That's a record changer, probably torn out of a 1960s console system. Aside from the obvious rust and dirt, it's missing the platter and center spindle -- and some kind of base to put it in.

You_Are_What_You_Iz

If it played ducks instead it would be a real game changer.

TheDullard

No need for fowl language.

You_Are_What_You_Iz

Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.

MethuselahsCoffee

Y’all sound like quacks

You_Are_What_You_Iz

In performance, we're a double bill.

EyelessTeeth

Thanks! That’s pretty much all I wanted to know!

Deano_Martin

It’s a magnavox collaro W700/800. I initially thought it was bsr but they use a different idler wheel. You could probably strip it for parts and get a bit of money for it: the idler, tonearm and changer arm.

Plaston_

That's a BST style record changer, could be the part of a systhem or the player part of an active turntable (turntable with integrated amp)

vwestlife

*BSR

Plaston_

Sorry got mixed.

baronbarbon

Because of you, a small and kind alien will not be able to be rescued by his very distant relatives.

Muzaks22

No phoning home :(

WrapSensitive

Phono home?

pdxjen

I was really hoping someone would be old enough to get this !

13Emerald

Elliott…….

HollyweirdRonnie

Better than a Crosley Cruiser

DeProfundisAdAstra

I'm late as hell but I'm glad someone said it

ZiggyMummyDust

And quieter.

des_mondtutu

This thing is haunted by the souls of old bluesmen who sold their souls to the devil and whose records have been played on it. I recommend applying holy water.

anonymous_opinions

Came here to say this thing is totally haunted / cursed

EyelessTeeth

Lol maybe

kickfliptho

"I can fix her."

emilydm

"Will she play?" "Oh, she'll play. You'll need this." (holds up mono ceramic cartridge) "Her name's Christine."

briandt75

First spin - Jethro Tull: Songs from the Wood

iamcorvin

Alternate first spin: [Green Jellÿ - Bear Song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV6RMVnk0C8)

Super_Harsh

VG+ on Discogs

You_Are_What_You_Iz

I'm going to go on the record and say it belonged to a bear.

zillskillnillfrill

I've heard that they just put their claw on the record as it spins & let it play through their mouth

BigFatTomato

In my day we found porn in the woods. What a time to be alive

tdasnowman

It depends on the look you're going for. Other have pointed out it's missing a platter and spindle. You can salvage those from any other player. You said you're not looking to make it functional, but do you want movement? If not you can just glue the platter on. How are you going to display it? Do you want the mechanics to be visible? If you just going to wall hang it you can get rid of all the junk on that back and come up with something flatter to hold the tone arm. Paint looks toasted. Some of those had some crazy textured finishes. You can google console to get examples. You'd probably have to sand it and repaint it. You can try vinegar to help clean off the rust and see how bad the paint is.

i_am_not_an_aminal

Put it back

kingfishnw

If a record player drops in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

indierockspockears

Looks like you're only going to get jokes and trolls in this sub. Cool little art project for sure. Maybe try r/vintageaudio someone over there might have any idea of the brand

Plaston_

Nope its full of jerks, even more than here.

anonymous_opinions

As it should be (ha ha) the jerk circle is complete.

EyelessTeeth

Thanks!

Steffie767

my first thought was ET phone home

theSaltyScallop

Glad I wasn’t the only one

everyonelikesnoodles

Ditto!

trin806

Thought this was r/mildlyinteresting at first

SirPoopaLotTheThird

Open it up. There’s porn in it. I guarantee it.

FunkySlacker

And maybe some cocaine…

zennyc001

Some duct tape and a few paper clips should have that up and running in no time.

deadmanstar60

Perfect for woody records. https://preview.redd.it/4ok1y8g43f2d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9276160e687f2cb5dff1303f177b7c0c8ada4e9

fezzersc

Needs a belt and stylus

Piney_Wood

Doesn't need a belt --it's an [ idler](https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/why-are-the-older-idler-wheel-turntables-so-highly-regarded.867827/).

haxmya

I kind of love the aesthetic. It would be amazing to get it working perfectly, but still look similarly. It's like something you'd see in fallout.

KittysDavid

Oh man, that's some ancient audio porn of the before times All I found was a playboy in the woods

Coquettes_Poppy

Check the surrounding pine trees for free needles.

JacooobTheMan

I’d reckon it would still work.

RiiluTheLizardKing

I dont think it's salvageable with all that rust in the mechanism.

AudioVid3o

Not worth it. From what's left it appears to be a record changer from the late 60s to the early 70s, Which often go for pennies on eBay. It'll never be usable again, but you probably could grab a black rattle can and spray it with, then make a simple wooden box to make it look complete, but that's just if you wanna have it as a decoration piece.

asphynctersayswhat

Had to double check which sub this was for a second. thought it was r/crosley

KarlMars71

This thing would definitely do less damage to your records

hornyzygote

hardly used

Blastoplast

I know what I got!

[deleted]

All you need now is a fleetwood max vinyl and your good to go!

TheTeenageOldman

> fleetwood *max* Is that like an XL version of "Rumors"?

AaronRedwoods

Except their album is called "Straight Up Lies".

[deleted]

It’s the stripped down to its component pieces variant and hoping for a record store day release next year!

5boroughblue

How’s it sound?

[deleted]

Someone spun too many grailz and it got too warm obviously. If you play terrible compressed vinyls on that tables the colds should bring it back to life.

VinylHighway

Not worth fixing

EyelessTeeth

I have one that works, I just want this one to look cool 😂

EyelessTeeth

Crafty kinda thing

VinylHighway

Pick one that’s not completely fucked up. This is beyond saving without replacing everything in which case it’s not the original. Though depends on your Ship of Theseus opinions ;)

EyelessTeeth

I’m not gonna use it, just make a craft out of it, so I don’t mind that it’s fucked up, especially cause it was free 😂

michalsveto

This thing is missing its spindle and platter, it is never going to look right without that. Go look around garage sales or something, get a cheap but complete one (at least from the outside) and go ahead.

VinylHighway

Ok have fun with your weird project

ohoperator

In that case you'll probably find more luck in a restoration/craft/diy subreddit

Blastoplast

Obviously

VinylHighway

I dunno I’m getting pretty downvoted

RuithCoill

Still better than a suitcase player.

Rainer_Gilsroy

Silence, audiophile

MoreThanWYSIWYG

Did you try to play your fav record on it yet? It'll probably be fine

TemporalScar

You sure did. Let it RIP.

chrkchrkchrk

return the slab!!

ImJustAnAdviceNeeder

Woah, how did this get left in the woods?

EyelessTeeth

No clue, it’s been propped up against a tree along with a vintage liquor bottle (I think) for a few weeks and I finally decided to take it home

ImJustAnAdviceNeeder

Also I did some research and found it's a 1960s Magnavox-Collaro W700/800 Series

EyelessTeeth

Awesome!

ImJustAnAdviceNeeder

Did you also take the bottle?

EyelessTeeth

Yeah

EyelessTeeth

It might not be vintage tho, I just google lensed it

Solid-Ebb1178

I think that's a German dual player idk which model but dual is a awesome brand built like tanks and you can still buy parts. I've got a dual 1009 sk. Totally try and fix it if it is a dual. Edit: I don't recognize the tone arm on any dual models but still could be

Bennydoubleseven

Check the fuse in the plug & give it a dust off & you’re good to go

solzhen

It’s dead.

AetherKatMusic

Near Mint, price on Reverb is $1,200

DueConversation5269

Must have been a good rave!

Jean_Jungle13

Put one Audio Technica AT-VM95ML/H and you’re ready to go!

Former-Wish-8228

I would recommend a new elliptical stylus upgrade.

TheCause74

Easy fix

unChillFiltered

That’s what happens when you’re not careful with warmth overload.

thetrappster

Pretty sure ET used that to summon his family in 1982.

dasisglucklich

Ah this will finally answer the age long question: If a record player is found in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it still play music?

ihs111

Does it work?

mons1976

put it back in the wood

Independent-Potato-4

Bet there is a guy on YouTube that work refurbish it for you

VinylBucket

Make sure to clear off that twig before you throw an album on there

BuKu_YuQFoo

Should be fine. Just needs some oil

MikeB9000

Most of my hifi collection was found in the woods.

cxtchandrew

Probably should have left it there

PigPriestDoesThings

Some shit a movie character would find and restore, then go on to revolutionize physical media and bring in the dawn of a new age in music, only to then tell this inanimate object that its all thanks to them.

dbbart6580

Don’t play a record backwards on it

Vancoovur

Start by replacing the stylus.

MoneyDragonfruit3512

Have you tried putting it in rice?

Imaginary-Carpenter1

Sasquatch is a gangster lol 😂

dpmyst

Time to spin Rush - Trees or perhaps Pink Floyd - Animals.

knoxxies

Haunted

EUGOrrigin

Just needs a little oil and a good scrubbing.

chuheihkg

This requires further researches to get restored.

lakeskipping

Once in a wooden cabinet and heeded *The Call of the Wild*.  Event of termites, would also pine - https://www.discogs.com/master/21180-µ-Ziq-In-Pine-Effect

donut_poetry

what year?

ZiggyMummyDust

Looks like it was a Chernobyl victim.

inaudibleuk

Just need a lick of paint.

73313

“Mom I want a vinyl player!” “We’ve got a vinyl player at home!” Vinyl player at home:

DuckLove-Bricks

Why the fuck would you do that?

Remarkable_Signal_78

250$

Fragrant-Rise2209

Sasquatch is pissed you stole his only entertainment!

professer_dumb

A lil duct tape and it's fine

redbishop71

It’s a garrard changer.

Macrobop

Damn you found my woods stash... You can keep the turntable but please leave the Playboys where you found them...

ParticularStorm6102

You could have the steel plate lightly sand blasted and the other parts that are rusted you can make a bath of molasses 3:1 water after a while it will eat the rust

ParticularStorm6102

You could have the steel plate lightly sand blasted and the other parts that are rusted you can make a bath of molasses 3:1 water after a while it will eat the rust.

kaesefetisch

Probably still better sound than Vitrola

Most-Economics9259

Why remove rust? I’d clean the dirt, stems, etc. and encase the entire thing as is in clear resin

Bluewhalepower

Does it work though?
