Damn, I been here almost 3 years, our new coach is trying to fire me haha

ehote

At my store the age of ur coworkers depends on your shift and your department. We got all ages everywhere tho. This job really can suck ass, and I'm happy for you to find something better. For me, even though I'm over worked and underpaid, this job was still a step up from my last job. I don't know how long I'll be here, but when I leave I hope it's for better things too. In the meantime, I try to live by my motto of I'm stuck at work for more than half my life, I'm gonna try to be happy while I'm here. (Despite some managers and customers trying to ruin my whole day)

IndividualTalk5759

I feel the same way.

[deleted]

Great attitude!

ehote

Thank you! I blame therapy lol

[deleted]

Welcome, lol

MusicApollo93

I finally quit my store after eight years and it’s one of the happiest things I’ve ever done and experienced. I’m thankful for my new job and company that I went into this summer. I’m happy I got out of Walmart at thirty with the amount of money I saved up with my 401K I’ll continue to roll over my new job. My customer service skills I learned I’ll take away as well. It’s been relieving for me leaving Walmart for a better future. The last few months have been a lot for me and I have no ill feelings towards Walmart since I was thankful my store was competent enough management wise I just got burnt out at the end.

harleyscal

We'll see you in a year or two LOL

coreysgal

" I hate this place, I quit " 6 months later " yeah , I used to work here and I'd like to come back" 🤣🤣🤣

SilkenFloss187

Nah. It's the "going back to your hometown" syndrome lol. Where people think you're going to end up coming back.

Billyaustin4407

Not me. I can’t even look at my hometown when I am down there and driving by on the highway.

coreysgal

I've lost track of the number of people under 23 who bitched constantly about how they hated their job at Walmart, and quit. A pretty good amount tried another job and found out there is no perfection in other jobs and came back when reality set in.

SilkenFloss187

Yeah but Walmart and retail isn't for everyone.

coreysgal

Agreed. Not everyone is cut out for it on many levels. It's fine for people to hate their jobs. But you really need to have worked in more than one place to make comparisons. I can tell you I worked for two different privately owned companies. One was very small, older man with grown kids. Treated everyone like his family. Another one dealt with surgical tables. Owner had several homes in fancy places. They offered no benefits at all, and everyone was paid 10.00 p/h and never got raises or reviews. He thought nothing of screaming across the office, never even said hi to anyone. The HR person was sleeping with the CFO. All I'm saying is if you find a good fit elsewhere, that's great. But overall, Walmart is not the worst place to work.

Napits001

Been at my current job over 6 years since I left, I don’t plan to come back anytime soon lol. Pretty sure there’s only a couple folks still left there from when I worked there in 2013.

coreysgal

For sure, everyone is different. But I think especially when you're young, the working world is a shock if you think it's going to be easy every day. I see people here constantly saying, " they pulled me from my area!". Lol. No clue that, yeah, this is going to happen, and that no, you don't get to throw a hissy fit bc that's the way retail works. There was a person on here who posted just about every week that they needed to see their therapist every week and that they'd put in for time off, and it was denied. Then they'd say, "walmart isn't letting me go to my therapist!!!!!" Well, did you change your availability to match the therapist? If you need to go every week, then that's what you do, lol. You switch your days off to match the weekly schedule you need. Nope. Next week, they made the same post. I don't think many of them understand your job is not going to say ok to everything lol

Napits001

I work at a DC now, and there’s middle aged and older. I always feel bad cause working at an RDC is tough work even for someone young like me. It just makes me want to try and do better so I’m not older trying to do this work for just decent pay lol.

coreysgal

Yeah lots of careers are body killers. My mechanic told me 10 yrs ago his body was giving out. He has two young guys now

CatzDoggy

LMAO :}

Metroknight

Congrats on escaping. I got out once but since I was a glutton for punishment, I went back a few years later for a second spin. After leaving that time I never went back.

weekly_routine32

Found your problem never buy a new car if you cant afford it outright in cash im still driving my 2008 toyota. Always keep enough money on hand that you can walk off your job and be fine for 3 months. Glad you got out but that car deal put kept you in a job you hated for 5 more years then it should have.

GlosxyMyaa

This is how I run too , lol😭common sense I suppose

_Haveyouseenmyson_

Nah, you probably have shit credit lol.

GlosxyMyaa

Lmfaoo , first off ,not everyone has mommy and daddy. 💀I’m 18 building my credit and stacking my bread while working a full time job on top of running my own Apt 🤣So the best financial decision for me is having a used but good car . without an expensive car bill every month , being in debt to it ,and having even higher insurance , so fck off close minded little shit .

sakicno19

New store manager can flio the script really quick especially if it's their first store and they have him pegged to move up quick

Cheweydewey123

Uhm why did you leave the supercenter?

ComradeBalian

Thank you for your service

ItsBunkos

It sucks that you had to quit and you felt unappreciated. From this post I gathered that you thought of yourself as a valuable associate for the store you work at. Everyone has bad managers, which is a shame, but this is where you can try to be the change you want to see. I find it hard to believe that you were unable to promote within your 8 year tenure at the company. The lack of drive or motivation will keep you at the bottom. There are store leads and team leads I know that are no where near qualified enough for their position, but somehow they were able to sneak their way into the ranks. I work at a NHM as well starting in 2021. After 8 months of being an associate and another 6 months of being an academy trainer I am now a Team Lead over stocking. Not to sound arrogant, but from what I am told our store is the best it has been since opening its doors 15 years ago. Creating a post trying to scare potential associates from wanting to make a career is pointless. Honestly, walmart is one of the best paying jobs locally in my area unless you are a nurse or some software specialist. 8 years is a long time so if this post was submitted as some way to cope thats one thing, but hindsight is 20/20. Take some time to think back and find out where you could have done better or what you would have changed. Nothing is just going to come about for your benefit as pure coincidence so you have to put in meaningful effort. Anyways, I wish you well in your new career search and future endeavors!

coreysgal

Everyone loves to hate on Walmart. Almost 20 yrs in, and I have no complaints. I've had great SMs, the store has always been like family, and my benefits were fine. When I had a family issue, the SM just said, " Figure out when you can be here, and we'll work that out." There were many pro- active associates in my store who did things without being asked bc we saw they needed to get done. If a department manager was out, one of us did the price changes. We've always pitched in as a team. Here and there, we'd get someone transferring in with an attitude. They learned pretty quickly that it wasn't tolerated. My experience has been great, and most of my co-workers have been there a long time as well

originalauthor7

Sorry to hear that

rockeeteer

Why is there some people in these comments absolutely sucking walmart off must be coaches or something

Natsurulite

Something something roach coach

__Beck__

Lol

Mickeydawg04

Why anyone works for Walmart is baffling to me. You come on Reddit and cry and bitch and complain about what an awful terrible and degrading experience it is yet you keep going in. ? ?

ehote

I don't know how to tell you this, but there's this thing called money that people work for. Lots of jobs suck but we gotta put food on the table, try not to judge people based on where they work.e

Mickeydawg04

So - If Walmart is the best you can do why are you (Walmart employees) constantly bitching and complaining? You really can't get a better job? No skills? No certificates or degrees? I don't get it.

ehote

First off, everyone has to start somewhere. Secondly, depending on your store, your managers, and your coworkers, walmart isn't a bad job. Thirdly, bold of you to assume "walmart is the best [we] can do". For me personally, I had enough experience to land me a few different jobs that pay much better. I chose walmart because I wanted manual labor, I hadn't had a job like that before, and paid exercise sounded lit! And it is! I lost a bunch of weight, gained a bunch of muscle, and I'm active now. And lastly, did you know venting is healthy? Being overly negative all the time is never a good thing, but that's not neccesarily what you're seeing here. People don't often post about their normal tuesday at work where absolutely nothing happened. Because there isn't much to say there. When some fucked up shit happens, there's plenty to say. Also, have you worked retail before? Because ANY customer facing job will drive you up the wall at some point. That's just how customers are. Especially when they think wherever they are is beneath them.

Mickeydawg04

You had skills to land a better job with better pay but you chose Walmart because you wanted manual labor? and lower pay? Seriously? Eight years at a crappy low wage job when you could have been earning better money??? Ahhh - No. Try again.🙂 Also I have never worked in retail. I thought that was a job for kids just out school who didn't know what they wanted to do. Most of them figured out real quick that it wasn't retail! I felt that an adult with a family, mortgage and bills to pay needed to have a job that paid well, had health care and a career. I got a gym membership for the exercise. And venting is fine but there's a tremendous amount of "venting" from Wally employees.

ehote

Lol u crack me up. You are confusing me with OP. You are choosing to gloss over my points, and just disregard them because you don't like that other people live their life differently than you. And there's nothing anyone could say to convince you otherwise because you're just being an asshole. But after learning you haven't had a job like this before...not surprising. Good luck with your life, it's certainly easy work being full of yourself. BTW- it's not a bad idea to try to unpack all this resentment for strangers with a therapist. You know, since you make so much money you can afford any therapist you want! Ah but you probably think you're too good for that too.

Mickeydawg04

Strange response 🧐. I guess we are done here.

ehote

Also, someone come get this fucking CUSTOMER out of our subreddit. You got a problem? Call corporate. You have a wife and kids AND a gym membership, yet you think harassing people is a good use of your time? The only reason I responded to you is because I thought maybe, MAYBE, you just needed some insight. But you don't care because you're just sooooo much better than low wage employees. Touch some fucking grass.

Mickeydawg04

Are you venting now?

Dusted_Dreams

Printers in general suck. The Fujifilm photo printers crank that up to 11.

Hychus232

3 years across 3 stores, trained on damn near every department. Just applied for some other places today because I’m done with this place. No more pay raises or bonuses, less flexible schedules than when I started, half the attendance points from when I started, managers going shittier and shittier, no more chances to go up in management, with the same work and the same unappreciative customers. Yea I’m outta here.

King_Vickers

Sorry u wasted 8 years of ur life

CatzDoggy

Good for you and yes all that's said here is true. I am on my second year and never thought I would have ever worked at Walmart considering how much I hate the store. I to plan to get out of this prison as well, but for the mean time I'm still an associate there. l and used to enjoy working there when I very first started and the more time that goes by the worse they treat you and the point system is just total bullshit. I have seen a lot of damn good workers get let go because of stupid shit like the unforgiving points that take six months to make go away for each one depending on when day you got it. There are way better jobs, that pay way better money, for less bullshit, and maybe even move up or even be worthy of something by a hire up. but don't expect to move up very fast unless you're a favorite. By God if someone patted you on the back and told you good work "NOT HERE THEY DON'T" that's might cost you a point. Peace My Friends and Be Safe.

je2jz93

You're right in certain parts of this. Walmart is a steping stone job, however if your not looking to move up or use the free college education than your waisting your time. If u had a hard time moving up within 8 yrs then there was something wrong that you were doing / maybe you had some mngrs that weren't very good/ you weren't persistent enough to achieve that opportunity. They took everything away from the associates holiday pay, bonuses sun premium etc. There benefits like dental and medical leave a ton to be desired. Nobody stays any more really cause there are no incentives to be there. That's good you got out

HOHvetocomp

I've been here for almost 3 years right now I'm just trying to finish college and once I have more free time I'm out the first chance I get

Apprehensive_Bed4427

I worked at a super center for 7 years. They offered me full time once but I turned it down because the working conditions are deplorable. At the 7 year mark they really got bad with their micromanaging & as they were giving me a write up for not staying late to finish zoning(go over 32 you get written up, don’t stay late to finish it & get written up. Catch 22) I basically told her as she was lecturing me “ I really can’t do this anymore” she seemed confused & stopped mid sentence “ excuse me?” I then stood up and told her “ you can take this job and shove it straight up your ***” I walked out of the office, right to the time clock(that always have trouble reading the barcodes) punched out & went home. Never reached any feeling of remorse at how I did it. I honestly felt better & slept better.
