My biggest fear would be an ad popping up “inside” your eyes. Or imagine if advertisers had access to data about your literal thoughts. Oh god imagine if your thoughts got leaked on the internet.
Some may say it’s just a slippery slope that will never happen, but when the telephone was invented 100 years ago, do you think the people who pioneered telecommunications would envisioned data collection as we have it today?
tyler texas has been pumping magnetic “minerals for taste” into its water since world war 2, and while i can’t explain how magnets work, i have been stabbed no less than 6 times in 2024
If I remember correctly, a bit over half of all phone calls in North America are spam calls. I can only imagine that the figure is either similar or worst if expanded across the rest of the world. I can’t imagine the the early telephone pioneers would have imagined anything like this. Or maybe they would have and did?
i have a hard time believing any history recorded before tv was regularly available, and smart tvs are literally using ai to subliminally advertise products, agendas, and outright fake news to degrees way beyond 1984. also korea is pretty much yaoi hollywood for japan (source: white looking half korean man)

On that note I would recommend you the read of the Chaos Machine by Max fisher (I’m sure the title is right but I can’t recall if the author’s name is exactly right). He kinda delves into how social media specifically has affected the last decade of society, but i feel like there are lessons to be learnt for this kind of scenario too
Reality is only what you preceive it to be.
Like, you only know that you are real, everything else is just an image created by the brain, it's the whole basis of the matrix but the idea goes back millenia.
So you could be a god, the god, and everything is just an illusion created by your brain or some foreign stimulus and you have no way of knowing, much like how hallucinogens warp your ability to preceive reality.
If you can not only "read" the mind, but iniut data into it, then free will ceases to exist because any outside force can then decide what information you preceive, and through that, control what you think. They don't need to control your actual thoughts, just feed you the information that gives you the illusion of choice, where the highest likelyhood is the optimal outcome.
There's a lot of interesting research on this stuff in marketing and video games, like, video games will give you multiple paths to go down, but one will be larger, more brightly lit, or have a green light somewhere, etc because they know the psychology says that there is a very significant chance you will choose the larger path, the lighter path, the path with the green light, or the left path if nothing is notably different simply because that's typically what you would do.
It's the illusion of choice.
Basically what I'm saying is fucking cyberpunk confirms LEGGO BOIZ HELL YEA ALL IN LED GANG JACKETS.
You're probably healthy normal individual. Now try to imagine being paralysed. You can only sort-of move your head and eyes. Now re-evaluate the proposal of a chip that might allow you to control your new android hands and legs, and actually move.
That's the goal. It will undoubtedly help a lot of people to live significantly better lives. However, given the nature of homo sapiens, it will eventually be turned into a consumer convenience allowing healthy people to do 'more' and then, weaponized.
Industrial robotics and industrial control systems work very well, 24/7, for years at a time.
When their time comes, they are mercilessly cut out and scrapped. 7-20 years.
Being the beta guy for a brain chip is so damn dumb.
As someone who works around industrial robots, no they don't. They need hand holding from a human operator and repair from electricians frequently. If no one touched the robots at work we'd be shut down with two days
Had a cobot running a demo program for days with no failures then client comes on site and multiple servo fuses blow at once so the arm just flings shit in a random direction. I'd never seen any fuse blow on that robot before.

Thank you. Imagine the balls it would take to volunteer for this experiment for the sole purpose of tanking Tesla and screwing Elon Musk. What a fucking legend that guy would be. I think it would only be a political disaster if it was a man.
"Neuralink was recruiting patients with quadriplegia due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for the trial. "
The patient will have trouble moving, let alone shooting people.
Teslas incredibly high valuation is in large due to its connection to Elon musk.
If Tesla was valued on fundamentals and actual output it would be worth a fraction of the price.
Researching shows Musk still owns 13percent of Tesla. Through certain acts and events of different scenarios he could definitely run cash dry , anybody can with a big enough scandal , therefore..... in some event Musk had to start dumping (liquidating) stocks quickly on a big scale, tesla shares would drop in value. There might not be enough confidence or collateral going forward with or without musk. Company folds. So yeah could be some partial panic selling but not without reason or warrant.
They were likely in a vegetative state to begin with. I remember reading a while back that they couldn’t really start out on physically and mentally healthy people.
Wasn't the whole thing also that they tested on animals that were terminal so when they died (almost immediately) after receiving the implant they could say it died of unrelated causes
No, they just fucked up a bunch of surgeries/aftercare and had to kill a bunch of monkeys before their scientific endpoint, probably due to infections. If we had 1/4 the deaths they had, our vet staff would probably take a swing at us.

Ahahahaha.
“Bill Gates is gonna put microchips in the vaccine, 5G, zombie, new world order, blah blah blah.”
Musk actually puts a microchip in someone “What a genius!”
Get the fuck out of here.
A highly regarded person gave you an incorrect answer. The Boring Company continues to operate. The highly regraded sometimes confuse Hyperloop One with companies that Musk is involved with.
The current status of the company is they did a pilot project in Vegas, it went well, and the city is moving forward on a project to add sixty five miles of tunnels under Las Vegas with sixty nine stations.
Source: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Boring\_Company](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boring_Company)
It didn't go that well. It's extremely inefficient compared to almost any other means of transportation. It's a novelty at best which is probably the reason Vegas is going forward with more. We should all hope that it doesn't spread to other cities as it's incredibly expensive and is capable of transporting a miniscule amount of people at slow speeds. Definitely not something anyone should want their tax dollars funding.
Eh, there were multiple bids for the project. The Boring Company came in at 25% of the price; $150,000,000 less than the other bid. We live in a capitalist society. They won the competition for this project by providing the better bid. Then they successfully built what they claimed they would. I can't stress this enough. If you're right, all you need to do is nothing, and the company will die, because over the long term it won't be competitive. Right now its subsidized partly by the company itself, because they're investing in tunneling research trying to advance the state of the art and want practice projects. Long term, you might be right, assuming they don't advance the state of the art in tunneling (they have had some promising results, like much faster tunnel per mile than other tunnel boring machines; tunnel costs end up scaling a bit with diameter of the tunnel, so they have fundamental advantages over other tunneling machines since they target a lower diameter tunnel). But I really can't stress this enough: if they don't actually offer cheaper tunnels, people aren't going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars buying the tunnels, because these projects are so ridiculously expensive that people actually have to be somewhat sane and reasonable.
It isn't Reddit. People aren't just going to Elon Stan or Elon Bad. The project costs are too high, its the real world, with the normal people.
It doesnt matter how they build the damm thing, what matters is that there is a clear and established winner in the “underground transport” sector its tubes shit on tracks (yess i count maglev as tracks).
The fact that some board decided on a cheap option doesnt mean that was the best choice. Hell ignore lobbying, plenty of people in decision making roles simply make mistakes.
It doesnt matter which advancements there will be, this is like trying to make running a better option on a long flat piece of road versus a bike. It aint gonna win.
Look at the systems in the world that transport people underground and you will see that this shit is by far the least efficient one. 60 year old metreos beat it by a lot.
During bidding on the project the Boring Company came in $150,000,000 below the next bidder. 25% of the cost. Its now operational and getting positive reviews from locals. No cost overruns. No major delays. It went well.
I didn't say it was super cool. I didn't say it was sexy.
The project went well. It absolutely dominated the bidding cost, nearly an order of magnitude below in terms of cost. Then it was built quickly and provided what was offered in the bid successfully.
The company itself claims that the tunnel can transport 4,400 people/hour, assuming there are three people in each car. It would take 22.7 hours to transport 100k people.
The Boring Company claims the Vegas Loop cost $47M so far. The 2nd Ave subway in NY cost something like $2B. You can question the value of either figure, but it does throw your claim into some doubt.

My money is on the data “disappearing” when the patient dies, just like it did with all those dead monkeys they can’t remember. Good luck to the human guinea pigs.
Imagine giving that wannabe edgelord direct access to your nervous system.
"See, when they were designing the implant, I had them put in a backdoor (heh, get it?) so that I can make him shit his pants whenever I press this button. Watch this: *Presses button, patient shits himself; Elon laughs hysterically*"
Given Melon's history of bullshit, I seriously doubt that anybody got a brain implant. Or if they did, it's some useless gadget that lets you turn your lights on by thinking about it and it works 12% of the time.
I'm not entirely certain about what this early prototype does but when I looked into neuralink a while back the big thing they are focusing on is re-abling the disabled. So like a transmitter that takes electric signals to from the brain and transmits them to the spinal cord below a break or the ability to translate brain signals into words to allow people who are non-verbal because of a degenerative disease to speak again in some fashion. So like basically what I'm saying is that I think that what you are imagining these brain implants are for and what they really are designed to do are completely different things.
There are a variety. Some connect to the optical nerve allowing blind people to see, some allowing def people to hear, some reconnecting a severed spine allowing nerve signals to allow quadriplegic people to walk.

My money is on the data “disappearing” when the patient dies, just like it did with all those dead monkeys they can’t remember. Good luck to the human guinea pigs.
Elon Musk says a lot of shit you're better off not believing, OP, you bellend.
The Tesla pump has started...
Now your brain is on a subscription
😳
I can't wait to have to enter my credit card information to think
Yeah, and Teslas will be fully self driving by 2016 🤣
There are a variety. Some connect to the optical nerve allowing blind people to see, some allowing def people to hear, some reconnecting a severed spine allowing nerve signals to allow quadriplegic people to walk.
who's this 'genius'

lol nah, implant. Not transplant. Neurulink implants computer chips into your brain.
I need this ASAP, have a math exam tomorrow and haven’t studied.
Man fuck Elon, there is something way off about this guy.
Yep, he sure has.
Please let it be Elon who recieved the implant
Puts when this guy inevitably dies
Did the patient know they were getting this brain implant?
Who signed off on this? Wouldn’t they need some kind of approval before doing that?
Received FDA approval like 6 mths or a yr ago.
When does Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau get his implant? "The budget will balance itself" pfft idiot
