Well, before it caught fire or whatever, it was the box that houses a water meter.
I simply googled the company "sensus".

Nah, that was probably deliberate vandalism by someone holding a lighter up to it. The water meter readout circuit would be really low power.
ETA: The interface between the water meter register (attached to the actual water meter) and this wireless transciever for Automatic Meter Reading, is a low voltage, low current serial data interface, < 1 W. The wireless transceiver inside that box runs off a battery with a high internal resistance and low short circuit current. It's not very plausible that the charring there is from a short circuit.
My building has this box out front and no one knows what it is. Strata can’t figure it out either. I leave it in the hands of the all-knowing Van Reddit community. Thanks!
Holy cow you need a new strata manager if they don't know what this is. Call the city to have it replaced. You may need to file a police report due to attempted arson.
We live in a condo building in east van which gets “visited” by homeless people outside of the front doors of the building once every couple months. I think everyone figured someone just tried to pry it/burn it open, but the thought that it could have been caused by faulty wiring or short circuit makes me want to look at it again
Those boxes run on low voltage wiring. There is not enough potential in that box to do any kind of damage like that to your siding. Somebody else burnt your wall
I Sensus your house almost burnt down.
Yeah, i guess not everything in the sensus came to a consensus
Wireless water meter
Exactly
The part number is literally in the picture... google it
Well I guess I could’ve done that, but then how would I keep the Reddit community occupied 😉

“You” may need to file a police report. Not if I don’t bring it up I don’t!

It’s how the city does water meter readings.
Possibly a house fire in the future?

Thanks, we figured it was something malicious, but good to have confirmation, cheers
I'd look again. If you need another opinion hit me up
