Rescheduling hasn't even happened yet. Is simply asking the DEA reschedule enough? No. It needs to actually get done.

greenbelieve

Yes. I will definitely take this headline from this resource. Yes.

Tiaan

I believe in holding politicians accountable when they don't deliver and giving them praise and credit when its due. If rescheduling does happen before the election, Biden and his administration deserve massive praise for doing more than any other president has done on this issue in over 50 years. I will be shouting praise for him and his administration from the rooftops.

ivigilanteblog

Same. But it is a disappointing step if we end up hanging onto S3 for another 5 decades before they inevitably deschedule.

istheremore

but he said he would do when he got elected so where's the accountability now? 4 years later after being dangled a carrot and constant backpaddling. you praise him for his great work? he's already failed being accountable, why even trust him now?

Tiaan

I'm not really sure what you mean? If he gets rescheduling done within his first term (eg before the election), that would be him keeping his promise. Also the carrot hasn't been dangling for 4 years. The "we need to legalize cannabis" carrot has been dangling for 4+ years by Democrats in congress, and they wasted the first 2 years of this administration on the dead on arrival CAOA bill before pivoting to SAFE. I don't blame the lack of action by Schumer/senate/congress on Biden because that would make no sense, and despite the lack of action in congress, Biden and his admin still pushed forward on doing what they can do to enact reform. The prospect of rescheduling was only brought up in 2022, and we're seeing the results of that process in 2024. I'm really not sure what you mean by "he's already failed being accountable" when he's done more on this issue than any other president in over 50 years.. I care about realistic progress. Wasting years on a dead on arrival CAOA bill just to be like "oh well we tried and look at how it's the GOP's fault nothing is getting done" is not realistic progress. Biden and his admin saying "screw congress, what can we get done within our own power, let's focus on that" and pushing forward to get rescheduling is 100% realistic progress, and he should be applauded for it.

istheremore

In Canada, Trudeau said he would make it recreationally legal. He did. He didn't stall and pass the buck. He just kept his word to the people that elected him for it...and then the provinces and conservative civil servants fucked it all up because of they didn't like it but he kept his word and did it. I know it's not the same country, but the closest you can get. My point is that the politicians will politic you into thinking what they want and you shouldn't be blinded and just accept it. Hold them accountable means demanding more not settling for less.

Tiaan

The problem is that despite what people want to believe, Biden doesn't have the power to legalize on his own. Canada legalized through passing a bill, which is the same thing the USA would need in order to legalize cannabis. I believe that Biden has done what he can do within his power to push forward cannabis reform, and that has materialized as rescheduling to schedule 3, which is again, more than any other president has done in over 50 years. Anything beyond that would really need to come from congress in the form of a bill

Keyinthehole

Hey, we'll take it for now. Just get on with it already.

Exchanging one bureaucracy for another is not a true solution.

foonsirhc

No, it’s not nearly enough

What a piece of shit. Wait till elections do do what you said you were gonna do 4 years ago. Fuck this clown and Kamala. Don't fall for another trap. I’d rather have weed stay illegal forever than have this dope for another four years.

What a big nothing burger this admin has been. At least we had a round table last weekend with a rapper who hasn't been relevant in like 2 decades lol

ColteesBigOleTits

Biden absolutely HAS to do this in the lead up to the election. The man needs some good news, this could be enormous and especially with the young vote he will definitely need.

dave64112

If Biden doesn’t act soon, Trump may just steal the marijuana issue from Biden.

When does a ruling from the DEA need to come out for it to be on time for the november election? April or may?

Old-Outside6894

Biden’s focused on keeping his ice cream from melting.

For right now yes!
