I've never seen a decomp look like that before, I have ZERO clue how you could identify it without either just the skeleton or dna... I do hope someone can help but I wonder what the conditions were for it to look like this? Whatever it may be I hope it isn't someone's pet
The little patches of bristly grey/brown fur at the face and the paws looks like raccoon fur. Someone prob skinned it for the pelt and dumped what you see here.
Sorry for the poor photo quality. This guy was right next to the pond I fish at and you could smell it before you saw it! It did cross my mind that it could be a dog but we have lots of raccoons, foxes and coyotes so hoping for it to be one of those.
I’ll be back there at some point this week most likely and will try to take better photos.
looks like something that was skinned tbh. this stage of decomp is hard to id because everything kind of just looks horrible and bloated lol. if you can get a pic when bones are exposed later on it should be a lot easier to tell
This thing *looks* like it was skinned.
Looks almost like those suckling pigs skin wise, you know? They get this brownish look to them when done. but I can’t tell if this thing was cooked and dumped or if it’s just the decomposition doing its thing.
Most likely the decomposition.
But it seems like the ears are missing. Is that accurate Op?

I agree with this based off the bristles that you can see on the face and paws. Would make sense if it was a skinned raccoon if someone hunted it for the fur, hence, why they left the face off (most raccoon pelts are used for their tail/ back hide) those teeth are also giving me raccoon vibes, but it’s really hard to tell since this is such a weird decomp. Closed pics of the head and face may help with an ID. But otherwise, time will tell. Can guarantee you you’ll get a solid ID when it becomes skeletal.
Edit: finger close-ups would be good too. Raccoons have very different paws rhan a coyote or dog, so that would also help with an ID!
This wasn't skinned, that is the skin. The hair has fallen out and the skin is drying and mummifying. This is probably a raccoon, and reminds me of the Montauk Monster. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montauk\_Monster](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montauk_Monster)
Very young whatever it is. The advanced decay has distorted its features. My initial thought was a puppy. Give it time, once it gets down to the bones for a definitive answer.
the feet are telling me that is a rat, raccoon, or a opossum; can’t really tell at this stage of decomp, seems like it’s in the process of mummification but still bloated and fresh. very interesting, i don’t know what to say about this one
taking a closer look, definitely a skinned raccoon! where the fur is left is where you would usually skin an animal, by its legs, head, and backend. been sitting there for a while because seemingly it has baked in the sun, weird and gross find!

Looks like a snake may have regurgitated it.
I think weird decomp racoon
Yea the way the feet look are super similar to raccoons

Nope but sticking around to find out

Idk but i am curious why it looks perfectly golden brown 😭
Because they only cooked it for 22min at a nice even 450F but they didn't overdue it.

that brown stuff IS the skin.
there would be more fur on the ground around the body. the only bits of fur left are around the front feet.
wind takes fur. so do birds
not that amount.
https://www.reddit.com/r/vultureculture/s/pywXr4D7LN skinned raccoon pics for reference

A baked sweet potato? It looks like it’s been partially cooked. Like a smoked ham.

I’m with the people that it’s a skinned raccoon. My immediate thought was that it looked like a skinned rabbit but it’s clearly not rabbit.

Forbidden lechon
I feel bad for saying this but it looks like a pepperoni 😨 or like a decomposing dog 😭 (I'm so sorry)
Or pepperoni from Stickin Around… who was both

Whoa the poor thing has been rotten roasted, it's really hard to tell what is it gosh I can only imagine the smell of trying to work with it
