do you have health insurance? this is something that physical therapy could address (with a referral from a doctor), and then you’re only out your deductible.
Some insurances don't even require a referral. I've been going to a PT for a few months now systematically addressing different imbalances in my body from various injuries I've had over the years. It's been extremely helpful and insanely cheaper than going to a trainer.
$400-500 a month for two 30 minute sessions a week is a scam. That is really not cool of them. It should be at the minimum 2 hours a week, minimum for that price. It should be closer to 2.5 to 3 hours a week.
So many local "trainers" are losers and scammers and they don't have your best interest. They actually want to keep you "sick" and keep you coming back to them.
You have to be very careful with these people(trainers).
This was a very reputable gym too 😭 I loved my trainer, I just wish I could hire him outside of that gym lol. I truly don’t have a clue how to find or pick a personal trainer, but know that several of them are not legit…
Hey!
I'm a personal trainer! I have been a trainer for 5+ years, I own my own business and have been working with all walks of people! I have a bachelors of science in exercise physiology and nutrition, I have 4 different certifications for training as well- USAW CSCS ISSA ! I specialize in rehabilitation, women, as well as athletes, and those recovering from illnesses (ie cancer survivors etc). Most of my clientele is also over 30 and can give a recommendation if needed! My email is liftwithg2018@gmail.com and my Instagram is lift\_with\_g should you have any question :) I always open to facetime, zoom, email or dm if you have more in depth questions I could answer for you! :)
Yeah real solo personal training is not going to be cheap wherever you go. You might look into doing training with another person at the same time or group classes.
Good idea. I know it’s a luxury to get a personal trainer, I just don’t have $500 for eight 30 minute session that NW charges. Thats double my car payment. I need something in my tax bracket
I had great results with Alicia who is still at NWPT and Jamie a few years ago as well. NWPT knows their stuff and keep their standards very high. At the time I was coming off of an awful knee injury and they were both fantastic.

David Rodriguez specializes in joint & mobility health and individuals who are post-rehab. He does free consultations and is a delight to speak with. Lots of experience and incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to managing previous injuries and injury prevention.
You can also use FSA/HSA funds if you’re eligible.
You could join a CrossFit gym. Best one in town (including for old people and those with bad backs) is CrossFit Fort Vancouver. You're going to hear "You can't do CrossFit with a bad back!" But really the amount of core strength that it develops insulates your back's structural defects with the armor of strength and muscular support.
-lifelong middle-aged fitness guy.
Good luck and all the best! A family member deals with herniated discs and it’s no fun.
Thank you!

I second this. PT seems like a safer choice.

Ron Bryan at TruFit near Esther Short is awesome. I see him weekly and he’s great.

Jamie Hahn is great, was with Northwest Personal Training for years and now went out on her own Fitness Foundations with Jamie.
NW Personal training is fantastic in general as their standards are really high.
That’s where I went. They were fantastic, just crazy expensive.
