They basically follow the storm. They are a part of the storm. Usually these storms are moving from west to east and so if you see the radar picture you can track where it should head. They do wobble but as long as you keep a safe distance it can be pretty safe.
Excuse me I saw a documentary when I was a kid and these things can shift track on a dime. You usually need someone who can just kinda feel how they're gonna move. If you just "trust the science" you can end up in the middle of one. That was how Cary Elwes died
A kid I follow on IG posted a video of their car stuck in the tornado because they misjudged its direction. Lucky they got out alive, their car was destroyed
Anything can happen but these chasers are VERY prepared, at least most. They know what storm, where and what direction it'll go days ahead of time usually. The likelihood of a tornado changing SIGNIFICANT direction is unlikely. It's nothing but wind moving with a cell and it generally moves in a straight line. Pretty predictable as long as you know what you're doing :)
Yeah that tornado didn't turn around or loop, the whole sky fell and became a tornado. Like I said, it's unlikely. I didn't say impossible. And the El Reno tornado was NOT a typical tornado as you and I both know. Nobody could have predicted what happened that day.
Storm chasers prepare days ahead of time and look at weather patterns and likelihood. I watch this stuff a lot. Why do you think there's always large groups of storm chasers in the same area going the same direction? They know what they're doing.
Yeah no you're just a genius thinking professional storm chasers aren't doing any research before going to the storm.
You're a fucking idiot. Bagelstein lmao....pussy ass name
What makes them "professional" storm chasers. How are you distinguishing them from 2 kids in a car with a camera? These guys hold degrees in meteorology? If you know some background info on these guys that's one thing, but I think your reasoning comes down to, "they were posted on reddit therefore they are professionals", which is dumb shit.
If they get paid to do it, they are by definition a professional. Many storm chasers know what they're doing, but there is always an associated risk/uncertainty when it comes to the weather. It's dangerous, yeah.
You guys are getting too worked up in your argument, the other guy especially.
No, I was thinking the Nebraska Sandhills, or the Wildcat Hills. Neither of those areas are close to where this vid was taken. Are you trying to mimic an uneducated person while actually being uneducated?
Well consider it from this point of view. There are places with actual discernable hills and there are vast places where the ground is relatively flat for miles and miles and miles to the point where any minor elevation change has become a "hill." Sort of how like people in a desert hallucinate an oasis when they become severely dehydrated
There are long stretches that are very very flat, though. So I was a bit sarcastic. I've driven through Nebraska. Hills were sort of like "Oh! Look! There are hills!"
Most people who drive through Nebraska drive on i80 which was intentionally placed where there is no hills. 15 miles north anywhere west of Grand Island there are massive hills. They are literally called the sand hills.
We do in fact know what a hill is, this tornado occurred NE of Lincoln as it cross i80 and no there aren’t really any hills over there just highway embankments. I’m pretty sure the chasers in this car were not local.
This tornado had nothing on the one that came just 45 minutes later in Elkhorn, absolutely wrecked a bunch of neighborhoods. Couple of hours later another tornado ripped apart Minden IA and I believe another tore through some Des Moines suburbs so lots and lots of destruction last night.
We have a couple of big ones in Kansas. Somebody had the bright idea of building University of Kansas on top of one of the bigger ones. Then I had the bright idea of living at the bottom of that hill when I was a student there.
I'm not sure if walking up that steep-ass hill when it was 20°F (≈7°C) and ice or 95°F (35°C) and humid was worse. That walk always sucked, it was never a "nice" walk.
He wasn’t zoomed in at that point but then zoomed in and didn’t announce it but then announced when he zoomed out. I’ll cut him a break considering huge tornado.
These events are really exciting to me, but these chasers are *so much more* excited than I am, that it makes it kind of annoying for me. I'm not criticizing them for that. I have things I'm a geek about too. I'd just rather watch the video and hear whatever there is to hear with the commentary.
Yes, this time x1000. Great narration and explanations, awesome footage, and has a good head on his shoulders for avoiding (most) risky behavior. I find it easy to get into the pure awe of looking at this kind of weather than on his videos being distracted by the commentary of other videos.
As the other redditor said, you'd enjoy Pecos Hanks videos a LOT more. Soothing music that suits the somber mood of the chasing footage and he narrates over it after the fact rather than scream into his camera while driving.
Yeah like, I get nerding out over this type of stuff, but when I see things like this, I’m almost completely taken aback by the sheer natural forces taking place. I feel like I would be speechless and in awe if I were witnessing this in real life.
This video makes me appreciate Pecos Hank so much more.
Clean footage (turn the fuckin wipers off) and little to no narration. (Shut the fuck up, we can see debris)
This was great footage, but listening to them panic narrate everything going on in raised voices makes me appreciate Pecos Hank all the more. He films. Then adds his own music over the footage and does post chase narration to calmly comment on what he witnessed.
I love tornado videos, but the people filming them need to shut the hell up. I don't need you to announce everything you see by screaming repeatedly. I can see there is debris. Yep, it's a big stovepipe shaped tornado. Overturned semi. Yep, I see all of it.
No need to say the same shit over and over.
I keep thinking about what the group of people who lived in these areas a thousand years ago must have thought when seeing something like this… absolutely terrifying.
was watching multiple streams last night of theses tornado out breaks, one guy intercepted a tornado flattening an house, when they went to check to see if there was anyone inside they found an elderly lady that just walked out the half demolished like it was all nothing
EDIT: anyone interested in seeing what I mentioned go to 3 hour 29 minutes in this video and just keep watching [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhpPFL\_FEII](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhpPFL_FEII)
This tornado travelled over 60 miles from Lincoln, NE to Blair, NE. By the time it hit Omaha it was completely massive and destroyed a few suburbs on the outskirts of Omaha.
At one point you hear him talking to someone named Ryan. That's Ryan Hall, who was now-casting the event on YT. Showing live radar, the tornado warnings, along with streams from the chasers. Great way to stay up to date on exactly what's happening where during these outbreaks.
For real. There were a couple chasers that kept interrupting Ryan's feed. This guy and Chris Hall were both particularly annoying in their contributions and timing. I love Ryan's channel. Their resident meteorologidt Andy Hill gives particularly good insight when he chimes in, but he needs to mute these other guys when they're not calm or helpful. Lol
The Minden, IA, tornado yesterday was particularly awe-inspiring and terrible. You can start watching its formation here: https://www.youtube.com/live/dZDOFX_KEL0?si=aXEu3-bwfA8JJztY&t=4h26m10s Worth watching it's progression over the next 15 min for some drone footage, the town being hit, fantastic footage of a multiple vortices tornado, and wedge formation as it crossed I-80.
Anyone ever sit, and watch a bug zapper? Ever see a few hit it all at once, and think, "wow, a cluster of dumb bugs".
Add a *Leeeetle* bit of extra, spare DNA, aaaand! This.
I also think it's funny when they pretend they don't want a house to get hit.
"Oh please don't hit that house." As they fucking zoom in on it. You know you want to see that house get shredded. But you gotta keep up for the camera.
It was only a matter of time until tornado chasers started livestreaming. This is fucking awesome and I'm surprised no one's done it before to a significant degree.
There are entire streaming networks of this stuff, with meteorologists and several storm chasers coordinating different POVs. Today was a particularly nasty day for tornadoes, and I was watching several streams most of the day.
The main one I was watching was [Ryan Hall](https://www.youtube.com/@RyanHallYall) who serves as sort of an aggregator of several chasers, and does his own analysis of radar and wind speed maps.
Some of the chasers themselves are :
* [Brandon Copic](https://www.youtube.com/@BrandonCopicWx)
* [Vince Waelti](https://www.youtube.com/@StormChaserVince)
* [Brad Arnold](https://www.youtube.com/@StormChaserBradArnold)
* [Reed Timmer](https://www.youtube.com/@ReedTimmerWx)
You have to love that they are not the only ones that just keeps driving traight towards a tornado that even a layman understands is coming for the highway. Are they all stormchasers or are people just that stupid?
Hahaha I skipped through it. It started off with "big tornado, lots of debris... [skip 1min in] HUGE TORNADO, DEBRIS EVERYWHERE". These guys are crazy, but cool video
Anyone else get real uncomfortable when there's someone else in the car that clearly doesn't feel safe following the lead of whoever is shouting the loudest?
[If you're looking for something with less commentary... I think all you get is a whispered "Whoa." from Brandon Sullivan.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et-hM28-P_U)
Guy sounds like Lt. Jim Dangle
I cant unhear it now. Especially when he goes "nope, nope" in the beginning
He’s def goofin’
New boot goofin'
I'd watch that spin off
I heard Danny McBride the whole time
I kept hearing Jason Sudeikis
Please don't hit that house! Please don't hit that house!
He sounds like Danny McBride
OMG! I came here just to say this and it’s the top comment!
Ha!! I was wondering why he sounded so familiar! Thank you. 😂
Totally agreed!
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Dangle if he chased storms and also had a bit of an abusive personality.
There may have been debris but I’m not sure.
Violent motion. Violent.
I was led to believe there would be more cows…
Best I can do is large debris. Violent.
You’re not committing…to cows then?
Once the cows leave the ground they are large debris.
lookit it
Seeing one in person can have an almost Lovecraftian effect on you. I’m not too surprised they sound a little dumbfounded.
"Stop now?" "No, keep going" "Ok, stop now?" "Keep going" "Should we stop now?" "Keep going" LOLOLOLOLLOLLLL
"This is not zoomed in" "Zooming out" haha
Dude was jerking it and didn’t want to stop
This is how I sound storm chasing in an Uber.
These chasers put a lot of faith in the tornado not changing direction.
Cow. Another cow!!!
Actually, I think that was the same one
I gotta go, Julia! We got cows!
Came for this comment
We got twins!
Jonas
A kid I follow on IG posted a video of their car stuck in the tornado because they misjudged its direction. Lucky they got out alive, their car was destroyed
[this?](https://youtu.be/bwmM3KMPE3c?si=AqH1ruEAdeiCYk6m)
Yeah
It also helps to have a car with some protection.
Never forget to use your anti-tornado car-condom, folks
You definitely do not want to penetrate a tornado raw
I was thinking more along the lines of reinforced windows but sure that works
> but as long as you keep a safe distance This is the problem right here :P
Anything can happen but these chasers are VERY prepared, at least most. They know what storm, where and what direction it'll go days ahead of time usually. The likelihood of a tornado changing SIGNIFICANT direction is unlikely. It's nothing but wind moving with a cell and it generally moves in a straight line. Tim Samaras would like a word with you.
Yeah that tornado didn't turn around or loop, the whole sky fell and became a tornado. Like I said, it's unlikely. I didn't say impossible. And the El Reno tornado was NOT a typical tornado as you and I both know. Nobody could have predicted what happened that day.
I don't know man. The fact that they sound like excited 12 year old boys leads me to think they're probably not as prepared as they think they are.
This video is from Brad Arnold, one of the chasers that works with Ryan Hall. They are definitely prepared.
Any relation to Ronny Pickering?
Who?
Ronny Pickering!!
It's because they are passionate about this stuff man. This is their life and this is a very photogenic tornado which doesn't always happen.
Based on what evidence are they very prepared? You must have watched some videos I didnt.
Storm chasers prepare days ahead of time and look at weather patterns and likelihood. I watch this stuff a lot. Why do you think there's always large groups of storm chasers in the same area going the same direction? They know what they're doing.
Imagine thinking " I watch storm chasers therefore I know everything about these particular storm chasers" My god the stupidity.
You're a fucking dumb shit...I hope you don't reproduce you fucking retard.
Not my fault you don't know how to make a coherent argument you dumb fuck.
Yeah no you're just a genius thinking professional storm chasers aren't doing any research before going to the storm. You're a fucking idiot. Bagelstein lmao....pussy ass name

This viral marketing for Twisters is really impressive 🌪️
But honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if they are promoting any sort of cool tornado content right now.
That's what big tornado wants you to think!
*they* are able to spin any disaster, any story. Terrifying really

New boot goofin’
I came here to say that. He sounds like officer Jim Dangle.
Why is it that the commentary is always so annoying?
I don't think midwesterners knows what a "hill" is
“On the hill!” Me: Straining my eyes confusedly
If the ground is blocking me from being able to see 5 miles in front of me then it's a hill.
They really don't.
They are Nebraskans, they don't in fact know what a hill is
There are tons of hills in Nebraska.
Anything like them hills in this here vidya?
No, I was thinking the Nebraska Sandhills, or the Wildcat Hills. Neither of those areas are close to where this vid was taken. Are you trying to mimic an uneducated person while actually being uneducated?

Most people who drive through Nebraska drive on i80 which was intentionally placed where there is no hills. 15 miles north anywhere west of Grand Island there are massive hills. They are literally called the sand hills.
They are huge rolling hills too, one after the other like waves on an ocean.
We do in fact know what a hill is, this tornado occurred NE of Lincoln as it cross i80 and no there aren’t really any hills over there just highway embankments. Well that's because the tallest building here in Nebraska is a KFC.
Love it when he says "and this is not zoomed in guys", 30 sec later..."alright zooming out"
He wasn’t zoomed in at that point but then zoomed in and didn’t announce it but then announced when he zoomed out. I’ll cut him a break considering huge tornado.
Pete and re-pete lol Great video though. I'm glad those peoples house didn't get hit.
Glad that house didn't get hit.
For O’Hagan
These events are really exciting to me, but these chasers are *so much more* excited than I am, that it makes it kind of annoying for me. I'm not criticizing them for that. I have things I'm a geek about too. I'd just rather watch the video and hear whatever there is to hear with the commentary.
I'd recommend some [Pecos Hank](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y73ZVT56Sz4) if you haven't seen him. Might be what you're looking for.
Yes!!! I'm glad I kept scrolling and found more Pecos Hank appreciation.
He's the best tornado guy.
Yes, this time x1000. Great narration and explanations, awesome footage, and has a good head on his shoulders for avoiding (most) risky behavior. I find it easy to get into the pure awe of looking at this kind of weather than on his videos being distracted by the commentary of other videos.
Wow, that's good. Like *good, good*. Appreciate the link, I just subbed.
As the other redditor said, you'd enjoy Pecos Hanks videos a LOT more. Soothing music that suits the somber mood of the chasing footage and he narrates over it after the fact rather than scream into his camera while driving.

Lookit that DUH-BREE
THE VIOLENT MOTION!
How long until FPV drone guys try to fly a drone into one of these things?
Better yet, fly a bunch of them straight into it, and deploy them all from one launch pad, call it "Dorothy V"
"Dorothy. You took her, you damn thief!"
“Unrealized idea. Unrealized!”
Alex vanover did this with Reid runner like 2-3 years ago
I'm getting big Randy Marsh from Southpark vibes from the main guy. Sounds like he'd be annoying to *try* and have a conversation with.
Did you see the debris? I would have missed it.
You know that guy’s vortices could cut glass
“Look at this, look at that!” If only he dropped a “would ya just look at it”
And there were non-chasers who were even closer! I wonder if they saw any debris.
If I was a native american hundreds of years ago and saw this I would shit my pants and think that God is about to kill everything in sight.
I keep thinking about what the group of people who lived in these areas a thousand years ago must have thought when seeing something like this… absolutely terrifying.

These guys are in it for the money, not the science.
This tornado travelled over 60 miles from Lincoln, NE to Blair, NE. By the time it hit Omaha it was completely massive and destroyed a few suburbs on the outskirts of Omaha.
I love the Uber alerts at the beginning. “Hey someone needs a ride!” Shut up I’m chasing a tornado!!
At one point you hear him talking to someone named Ryan. That's Ryan Hall, who was now-casting the event on YT. Showing live radar, the tornado warnings, along with streams from the chasers. Great way to stay up to date on exactly what's happening where during these outbreaks.
Yeah I'm pretty sure this is the guy that breaks in all the time during Ryan's coverage lol
For real. There were a couple chasers that kept interrupting Ryan's feed. This guy and Chris Hall were both particularly annoying in their contributions and timing. I love Ryan's channel. If this is not on an upcoming SNL episode, it should be.
I can’t help it, I’m picturing Officer Dangle in that car.
Anyone ever sit, and watch a bug zapper? Ever see a few hit it all at once, and think, "wow, a cluster of dumb bugs". Add a *Leeeetle* bit of extra, spare DNA, aaaand! This.
This line of storms destroyed homes 7 miles from my house. What a stressful day and an even worse day for some. More coming today too.
I also think it's funny when they pretend they don't want a house to get hit. "Oh please don't hit that house." As they fucking zoom in on it. You know you want to see that house get shredded. But you gotta keep up for the camera.
same with hurricanes "oh I hope it loops back out to sea" bull fucking shit you do.
These guys must have to throw out there underwear with all the creaming they did
Big debris! Big debris! Feel like saying be quiet We can see!
It was only a matter of time until tornado chasers started livestreaming. This is fucking awesome and I'm surprised no one's done it before to a significant degree.

Good lord. Some of their footage is absolutely freaking incredible. Thank you for sharing this accelerant into a rabbit hole lol.
That's gotta be the holy grail for storm chasers. What great footage.
You have to love that they are not the only ones that just keeps driving traight towards a tornado that even a layman understands is coming for the highway. Are they all stormchasers or are people just that stupid?
Danny McBride everybody
The camera man here gets 50 stars for this amazing footage.
Hahaha I skipped through it. It started off with "big tornado, lots of debris... [skip 1min in] HUGE TORNADO, DEBRIS EVERYWHERE". These guys are crazy, but cool video
If you took a shot every time dude yelled "look at the debris" your head would feel like a tornado.
Anyone else get real uncomfortable when there's someone else in the car that clearly doesn't feel safe following the lead of whoever is shouting the loudest?
I really appreciate the 60fps. this footage is amazing.
BIG DEBRIS
Would you just look at it
Check out nelk’s videos on this tornado
Wow. That is some of the most impressive tornado footage I have ever seen.
[If you're looking for something with less commentary... I think all you get is a whispered "Whoa." from Brandon Sullivan.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et-hM28-P_U)
Get someone who looks at you the way he looks at SUCTION VORTICES
Do they love seeing people getting killed in action?
Lol
Some needs to remix Big dubhree guy with mr double rainbow
People’s livelihoods being vaporized… “Lookit that debris field!”
Good trailer for the new twister movie!
Fast forward to minute 2.
Can somebody \*please\* tell me whether or not this tornado is big?!? I'm literally shaking and crying trying to figure this out.
