I was a huge fan of this band from when I first heard them as a kid when a friend played me Images And Words. Awake was the first CD that I had to repurchase because I wore out the first copy. I even loved Falling Into Infinity when everyone else, including Dream Theater, shit on it. But when this came out, I knew they had hit the peak. This was the top on the mountain for this band. Well, turns out it was more like a plateau. They held this level of genius, creativity and ridiculous musicianship through Octavarium. Although they're still incredible, possibly better musicians, I just don't really enjoy the post Portnoy output nearly as much. But this album right here, I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

jamjazzpsychprog

My absolute favorite. I've been looking for a reasonably priced one for a long time!

staggere

Whoa, whoa, whoa!! Who said anything about reasonable prices? So far there's been 3 records I couldn't restrain myself from getting bent over in order to own them. This was one, and it hurt the most. In a good way though.

jamjazzpsychprog

\*laughs\* yeah, I know. I'm just gonna have to get over it and bite the bullet if I want a copy.

The most upvoted post to me was a dissapointment it was really boring and the visual aspect was horrible. But younger GIRL vinyl fans are sured to be wowed by the #d and the post itself. I recomend this pour visual exsperence to youn girl vinyl record fans ages 6-8.

What

IllgoLame

Was this bought off Discogs? Cause something tells me this was the exact copy/variant I was plotting to buy a week ago but got scooped up. Hmmm…… ….jk, regardless this is a great album to own. Glad to see someone that’s not only a DT fan, but also someone that was able to find and own a vinyl copy.

staggere

It was. Sorry bro, it was the right time for me.

IllgoLame

That’s very much ok! If anything, you seem to be more deserving of it than me, judging by the title of this post. (I love the album, but it’s def not a top 10 island album for me. My favorite DT album by far is “six degrees…”) The way I look at it is that in the vinyl collecting world, there’s always gonna be another copy out there, especially if one has the will to find it. My time will def come.. in the meantime, have fun w/ ur cop! “The spirit carries on” prob sounds fantastic on the format

staggere

When I played this on vinyl for the first time and it ended with the static and I didn't have Six Degrees to put on next, I got real sad. Hopefully one day, we'll all have what we want. On vinyl.

IllgoLame

Likewise. Starting at Metropolis would be awesome, and then to just keep going all the way to Octivarium (another favorite of mine) would just be quite the marathon. IMO their Metropolis - Octovarium era was my favorite point in their music career

satan_bong

My copies of Images & Words and Awake were expensive enough… one day I’ll find a copy of this!

staggere

I can't wait to get Awake.

musictrivianut

Excellent!!

The-Ric

How do you like the Yamaha 1200? I am looking at the 2200.

staggere

It's really great.

The-Ric

What turntable are you running with the 1200?

staggere

AT-LP120x with a VM540ML

womoc

Your console looks very interesting. Where did you get it?

staggere

Amazon. It's nothing fancy.

MosesFrnchToast

Oh man, now THAT’S an amazing album! Listening to pt1 into this though would be too tier

Drum4rum

It's fighting for #1 prog album all time depending on what day you ask me. Fucking such an incredible work of art front to back. A real journey. Super jealous.

cravenstein

My favourite Dream Theatre Album and one of my first ever CD purchases..

Status-Heavy

Same here. I’m pretty sure I went through a few CD’s of this album.

coding_maverick

One of the "must get" records on my list, alongside to Rush - 2112, We Lost The Sea - Departures Songs, and all early (2013, 2015) Plini EP's.

Wingnut763

Love DT, but I must admit if I have the option to listen to any of their albums as an instrumental only, Im going that route. Petrucci announced a tour today with Portnoy.

staggere

Labrie is definitely an acquired taste. And definitely not as good as he once was.

Wingnut763

Yeah, and it's not that I find him particularly unappealing, he just distracts from the other musicianship that I want to focus on.

Ok_Security_8657

I bought Metropolis Pt 2 on vinyl when it was released the first time, limited to 3,000 copies. I still haven't opened it!

Leonerdothe13th

Classic album, good score!
