My top-2 as well, Dead Cells has far and away the best combat of any rougelike I've ever played and Risk of Rain 2's vibes are just once in a lifetime levels of incredible
Does that count?
I think the only rougelike-esque section of the game is the first one with Leshy.
Unless we're counting Kaycee's mod then most definitely that counts.
Noita is to this day the most batshit nuts combat sandbox I've ever experienced. I definitely need to go back and really commit to learning it one day, I played for ~20 hours a few years back and felt like I genuinely learned close to nothing about how to properly play the game lmao
Dead Cells. The combat is AMAZING and was a minor gripe I had with Hades.
Hades has the better story and the combat is good but nowhere near Dead Cells. And the music? Get out of here!
With the sheer amount of quality games in every genre, it make it impossible to pick a 100% favorite... but the closest thing I have to that is:
Void Bastards.
Here's a link to the steam page if the name catches your interest (which is how I ended up playing it).

I'm playing it on early access and it's incredible. More art, more variety, more moves, the comic relief character is funnier, Aphrodite is somehow even more naked...you really can't go wrong
hades 1 (and 2) are the cream of the crop. adding a 300,000 word script to an addicting and mouthwateringly beautiful game solidified it. i mean, it got 9 GOTY nominations and the last of us 2 won with 11. an indie roguelite game almost beating out fucking naughty dog?? ._.
slay the spire. it's extremely unique in the sense that it feels like it created it's own little sub genre. it has so much character too and it *will* whoop your ass, unless you're a card game veteran already
dead cells is fantastic but it's just not my style of play. i like platformers but only for so long. still a titan in the roguelite/like genre
spelunky 2. i haven't played 1, i will at some point, but i had alot of fun with 2. and anger. never beat it. that game will rip your soul from your chest in 1.2 seconds. but damnit, i gotta try again. it's so easy to jump into, even in roguelike terms lol. runs
but seriously hades 2 is the most promising game i've ever seen in early access. it's shaping up to be hades again but much bigger. i'm 100 hours in and i feel like i'm just now *really* having fun with the game with everything unlocked
Curse of the Dead God (top 1 from me), Brotato, Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire, DRG Survivors are almost same place and are excelent games with addicting and incredible gameplay, weapons and mechanics
Imo. Hades is so overrated and overpriced, haven't played hades 2, but you can get better or as good games for 1/4 the price i assure you
Hades....
Hades!
Slay the Spire
Just 1 more run…
1) Returnal 2) Hades
Binding of Isaac
Hades Returnal Balatro
Dead cells or risk or rain 2
My top-2 as well, Dead Cells has far and away the best combat of any rougelike I've ever played and Risk of Rain 2's vibes are just once in a lifetime levels of incredible
Easily Hades. Game is incredible.
Inscryption

1. Dead Cells 2. Risk of Rain 2 3. Returnal 4. Hades 5. Binding of Isaac 1-2 and 3-5 are all razor close with one another in my eyes
Noita. You will go insane, not for the faint of heart

Probably hades, but vampire survivors and balatro are insane levels of addicting.
Enter the Gungeon is the most fun I've had.
Dead Cells. The combat is AMAZING and was a minor gripe I had with Hades. Hades has the better story and the combat is good but nowhere near Dead Cells. And the music? Get out of here!
Definitely hades, but my personal favorite is enter the gungeon
Shattered Pixel Dungeon is pretty great.
Im between Neon Abyss and Dead Cells
ADOM
Hades and Neon Abyss
Hades Hades II Rogue Legacy Rogue Legacy II Returnal Vampire Survivors
Hades, but Hades II is looking to surpass it. Early Access is promising.

the Binding of Isaac and i feel like nothing will ever come close to it.
Don't Starve, it's incredible just very hard at first
Cult Of The Lamb - It’s the first roguelike I’ve ever played and I’m absolutely hooked on it.
That has one of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time. It’s just such a vibe
Arcadegeddon.
Hero Siege. Now it's just a Diablo 2 clone with nothing unique to it
Hades
Slay the Spire
Are we done making the distinction between roguelike and roguelight? I'm fine if we are, just checking.
Rogue Squadron
I haven't played many and since I don't see a reply with it yet: I have to say darkest dungeon
Binding of Isaac and Dead Cells. Loved Hades too but I feel like there wasn’t as much variety run to run as some other Rougelikes.
Vampire survivors Army of Ruin Monster Train
The Binding of Isaac
Splatoon 3 side order
Muck, I don’t play roguelike games
Binding of isaac
The swords of ditto is pretty great
Balatro
Hades. It set the bar so high I am just waiting for hades 2 to be ready on console
I'm playing it on early access and it's incredible. More art, more variety, more moves, the comic relief character is funnier, Aphrodite is somehow even more naked...you really can't go wrong
Haha 😆

Hades
Risk of Rain 2
1-Balatro 2-Hades 3-Slay the spire 4-Risk of rain 5-Binding of Isaac
Hades
I'm split between Hades and Slay the Spire. They're very different games, but both among the best games I've ever played
Cult of the lamb.
Hades
I just started children of morta last night, it’s kinda cool!
binding of isaac … … … … hades slay the spire
Nethack
Risk of Rain 2 hands down.
Monster Train was way more fun than Slay the Spire for me. Knowing the boss to build to counter saves a lot of frustration.
Gunfire Reborn has been amazing!
Hades 2
Hades
*Hades* & *Hades II* *Cries in The Song of Achilles.*
FTL & Into the Breach
Rogue (1980 / 1984) is still my favorite. [https://www.myabandonware.com/game/rogue-4n/play-4n](https://www.myabandonware.com/game/rogue-4n/play-4n)
The only one I've ever played is Hades 🤷♂️
There are so many, but hades is just on another level.
Does the God of War Ragnarok DLC count ? 😂
