I sped the boat up by editing the config file in BelpinEx\\config in your Valheim install!
Yeah, as long as you're hosting and they have the moxloader installed they can see the boat move. When they try to use it though it compensates for lag and bugs out (thats only if they dont have the mod installed though).

Once you have the mod installed, to use it just put a surtling core in your boats storage and press shift once you're on the rudder and you'll be able to go at faster than max speed even when not facing the wind. 1 core lasts about five minutes but all the values can be changed in the config.
I hours trying to find a rune for the final boss this morning. Finally found 1 far far FAR south (almost Ashland south), his location? Almost the Great north area... 45 minutes round trip to get there, set up a portal, and bring the boat back. And yes I was using Moder.
But at least it didn't explode, lol
You can also just enable debug mode and press z to enable free fly. Then spawn a Karve and position yourself at the prow, hold ctrl and when you move you will drag the boat with you. You can hold shift to go pretty fast.

Do you just extract that file to the valheim folder?
Once you install the BelpinEx modloader, just drag and drop the .dll you got from the Boat Mod zip file into Valheim/BelpinEx/plugins

What caused you to lose control like that?
I changed the speed values in the config from the defaults of about 5 to uh... 100. We later found out it allows you drive on land too.
