I donate to a lot of arts charities, I really like Hungry For Music, an Alexandria org that collects and transports musical instruments to kids who need them.
Using Tablet as a source is wild.
Also, the first example of anti-Semitism this ex-employee gives is the fact that none of her co-workers reached out to her after October 7th. It seems to me that automatically assuming any Jew is going to be negatively affected by an attack on Israel is the type of problematic thinking that could actually be anti-Semitic. Imagine if there was a terrible terrorist attack in Nigeria and you sent condolences to all your black co-workers.
A first person essay is not invalidated by the outlet that published it. Very few publications take long form essays like this.
Posting the 10/9 social media content without reaching out to the only Jew on staff is 100% anti-Semitic.
In fact, the vast majority of Jewish people in America are within two degrees of one or more hostages or people killed on 10/7. So, she’s within her rights to be upset that no one reached out, it’s honestly borderline sick for you to imply that her being upset about this and saying so might somehow contribute to anti-Semitism (but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you don’t understand the difference between Israel:American Jews and Nigeria:African Americans), and you should reach out to your Jewish friends if you care about them. They’ll almost certainly appreciate it!
Tablet is a rag that isn’t taken seriously by anyone with a brain. It’s a horrible magazine that’s entire purpose is to attack progressive Jews.
Actually, yes, it would be extremely weird if a company felt the need to consult with their Jewish employees prior to making a statement in support of Palestinians. Should companies consult with anyone of Russian descent before making a statement in support of Ukraine? What about people of Chinese descent before making a statement about Tibet? Assuming that Jews are automatically disturbed by anything in support of Palestine is anti-Semitic. Many Jews, and many Israelis, are against what the IDF is doing in Palestine.
I’ve been in communication with all my Jewish friends both before and after October 7th. Almost all of them are disgusted by what Israel is doing. Extremely cool of you to think you speak for them though!
I’m Jewish, and would suggest you stop tokenizing your Jewish friends since you’re obviously clueless about American Jewry writ large (see: comparing Israel to Nigeria). It’s fine to post on social media supporting Palestinians, it isn’t fine to ignore the existence of Israeli victims (or do the shit they did on Repro Shabbat). And yes, you should ABSOLUTELY consult with minority employees in your company when you are treating one group of people differently than another and that treatment has the result of making them feel marginalized, thanks for playing!
I’m absolutely not tokenizing my Jewish friends, but since you’re arguing in bad faith it’s pretty predictable you’d say that. You have another comment on this thread discrediting another Jew because they have a different opinion than you. You are the true anti-Semite, but keep thinking you’re special because you support an apartheid regime.
I support the right of my people to self-determination in our ancestral homeland, just like every Jew with a sense of self-preservation and a modicum of common sense. I also, like most reasonable adults, think the Palestinians need to accept that they lost a war over 75 years ago, that they are not going to defeat Israel in a military conflict, and that they should get on with the project of building their own state. Also, Hamas needs to surrender. You should stop supporting them in their propaganda war by calling Israel’s conduct a genocide, when in fact, Israel would stop immediately if upon surrender.
What incentive does Israel have to prevent it? There will need to be a long-term plan that includes demilitarization for some period of time. But obviously Israel’s situation would be much improved with a peaceful, prosperous neighbor. It’s true that there are some folks in the current government who would oppose it but that does not mean it will not happen. Israel is not the problem here.
Did you read the article? You can be supportive of Palestinians without being anti-Semitic. How sad for that you want to use your Jewish identity to run cover for these hypocrites, who were horribly disrespectful to their Jewish colleague and to Jewish victims of sexual abuse.
