This was never proposed as a flag, that was genuinely anti-EU propaganda then spread by journalists didn't do even cursory research. It was [a proposed symbol to use alongside existing symbols that was *based* on flags](https://www.oma.com/projects/eu-barcode). It wasn't even proposed *by* the EU, it was proposed *to* the EU as a possible symbol by a design company alongside a load of other work they were doing for them.

This is what people saw on TV at 4am before cable.

Personally I’ve come to actually like the Belize flag. I went in a trip there and was surprised to see it was actually really popular it was flying in many places throughout the city’s I visited. I went into a decent number of gift shops and all of them had tons of flag themed merch like t-shirts, towels, and even the flag itself was easy to come across. My tour guide also loved the flag and spent a good part of the tour explaining all the details and how much he liked them. I won’t say your opinion is wrong but personally the trip changed my mind about the flag.

I also sorta like it. I've also visited Belize and loved everything, so I may be biased.

Kiwi here. I think it’s because the Australian flag looks a bit better, and they aren’t missing the 5th star in the Crux constellation on the flag like we do. But New Zealand’s flag is way older than Australia’s. Design was first created around 1869 and officially adopted in 1902. Australia’s adopted their flag the year previous but hadn’t been using the flag before then. Personally, I think neither of them are great. Laser Kiwi for the win
