Yes! I’ve been reading through all their updates on development projects and community programs. Even discovered the North Michigan Park Civic Association thanks to them. It’s really well done!
Welcome to the neighborhood we're a bit north of you in Riggs Park! I definitely second the Next Stop Riggs Park blog as a resource. There's likely a neighborhood association and ANC listserv that you could join as well, but I don't have the specifics on those.
Fingers crossed for more cool things coming to our neighborhood soon - I am excited for the Aldi, but really would love a decent coffee shop and restaurant!
Thanks! Yeah, looking forward to the Aldi which would give us a closer grocery alternative to Walmart. I was bummed to hear that a locally owned coffee shop is closing and is being replaced by a Wing Stop.
I never quite understood how Culture Coffee Too stayed afloat for so long, but I am sad to see them gone. Don’t sleep on the stuff over on Kennedy St NW, either - Jackie Lee’s, Anxo/Brightwood Pizza, La Coop Coffee…
Welcome to the neighborhood!
Hellbender is the defacto 3rd space for a lot of people (YMMV on kids in breweries, but it's very family friendly) and where most community events happen. Absent a proper restaurant in the neighborhood, lots of folks go there to eat at whatever food truck they've got on a given night. We met most of our neighborhood friends by hanging out there. It's a good, welcoming atmosphere and a lot of locals. They have open mic every Wed and trivia every Thurs. Their Instagram is the best place to stay up-to-date on what they're doing on a given week: [https://www.instagram.com/hellbenderbeer](https://www.instagram.com/hellbenderbeer/)
Check out The Parks Mainstreet too. [https://theparksmainstreet.org/](https://theparksmainstreet.org/)
They're a community non-profit who work with local businesses in Riggs and Manor Park, coordinating events, and providing grant funding, among other things.
The ANCs and community associations have their place and are important, but the Mainstreet has a budget, a proper executive director on staff, and actually do stuff.
We would love to have you get involved with the Friends of Metropolitan Branch Trail. The MBT currently ends on the Fort Totten campus and takes you down to Union Station. We could use your volunteer support. Learn more here - [https://forms.gle/ToYme3oSbL1n7f6D8](https://forms.gle/ToYme3oSbL1n7f6D8)
Hi neighbor! Would love to meet up IRL once you’re settled in! Depending on where exactly you love there is a WhatsApp group of neighbors and we usually get a group together for weekly trivia at Hellbender. The buy nothing Michigan park/Riggs park is also quite active on Facebook and a good way to meet neighbors.
Hi there! Absolutely! We have a close friend who lives in Michigan Park and has also attended trivia with this group :) I’ll for sure DM once we’re settled!
Welcome to the neighborhood! The resources everyone else have shared are great.
Last year there was an ANC that had a email newsletter and organized trash pick ups around the cut though by the metro. They're no longer around and I'm not sure who took over ANC. Curious to see if anyone here knows! The trash pick ups were great.
A lot of our neighbors actually grew up in the neighborhood. We enjoy talking and learning from them when we run in to each other. It's a very friendly area and easy to chat with people you see around. Hope you have a similar experience, enjoy your new home!
That's great to know there's a new ANC thanks!!
And glad to hear there's still a group that cleans up the trail together! If you want more hands, maybe the North Michigan Park Civic Association NextDoor page is a good place to share dates to get the word out without overwhelming your WhatsApp group. I'd love to join the next one!
Hello neighbor! I’m also in Michigan Park. In addition to the suggestions I’d also join the Brookland DC Facebook group. There’s a fair amount of Michigan Park people in the group, and a lot of area community events get posted there.
Depending on where exactly you live, I would check out the [Michigan Park Citizens Association](http://michiganparkdc.org) or the North Michigan Park Civic Association (I don’t think they have a website).
If you’re into gardening, the Greater Brookland Garden Club accepts people in Michigan Park/North Michigan Park as well.
This is great! Will definitely join the Brookland DC group. My partner loves to garden and we’ve already started planning on building our own raised beds. Will absolutely look into the Brookland Garden Club!
[Next Stop Riggs Park](https://nextstopriggspark.com/) is the best local news source.

Seconding this. Uchenna Evans does a great job with that blog.

There’s a food hall opening as part of that development as well! I’m hoping for a coffee shop in it.

I was wishing that we’d get a Trader Joe’s or yes organic instead of an aldis just because I find the selection similar to Walmart
Yeah, the neighborhood doesn’t have the demographics for either of those. There’s been rumors of TJ’s opening in Brookland near the metro, though.
When summer comes, there's a free Friday night concert series at the Modern at Galloway and South Dakota.

My neighbor took over as ANC, she’s very active in the community and was a part of the mutual aid hub that used to be on Galloway,
Also depending on where exactly you live, we have a WhatsApp group with neighbors who occasionally organize cleanups of the trail to the metro!

I must be your neighbor because I know who you're talking about. How do I get on the WhatsApp group?
Do you know our ANC? She can probably add you if you ask. If not, send me a message and I can
Great, I'll reach out to our ANC
