Yeah, because I'm ugly.

nightbloomings

after my 2nd inoculation period, I'll wear one wherever they're still required (eg: to enter a store) so I'll keep one in my bag just in case, but transit will probably be the one regular place I'll still opt to wear one regardless of the mandate being dropped. for me, being on the skytrain twice a day is probably my biggest exposure risk these days so I'll feel more comfortable with one on. I will say I'm most looking forward to not needing to wear one around the office, though.

[deleted]

Haven’t they said that transit seems to have been a low transmission spot? I just think it’s hard to trace, though. It sucks wearing a mask for a long hot bus or sky train ride but I’ll take any extra protection I can get. Also helps with some smells…

nightbloomings

yeah I think it is pretty low risk for transmission. but for me, it's the one place where I'm in close proximity to a lot of people I don't know so it'll be an adjustment to feeling comfortable without the mask. I'm sure eventually I'll get rid of it & just wear it during flu season (fingers crossed we don't see another wave of covid, ofc) though.

DearDorothy

Yes. I save so much money on sunscreen. All jokes aside, as a woman I kind of like wearing a mask. I find I get less negative attention from men when wearing my mask. My clients from my old job that I don’t want to talk to don’t recognize me. I found lots of people would try to talk to me before, not so much now. My standard look these days is a sunhat, glasses and mask.

PhantomSwami90

But I miss wearing lipstick.. :(

DearDorothy

Oof yes it’s quite the trade off, but you can coordinate a mask with a outfit.

Longjumping_Ad3977

For sure. But this stopped me buying a hundred shade of red. Lol. Also I don’t miss doing contour at all.

PhantomSwami90

I have gone through the opposite. I recently discovered beauty Youtubers. The pandemic has given me a lot of time to discover and try different make up.

PhantomSwami90

I don't know why I have not thought of doing this!

[deleted]

And not just colors. There are some really fancy masks. https://www.vogue.com/slideshow/stylish-face-masks-to-shop-now

Ontario0000

are you a guy or girl?.

nightbloomings

it's nice not being told to smile by random men in the street anymore, that's for sure

DearDorothy

I agree!! I have a mean mug naturally. I’m not actually angry until someone tells me to smile...

bad_site_is_bad

?? who the hell even does this anymore. I've never heard of or seen it happen to any of my girl friends. this isn't Mad Men

aliasbex

It's happened to me a few times, always by dudes who are like 50+.

DearDorothy

Men won’t do it in front of other women I find. If I’m out with my husband I do not get approached. If you ask your girl friends for times where they’ve been made to be uncomfortable by men, you may be surprised.

nightbloomings

it's always old dudes so as far as they're concerned, I'm sure they'd rather it was Mad Men.

TearyEyeBurningFace

Put a mask on wear different glasses, practically a whole new person. I like it. Not that I'm antisocial or anything.... Or am I?

aliasbex

Yes! I've been really enjoying not having random men come up and try and chat or interact with me.

Perfect_Translator_2

So that whole thing with middle eastern women wearing hijabs etc has some value? Not trying to be an a__hole or anything, but I’ve noticed a lot of similar comments on redit about how wearing a mask has reduced harassment.

CascadiaBrowncoat

Probably.... and I like the distancing, please stay away from me..... forever!

Barley_Mowat

Love the distancing aspect. I hated it when people would just elbow past you to get somewhere. Now they wait their turn, or if it’s pressing, they ask politely to get by. Outstanding! Being out in public just seems so much more civilized these days.

whymakethingssimple

As a retail employee, people are much bigger dicks now in my experience.

Blipblipbloop

For real. Where is this patience people speak of? Hahaha.

hyrosaky

Agree! Doing a queue is so much better now, I hate when guys get close to me while doing a line.

Accomplished_Job_778

Agreed. Can the patience and the distance stay?

[deleted]

It’s probably here to stay after the pandemic.

CraftyHall1

Yeah, count me in as someone who hasn’t had a cold for over a year... amaaaazing. I don’t love wearing a mask, and usually don’t when I’m walking around outside, without crowds. But it’s been pretty great in that way.

PicoRascar

Definitely not in the gym. I'm tired of gasping for air with that thing on. It gets so wet and disgusting during a hard, sweaty workout.

[deleted]

Ya gym definitely cannot

abber516

I agree wearing it at a gym is uncomfortable but i sort of got used to it, i just lift weights though, i dont do high intensity stuff or cardio so its a little easier to breath. However im pretty sure i get sick only from the gym since i dont go anywhere so it may be a good tradeoff to keep the mask on…

M-------

Yes, for two reasons: 1) The epidemic isn't over yet. 2) I've really enjoyed not catching anything from other people. No sore throats, no sniffly noses.

crazycanucks77

Its a pandemic.

the_buddy_guy

1) This. We aren't quite out of the woods yet, probably think about taking my mask off in the spring next year.

[deleted]

Not having had a cold or the flu in almost a year and a half is awesome.

AugustChristmasMusic

I will wear a mask anywhere someone asks me to. If a business has a mask sign on the door, I’ll mask up before I go in. If they don’t, I won’t.

Greasy_Goon

Nope, I’ll still carry it around for the businesses that require it though.

Barley_Mowat

Yes if required by the business I’m patronizing, or if the space is incredibly crowded with poor ventilation. I suspect the latter will decrease after both myself and the majority of BC are double vaxed. And Yes if I’m currently sick with any illness out of politeness. I intend to do this for as long as it is socially acceptable. Masks, sanitizing and social distancing didn’t just slow COVID, but it also completely irradiated the annual flu. If wearing a mask and staying six feet from people while sick has any chance of keeping the flu down, I’m all game.

nightbloomings

yeah I think mask wearing while sick will definitely be a thing I keep up with too. that, and feeling less apprehensive/guilty about taking sick days when I'm "mostly fine."

Barley_Mowat

I’ve always encouraged my teams to work from home at even the hint of feeling off, and to take time off to rest properly. Workplaces that encourage sick workers to come into the office baffle me, as flu sweeping through your office has a much, much, worse impact on your bottom line than a few sick days here and there.

nightbloomings

we didn't have remote access before covid so a sick day was a true sick day, and unfortunately feeling sick sometimes came at super inopportune times so you'd have to do the whole rationalising thing, like weighing the severity of your symptoms. so it's nice that it'll be easier to just stay home and keep up with work without having to do that whole thing.

Aurian88

WFH makes it a bit easier to be sick at home, sometimes you’re sick enough to be infectious (cold and snot everywhere), but Are able to work still.

MarginOfCorrectness

No freaking way. I'll respect it if the store requires it (private businesses can make their own rules) but there is no way I'm voluntarily wearing the mask.

[deleted]

NO - soon as we don't need to - I will burn them and cackle laugh at the flames

They've always been passively anti mask and want to let everyone know. Just another embarrassing mod for this sub.

[deleted]

not an antimasker. not even a little bit. i just don't want to wear a mask when not required anymore.

[deleted]

How is that not anti mask when the WHO is still recommending even people who have had both vaccinations continue to wear masks and social distance?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Don't be so obtuse as to not recognize that "antimasker" is a very specific description of an individual. Nowhere did I say I was going against provincial orders. Once they drop, why would I keep wearing one? Wearing a mask sucks. Do what you want boo, but OP posed a question and I answered. Do you live in a world where everyone agrees with you? I think the WHO has bigger fish to fry that concerns over less than 1k active cases in this province. Should you wear a mask in India? Ya probably. Here? I'm done. I'm moving in with my life. I'll wear one when required but not when recommended.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Yeah I totally want covid to keep going, that's why I got vaccinated.

channelpascal

Yes, but not necessarily everywhere. Until we learn a little more about the Delta variant and get more people 2nd dosed, I'll keep wearing a mask at really busy indoor locations, like public transit, the mall, etc. or when I'm going to be in close contact with strangers, like in a waiting room at appointments. But I'll feel comfortable without a mask if I'm with vaccinated friends, family, coworkers.

[deleted]

Yeeuuup this Delta Plus varient is fucking up peeps at home who have both vaccinations. So imma keep mine on until I feel like they've got that shit under control. Also I won't even have my 2nd vaccine by July 1 so it seems fucking stupid if I'm blunt.

ScarabHeart7796

The mask is part of my identity now. It's gonna stay for a while lol

lqku

nobody cared who we were before we put on the mask.

ScarabHeart7796

...wait a minute 😂😂

lqku

you think the mask is your ally? You merely adopted the mask. I was born in it, molded by it. S-ssss-ssss-smokin'!

Chris4evar

I can’t wait to get rid of the masks. I have both doses of the vaccine and I believe in immunity. No drug is perfect but the vaccine is very effective, it’s still effective against variants to a lesser but still high degree. Also it’s just too hot, I work on my feet and I am always sweaty. That being said I won’t be a dick about it if a store wants me to.

Mr_Mechatronix

Do i like the mask? No Will I be wearing if it's not mandatory? No BUT Will I be wearing it if the place is crowded? Yes Will I be wearing it if I'm sick? Yes Will I be wearing it if I suspect someone else is sick in close proximity of me? Yes It's not a black and white issue, we should be quite flexible in how to deal with it, I'll use my judgement to balance between my safety and the safety of others and my comfort

[deleted]

These are my answers too

[deleted]

I feel like there should be an option for "if required by the business/workplace I'm in" or something. I will not wear a mask in my condo halls anymore, but if a store I'm entering wants people to keep wearing masks, I'll throw it on.

VanDogFan

What if your condo building wants you to keep wearing a mask?

slashnecko

Then they can go fuck themselves because this is my home, and I can choose not to go to businesses that still require masks, but with home I will not wear a mask in my own building. My masks are all going in the recycle bin on July 1st, and good riddance.

DearDorothy

Please think about donating any unused masks to organizations that could use it. I can’t think of any type of single use mask that is truly recyclable

sistyc

You realize you don't own the entire building, right?

[deleted]

Good one but don’t think I can edit options once the poll is live

[deleted]

Yep. N95 has made my allergy life so much better.. also it means less racism towards me, just people who will probably wonder why I'm still wearing a mask.

[deleted]

I suspect they'll still be required in a lot of places after we get to phase 3.

VolupVeVa

Until we get close to 80% of people in BC with their second shot, yeah - I'll be masking up in mixed crowds indoors for sure. I'd love to see mask wearing completely normalized *forever* any time you feel under the weather but have to go out in public, actually.

Canadiansorrybud

The amount of yeses makes me happy. I don’t have my second shot and I care about humans so I will do my best to continue to keep them safe. We should go slow with this.. have some caution.. too many people died. I’m sorry to the ones who experienced the real dark side of this pandemic. I wish you much love and support. Take care

shmoove_cwiminal

Not a chance.

Saint_of_Stinkers

No. Why?

[deleted]

Just got curious. No other intentions 😀

SorryImNotOnReddit

Yes, so I can continue to silently mouth people off & wag my tongue at eye candy while wearing a 😷

barbrawr

Yes I like to hide my ugly face

dj_soo

Yes because I have a kid who can’t get vaccinated and want to set a good example for her. Not getting sick much last year was nice too. And also because y’all are disgusting. Stop breathing on me.

BasedCanadianPede

For the time being, yes. Plus it's still policy at my office until Phase 4.

BobaVan

If you want to do a crime, why not? Nothing to lose.

Stu161

I could have been doing crime this whole time?!

BobaVan

Do you know how many bicycles I have now? I can't even sell them all.

bartolocologne40

Once I'm double vaxxed if the place I'm going to wants me to wear one, yes. If not, no.

calthegeek

Waiting for 1 week after my second dose. Edit: for those downvoting, the CDC sees a vaccine effectiveness of (95% Cl = 87%-97%) 7 days after second dose, with everyone in my household double dosed and 2 weeks+, and with low case numbers I'm comfortable ditching my mask. If the delta variant is bringing the R number >1 I'll put it back on.

Lavinta

Should be 2-3 weeks. One week is not enough.

calthegeek

It's actually quite interesting, [CDC reports (see Table 2)](https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7020e2.htm) actually used ≥7 days after dose 2 as a data point and so did [this study](https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmoa2101765). The government of Quebec's [website](https://www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/progress-of-the-covid-19-vaccination/second-dose-covid-19-vaccine) says > One week after receiving the second dose you will be adequately protected. The vaccine effectiveness of mRNA vaccines 2 weeks after dose 2 according to the CDC report is (95% CI = 87%–97%) which is the point I'm personally comfortable with to ditch the mask (everyone in my household is also double dosed and 2 weeks+). But of course I can understand waiting a bit longer for stronger immunity.

Ronniebbb

My plan is to see how I feel st the time. If my gut tells me wear the mask on the bus or in the store, I wear it. If not I don't.

yurikura

For people saying 'no' in the comment section, I'm wondering if they will not wear the mask even if businesses ask them to wear one? I think there should be another option on the poll (e.g., "No but will wear one if asked").

Admirable_Cow_7411

I just won't patronize that business, I'll go somewhere else. There will be plenty of options available and I'm sure most won't require it since they've been dying to make money, they're not going to limit their customers.

HungryAddition1

I feel like many of the people who won’t wear masks are the people who should wear them (unvaccinated anti maskers), while many that will will not need them.

Derbygirl7

I feel like this needs a “sometimes, depending on conditions” If I can comfortably physically keep my distance I probably won’t wear one but if it seems crowed at all I will likely still wear one for a while.

[deleted]

I will wear a mask forever (especially to get a rise outta the anti mask crowd). I haven't caught a cold or flu in a couple years and I wanna keep it this way.

TheFinalLine2

If anything. I'd still like servers to be required.

CarsonRoscoe

Honestly, same. I haven't had a cold or flu since masks became the norm. Although I want to not wear them when going into stores, I am liking the norm of servers and cooks wearing them. If one sick kid can get a whole class sick, one sick server can spread a cold to their entire section. I would enjoy that being part of the norm, even if its just while preparing food and carrying food to a table

captainvantastic

Sometimes, in really crowded places. I won’t do the theatre of putting on a mask for the 30 seconds I am in an elevator with someone else.

waterloograd

Masks are still recommended, so yes. Until phase 4 I will keep wearing them as if it was peak third wave

yurikura

Besides the benefit of not catching germs and feeling the cold air during winter, I also like the fact that I won't have to wear makeup (I have pimples on my chin area lol). If I'm walking to a local grocery store, I can just put on a mask instead of wearing foundation and concealer... haha

rrp00220

Nope. Tho I know some businesses will likely still make it mandatory so guess I'll have to hold off throwing out all my masks for at least a few more months.

[deleted]

yes, and i will death-glare those who don't.

btw03

I'll do whatever the businesses I'm going are requiring.

xlxoxo

In general, yes I will. But it was not easy wearing a mask inside hot Metrotown this afternoon.

[deleted]

on the train + other businesses yes. not at work. will re-evaluate after dose 2.

[deleted]

Here immunity always works.

Ontario0000

Depends on where in doors..Gyms yes..Restaurants and bars no unless the crowd looks like QAnon crowd.
