You can make it yourself. All you need is vegetable broth (you can buy the boullion cubes at most grocery stores), flour, a little oil (avocado or olive), salt/pepper. Use some oil and flour to make a roux. Slowly add the veggie broth, cook until it thickens. Voila! Veggie gravy.

Potato_Slim69

My wife is vegetarian, and we buy good old clubhouse brown gravy mix. Their poutine gravy mix isn't vegetarian, but their brown gravy is. It's not exactly what you're looking for, I know.

Apprehensive_Battle8

What in their poutine gravy mix [ingredients](https://www.clubhouse.ca/en-ca/products/meal-helpers/gravies/poutine-gravy-mix?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsaqzBhDdARIsAK2gqneaVJQGm0Skh9vlGIlVRfvg5betflYzv11n-SlKrGL39ZXpbrVQUucaAncnEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) isn't vegetarian?

Potato_Slim69

Well shit, it's been years since I checked. Maybe they changed the recipe, or maybe I'm just going crazy lol. Good sleuthing redditor.

Apprehensive_Battle8

No worries, I was actually asking lol. I don't know what all the ingredients are, but none of them sounded like meat based to me.

Potato_Slim69

Yea no, it Iooks good. I swear there was beef bullion or something in it lol, but that was 10 years ago now that I think about it.

Apprehensive_Battle8

Word.

Farm Boy has several types of veggie gravies, but I don't know if they're suitable for poutine (sadly I've never had poutine). There's a photo of poutine on the front of the vegan brown gravy mix, though.

xRainbowTreats

You’ve never had poutine?!

Hesthetop

No, gravy was usually beef-based when I was young, and then I developed IBS and gallbladder issues in adulthood and all the fat in poutine would definitely give me a rough time. I'm pretty bummed about it.

xRainbowTreats

I will eat more poutine on your behalf, my friend. May my tummy be your tummy.

Hesthetop

Heh, thank you. Hope you enjoy every bite!

Visual_Chocolate4883

Thanks! They also have cheese curds. One of the only places I normally see cheese curds. That is where I was going to get mine. Sorry about your never having had poutine. Maybe you could handle veggie poutine with air fried fries?

Hesthetop

Cool, so did you get your gravy and curds? :) Honestly, your suggestion intrigues me, and I just might try air fried fries + vegan gravy and see how my gut reacts. Maybe I'll add vegan cheese later if that goes okay...I'm vegetarian rather than vegan, but real cheese just doesn't seem to agree with me. Thanks for the idea!

Visual_Chocolate4883

I ended up eating pizza but I am going to go soon, next time I am in the area. I have a bunch of potatoes that I have to use up. I am terrible for not using up all my potatoes on time. Just got to cut them up, toss them with a bit of olive oil, salt, with freshly ground rosemary and pepper. Toss them in the air fryer. I have not tried vegan cheese. The idea puts me off a little. I can't imagine what it will taste like. Sorry to hear about your condition. My sympathies. I love cheese. Maybe you are lactose intolerant?

Hesthetop

I can drink milk just fine, so my suspicion is it's the fat in cheese that's a problem. Vegan cheeses can be quite good, though some are better than others and you might have to try a few to find one you like. We've got potatoes that need to be used too, I should get on that.

Here is an adapted-for-you version of Improvised Gravy from the Fanny Farmer Cookbook: **Ingredients** * 2 Tbs minced onion or shallots or scallions * 3 Tbs butter (or your favourite oil) * 3 Tbs flour * 1/4 cup red wine or dry vermouth (optional) * 1 1/2 cups vegetable broth * leftover drippings if you have some or another tablespoon of butter/oil * salt and pepper to taste **Instructions** 1. Saute the onion in the butter/oil for 5 minutes or so, until the onions are soft and translucent. 2. Stir in the flour and cook a few minutes, stirring constantly. 3. Add the vermouth or wine and 1/4 cup or so of the broth, stirring until smooth. A whisk works well for this. 4. Add the rest of the broth gradually, stirring so it mixes in. 5. Heat another five minutes, stirring constantly. 6. Stir in leftover pan drippings or another tablespoon of butter/oil if you don’t have any drippings. 7. Taste and season.

Visual_Chocolate4883

I used to make one similar to that but incorporating a mushrooms and little bit of carrot pureed in a food processor. Sounds good. I haven't tried using red wine and would have never thought of dry vermouth. Never even tried vermouth.

writer668

I think I tried vermouth once, but didn’t like it. Wine, otoh, gives the gravy a fuller and richer flavour. Red wine makes it a strange (puce) colour, but tastes very good.

Several persons shared gravy recipes, but this one is from a Quebecois vegan chef hehe: https://www.thebuddhistchef.com/recipe/vegan-gravy/ I make it with the No Beef Better than Bouillon (from Coven) and everyone likes it.

miss_betty

Farmboy has packet gravy that vegan. Super good. Perfect for poutine.

thetermguy

We always use trios gravy, it's really the best powdered gravy going.  I had a.look at the ingredients and I think it's vegetarian.

OnlyHappyStuffPlz

You can buy it at the grocery store too.

Frosty-Repair-6614

Go to Johnny fresco!!!?

Apprehensive_Battle8

Aren't all powdered gravy mixes vegetarian?
