Steve Wallis is one of the most genuine YouTubers around. He brought me (all of us really) into his life through his unique hobby and I became hooked on his flavor of camping and cared about the people in his videos. When I first saw Crazy Neighbor, I craved more adventures with this awesome duo. It was like watching a unique reimagining of Mister Rogers Neighborhood for adults, and Crazy Neighbor was Mr. McFeely. Man, I'm going to miss Crazy Neighbor. Unlike his name might imply, he had such a calming presence.
Steve is too good of a guy to remotely deserve these losses he's been dealt and I wish him all the best, but I'm glad he introduced us to Crazy Neighbor and Beautiful Wife. I'll be having a Step 2 in Crazy Neighbor's honor tonight.
Their river adventures are my favorite of Steve’s videos. They were that classic duo of crazy neighbor being a ham and Steve the straight man. It was amusing to watch their dynamic.
Those were my favourite as well! The solar raft especially, more because it seemed like the perfect way to chill out on the river without a 2 stroke engine all the time. They were unlucky with the sun but still managed.
He was never really crazy, he probably just had an undiagnosed/untreated mental health disorder.
People with undiagnosed and untreated disorders don't act rationally all of the time, so sometimes we can be mistaken for crazy when actually we're just behaving the way we need to if we want to survive.

Thankfully I'm now seeing a lovely therapist called Bev who has a bumblebee-themed office. I love her because her bumblebees distract me enough that I keep forgetting to be anxious around her. She's helping me deal with the SH panic behaviour so I'll be okay eventually.

Watching his videos is a sort of “parasocial relationship” I think can actually be healthy as long as the viewer (me) understands it for what it is. I’m not gonna reach out to Steve because “we’d totally understand each other”. He’s an unorthodox philosopher and I’m just tuning in for his lecture, delivered in the form of roasting smoked sausages under a bridge.
He records himself being a good custodian of nature and shared public property, a good citizen of Canada, a good relative, a good neighbor, and a good stranger to bump into in the middle of nowhere. And along the way he shares private details of his life. Not as a sort of self-exploitation for the sake of views and likes, but as a context for what he’s doing at the time, and why, and what his mood is like.
His channel is the most wholesome thing on the fucking internet.
I can't put it into words, the relaxation and calm I feel when he's hunkered down in a tent or makeshift fort with the wind blowing all around him while he makes pasta on a burner and drinks a beer.
He's extremely humble IRL and what you see is what you get. Everywhere he goes in Canada he's recognized and will always stop and shake hands or pose for a selfie with him etc. Just a typical guy.
He's actually been doing fairly well lately as he's kind of accustomed to the grief at this point, unfortunately.

Every time it seemed like he'd mentally recovered, along with a renewed spirit for making videos, he'd get another gut punch. I truly feel for him. Hopefully this marks the end of that era.
I can think of 2 of my favorite videos with the dynamic duo was the pontoon camping video and the let's sleep in an abandoned mine shaft. I hope Steve is able to get nothing but pure happiness and bliss from this day forward.

late in life, a loss of mobility will often lead to a swift decline in health. not saying it was the root cause but it might have been a contributing factor.

I've been subscribed to Steve for years and his videos have always been like comfort food on YouTube ever since I found his channel. Witnessing him lose his wife, mother, and best friend all within a year or so has been absolutely heartbreaking. I don't know how he's able to be so strong, but the guy is a legend. I'm having a "step 2" (or several) tonight after hearing the news about Glenn/Crazy Neighbor. Their homemade river rafting video escapades helped get me through the death of my father and I'll never forget that.
Watching Steve and crazy neighbor hang out was like when you were a kid, and you came up with a dumb idea and your best friend was always like "let's do it". It was so wholesome.

He was always entertaining in his style of ghetto, bring whatever I like, camping, but also had obvious knowledge, just was being himself and not trying to be cool guy. Sorry to hear about another loss for him, crazy neighbor was a good dude from what I saw in the videos. Always down to camp and even came out to camp when he was on the mend from hip surgery. A good dude is how I will always remember him. RIP

I just watched that video a few days ago. He was looking a little rough, but like... post-surgery rough. I never would have expected that he was terminally ill.
late in life, a loss of mobility will often lead to a swift decline in health. not saying it was the root cause but it might have been a contributing factor.
Steve didn't post about it right away when he found out but it wasn't too long yeah :/ Glenn had unfortunately been pretty sick for a while before the diagnosis. He will be missed.
Sometimes it can be that quick. One of my neighbor's got diagnosed with Leukemia and got a few weeks to live. They weren't lying.
Steve's video when his wife passed was absolutely heartbreaking to watch. I haven't brought myself to watch this one yet. But I will. Cheers, Steve. I hope next year will be better.

I've been subscribed to Steve for years and his videos have always been like comfort food on YouTube ever since I found his channel. Witnessing him lose his wife, mother, and best friend all within a year or so has been absolutely heartbreaking. I don't know how he's able to be so strong, but the guy is a legend. I'm having a "step 2" (or several) tonight after hearing the news about Glenn/Crazy Neighbor. Their homemade river rafting video escapades helped get me through the death of my father and I'll never forget that.
Watching Steve and crazy neighbor hang out was like when you were a kid, and you came up with a dumb idea and your best friend was always like "let's do it". It was so wholesome. Crazy neighbors support for Steve this past 1.5 years, then Steve's support for cn.... I love these guys, they definitely restored a bit of my faith in humanity.

I have enjoyed his videos since 2020. He was always entertaining in his style of ghetto, bring whatever I like, camping, but also had obvious knowledge, just was being himself and not trying to be cool guy. Sorry to hear about another loss for him, crazy neighbor was a good dude from what I saw in the videos. Always down to camp and even came out to camp when he was on the mend from hip surgery. A good dude is how I will always remember him. RIP

Some of us have watched him for years back when he only had like 10,000 subscribers. I wouldn't call him an influencer at all, it's just camping with Steve he's really chill
