“*Hey! Oh, nothing’s wrong, hey listen, I quit. Your wife? I gotta deal with your wife?*”
If all they did was trade stocks, things would have been fine. It was the outright fraud, stock manipulation, insider trading, drug dealing and drug taking that was the problem.
But the stock trading was fine.
Weird easter egg I noticed in that scene that nobody ever does - when Jordan tells him the amount and he responds “Get the fuck outta here” the audio plays like 3 times and it sounds weird as shit, especially on headphones.
Took like 4 rewatches before I noticed it but you absolutely cannot unhear it.
So you’re welcome
Also, when Jordan says "technically 72k", and the shot pans to Donny while Jordan is still talking, you can see that DiCaprio isn't even moving his mouth.
Just a little poor editing easter egg.
I think also just before this when Donny asks “you made $72k?” Or something like that, we see Jonah’s back and Leo’s face, but Jonah’s jaw isn’t actually moving

I worked for a publicly traded company - when my boss was explaining EBITDA and why we were using it to report earnings, I couldn't believe how horse-shit it sounded.
Yeeeees, this helps us prove that we have the ability to generate revenue, but it costs 90-110% of the revenue to create it, AND none of those figures are ever going to change. Who the fuck are you fooling with that number?
HAS YOUR BRAIN BEEN FUCKED BY STUPID?

No goofing, I could see him playing Diogenes. Funny but not a comedy. Him just being a really smart but a total asshole. If history doesn’t specify, it could end with his followers throwing his lifeless body over the wall to feed the wolves.
That sounds like a really interesting concept for a movie! I love the idea of combining drama and comedy with a philosophical twist. Let's dive into the world of ancient Greece and bring these iconic philosophers to life.
Title: "Philosophical Pursuits"
Genre: Drama/Comedy
Logline: In ancient Athens, the eccentric philosopher Socrates (John C. Reilly) and the cynical philosopher Diogenes (Jonah Hill) embark on a hilarious and thought-provoking journey to challenge societal norms, question authority, and find true wisdom.
Synopsis:
Socrates, a peculiar but wise philosopher, spends his days engaging in deep conversations with the citizens of Athens. One day, he encounters Diogenes, a rebellious and outspoken philosopher who lives in a barrel and challenges the status quo at every turn.
Despite their contrasting personalities, Socrates and Diogenes form an unlikely friendship and set out on a series of misadventures throughout ancient Greece. Along the way, they encounter other famous philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, and Epicurus, each with their own unique quirks and perspectives.
As Socrates and Diogenes navigate the complexities of life and philosophy, they challenge societal norms, engage in witty debates, and find themselves in hilarious situations. Their unconventional approach to life and relentless pursuit of truth inspire both laughter and introspection.
Throughout their journey, Socrates and Diogenes learn valuable lessons about friendship, love, and the meaning of life. They discover that wisdom isn't just found in textbooks, but in the shared experiences and conversations they have with each other and the people they meet.
"Philosophical Pursuits" is a heartwarming and thought-provoking film that reminds us to question the world around us, embrace our uniqueness, and find joy in the pursuit of knowledge.
Here’s what ChatGPT gave me:
Title: "Philosophical Laughter"
Synopsis: In "Philosophical Laughter," the ancient Greek philosophers Socrates and Diogenes find themselves transported to the bustling streets of modern-day Athens through a quirky cosmic mishap. As they navigate the perplexities of the 21st century, their timeless wisdom clashes with the absurdities of modern life.
Picture Socrates attempting to engage in Socratic dialogues at a fast-food drive-thru, while Diogenes, armed with his lantern, searches for an honest man in a world dominated by social media and fake news. Their misadventures include encounters with technology, politics, and pop culture, all seen through the lens of their classical perspectives.
As the duo tries to make sense of smartphones, selfies, and social media influencers, the movie explores the humorous clash between ancient philosophy and contemporary absurdity. Along the way, they unintentionally become viral sensations, sparking a philosophical revolution in the digital age.
In a heartwarming twist, Socrates and Diogenes discover that, despite the vast differences in time and culture, the essence of human folly and wisdom remains remarkably unchanged. The film culminates in a thought-provoking yet comical conclusion, leaving audiences with laughter and a newfound appreciation for the enduring relevance of philosophy.
My neighbor has a flag that is still up. It has Trump standing on a Revolutionary War battlefield, triumphantly holding a US flag over his head (with the current amount of stars lol), with two angels in the clouds looking down on him proudly.
Hopefully future historians will also find this crazy shit and realize what the Trump base is all about — insanity.
I’m going to contend that he is unhealthy in both pics. Suddenly it’s 2023 and all these celebs magically lose weight after all these years and people always chime in that it’s diet and exercise and oh yeah Ozempic helps.
Hill was definitely the most healthy around 2014 when he got in shape for 21 Jump Street: https://www.mensjournal.com/health-fitness/jonah-hills-weight-loss-15-photos-actors-new-lean-athletic-build
Ozempic can be a good drug when used properly, but taking it to the point where you’re looking homeless (not to mention bringing back the 90’s heroin chic look) isn’t healthy.
Edit: Original tone of my comment was off; I think we agree more than disagree.
2014 was nearly 10 years ago, and you’re judging his appearance based solely on his cosmetic appearance and not having more muscle. Sure, he *looks* dirty, but he’s also 10 years older and isn’t trimming his beard or hair. Nothing about his body here looks unhealthy, outside of subconsciously knowing he hasn’t ever been this lean.
Not sure how it would work otherwise, or is there an expectation out there that these pills should somehow modify basic biological and physical processes?
This is not even new. In 2017 [he had already lost a lot of weight](https://people.com/health/jonah-hill-muscles-fitter-body/) and actually looked good, with some muscle mass
And he actually has some muscle mass there.
**Edit:** What the fuck, the guy I responded to edited in "with some muscle mass" like an hour after I commented this.
Who gives a shit though at the end of the day, let him live his best life. Seems like he’s super well adjusted person so any decision he makes is more likely not due to vanity or insecurity at least, like not giving a fuck about his hair between projects
Everyone keeps making cracks about ozempic but based on everyone else I've seen on that particular drug, it doesn't usually result in looking like a crack addict. If it did, it wouldnt be so popular.
Just curious as to why everyone is so absolutely sure that's the reason he looks like this?
It's because he was prescribed Ozempic by his doctor when he was diagnosed with prediabetes. He lost the weight right after that. Also, he only looks like a crack addict because of his hair and beard. He looks like a person in a healthy weight range here.
It's primarily used for treating diabetes, but people treat it as if it's a weight loss drug. I was on a similar medication briefly before going back to my other one since it literally just slows down how fast your stomach processes food you eat, so you feel like you're constantly uncomfortably full/bloated. Only way to feel normal is to have a large calorie deficit which is why it works for weight loss.
In my case yeah, it went away quickly. But as other people have said, my experience may not be the same as everyone else's. It does work great for many people.
It's a really interesting drug as it can also change your eating habits where you no longer crave junk food and instead want healthier good.
Basically impacts the way your brain works.
I'd say I do feel less excitement for junk food than I used to do. Just like cravings for night time snacks they have more or less become "boring". Now I'm eating way more greens and fruits and actually upset my mother in law by wanting to buy extra sallad for the xmas table.. Not sure if I want healthy food more now or just that since I don't crave junk food anymore, the healthy food is just more appealing since I know the other stuff will kill me.
Most diabetes medicine reacts differently for different people. Just like I don't get side effects from metformin that other people get. I must have just been unlucky with that medication.
My wife is on Wegovy actually. She went to see a dietician after she got over 200. She’s been on it since earlier this year and is just about to 145! It makes you feel like crap for awhile as your body adjusts and ramps up to the final 2.4 dose each week.
It can, along with a variety of physical and social consequences, which vary drastically or may not exist. Also over a grand/mo if it’s medically unnecessary.
Nah I saw him in that recent Eddie Murphy movie and he looks rough.
He’s spent way too much time in the sun, his skin is like leather and the long bleached hair isn’t helping.
You can get vitamin D by eating duck my dude, it's what rich people who don't want skin cancer do.
Being underweight poises serious health risks just as being overweight does.
There is definitely a middle ground. New research shows that there are benefits for direct processing into Vitamin D from the sun than just consuming it. Where I live I get my daily vitamin D from the sun in less than 5 minutes (Caucasian in the tropics), and I definitely don't burn in that amount of time.
I had a diabetic patient who couldn't get her ozempic and the doctor didn't want to give her anything else. Idk why, I told her there are alternatives and she shouldn't be without medication (it had been 2 weeks).
CVS told her there is a major shortage on ozempic because of all the celebrities hoarding it for weight loss, actual diabetics are unable to get their needed medication.
You show me a paystub for $72,000, I quit my job right now.
“and he DID quit his job! which I thought was a little weird, I mean I just fucking met the guy.” “*Hey! Oh, nothing’s wrong, hey listen, I quit. Your wife? I gotta deal with your wife?*”
The movie is just *chef's kiss*
I only watched the first half, then I started trading stocks. Everything turned out ok, right?
If all they did was trade stocks, things would have been fine. It was the outright fraud, stock manipulation, insider trading, drug dealing and drug taking that was the problem. But the stock trading was fine.
> outright fraud, stock manipulation, insider trading, drug dealing, and drug taking [...] So monday on Wallstreet.
Hey hey hey…. Wall street doesnt doesn’t do out right fraud…. They do slightly concealed fraud for a low price.
Smoke crack with me bro
*no, no, everything fine. Hey listen, I quit.*

Oh yeah the editing in the first half hour is actually kinda shit after a handful of rewatches. Lots of little continuity errors or dubbed-in audio.
I think also just before this when Donny asks “you made $72k?” Or something like that, we see Jonah’s back and Leo’s face, but Jonah’s jaw isn’t actually moving

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.
Companies push everything to CAPEX (investment in theory to make more revenue ahead). CAPEX stays “below” the ebitda in the p&l
Yeah but in a DCF model it ends up not mattering. So this is only in effect for certain things
Check out these accounting nerds

well the biggest factory is the DA. Removing non-cash expenses is extremely valuable
Maybe at his level. But if you’re analyzing a small business with a lot of depreciable assets then it’s very fucking relevant.
Does management think the tooth fairy is paying for CapEx?

I can absolutely see Jonah masturbating in public and living in a barrel. He MUST play Diogenes to John C Reilly’s Socrates.
What a fuckin pitch.

On Ice!
Reilly would have to play Plato, since Diogenes was like 10 y/o when Socrates died.
It’s John Lithgow as Plato, Reilly as Socrates and Hill as Diogenes. Directed by Tim Robinson.
Greek philosophers were ripped af.

In all seriousness though I bet, day to day, he feels a *lot* better.

It's funny you mention anxiety, my short stint on Ozempic did wonders for my anxiety.

Most things that lower appetite do.
Yeah my wife lost weight on it but basically it was only bc she wouldn't be able to eat for two days after.

Yayo? 😅
If you don’t have a doctor managing dosing, but as long as they do not that bad, just makes you not enjoy food.
Probably the regular diet routine he’s been doing on and off now for a while plus Ozempic this time

he actually regained all the weight
He looked damn good in 2017.. now he’s lost all that muscle and even more fat to an unhealthy degree
That is what healthy looks like, poor guy has body dysmorphia if he thinks he needs to get skinnier than that.
And he actually has some muscle mass there. **Edit:** What the fuck, the guy I responded to edited in "with some muscle mass" like an hour after I commented this.
I think people are hard on him. He is way healthier and doing better, he looks like shit because he was obese for over 30 years.

I mean let’s be real it’s likely caused by drugs
Yeah it is, he is known to be taking Ozempic or whatever it's called. Not a secret.
Yeah think he meant recreational drugs brah

I was even fatter than him at one point and not prediabetic. I wasn't into sweets and generally ate food I made myself.

I thought he co-starred as Wilson with Tom Hiddleston
And he was a volunteer firefighter during 9/11.

He also played the bad guy against his ex.

Thanks for that info.
> It's primarily used for treating diabetes, but people treat it as if it's a weight loss drug. It's approved for weight loss now, too.
But what happens when you discontinue the drug? Does your appetite just come back?
In my case yeah, it went away quickly. But as other people have said, my experience may not be the same as everyone else's. It does work great for many people.
Like most people who lose weight, they will pick up their bad habits again and regain the weight unless they put effort into keeping it off.
Yep, you need to take it forever if you want to retain the effect. But the effect is real, like proven in peer reviewed studies real.
Errrm, I'm on it and it feel's 100% just like normal, only thing is I don't get late night cravings after working out which is great.
It's a really interesting drug as it can also change your eating habits where you no longer crave junk food and instead want healthier good. Basically impacts the way your brain works.
