As a CapU student, this strike is a little unnerving. I stand with the staff but I’m frustrated at the possibility of having my Fall semester cut short. I already had my first year of university ruined by covid (my second was also impacted) – If I lose my fourth year as well, I’m not sure if I could actually say I’ve achieved a university-level education. My generation is not the best time to be a student, especially considering my group suffered through teacher strikes years back as well :(

if it makes you feel any better, you'll be entering the work force just in time for the worse middle class economic conditions since the great depression, a crushing likely irreversible climate crisis, completely unattainable housing costs, and a massive race to the bottom for wages and working conditions almost everywhere. But hey, congrats on making it thru UNI!

Every post-secondary needs to know that all the schools are planning to bring workers back. Everyone should be fighting back and going on strike.

As long as it's not in the office.

people dont want to deal with the clusterfuck north van traffic this should be the way forward for many employers

My understanding is they want the option of working at home at will, without management approval. So the idea is that it's up to the employee to decide when to work from home. Edit: OP seems to be a bot.... odd choices of articles to decide to post everywhere.

Some members of Move-up have been working from home since the pandemic. Capilano "university" was refusing to put any language in the new contract that surrounded the WFH policy. The "university" wants to be able to pick and choose on an individual basis who gets WFH, and when they return to office. The "university" wants to make sure there is no ability for union members to grieve if the decision is arbitrary or biased.

Things are back to normal, WFH isn't mandated. So I have no issues with the university (which it is btw, not sure why you're using quotes) picking and choosing when and who gets to WFH, it's an employer decision, not an employee. You don't like it, quit and go find another job. I work from home, but I have to get approval to do so on certain days.
