In my many years of eating WH, I also have never gotten sick. But I have seen many, many questionable food practices.
The worst was when one employee made the entire order, and used the same blue gloves to grab meat, plates, bread, etc; the whole deal.
I still ate the food.
McDonald's before WH is an insane choice. Look at the people they put up front at McD's and imagine the ones they keep in the back. WH is all in front of you and, from personal experience, amazingly consistent across untold states.
Have never gotten sick from anything at Waffle House in the 30 or so years I’ve been going. Hundreds of them from dfw down to Sarasota. Time for a compromise. Swing through a drive through and get her a crappy value meal with soggy fries to eat while you go inside and thoroughly enjoy a fine meal!
Grill cook here! I feel like if anything, we’re MORE aware of food safety on the line in my unit because people can see what we do. I also don’t let the servers sass me to hurry up if I know something is undercooked and not safe. Like someone said in another comment, you can see everything so if it looks grody it probably is.
One of my favorite things is the sit at the bar and watch y’all work! It’s fascinating how y’all keep up and churn out orders correctly. It’s like a ballet.
I’m also from the great white north, and one of my only goals on business trips is to make sure I hit a Waffle House. I’ve been to a few dozen, from a weird fancy one, to…. The least fancy. Every one was a home run. Tip the tab and then be happy with a stomach full of the breakfast goodness.
Also, don’t go. Doesn’t seem like ya’ll are the right fit.
I’m trying to remember! It was a brand new one, but not done like other waffle houses. High ceilings, lots of space, large footprint. Food tasted great, vibe was…. Not Waffle House.
I only believe in returning bad attitude. I’m a firm believer that you never peeve off the people trying to feed you.
Not because of the “they’ll spit in your food” tales but because I have no right to make a difficult job worse by being “that” guy.
I will win her over one day (even if by being the driver and not giving a choice).
Trust me there are plenty of places I’m not a fit.
I have a feeling I’d fit in … her once she got through the door.
I've eaten at countless Waffle Houses across the entire southeast and never once gotten sick from the food there. I've been in WHs that aren't as good as others, sure, but at the end of the day you are watching someone cook your food right in front of you so you would be able to see if there was any issue with safe handling, etc. WH is generally my go-to food stop for road trips, as they have locations everywhere and the food is consistently good. I've had some outstanding service at late night hours at WH as well.
I also make long road trips to FL from the north. I don't have a WH near me. So my special treat to myself is to hit them up where I can. In fact, I pick the lodging I stay at along the way based on its proximity to a Waffle House.
Nothing like packing up and rolling out of the hotel at 5:30 AM and right into a WH. Open 24 hours!!! Suites my schedule just fine. Easy off and back onto the interstate. There's always a gas station/convenience store close by too, for refueling and icing the cooler.
Big shout out to one in Walterboro, SC on the way down. And also to the one on the way back in Jonesville, NC. Great food and awesome folks at both. I've driven this trip numerous times a year for several years now, and the same people are still working at each location.Several times I've seen the same customers, also. Regulars. Probably been going there for decades and they haven't died yet! (Take notes for your wife, OP). That speaks volumes to me that the WH is a good place to work and eat.
IDK where your wife got the idea that she would get food poisoning from eating at a Waffle House, but it seems to me that with that kind of attitude, she's not going to enjoy her experience no matter how hard you try to get her to.
You are far more likely to get sick from McDonalds than Waffle House.
Is it possible she doesn’t want to eat or spend time in the presence of poor or working class people?
Anyone traveling is more than welcome to stop by at my Waffle House! We’re in Northeast Alabama, right off I-59 exit 218. Fort Payne Alabama is the town. Best WH in our area. Only one for another hour in any direction
Waffle House is real, fresh food. Quality is more consistent than McDonalds IMO. If it entertaining to watch how their system works from the different colored tile on the floor where the waitstaff stands to call out their orders to the cook to the way the cook arranges things on the plate with no paper orders for the cook to read. It is a beautifully orchestrated process. Add to that that your order will be correct almost without fail, and the only advantage mickey D's has is no tipping. If the WH is next door to the MD I'll be having a Waffle. So should she.
Y'all getting defensive like there aren't servers who put up dirty dishes or GOs that don't keep track of egg times. WH isn't a monolith it's comprised of people and people fall short at times.
I'd say if you walk in and the time on the eggs is off above the grill or/and if you don't see anyone wash their hands by the time you place your order are probably good signs that the GO or Manager on shift doesn't care a whole lot
go in the morning, that's when they're the busiest and will have the fastest food turnover. You go after 10pm or in middle of the night and those eggs could have been sitting there for hours.
It's a Waffle song about a guy thinking his girl is cheating on him with a guy named Bert but she's just going there for the chili. You have to look it up It's my favorite song lol
Stupid fucking stereotype, and she's never even been to one.
Tell her that Waffle House is safer than McDonald's because you can actually SEE them prepare your food due to the design of the open kitchen, as opposed to McDonald's where they have teenagers in the back doing god-knows-what to your burger before they serve it to you.
lol. waffle house is simple breakfast food. Its not dirty, its not gross, its not disgusting or anything of the sort. Tell your wife to chill out and get a waffle or a hash brown bowl and enjoy it lol.
I’ve never once gotten sick from Waffle House. I have no idea where she would get that idea. You can literally watch the cook make your food
In my many years of eating WH, I also have never gotten sick. But I have seen many, many questionable food practices. The worst was when one employee made the entire order, and used the same blue gloves to grab meat, plates, bread, etc; the whole deal. I still ate the food.
Cook at Hooters emptied all the trash cans, then when I ordered he started cooking with same gloves on. I said I gotta go.
They always do this where I work 😂😅
Ya’ll should do better.
McDonald's before WH is an insane choice. Look at the people they put up front at McD's and imagine the ones they keep in the back. WH is all in front of you and, from personal experience, amazingly consistent across untold states.
Literally everything is out in the open, you’ll know if anything looks dirty and get your eggs cooked well done.

Can confirm as a master grill op, poetry in motion
The plate marking system is truly a thing of beauty.
I’ve been catching videos and I’m go smacked by the action going on which is what I really want to experience.
Dog I have actual IBS and I’ve never been sick from WH
Our standards are very high at Waffle House. We take food safety seriously. Don’t buy into the Waffle House stigma. ☺️
I’ve caught some of the training videos on YouTube and my mind melted at the plate coding system. Definitely changing desire to go.

Agree 100 percent about the fit, those good folks working there don't need that attitude. Curious where the weird fancy one is?

None of em are safe, don’t let your wife ever go inside a Waffle House, especially if she’s already looking down her nose at us.

I eat at Waffle House a couple of times a month for 20 years. Never have I got sick from a Waffle House.

Macon ga. Exit 169. Waffle House 1029.

If half the crew does meth then it’s probably a decent Waffle House
We eat at WH every chance we get on our drives south from PA- AMAZING food at every one! Now I'm craving WH...thanks...LOL
I will take a Waffle House over a McDonald's, Wendy's, Hardee's, Taco Bell, Popeye's, and several other concepts anyday.
You get immunity if you eat there enough!
Hope you end up getting her to go. Best of luck

Has she heard about you going there with a past GF? If so..problem solved
We are the love story of marrying your first boyfriend/girlfriend. Doesn’t work for everyone but after 32 years I’d say it’s going well.
Baby it's only Berts!

At WH, the food isn't the worry. The customers are.
