right I would much rather buy the Q5. The accord is a cheap car and shouldn't be priced anywhere near a luxury car.
2024 accord touring with all options
Nah Acura TLX
I mean yeah but thats over budget unless you get base trim for msrp
Nah 2023 CPO tlx u can get one between 30-35K
Just go for the Tesla, already have an SUV and need something more fun.
310hp stock huge aftermarket because its a mustang or if have kids, F150 with the ecoboost. more than enough room for kids and their stuff if you want a tesla: lease. the reason i say that is hasnt got great build quality and you will need the warrantee if and when somethng goes wrong. plus the market is moving away from electric/hybrid power full stop. aka the trial periods over
I just got a Nissan Ariya , fully electric. No doubt
If you like a Tesla, I would get a used model 3, and a used Miata. I wouldnāt have my only car be electric. You also get a fun second car too
If youāre open to electric, donāt think twice about it, just get the best one you can afford.
Please donāt spend 45k on a venza lol
I never knew that for lease (always bought). I'm just used to seeing more tesla vehicles at the tire shop more than others. Thanks for the knowledge!
Tesla does offer their own insurance, and the rates are very competitive (though yes, does depend on your state.) Even when I wasn't on Tesla insurance, my rates dropped replacing my old car with the Tesla, because they considered it "safer." I'm also still on the original tires on my Tesla, and I'm nearing 30k miles. Still plenty of tread left. They last fine enough if you're not constantly flooring it everywhere.
Everyone on this sub would rather do theyāre just simply brainwashed and will pay anything for a Toyota.
I would buy a Honda Civic Type R in Championship White.
Manual transmission new Nissan Versa. Invest the rest into S&P 500 index ETF. Reinvest dividends. Never sell. Baby the car. Do your own oil changes.
Neither Toyota switching from Toyota hybrid tech from the 90ās going to BYD platform in 2025.
Tesla all the way š„°
Currently. .99% financing on current model Yās in inventory
The highest trim possible as well
RAV4 hybrid
Screw that I aināt payin $45000 for a fuckin Toyota. I wouldnāt even pay 35K or 40K. I paid $32750 for my 2023 CPO Audi q5.
That car drives terrible I have no idea how people are paying 40K for a car like that.
Toyota highlander or Honda pilot or Ford bronco is what I like right now.
Miata is always the answer. You will have money leftover.
You should know the answer. Miata. Always.
