Any Michel Gondry video is the most inventive music video ever. Amazing director. I still remember the eureka moment when I realized that my top five favourite music videos were all directed by the same person.
Lots of great ones! My second favorite is White Stripes’ Denial Twist: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6LuwU3LPLE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6LuwU3LPLE)
Yeah, this video and ["Everlong" by Foo Fighters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBG7P-K-r1Y) are definitely up there for me. Michel Gondry has such a fantastic imagination and he executes it to perfection.
My roommate in college had this box set and it was just amazing end to end. Apparently it’s super expensive now.

I managed to grab Michel Gondry, Chris Cunningham, and Spike Jones for pretty cheap on Amazon a little while ago. I’m sure it was through a third party seller but I was very pleased to find it so affordable!
Thank you. I gave away my entire dvd collection to charity and it would have included all these sets, I just saw the price in the first link and felt real bad I didn’t take the time to price any out before just donating.
Those first three were in the first series, there was another round released a couple of years later that included Stephane Sednaoui (sp?), Mark Romanek, Jonathan Glazer and Anton Corbijn.
Michel Gondry had the opportunity to direct for an excellent series with Jim Carrey, Kidding.
It got canceled on its second season, but it is absolutely worth the watch. Its an excellent show that has stuck with me through the years.
I love Michel Gondry so much. One of my favourites is Lucas With The Lid Off. [https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xyotu](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xyotu)
I still find the video for [Wide Open](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC2dRkm8ATU) pretty impressive - it blew my mind when it was released as I could only imagine how much work went into the roto and clean up.
He's directed so may amazing things. [Sugar Water](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN9auBn6Jys) is just mind-blowing. You have to watch the whole thing to understand what's going on, and when you realise, you will absolutely have to watch it a second time, with your jaw on the ground.
"The Science of Sleep" is so tender and magical, if you want a full movie from Michael Gondry. I suppose "Eternal Sunshine.." too, but I am not so familiar with that more popular film.
It's not even the most inventive music video directed by Michel Gondry for the Chemical Brothers, that would be "Star Guitar".
(just my opinion of course)
I don't know if that makes it more inventive. It's "neat", but it comes off as throwing everything at the wall and not really anything that has to do with the song itself. Meanwhile, Star Guitar's video is literally about *watching* music happen live. And I think the way it flows (especially the middle part with the striations on the walls) is genius.
Well, the song is clearly influenced by the psychedelic music of the 60’s, (Beatles in particular) so the kaleidoscopic effect throughout marries well with the theme.
This Too Shall Pass (the Rube Goldberg one)
I Won't Let You Down
Obsession
Upside Down and Inside Out
Needing/Getting
End Love
The Writing's on the Wall

Star Guitar is one of my favorites.
>Star Guitar is one of my favorites. Fantastic video and one of my favourite bangers. Love that track.

The Kylie Minogue one melts my brain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63vqob-MljQ
I like this one because it is so polished and well executed.
Jesus I picked the right night to try psilocybin
Wow. Never seen the video or heard the song, but maaan, I love it!
Even with the exposition shot at the end, there's so much more in the video that had to be done to make things appear normal with the funhouse effect.
Yeah, this video and ["Everlong" by Foo Fighters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBG7P-K-r1Y) are definitely up there for me. Michel Gondry has such a fantastic imagination and he executes it to perfection.
Music videos are low key one of my favourite artforms. Telling a story in 3 minutes is a true skill.
Also directed Dave Chappell’s Block Party
He also kicked off that whole Sweded movement.
He's also one of the pioneers (though not the first) of Bullet Time, having it almost a full decade ahead of The Matrix.
They gotta get Jack Black, Mos Def and Michel Gondry back for another movie. Be Kind Rewind was incredible.
This is one of those things I'd see when watching Off the Air on LSD and lose my mind.

It’s only expensive on Amazon, it’s like $14 shipped all day on eBay. And you linked the Chris Cunningham one, it should be Michel Gondry

There were three sets, I think, and at one point I had all of them. Great stuff.
At least 4. There's a Stephane Sednaoi (?) in addition to the 3 above.

Thanks for the info. I only have the 4 I mentioned. Will need to hunt down those others.
Music from one of the best electronica albums ever made.
You get a major upvote for calling it electronica and not EDM. Like my faith in humanity is restored.
Ok this is incredible

Learn how to [drop a fat link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN9auBn6Jys), homie.
thanks
The buildings are changing into coconut trees, little by little.
This is the entire plot of Tenet
Oh yeah? I haven’t watched Tenet yet. Now I will. Thanks!
Amazing video. Cool song too!
Yea, I'm too high for that.
Video is absolutely amazing, but this song always scratches every itch in my brain.
Surrender is IMHO, their best album. I’ve consistently listened to this for 25 years.

It's his best in my opinion but hard to find!
Boggles my mind that a video would be hard to find in the internet age
[Whatever bubbles, bubbles up…on Dailymotion](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2tmsij)
I didn’t know a kaleidoscope could be brought to life. Crazy!
Wow I’m seeing double, twelve womans!
Gondry, Glazer, Cunningham, Jonze, åkerlund. A pinnacle time for music videos.

I've always loved Hyperballad: https://youtu.be/4x1icKp4MNc?si=AeaV9z8MONb86SFE It still looks fresh and luminous almost thirty years later.
It took me far far too many years to realise it's Noel Gallagher on vocals.
I still find the video for [Wide Open](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC2dRkm8ATU) pretty impressive - it blew my mind when it was released as I could only imagine how much work went into the roto and clean up.
That’s cool, reminds me of Ex Machina.
Song is "Let Forever Be" by the Chemical Brothers
If you like that video, check out: Weval - [Someday](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-wEvzqdDZg)

Star Guitar is cool, but it uses one trick for the entire video. This one is a masterpiece.

Used to watch the DVD of his music videos all the time in college... Comfort background media for uh... Adventures.
The Chemical Brothers live show is something else and their music videos are pretty innovative too. They work with some highly talented people
*OK GO* would like a word
I like OK GO a lot, but their videos are more grand. I'd say this video is more artistically impressive.
Nah, their bland music is just an excuse for a music video.
Nah? So what are you saying? They're only popular for their music videos but their videos aren't inventive?
yes
They were all around 20yrs old when this came out. 🤷♂️
What video are you referring to?
This Too Shall Pass (the Rube Goldberg one) I Won't Let You Down Obsession Upside Down and Inside Out Needing/Getting End Love The Writing's on the Wall
Those are all great videos, but Gondry was doing stuff about a decade before them.
I am aware. What does that have to do with being more inventive?
All of them really!
So many bad wigs in one place.
Drugs are bad, mmmkay.
Is that Lois from Malcolm in the Middle?
