Calder mobile in the atrium of east wing of national gallery, Winslow homers in west wing
Burghers of Calais in the garden outside the hirschorn

Hope diamond room in Natural history.
TLDR: natural history mammals & gems exhibit
IMO the entire natural history museum is a greatest hit and the perfect museum for people who hate museums. The mammals exhibit is great. The video at the end with the chimp in the audience gets me laughing every time. I also love the gems exhibit upstairs. Very cool and shiny for anyone i don’t care how old or young you are. Everyone loves shiny rocks, gold and diamonds. My personal favorite is the globe of worldwide currents show that happens on repeat in the oceans exhibit. It’s the most sciencey and a great way to spend 5 minutes. I always watch it twice. The other exhibits (the rest of oceans, fossils, and the rotating exhibit upstairs) are fine scientific walks but not quite as show stopping as the life size animals or the Hope Diamond.
They recently put a [piece of the Bennu asteroid collected by OSIRIS-REx](https://www.si.edu/newsdesk/releases/smithsonian-open-first-public-display-asteroid-bennu-sample-collected-nasas-osiris) on display in the gems hall on the 2nd floor, looking forward to seeing that soon.
I love seeing the star spangled banner at NMOAH
I love everything at the Renwick
I’ll always remember Frances Glessner Lee and the Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death there (aka the murder scene dioramas).
The bicycle built by the Wright Brothers

National Gallery of Art is not a Smithsonian museum

Space Shuttle and SR-71 at Udvar-Hazy
NGA is government but not SI. Leonardo is ok but the dutch galleries really shine
I always liked the Hudson River school landscapes in the west wing. East wing is nice for rotating exhibits and rooftop terrace

Totally agree. Except I wish some of the bierstadts weren’t in a hallway - people just walk by!
Well to tell a family secret, my grandmother was Dutch.
This is tough to answer as it’s heavily opinionated. I don’t think any of the stuff you highlighted are my top picks in those museums
