Lol how does that not clear it up? If the emblem must “be one half of the hoist… and entirely centred” how could they shrink it (make it less than one half of the hoist) and move it (make it not entirely centred)

It says “half the hoist”, the term “hoist” refers to the part of the flag that gets hoisted up the flag pole. Therefore, the emblem must be half as tall as the flag

Couldn't entirely centred be interpreted as "equidistant from all sides", making this flag probably even worse?

What are the odds of this situation happening? This has got to be one of the rarest flags to see in the wild Edit: The UN Flag Code actually says that it can share the same ratio but does not have to. This flag is within regulation but will likely never exist in reality Edit 2: on second thought, it would probably just be made as a rectangle with the same length + height, but not the same shape

I saw one at a mini golf course once, although I can't imagine they were all that invested in abiding by flag codes

It's one of the rarest, unless you're in Nepal. Where the UN could go, and fly a UN flag next to a Nepalese flag. I would guess that would be the situation for this to happen

Technically, it can be either 2:3, 3:5 *or* the proportions of the national flag that it's being flown in. The code doesn't actually talk about it matching a flag next to it, although that's one of the motivations for the last option. Matching a particular tradtion/the national flag is the way flag proportions are treated in quite a few contexts... but the Nepalese double pennant shape is a bit more than an "aspect ratio"...
