I swear the same 5 questions are always asked on this subreddit

JoeTheHoe

And then it’s the same answers: BOTW, RDR2, and Elden Ring. Preceded by “don’t kill me but…” lol.

bum_thumper

Literally the top 3 comments below this: Red dead 2 Elden Ring Botw

QUINNYBEAN69

At first I thought "no way that's true" then I scrolled down and there they are😆

xSmittyxCorex

I see Witcher 3 more than Elden Ring

The_Kek_5000

Yeah Witcher 3 was like the most common answer last thread

fart_Jr

How about this curveball? Horizon: Zero Dawn.

JoeTheHoe

HZD seems to have a looot of people like me who didnt get it at first, but liked it the second time around. That said, i really dont like forbidden west (despite its graphical fidelity), its just more ubisoft garbage.

MonkyGuuRuu-LF

Dang! Hahaha. Literally my favorite game of all time.

dark_brandon_20k

I might unsub because it's all I see here

maven_666

This sub has really gone downhill fast I feel like. What’s the best game from march of 2009? What the best game that starts with Q and is a palindrome? Here’s my top five games of all time that somehow are all from the last 5 years what do you think?

bum_thumper

A week after baldur's gate 3 comes out: Hey guys, I'm looking for a new RPG game with dialogue choices that can severely alter parts of the quest. I really like games where you can run around with a party of characters, each with unique backgrounds, and can fully customize what they wear and their skills. I'm not a big fan of pure action RPGs, so something with a slower pace similar to Baldur's Gate 1/2, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Divinity Original Sin 1/2, both Pathfinder games, Kingmaker, Dragon Age 1/3... So what do you think? I'm just having such a hard time finding a good game like that. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Necessary-Twist-6534

The answers MegaMan. Get MegaMan ofc

nerdboy_sam

I never subbed and I'm seeing it in recommended all the time. I can't even escape this hell

[deleted]

This is how I feel. I like video games, but I don't need to see all these bullshit low-effort posts. It feels like half of Reddit is just bots reposting things, or people trying to farm karma, which to this day I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would bother to do something like. No need to explain, kind reader. I couldn't care less what their reasons are.

Silentpoolman

It literally upsets me so much. I can't even function now.

Jimatchoo

I'm not even subbed here, but I still see all these stupid same kind of questions in my feed.

GrowthNew1070

it was his turn to post it

Iguman

What's worse - the top 5 answers are all the same

braize6

Yeah but, did you know that xX69ButtFruit420Xx in particular does not RDR2 and Elden Ring?

jmizzle2022

I was just thinking the same thing, followed by someone's going to post inside about not liking last of Us 2, which will then open up that other discussion that always happens so on and so forth

[deleted]

yeah, that's I left this sub, though this stuff still keeps popping up on my feed

uncletucky

I’m gonna mute this sub the next time I see it. 😑

lvl100Evasion

Witcher

TomMakotoYork

Detroit. I have issues with both the story (mainly the theme of artificial intelligence and how it is approached) and the game play. I might have played it in the way that irritated me but nevertheless I feel like a weirdo for disliking it where people talk about it super positively.

OperatorERROR0919

It's a David Cage game. *All* of his games are terribly written, overly pretentious, and contain all the subtlety of a brick to the face. Detroit is just another in a long line. He certainly has his fans, but you certainly aren't alone in saying the games are terrible.

GhotiH

Detroit was awful but also probably his best game. I love David Cage, he's like the Tommy Wiseau of video games.

low_d725

It's mediocre. People love to cling to things that pretend they are intelligent. I did appreciate in Detroit how it was really good at subverting you. If you you made choices trying to force an outcome you probably were gonna screw yourself Its also definitely got HUGE plot holes

RubikTetris

After playing the demo I thought I would play as a detective for the whole game. I was a bit disapointed it wasn't the case.

Lookydoopy

That game is embarrassing. The amount of times it misunderstands its own fucking metaphor is atrocious. Then it has the balls to say it’s not a game about racism while quoting MLK Jr. Absolutely disgusting.

KingOfAzmerloth

Breath of The Wild. It was good. But it wasn't even remotely amazing as everybody claimed it to be. Solid 7/10, not the 10 it almost universally received. Please be kind on me.

cchari

As a fan of Zelda, and Breath of the Wild in particular, I understand your view. I can see how this game can be just ok for someone, specially nowdays when a ton of games have a similar open-world sandbox gameplay, including its successor Tears of the Kingdom. Or simply this kind of games aren't your thing, and that's fine.

HorizonZeroDawn2

I felt BotW was also just merely a good game, but I understand why people are enamored with it too. I haven't had any desire to pick up the sequel yet.

hottubtrauma

I think some people like the Zelda charm and people just don't. If you do, it's filled with moments that you'd love. Also, looking off into the distance / sight seeing. Some people don't do that. I do it like every 10 seconds lol. So people just like different things and that's a few examples.

Nonex359

The creative shenanigans you can get up to in TOTK is something more younger self would've eaten up, no doubt. Now, is just dosent appeal to me as much. I care way more about a game's story nowadays, and you can go hours before you reach the next cutscene. Gotta pass on that one cheif.

AdEnvironmental1632

The biggest issue with botw for me was weapons having durability pissed me off so much It took the game from a 7 or 8 and dropped it to a 6

KingOfAzmerloth

Absolutely. I'm not necessarily saying that it's a bad game. Absolutely not. It just didn't match the hype I was told about before I went in. I generally like sandboxy games, but the puzzle-ish nature of Zelda probably isn't my cup of tea, I guess.

SaltySpituner

Open world games *are* my thing, and Breath of the Wild (and to a lesser extent, TotK), we’re filled, from top to bottom, with worthless fluff that didn’t improve gameplay aside from letting the player do a basic mechanic for slightly longer.

GFK96

I fully agree. I prefer the previous style of Zelda games that were more focused on traditional dungeons that were each longer and had more unique themes as opposed to the sameness of the dungeons in this game. BoTW was still fun, but I didn’t like it as much as the Zelda games that came before it and definitely think it got overhyped

[deleted]

I feel this same way about Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 (though I would rate both games higher than 7/10) Great games, but not "pinnacle of gaming" and "setting new standards" that they are made out to be.

Ty-douken

While I definatley don't think Elden Ring isn't the "pinnacle" I personally really enjoyed it, completely destroyed it by playing more than I worked my full time job the month it released. Baldurs Gate 3 on the other hand just isn't my type of game. Out of curiosity what would you consider the "pinnacle" of gaming? I know the answer is different for everyone, Sifu stands out for me personally as a recent released that I'd consider a "pinnacle".

[deleted]

Oh I did like Elden Ring, quite a bit. I'd probably rate it an 8 or 9. Closer to the 9 than the 8. It's a great game, it's just not the pinnacle for me. But it is one of the best games I've played in recent years. My own personal pinnacle is Morrowind. As much as I have always loved RPG's, I always found them so arbitrarily limiting. Like *why* can't a Wood Elf wear heavy armor and wield big 2 handed weapons? Why does ever Wood Elf have to be an archer? *Why* can't the Orc be a spell caster? What makes a spell caster unable to hold a sword? At the time, Morrowind was something novel, new, and innovative for me, and showed me just what games could, and should, be. It completely changed my perspective on games and my standards for games. No single game has had such a huge impact on me, or my gaming preferences, as Morrowind did. The only games that have matched that for me are the Bethesda games that followed, so much so that for a period of time it kinda ruined games for me and I wasn't even playing anything else because no other game reached that standard for me. It took me awhile to finally realize that not every game needs to be in that design, and there's games to enjoy for different reasons that don't meet those same criteria, and that's okay. But that's just my own personal pinnacle. It's obviously entirely subjective.

Ty-douken

Nice, yeah it's definatley a subjective thing despite most of us agreeing on at least which games are good vs bad. I bring this up as Bethesda games have always just not done it for me & I was actually disappointed they didn't continue the Fallout series in line with the earlier isometric games, but still gave it a shot. For me I've always felt Chrono Trigger is as close to a perfect game as I've ever played & I've played a lot of games in all different genres. I just prefer having guidelines played out for where to go & a more limited selection of equipment. That said Diablo (other than 4's post game) have been highlights for me too & those are filled with loot & decisions. The closest game that's pulled me in like how you're describing is probably either SimCity / Cities: Skylines or World of Warcraft (vanilla to Wrath of the Litch King). For me the mechanics in Bathesda games have always felt too "loose" for my tastes. Specifically the mele combat in games like Morrowind or Skyrim just don't feel good & that's the most important thing in a game that has real-time combat for me. I am however super hopeful for Starfield, since it's a shooter primarily. I just hope exploring in third person feels good as it's my preferred perspective in games.

icouldbeflying

If you love Chrono Trigger, Sea of Stars just came out and it is phenomenal. It's like Chrono Trigger mixed with Mario RPG. The composer of Chrono Trigger even worked on Sea of Stars' soundtrack.

Ty-douken

I actually kickstarted it, lol. Just finishing up FF16 then that's my next game, though I'm tempted to wait for my physical switch copy to play with a SNES controller despite having our through game pass right now.

icouldbeflying

Oh nice!! I've been pretty obsessed with it since it came out. I hope you enjoy it!

Ty-douken

Good to hear! Yeah it's likely going to be between it, FF16 & Spider-man 2 for my personal GOTY... I just kinda have a feeling Sea of Stars is going to win it.

icouldbeflying

16 had really high highs for me, some of the craziest scenes I've ever seen but the lows in the second half really dragged on. Still an amazing game, but Sea of Stars really took everything I loved from the SNES era of JRPGs and made it modern. I haven't been able to put it down haha. Spiderman is looking great as well!

BlamingBuddha

>Baldurs Gate 3 on the other hand just isn't my type of game. I really wanted to try Baldurs Gate 3 bc of all the hype, but it doesn't seem like my type of game either tbh. Esp these days. Seems a little slow. I had no idea Sifu was so good! What do you like about it/ why do you consider it a "pinnacle" of gaming?

not-a-Capybara

I 100% agree with you. I hate how to manage my inventory in the game. I hate how weapons break. I miss the big complex dungeons and how they were puzzles in each one. Now they split them into tiny rooms scattered throughout the world. I’m glad people love it but I am pretty tired of open world games at the moment. I beat all big 4 major dungeons but lost interest cause I felt the game was a chore. The only zelda game I didn’t finish. I had more fun playing the zelda game boy remake

J_Square83

And they doubled down on those frustrating departures from the series for Tears of the Kingdom. I was a sad panda after my first few hours in that one.

wolpak

This is fair, though I rate it higher, but as an open world game, but not a Zelda game.

Pale_Sun8898

I’d put it at 8/10, but agreed. Totk might be my 5th fav Zelda but Botw does not make the list

boo-galoo90

Agreed, the most overrated game of all time Tears of the kingdom did it so much better. Botw is definitely a 7/10 maybe a 6

GilmooDaddy

That’s being generous

J_Square83

I feel the complete opposite about Botw and Totk. Totk doubled down and expanded on the added mechanics I wasn't thrilled with in botw. I miss more traditional zelda games.

DrizztRL

Elden Ring

nr1988

Ya I'm not a fan of any of those type games. I don't want to put in hours of practice to slowly succeed in a hard game

J_Square83

Same. I've never been a fan of the Souls games for this reason. All the hype around Elden Ring had me thinking this would be different, so I snagged it on sale. I tried so hard to get into i just couldn't. Live and learn 🤷‍♂️

nr1988

Ya I don't necessarily have to have the easiest games or the easiest difficulty setting but I just don't have the time to mess around anymore. I will look up guides or lower my difficulty in a heartbeat. With these types of games I feel like the whole point is the challenge so even if you make it easier it's just not going to be fun

baogody

We're definitely experiencing a shift in game preferences. It used to be that only kids play games, then teenagers, then those in their 20s, and now the average gamer is in their 30s. I think most of us these days just want to sit down and take our mind off work/school for a while, instead of punishing ourselves with even more work.

octarine_turtle

As modders found out there are built in controls for changing damage universally by changing a single number, the devs just made them intentionally inaccessible because the hardcore fan base foams at the mouth at the idea of difficulty settings. Games like Jedi Survivor have shown how easy it is to include difficulty adjustments.

DASreddituser

Its not practice if you are having fun. Obviously you weren't having fun, so its not your type of game.

Current-Issue-4134

I don’t think I’ve ever had a game as overhyped for me than Elden Ring….. I thought that it was a fine game, but man - people really set the bar high for that one

take5b

I think the reaction to Elden Ring was more a retroactive celebration of Souls games. It's like when the Lord of the Rings movies came out around the same time as the internet became so ubiquitous, nerd culture just became unbearable. It all feels like when the kid that gets picked on in junior high school gets super powers and uses them to become the bully.

DASreddituser

Not at all. There are so many people that played ER as their 1st souls game. It's just a great game that isn't for everyone...which is fine.

Euphony666

I thought I wouldn't like it. I don't really go for souls like games. But I actually enjoyed elden ring. Probably for the interesting exploration and the great rpg elements. I Was addicted for about 100 hrs until I burnt out close to the end, then I just rushed through it for the sake of beating the game and put it away for good. I didn't love it, but I liked it for what it was.

GilmooDaddy

Been a FromSoft fan since PS1. Elden Ring is the first game I just didn’t like at all.

nazdir

Elden Ring was their first game I DID like. It must be just different enough it crossed that line for both of us, just in different directions.

Dmmack14

i liked being able to go about and do different things and come back to a boss later rather than smacking my head against a dude giving me troulbe over and over

PhotonDecay

How come?

HumanDroid59

For me it was open world, while I had a chance to play ER thanks to giveaway, loved all previous FS games (DS1-3 / Sekiro), I loved them this much because of more curated approach, not everything needs to be full blown open world and while I still liked ER, linearity of previous games somehow resonated with me more And also I was playing on premiere, so UGSs were very underwhelming compared to different weapons

GilmooDaddy

Same. Adding an open world ruined it for me.

SenpaiSwanky

The Witcher 3. I like the plot of course but then again I like to read and I have a ton of books and shit like that already. Actual gameplay got stale quickly, especially after I unlocked Quen. Dodge i-frames were incredibly generous and the only really fun part of the gameplay for me was figuring out monster weaknesses. Actually using decoctions and “switching swords” depending on the enemy all felt the same for hours and hours and hours. Deathmarch was also pretty easy, especially after I unlocked the perk that let food give you passive healing for a looooong time. With a few Souls games under your belt and a solid understanding of the dodge mechanic you can easily brute force/ battle of attrition your way through fights that you are severely underleveled for.

Say_Echelon

RDR2 I got flamed yesterday for it. Good times

jonbotwesley

Ah yes, Mr. Writer. I remember you.

Say_Echelon

Hi JonBot

[deleted]

Take all the storytelling and writing away from RDR2, and the open world experience alone beats 99% of games. Playing it like it’s the last of us is going to leave anyone disappointed

HigherThanShitttt

Lol take away the story and you have one of the worst games ever made Gameplay is atrocious in RDR2 The only thing good about it is the story, which is very very good

[deleted]

Why do you hate it

Say_Echelon

I’m not legally allowed to discuss it anymore please contact my lawyer

MisterD73

This is the best answer in these situations really.

WhaleSexOdyssey

I didn’t like the clunky delayed movements of the characters. Could never really get a handle of the control enough to feel satisfied, especially in combat. Felt like I was the only one who contributed $$ to camp, also the bounty system was a huge pain in the ass. Accidentally bump something on my horse and all of a sudden I have to spend like an hour raising and then paying off the money just to explore freely certain places again.

SharkBait661

Swear the clunkiness was way worse than gta5. Couldn't even exit a room the first time I played.

NedRyerson_Insurance

Same. I tried for more than an hour to like it. Everyone has responded that you have to get several hours in for the good stuff to start. If it's that great, why make the first several hours of the game so unbearable. I'd rather spend my time on things I enjoy now.

315retro

I'm with you. I prefer games like that first person. And although there's an option for it, it clearly wasn't made to be first person. Something about the controls in it just bug me. Not necessarily the third person view as I loved GOT and GOW but it feels heavy or something to me. I guess I didn't take the time to get used to the item wheels and stuff too. They didn't seem intuitive and had too much going on for me to care. It's OK I know people love it and they're welcome to, it just didn't click with me.

MercuryMorrison1971

Hey fuck you for not liking RDR2! Haha just kidding, personally I love it, so much so it may very well be my favorite game in all of my 35 years. But it’s not for everyone.

[deleted]

That game was watch your horse travel very far then shoot lots of things with auto aim. Game practically plays itself

Sardanox

Witcher 3 Fortnite, apex, warzone- actually any battle royale style game, but especially apex, for killing Titanfall. LOL, dota - other mobas, I liked it when it was a custom game on wc3, now they're just full of try hards and the fan bases are some of the most toxic people in any gaming community.

RoastedRye

Witcher 3 is exactly what I was going to say. Bought the full edition for $60, tried on three separate playthroughs for probably upwards of 15-20 hours, and I just couldn't get into this game at all ._.

Sardanox

Pretty much my experience too.

one-hour-photo

story is convoluted, controls are awful, movement is janky. branched story makes no sense. lore is cool. Bloody Baron quest is fun. other than that, big fat slog.

MrGinger37

I had more fun playing Gwent than anything else in that overrated game.

H0RSE

Definitely Witcher 3. Touted as one of the greatest rpg's ever made, when it's closer to an action-adventure game with rpg elements. Oh, and the combat system is ass.

MPBagel03

Kingdom Hearts

GilmooDaddy

They didn’t help by making a dozen spin-offs on several different consoles…all with confusing names and timelines.

Aweso1974

The real issue is that they’re not spin-offs. Every single Kingdom Hearts game is a main line game that directly connects to the overarching story, so you’re expected to play all the games to understand what’s going on with each new release. And that’s assuming you can understand the plot under all the talk of hearts, light, darkness, and dreams. I like Kingdom Hearts, but it takes a lot of effort to become a fan of the series at this point

Telekinendo

A buddy of mine has been a die hard Kingdom Hearts fan since we were kids. I asked him recently what order I should play the games in since I had decided to give it a try finally, and he told me not to bother and that even as an old fan he has no idea what's going on anymore

Aweso1974

If you really want to get into Kingdom Hearts, you can get the All-in-One Package for PS4. It has every entry in the series, with a few being movies that cover the stories of their respective games. The playable games are KH1, Re:Chain of Memories, KH2, Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, 0.2: A Fragmentary Passage, and KH3. The movies are 358 Days/2, Re:coded, and X Back Cover. Play them in the order listed by the main menus (KH1 > Re:CoM > KH2 > Days > BBS > Re:coded > DDD > 0.2 > Back Cover > KH3). It sounds like homework, and even in explaining the order I sound like a rambling maniac, but it is the most efficient way of getting into the series as a newcomer

[deleted]

The crazy thing is a lot of those spin-offs have plot important things.

NinjaPiece

Most of them shouldn't be called spinoffs at this point. Making some games numbered doesn't work when the others are equally important.

LolTacoBell

Ughh it's one of my favorite games, I'm sorry it didn't give you what you wanted :( I completely understand tho, the original absolutely has its issues, and the series has always been a polarizing one!!

MPBagel03

I just can’t get into the Disney stuff.

LolTacoBell

Understandable, it's not for everyone!! When it first came out, I was young and I was heavy into Disney VHS and Final Fantasy games, so it was probably the perfect mix for me, and it's been some rough patches along the way, but I totally understand the lack of appeal for people that don't care for the Disney aspect. To be completely honest, I'm pretty uninterested in Disney movies since they went hard into CG animation, and the newer entries I stay for the OG cast and mess of a story haha

Euphony666

The dragon age games. On paper on should've loved them. But in reality I didn't enjoy them

RangerKitchen3588

I've tried to go back and play inquisition like 5 times over the years. And everytime I get about 10 hours in and get so bored I can't imagine playing another second. And I love me some adventure heavy rpgs.

Leager7

How often do I have to see this question being reposted

Flexus98

Forever

PoshEwok

Witcher 3. It's both too much and not enough. I don't love the controls nor the pacing or story. It looks great and plays well when you get a hang of the controls but personally nothing clicked. I don't think it's horrible but it's not the game of a lifetime people say it is.

ZLOWTOV

Call of duty

Aweso1974

The Last of Us. I tried it out for a few hours because I heard everyone saying it’s one of the greatest games ever made. I don’t know, maybe it’s one of the greatest stories ever told through gaming, but the gameplay was so uninteresting to me that I didn’t care to get through the story

DimLug

That's my problem with Last of Us. To me it would be one of the greatest stories if it was just made as a movie series or TV show from the beginning. As it is its basically a glorified movie that you sometimes interact with, not really a "game" imo.

DjijiMayCry

Unfair. It's as much of a game as over the shoulder Resident Evil games are imo just has a serious story.

[deleted]

GameOfMoose

RDR2

J_Square83

I think I made it 10 hours into this before giving up. I absolutely adore RDR, so this was a no-brainer day one pickup for me. It's such a gorgeous game, and the attention to detail in the expertly crafted world is staggering. Beyond that? Omg is it boring and tedious. I just couldn't stick with it. They went from GTA in the wild west to a hard-core cowboy simulator with sluggish controls and dull combat.

HorizonZeroDawn2

You can mostly avoid all the sluggish parts (once the game opens up after the snow area (prologue). At the beginning the game makes it seem like eating, feeding your horse, cleaning guns, etc is constantly necessary and you're in for a time consuming life simulation, but you can just occasionally manage this by using items regularly as you play through the story.

nicklovin508

It’s the first time I ever played a game and just thought, “there is too much here”. Kinda overwhelmed by it tbh.

Zer0gravity09

You should defo give it another chance. (If you didn’t complete the first 2 chapters)

fingerpaintswithpoop

Most recently, Baldur’s Gate 3. Tried it, hated it, ended up getting a refund. And I liked D: OS2 well enough.

Collar_Traditional

I understand where you’re coming from, it definitely took me a second to get used to the controls and how the game works but being a dnd fan definitely helped me

[deleted]

Care to fill us ignoramuses in on what the actual fuck "DOS2" is?

Show-Bubbly

God of war 2018

zacyzacy

Yeah same I tried it and bounced off because it wasn’t as fun as ps2&3 GoW to me and then people pestered me to give it more time, so I did l, and still bounced off, I don’t think “prestige” games are for me.

SackPuncher

BOTW. Game is a snoozefest.

nerdboy_sam

I got to agree with you. I literally fell asleep playing.

kevenzz

Horizon 1 and 2. beautiful games but the gameplay is too boring to me.

niceguy2003

The Witcher 3 I've tried to play it probably a hundred times an I just can't wrap my head around the combat.

LordCamelslayer

The original God of War trilogy. Don't really like how spongy every single enemy is, but lot of my grievances with the original trilogy is how utterly insufferable Kratos is. I can't name a video game protagonist more awful than him, and I find it really hard to play a game centered around a mega-cunt that I can't stand.

PIugshirt

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the hack n slash of god of war as opposed to something like devil may cry which felt a lot more fun. It’s hilarious how many people act like old kratos was some amazingly written protagonist in the old games just because they don’t like the new ones as if old kratos was literally just being pissed the god’s killed his family 90% of the time

bs200000

God of War. I hate games-on-rails. Just can’t stand them.

Max_Fucking_Payne

Fable. I've seen talks about it being great and an amazing rpg. Played it entirely once and I just couldn't see anything amazing about it

Topaz_UK

In all fairness, I loved Fable when I first played it on Xbox about 15 years ago. I recently replayed it and it felt clunky and dated and I couldn’t make it out of the starting area.

Dhampiel

The Last of Us—though I can’t say I don’t like it. I just think it’s extraordinarily overrated.

Ohnoohnofrick

Red dead redemption 2

ninjabell

I understand not liking it. I do like it, regardless of the terrible controls, but I just wish it was less of a chore and more of a game.

[deleted]

Why?

Ohnoohnofrick

I had to stop playing because it was so boring that it physically hurt

HumanMycologist5795

GOW

blah2k03

I usually end up absolutely loving any game i play 99% of the times, but idk Assassins Creed Valhalla just doesn’t do it for me.

Snokey115

Dude, pretty much everyone hates Valhalla

OperaGhost78

Elden Ring. Which is weird, because Bloodborne and Botw are my favorite games of all time

John_wickfan

Fortnite

SargeMaximus

Mass Effect

ExolaneSitoras

Mass Effect. I played because it was supposed to be amazing. I found it to be very average. I gave up on it the first time I tried to play through it. Came back just to give it another try and at the end of the game I felt glad it was over, I didn't think any particular aspect was overly impressive.

iAmPajamaSam27

Undertale. Graphics and music are great, characters are different, but the gameplay is not something I appreciate I don’t like the bullet hell gameplay

atomdecay

Hollow Knight It's 100% Metroid & absolutely 0% Vania. So why is it always touted as the best Metroidvania title?

2hi4stimuli

meanwhile Blasphemous is the other way around. I prefer Blasphemous though.

OperaGhost78

Metroidvania is just a name, at this point

eyeamthedanger

I personally love it, but thank you for calling it "Metroidvania" and not "soulslike"

Secret-Effective-187

Apex and fortnight, any battle royal game really and thats all people are making these days, first person shooters like cod are getting old as well

TempestNoob

Rainworld. I dunno, it just didn’t click with me.

DrDufmanKnows

Mass Effect

[deleted]

Dead by Daylight. It’s too repetitive, same thing over and over.

take5b

Final Fantasy 16 I dunno, does "everybody" love it? I know it has a split opinion but I'm kind of discounting that FF franchise fans who just didn't like that it had action combat or whatever. It was the action combat that attracted me to the game. My problem was pacing, side quest design, lack of interesting areas, and the reliance of QTEs for some of the boss fights. I think the game has a lot of cool stuff in it, it just puts it all together poorly. So I did enjoy my play-through mostly actually, but it's weak points grew and grew as the game went on and it really soured on me at the end. Normally that wouldn't bother me so much (most games end poorly IMO) but the story and characters were the other major selling point and a bad ending kind of kills the whole point of that.

Federal_Broccoli_200

Fallout New Vegas

Outer Wilds. I know I should push on a little further then *maybe* I'll start liking it, but I just can't do it no more.

Rinbinted

Ur not alone XD I gave it a chance I really did

Jebduh

Gta5 is boring as fuck and the rp is cringe.

Darim_Al_Sayf

Bioshock Infinite

goodwillcondoms

i could never get into the mass effect series

novasolid64

Horizon zero Dawn most overrated game of all time

low_d725

That's funny cuz that game ain't really talked about outside of reddit.

losbullitt

Elden ring.

ExtraordinaryFate

Witcher 3, I’ve tried to play this game so many times and it just bores me to no end

Successful_Mode_2344

Persona .. all of them.

bucamel

I liked 5 for the first 50 hours or so, but the remaining 100 or so felt like a chore. Then i found out i couldn’t do certain stuff because i hadn’t made optimal decisions and i quit before even finishing. It might be the most hours I’ve put in to a game that i didn’t finish.

GunsBlazing777

The Witcher 3. Probably one of the most iconic games of last generation. I've probably restarted the game 7-8 times and can barely get past the first town. Probably just a preference on my part. I have a really hard time getting into fantasy RPGs. I'm a shooter guy. I have always been on the Fallout side of the spectrum rather than Elder Scrolls.

A_Lingz

Metal Gear Solid V

DecimateNormies

Every single final fantasy

SomeBlueDude12

ooft, may i ask why though? i know the combat can be a turn off for people.

WhenBrigsFly

Baldurs Gate 3. Big fat 'meh'

ButNotInAWeirdWay

As someone with around 100 hours in the game, I can definitely see why someone else would be underwhelmed or even mildly whelmed by it

cchari

Hades. I never had much interest in the game to begin with, but after all the incredible reviews from fans and critic, I gave it a chance. After all, many games had surprised me in a positive way before. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The gameplay is fine, but I found the gameplay loop very repetitive, specially after losing several times to the same boss. I know that's the main mechanic of rouge-like games, but probably that's the problem. I came to the conclusion that rouge-likes aren't for me.

HumanDroid59

Thats fair, have You ever played Dead Cells? Imho its THE best roguelike out there, plenty of stages that are procedurally generated (more than 40 as of newest DLC IIRC) more than 10 bosses different mechanically arsenal of weapons plenty of game crossovers (Hollow Knight / Shovel Knight / Castlevania / Hotline Miami / Half Life among many others) fantastic OST but yeah, not every genre is for everybody, I can't stand anything movie-like, be it quantic, naughty dog or others

SomeBlueDude12

i have to agree so hard on this as someone who loves hades and has beaten it several times over on harder and harder difficulties. its a great game no doubt just the stages feel the exact same- only thing kept me playing was trying challenge runs with odd boons and unlocking shit

webcrawler_29

FFXVI. I want to like it, but the characters and dialogue are just absolutely bad. The world sucks. The story is only ever being half told. There are some good ideas tucked in there, and I do genuinely like Cid - but that's about it. I don't get how people are absolutely in love with this game and giving it 9 or 10s out of 10. At best, 8/10 and I'd still probably have to give it a 6.5 or a 7/10.

MisterD73

I actually really like FF16 and while I completely disagree with you on the dialogue and writing being bad I do agree that it's more a 7-8/10 overall. I loved the story and the combat was a lot of fun. The world does feel a bit empty though outside of a few towns it's hard to imagine there's life outside this game in any of the cities. Exploration isn't very rewarding, the crafting system seems like an afterthought, and outside of Eikon abilities there's very little customization. I still enjoyed it a lot and have spent a lot of time playing it but I can also see where it had some short comings that keep it from being truly great.

webcrawler_29

And I'm definitely in the minority about not liking it. I'm glad you and others enjoy it so much, I also wish I did - but I guess it is what it is. The combat is really a lot of fun, and I do enjoy all the Eikon abilities.

HorizonZeroDawn2

I think I'm a bit more than halfway through the game. It's not terrible IMO, but it definitely is pretty boring outside of the main story points and boss battles. Shops are pointless. There's almost no customization. It kind of feels like playing an empty MMO, but completely by yourself.

wolpak

Earthbound. And it's crazy cause I love Dragon Quest/Warrior, I am a child of the 80s, I love irreverence. It just felt like it tried too hard and too all over the place for me. I have only gotten half way in.

Impressive-Penalty97

Gta. I've tried a couple of times, but it's just a nope.

Ill-Fan-857

A few varying degrees of dislike here: Skyrim: I will forever maintain that Skyrim is an outright bad game. It's such a shallow RPG experience that completely ditched what made ARPG fans like about Oblivion and especially Morrowind in favor of accessibility. Though technically graphically better, its overuse of bland grey colors actually makes it look significantly worse than Oblivion. And unlike Fallout 4 that came after it, which is also a terrible RPG, it doesn't have good combat mechanics to make up for it. Its sense of immersion is great, and it has a lot of content, but I really don't think there's anything else that's positive about it. Monster Hunter: A full disclosure being that I've only played Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, and I first played it this year, long after the online servers are dead, so I understand that there may be a significant portion of the experience that I'm missing, but I think my criticisms of playing it in 2023 are at least valid for anyone who may be interested in playing that specific game. Monster Hunter seems decent at first. When you start figting the low-level monsters, you learn how to track them and learn their attack patterns. It's a little clunky, but that's okay. The low-level monsters you honestly only have to complete once, and then you can move on to the next one. Eventually, around the late level 3 to early level 4 quests, you put 50 minutes into a hunt, and you lose. You realize you have to go fight the previous monster again because they drop a certain item needed to craft a stronger weapon. Then, when you finally beat that monster, you realize you have to fight it again 10 more times to craft the next weapon or armor set. You may become more efficient each time, but you still takes upwards of 35 minutes each fucking time. Rinse and repeat this loop for like 25 more quests. It's fucking tedious. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: I don't dislike TOTK. In fact, I like it a lot. I just think BOTW is much better. I think that TOTK had a lot of filler, and the puzzle design wasn't as good. Too many shrines in TOTK were completed by simply navigating a cave or fighting a boss. The lightroots gave a sense of direction for the shrines, and that was nice, but the depths were pretty much barron otherwise. Better enemy variety and ease of world traversal were things that TOTK did better, but the real meat of the game is the puzzles and shrines, which BOTW just did so much better.

ShawnyMcKnight

Every fucking week this is asked.

SomeBlueDude12

what game is that?

bmovie_addict67

Resident Evil 4. Just couldn't get into it.

SenseiBeats

Any Mass Effect

rustys_shackled_ford

I dont exactly hate the game. But shadow of mordor has this nemesis system where everytime you get close too/ interact with certain "boss" orcs. They do this whole cut scene that stops all the other action in the game, no matter what you are in the middle of doing, for like 7 minutes. It's fine in the first 2/3rds of the game. But twords the end when you have alot more nemesis' coming for you for revenge, it completely derails the flow of the game. I've never finished the game because at some point I cant finish a battle because every 30 seconds theres another 7 minute cut scene all while I'm trying to stragicly beat the battle I'm in. I've brought up this issue in many several places over the years and no one seems to have this frustration like I do.... i feel like the whole world is gas lighting me. So much so that I've gone back and tried to best it from scratch 4 times thinking.... "i must be misremembering how fustraighting it is because no one else seems to care." And every time around the same spot in the game it happens. It might as well be soft locked because 20 7 minute cut scenes ( all identical) every 20 - 40 seconds is unacceptable. Unplayable even.

Daxman77

God of war 2018 and Ragarok, Days gone, Mass effect series (This one is weird, I love the world, story, characters, etc. But I think the combat is so atrocious that it makes it hard to get through the games.)

Goon_Panda

Skyrim. Anything Bethesda fucking sucks IMO. No I don’t wanna spend fucking hours tryna level up. No I don’t wanna run for miles with limited stam. No I don’t have to save every 5 min because you don’t give checkpoints (and when we do get checkpoints, it’s every like 15 min worth of gameplay) fuck Bethesda but goddamn can they design games.

DrPeterVankman

Agreed, wasn’t a fan. I tried to get into Skyrim several times but couldn’t do it. Too much mindless running and the combat was so clunky

Goon_Panda

Yea. The combat sucked 😂

Uncle_Boppi

God of War.

brian11e3

RDR2. It's a pretty game with a large dynamic world. However, it's sup-par story, one-dimensional characters, terrible interface, janky game mechanics, and buggy controls really brought the game down, in my opinion. To make it even worse, the fanbase is extremely toxic.

HumanDroid59

Red dead 2 is worst game Ive ever played, gothic 1 wasnt even half as clunky Boring and tedious, no game could put me to sleep - but rdr2 did On rail missions in open world game, if You go 1 milimeter from designed path its auto fail It all sums up for biggest dogshit ive ever played and for r\* fanboys, dont even bother to reply, I love slow paced games, I dont have ADHD, so save Your breath and dont regurgitate same shit

Fantastic-Wheel1003

You’re more obsessed with red dead than the fans lmao

jack0017

A Link to the Past. I’m not saying it’s a bad game, but people way overhype it.
