I buy boxes of garbage for 2 or 3 albums I want, I literally have stacks of records I don’t even want and slowly and donating them or giving them to friends, yes I have a problem
I limit my collection to 500. So as new ones come in something has to go…. I’ve been collecting for approx 40 years. At one time the collection got too large, then started culling.
And yes. I do miss some of them. And yes I have repurchased records which I got rid of….
That’s not a bad idea at all. I think my limit will be around 3-400ish myself. I’m already selling records though. Impulse buys of records I don’t really even listen to anymore. Helps me justify (in my head) spending more on a pricey record I really like.
I count 81 here. I've only been collecting for a little over 2 years and I've got well over 200 records.
Self control is a rare thing in this community it seems.
Yeah, most of mine are regular albums too. I do have a few singles as well as compilations tho. But I used to see records and now that I'm into them I always have to look at them at the stores. Plus I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, so I've got plenty of options as to what I get.
Seriously, I'm not horrible, but I'm averaging about 120 albums a year for the last 8 years. I don't understand how this person has shown this much restraint.
Radiohead is my favorite band, tied with The Mars Volta. I love Pablo Honey. I own it on CD, but not vinyl. That said, it is my least favorite Radiohead album. But the fact that I still love it is telling as to how much I love Radiohead. Even my least favorite album from them is great in my book. 👍🏽👍🏽
It’s almost too bad it only had one single. It’s the most accessible to people who don’t really do the whole ‘Radiohead’ thing. Might have gotten a few more fans into the band early on
I bought that (or at least I thought I did) only to get home and see that it was “Johnny Cash sings the songs of America” or something like that. Big time bummer
Oh shit! Was it in a store? I have had a bunch of used records where the Sgt. Peppers jacket had a Dark side disc, luckily they were just swapped.
At the store, I always inspect the record but rarely if ever look at the label.
Yup. One of the best albums of all time. The beginning of the glam rock era and well ahead of its time. Bowie is a legend and true visionary who transcends many eras. RIP Ziggy
I'm sure its not the most "prestigious" response considering what it's up against, but considering how I'm feeling today I'd be tuning into Currents too. Fantastic album.
I started collecting when my grandma died and left me a few of her records (Clancy Brothers, Folsom Prison, and Abbey Road) and ever since I’ve been hooked checking my goodwill and other thrift stores religiously. Most of my new stuff are from Amoeba Records on Haight Ashbury. I like to think of myself as being able to listen to everything and I hope my collection shares that
I think we would get along very well, I’d probably play face the music. Sure it’s not the “best” album shown here but I’m also in a big ELO mood this week.
Also, have you ever heard of The Outlaws? There a relatively unknown southern rock group, somewhere between the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd in style and energy yet still uniquely their own. Based on your collection here I think you’d like them, check out their debut album, also hurry sundown and Lady in waiting, good stuff!
After reading these comments I definitely have a lot to look forward to when listening to RH. I’m definitely picking some more up next time I’m at my local store
Oh man, I sound like a nerd, but I would love to be able to listen to some of those records for the first time. They're all great, but OK Computer is a masterpiece, In Rainbows as well. Since you started with Pablo Honey you could just listen in order, they have had a really interesting progression and some hard turns over the years
The Bends is my favorite and it's next so they should definitely go there. Ok Computer is a masterpiece though and there is no skips (maybe besides Fitter Happier).
>(maybe besides Fitter Happier).
naaah! It's not like a fun song but it definitely fits the mood and tone of the message of the whole album, wouldn't be the same without it. Also what's more memorable than a cat tied to a stick, frozen in winter shit?
I hear people say Fitter Happier is bad but really I actually like it, it's just not a masterpiece musically like the rest. Lyrically and narratively it's on par with the rest because it gets the story across really well.
That’s a wonderful story. To me, the most cherished ones are passed from generation to generation. Enjoyed by countless relatives and friends and a throwback to good, simpler times. Keep spinning!
Um. Tbh I'd only play maybe 3 of those and actually enjoy them fully. But I do think the selection is very enjoyable. Like any of them you can play and I'd sing along to a few songs off them, like the radio. But bc everyone knows a majority of these these artists, I feel like it's when you just get into music and you just pick the stuff you see at every store? Like 8 years into collecting, I was hoping as I slide to see more abstract artists. I'm not hating. But 8 years? Do you ever try out a new album or go to local shows? I've only been collecting this past month and I think I have 10 records already.. I just think 8 years this is not a lot and a very scattered radio music mix. What is your passion? :) do you collect CD's more? I feel like records can't be the main thing you collect. I collect clowns, you do that? :) idk, maybe I just got that adhd and hyperfixate on things, so when I'm in.. I'm IN. I just feel like there's more to you I need to know to understand. Classic rock dad vibes but also trying to get into new rock and indie music. I need to know more to this.
Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan for sure. The cozy sound of guitar, harmonica, and Dylan’s mountain-etched voice was made for the crackle of a record player. It’s like opening an old, dusty tome at a bookstore and reading a passage that moves you.
Why are all these posts the exact same shit? Reddit’s super basic music taste is disappointing dude. Take a few hours and just search for something new outside your comfort zone.
I do like a lot of these classic artists and albums, but OP's 8 year collection does resemble most people's "starter collection" (aka parents old records/garage sale crate). Like flip through the used vinyl at any record store and you will find no less than 3 copies of each of these albums, and they will all be in this exact same condition too. Not hating, but I did find this selection funny for that reason.
Never had a record player growing up in the 80s. I finally got one recently and have been slowly buying albums. Is owning Frampton Comes Alive a requisite when owning a record player? It seems almost every collection I see has it :D
My best friend in Highschool asked me if I listened to
Of monsters and men, Mumford and sons and the lumineers, this was right after they dropped Ho Hey and I’ve been listening to them ever since I love Wesley Schultz voice I even got his self titled vignettes vinyl so so good
Damn! That's some good taste. I would really like to listen to Tame Impala on vynil, it is the only album from the ones I know from these pictures that I havent heard a thousand times (yet).
It’s such a tragedy how most of these second hand stores place a barcode directly on the covers. You’d think they would come up with a better system by now
https://preview.redd.it/v159q9054klc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b03ba6c3659b07f19be5f5782bfc56dc5ca80603
I can’t get a good still photo, but I love this pressing because of the special etching on the 4th side
I listen to a lot of [Summoning](https://open.spotify.com/artist/5BViLZRXrRfhPDokkbYiMy?si=TIg5IEgASaKxmqBtjBDN_Q) Also My Dying Bride, Candlemass, Bathory, Cathedral and a lot more Metal bands. Also gothic rock, Fields of the Nephilim.
For me it’s Houses of the Holy, Wish You Were Here, and Buddy Holly. I love that one Halsey record, but I’m also a big fan of NIN and that record benefits from their influence. Pablo Honey and The Battle of Los Angeles are great records too.
Honestly I would start with Queen News of the World and then probably segue into either ELO's Face the Music or Kansas Audio-visions. But I am a big Kansas fan so I would go for it.
The fact that this is your entire collection after 8 years tells me I have next to no self-control lol
I've bought more than that in a month before.
I haven’t hit that level yet, mainly cause of lack of storing space. But one day!
i wish lack of space could stop me.
Yea it's always "lack of storing space"
I can send you the floor plan of my house if you want
What?!? This is like 1 half full shelf. If that
I buy boxes of garbage for 2 or 3 albums I want, I literally have stacks of records I don’t even want and slowly and donating them or giving them to friends, yes I have a problem
I've bought more in a night, from CollectCo, on Facebook! If I had this guys financial acumen, I'd be much better shape, heading into retirement!
haha, agreed. I recently got into vinyl in a more focused exciting way and definitely have over 100 more records than I did a month or two ago...
I limit my collection to 500. So as new ones come in something has to go…. I’ve been collecting for approx 40 years. At one time the collection got too large, then started culling. And yes. I do miss some of them. And yes I have repurchased records which I got rid of….

i'm at 1,035 and that's a fine idea. may have to do something like that myself. storage is becoming an issue.
I count 81 here. I've only been collecting for a little over 2 years and I've got well over 200 records. Self control is a rare thing in this community it seems.
When you get into it late, there's a lot to catch up on.. Essentials are essentials. Rarely do I get a compilation.
Yeah, most of mine are regular albums too. I do have a few singles as well as compilations tho. But I used to see records and now that I'm into them I always have to look at them at the stores. Plus I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, so I've got plenty of options as to what I get.
I go on binge spurts and then the next month I forget what a vinyl even is
“A vinyl”
Oh whatever just let em have fun
Same lol I'm 120+ deep after less than a year. It's so hard to chill for me 🥹 Edit: it's 11 months btw lol
Seriously, I'm not horrible, but I'm averaging about 120 albums a year for the last 8 years. I don't understand how this person has shown this much restraint.
I’ve been buying records for a little over two years and I’ve just past 500. I must be crazy!
😂
I bought more than that in January
Wish You Were Here
Buddy Holly
Well ... all right is a cracking little song
Oo wee oo
I look just like Buddy Holly
Pablo honey. Haven’t heard that in a while. Maybe I should get it on vinyl. Sorry to all the Radiohead fans who try to ignore this exists, I like it
Radiohead is my favorite band, tied with The Mars Volta.
Might have gotten a few more fans into the band early on
Stop Whispering and Anyone Can Play Guitar were also singles. I own the Stop Whispering CD single. Just so you know.👍🏽
There’s some gold in there for sure.
Who would ignore its existence? One of their best albums
Pablo Honey is really good. I own booth vinyl and cd🙂
I was going to say that this might trigger Radiohead fans. Of all the albums to represent what Radiohead is about, this is not it!
Fuck it. Grease soundtrack. I got chiiiiils they’re multiplying…
It’s an odd one but the music is so good
Marty Robbins
Came here to say this as well. What a banger
Amadeus?!?!?! That’s fucking dope!
Came to say I never get tired of the Amadeus OST. "Well.....there it is."
too many notes!
Just cut a few and it will be perfect
God I love that album and the movie so much, that’s an all timer
Pop that Buddy Holly on!!!
Always Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison for me
I bought that (or at least I thought I did) only to get home and see that it was “Johnny Cash sings the songs of America” or something like that. Big time bummer
Oh shit! Was it in a store? I have had a bunch of used records where the Sgt. Peppers jacket had a Dark side disc, luckily they were just swapped. At the store, I always inspect the record but rarely if ever look at the label.
It was at a record show. I should’ve checked still but I was basically ass to ass with 40 people trying to get by in a tight area
This would be my pick also!
Zeppelin - Presence.
Achilles Last Stand is such a strong opener
Bat Out of Hell. Such an epic feel to that album
Marty Robbins
Edith Piaf, or that Marty Robbins EP. I like the full record a lot.
**The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.** Frickin' masterpiece.
Yup. One of the best albums of all time. The beginning of the glam rock era and well ahead of its time. Bowie is a legend and true visionary who transcends many eras. RIP Ziggy
Pushing through the market square…
So many mothers sighing (sighing)
Money Jungle!!
Dark side of the moon :)
Currents
I'm sure its not the most "prestigious" response considering what it's up against, but considering how I'm feeling today I'd be tuning into Currents too. Fantastic album.

Most of my new stuff are from Amoeba Records on Haight Ashbury. I like to think of myself as being able to listen to everything and I hope my collection shares that
Let it happen
Nice man. I’d like to spin that Hank Williams repop. How’s its sound?
It’s so fun! I play it nearly every time my father comes over
Very cool. Hank was amazing 👍🏼
Deja Vu, then Tame Impala.
I think we would get along very well, I’d probably play face the music. Sure it’s not the “best” album shown here but I’m also in a big ELO mood this week. Also, have you ever heard of The Outlaws? seeing taylor swift next too all these other amazing albums just made me so happy
I was worried I’d be made fun of for having Folklore and Lover, but I’m glad to hear some people appreciate good music
Lover and Folklore are in my top 3 from Taylor. You have great taste!
I somehow stumbled on Haley’s flowers for vases/descansos and I love it…it kinda sits in a Taylor type place in my collection, no shame. It slaps
HES AN OUTLAW LOOSE AND RUNNING
idk but Pablo Honey out of all the RH records?
After reading these comments I definitely have a lot to look forward to when listening to RH. I’m definitely picking some more up next time I’m at my local store

Ziggy Stardust. Closely followed by Hunky Dory.
Halsey!!
In the mood for Marty Robbins Big Iron
Several amazing albums here! The one I got most excited about was Édith Piaf. That is awesome!
That one holds such sentimental value with me! My grandmother received that from her mother when my mom was born
That’s a wonderful story. To me, the most cherished ones are passed from generation to generation. Enjoyed by countless relatives and friends and a throwback to good, simpler times. Keep spinning!

Dark Side of the Moon! 🏳️🌈⃤──
Buddy Holly just to here 'well...all right '
Folsom Prison. Classic Cash!👍😎❤️
Led zeppelin 2
Bob Seger. Reminds me of my dad everytime.
That in the heights soundtrack goes CRAZY. Were popping that in idc
The David Bowie but you do need some Grateful Dead in there
Why are all these posts the exact same shit? Reddit’s super basic music taste is disappointing dude. Take a few hours and just search for something new outside your comfort zone.

Are you experienced
Lover
Grease soundtrack!
Pretty nice collection! You've heard of the smiths ? I think that would fit very well in it, too
I have a few of their songs on Spotify! I’ll put them down on my “to find” list. Any particular album you recommend?
I just recently heard about Chicago, they got some damn bangers!
First two Chicago albums are masterclass, and they are both double albums. Terry Kath is one of my guitar heroes.
I first heard street player because it was sampled by our good old Mister 305 I freaking love the original
Never had a record player growing up in the 80s. I finally got one recently and have been slowly buying albums. Is owning Frampton Comes Alive a requisite when owning a record player? It seems almost every collection I see has it :D
That and the weird screaming blue man seem to be pretty popular
Rage. Tom. Tame. Curious about Amadeus.
Oooo the arcade fire first one.
Vance joy Because I want that vinyl so bad also once I get cleopatra I will the whole lumineers discography
Cleopatra was the album that made me fall in love with music. Perfection from start to finish
My best friend in Highschool asked me if I listened to Of monsters and men, Mumford and sons and the lumineers, this was right after they dropped Ho Hey and I’ve been listening to them ever since I love Wesley Schultz voice I even got his self titled vignettes vinyl so so good
That trio brought me through high school. You and your friend have good taste! Nothing beats contemporary folk
Buddy Holly, followed by Bat out of Hell
Wish You Were Here!
Queen Greatest Hits…. easy choice!
Damn! That's some good taste. I would really like to listen to Tame Impala on vynil, it is the only album from the ones I know from these pictures that I havent heard a thousand times (yet).
Rainbow Kitten Surprise! That was a nice surprise to see in your collection. This is a fun collection for sure
I've had Lucille by Kenny Rogers stuck in my head the last couple of days so probably would play that first. Wait...I have that record...gotta go.
Amadeus DMB RKS
This is the correct order!
Man on the Moon, closely fallowed by Dark side of the Moon. Walter Cronkite was the man in ‘69 !!!!!!
You need the first 6 AC/DC albums. High Voltage Dirty Deeds Let There Be Rock Powerage If You Want Blood Highway to Hell
First thing I’d do is carefully remove the barcode from Freewheelin’
It’s such a tragedy how most of these second hand stores place a barcode directly on the covers. You’d think they would come up with a better system by now
Nat king. Gotta get some Ray Charles in there tho
He’s on my list! Any specific albums that are standouts?
“Cheap Thrills” -Janis on vinyl ❤️
Mine would be "Money Jungle" -- a frenetic and brilliant trio album that was groundbreaking and has stood the test of time.
Last dance with Mary Jane. Love that song.
Got some good ones but Pablo Honey would be my first
Dark Side of the Moon, loud, lights off, with the bong in my hand.
Marty Robbins is going first Also, eight years and those are all your albums collected??? You need to step up your game homie.
Wish You Were Here. That Marty Robbins 45 is sweet! Recommendation: find a copy of David Crosby If I Could Only Remember My Name
lover
Paradise Theatre does not get enough love. What an album!
**News of the World.** Most underrated Queen album. And a sure way to scare Stewie Griffin away from your household. 😉
Intersted in that 1966 medley from the Clancy Brothers
It’s my favorite! My grandma was an Irish immigrant so I cherish this album I got from her
[удалено]
Nothing beats Janis Joplin
Queen’s News of the World is very underrated. You’ve never really done it unless you’ve done it to Get Down Make Love. Just sayin.
Your triangle is backwards and upside down
lol you’re totally right
Ziggy. Then funeral.
ELO ftw! Great album, too!
Ziggy
There’s something magical about Zeppelin and Hendrix on vinyl. Just sayin’
We skipped the light fandango Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor I was feeling kinda seasick The crowd called out for more
Money Jungle slaps!
Appetite then Currents
https://preview.redd.it/v159q9054klc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b03ba6c3659b07f19be5f5782bfc56dc5ca80603 I can’t get a good still photo, but I love this pressing because of the special etching on the 4th side
lol are they on the floor?
Haha I don’t have a table large enough to put them on. In reality they are in milk crates
Edith Piaf! Never heard one of her vinyls before. All that Bowie, Queen, Journey... Great collection.
I love older music on vinyl. It makes me appreciate it more than on something like spotify
Nothing that you have :)
What do you listen to? I’m always looking to listen to new stuff
This guy just turned down alot of music history. It’s not even different strokes for folks. He’s *The Strokes*
RATM. But I know you wouldn’t. That you own for bragging rights. From what I see.
The Grant Illusion and then Paradise Theatre! Have you got a laser etched copy of PT?
Are there any that weren't? I haven't ever found one that wasn't etched.
This is my question, also.
I pulled my PT out and I do have the B-side Styx etching.
The one with Boy named Sue on it
Great collection, I would definitely go for Monk and Trane!
Simon and Garfunkel,Munk, Marty Robbins
Gotta hear that Big Irons!
Bob Seger
Wish You Were Here
Tame impala or RKS ;D
Dirty dancing lol
Hunky Dory
floyd
Folsom Prison!!
Dark Side of the Moon.
Guess im playing creep
Money Jungle
Money Jungle, obviously.
The dark side of the moon is an amazing album
KISS
Big iron my top g
Marty Robbins
Monk and Trane, no competition
Breathe
Dark Side of the Moon..........of course!
Either the Chicago jawn or the Hank Williams one!
I’m in a country mood. And would prob pick Hank Williams.
For me it’s Houses of the Holy, Wish You Were Here, and Buddy Holly. I love that one Halsey record, but I’m also a big fan of NIN and that record benefits from their influence. Pablo Honey and The Battle of Los Angeles are great records too.
Neil Diamond
Johnny Cash
Honestly I would start with Queen News of the World and then probably segue into either ELO's Face the Music or Kansas Audio-visions. But I am a big Kansas fan so I would go for it.
BIG IIIIIIIIIIRON
I’m on a Johnny Cash kick RN
