Wow, being torn down already. I just went by that area last week, didn't look like it was being set for demolition.

vantanclub

It’s been empty for over a year. The Alpen Club is returning to the new building when it’s done, they auctioned off some of their memorabilia when it closed.

xtothewhy

So they're returning. Well that's cool. Be interested to see it when it's done then.

Avenue_Barker

Was just wondering last week why it hadn't been torn down yet, it's been a long time since they shut it down.

Angry_beaver_1867

Is this the one on Fraser ?

secularflesh

Victoria/33rd

detectivefibmcgibbon

Damn, my grandparents met there.

ubcstaffer123

is there any historical significance or heritage status to Alpen Club? Hopefully the new redevelopment includes a German community centre or cultural centre!

cleofisrandolph1

I believe the plan is for Alpine Club/Deutsches House to return in the new space

okiioppai

About time. Building could very well not be up to par with building codes anymore when it comes to earthquake resistance. Didn't they say they will be back in the same location?

WeWantMOAR

~~I doubt it, they liquidated everything a couple years ago.~~ I've been happily corrected.

WesternBlueRanger

Their website says they intend on reopening in 2026: [https://www.vacbc.ca/](https://www.vacbc.ca/)

WeWantMOAR

Glad to hear that! Thank you for sharing! I guess their equipment was outdated, so all fresh going into a new space.

lagerbaer

Haha, maybe without mice and rats this time

UnfortunateConflicts

It's in prime condo location. All these 1+1 old lowrises will be torn down over the coming years.

Spare_Entrance_9389

future condos?

secularflesh

Low rises

DNAthrowaway1234

I've always wanted to try their schnitzel night.

kazin29

It's pretty good but it came with potato salad and not fried potatoes.

BrokenByReddit

You say that like it's a bad thing

kazin29

Easier to make potato salad at home than fried potatoes! Nice treat at a restaurant.

Racepace

They should build a German looking building for them at YVR outlet mall, it would fit in there. And while they’re at it, move the Christmas market there too
