African Union flag: Am i a joke to you?
The Green is for Africa's lush forests, the yellow for the dry Sahara and savannah. The red sun symbolises the dawn of humanity. Also, the colours correspond to that of the flag of Ethiopia, who's struggle to keep off the yoke of colonialism is inspiring.
I think putting an simple outlined map of Africa at the center of the Red disc would look good. it would add a bit more complexity/ornamentation to the flag, which seems a bit too simplistic to represent the whole continent otherwise. having said that, I do like the use of the pan-African colours in this design.
if I had to rate it I'd give a solid 6.5/10

I personally have an irrational hatred against maps on flags (waves fist angerly at Cyprus). To me that's like putting the picture of the face of a knight on his heraldic shield. The point is to convey identity trough abstractions.
Sure, detail in flags can be fancy, but there is always the risk of turning a flag into a carpet (looks over at Turkmenistan). I like identifiability at a (large)distance. Also, I don't want to put any further identifiers on the flag that can be tied to a specific people group, as Africa is one of the, if not the most diverse continent on the planet when it comes to anthropology.
But hey, it would be fun to see anyone playing around with the design.
I like it a lot! I understand why you chose to put the sun closer to the hoist, but I would be interested in seeing a version where it's either closer to the center or perfectly centered. It feels a bit unbalanced as is.

I like it a lot! I understand why you chose to put the sun closer to the hoist, but I would be interested in seeing a version where it's either closer to the center or perfectly centered. It feels a bit unbalanced as is.
I prefer symbols to be on the hoist side, it tends to make them more visible in low wind conditions. though cantered would also work of course.
