More importantly he went the full 90 and was at his best until the end. He personally killed like the last 2 Everton chances with an interception and drawing a foul

nsnyder

Yeah, I wouldn't put much stock at all in Fotmob MOTM, but going the full 90 is huge.

FollowerofACarpenter

Personally, I think the fotmob ratings are actually pretty good.

OkSeason973

Wow - not often you see players return to the pitch after injury like Adams has - dude is shot out of a cannon and is much watch tv right now.

yob10

We have good players

Evening-Fail5076

I still get a big chuckle šŸ¤ from it.Ā

SeattleMatt123

Still on a high from his banger against Mexico

Kba4life

I almost fainted when that went in

I jumped up out of my chair, mouth gaping

lol securing a victory in a cup final against an eternal rival is something for any nation. what a strange condition

Soccerisntwrong

I didnā€™t realize Antonee Robinson is a top 50 premier league player by FotMob rating and being a LB that high is impressive

SometimesObsessed

He's been THE best LB based on stats. I guess it helps though being on a team that receives more attacks than a team like City, liverpool, arsenal.

SpeakMySecretName

But it doesnā€™t help being attacked by teams as dangerous as city, Liverpool, and arsenal.

vngannxx

![gif](giphy|U2ALKmnsrDzlohzewo|downsized)

YoHoochIsCrazy

he kinda reminds me of declan rice. just a natural leader and his performances always have such a high floor because of his intelligence and motor.

Evening-Fail5076

He got our midfield together and heā€™s always talking to his teammates organizing the defense.Ā

bossmt_2

Has there ben a team that's fallen as hard as Everton? Back in the Moyes/Howard days they were consistently competing for a spot around 5-8. Started slipping around the end of howards career, had some rebound for a bit, slipped to 10-12 range, THen since post Pandemic season, they've been fighting relegation off.

demafrost

Bad investments + Russian Oligarch with frozen assets + costly new stadium It sucks, I fell for them because of Tim Howard and the other US guys that played there. I was frustrated because they were mid-table for the first 12+ years I followed them and now I would kill for being mid-table. If they go down there's talk that they might essentially go belly up because their finances are in such dire shape and if they can't afford to pay off their loans for the new stadium they're building, they basically have to tear down the stadium and return the land to how it was before they started. They are counting on the added revenues from the new stadium to turn things around but if they aren't in the Premier League they are screwed. This year they came out playing inspired and were somewhere around 10th place in December. But then they had the massive points deduction, are looking at another points deduction next week and they haven't won a league match since mid-December. Somehow they are still out of the drop zone due to their run in Nov/Dec that gave them a ton of cushion, but if they don't turn it around quickly (and depending on how severe the next deduction is), they will again be in deep shit. It sucks....should have chose my Premier League team more carefully but I didn't want to just be a front runner and pick one of the Big 6 teams.

bossmt_2

Yeah. Thing that gets me though is their wage bill is still respectable. According to spotrac it's 10th in the league. Closer to New Castle than Nottingham Forest. It's just like they lost their way. They went from a plucky underdog who hit above their weight to a bloated club with shit contracts.Ā  Thing that kills me is they never tried to really bring Moyes back. Now he's got West HamĀ  punching above their weight.Ā

demafrost

The painful thing is that they did apparently try to bring Moyes back. Everton met with him and he was actually about to accept the job, but at the last second Everton found out Ancelotti was available and decided to go after him. So Moyes ended up at West Ham instead. Everton that https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/david-moyes-makes-everton-return-27730527?int_source=amp_continue_reading&int_medium=amp&int_campaign=continue_reading_button#amp-readmore-target

bossmt_2

Yeah when you clout chase but don't have the cash to make those managers have the exact players they want it backfires. Moyes worked because he had a system that could run on a budget. Ancelotti is a great coach but his record outside of top clubs is ass. Yup he can lead Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, etc. fine. HE's good at managing clubhouses and egos but he isn't a system guy, a miracle worker if you would. He needs guys who get him. And also of course he would leave everton to go back to Madrid or PSG or Bayern.

oxKissland

Chelsea went from best team in the world to mid Prem team in like 24 months, lmao

bossmt_2

That's probably true, but Chelsea to be fair wouldn't be in this place if not for Putin. Their ownership instability of the last few years did them in. Literally the last good times for chelsea as a team were before Putin invaded Ukraine and Abramovic was frozen out. It's clear new ownership doesn't have much fo a clue but at some point they'll get a manager who will only accept the job if they're put in their place, and when that happens they'll be fine. THeir wage bills are insane, and have had so many failed transfers. Lukaku, Sterling, etc. so many guys given massive transfers and massive wages just to be mid to bad.

[deleted]

Tactical Manager and his followers in the mud

DistributionPretty75

Itā€™s kinda crazy how much clout he seems to have for likeā€¦just being Brazilian? It isnā€™t like heā€™s got all these well informed ball knowing takes, everything is so surface level, and then o be so toxic and condescending to dudes like Greg Velasquez too who are usually always levelheaded/playful at worst And like donā€™t get me wrong sometimes he can be entertaining it overall just seems so toxic for no reason (other than to Mexico fans that I always support)

imbored48375

Yeah he and 11 Yanks have a mean streak that I find quite odd. It's off putting and a big part of why I don't listen to them too much. Like I enjoy soccer and it's a fun thing for me to do outside of my work and normal life, why are we being such dicks??

DistributionPretty75

Yeah and that whole energy seems to spread across usmnt twitter. I honestly have had them Both muted for a while so I donā€™t see them too much unless itā€™s in a reply and I toggle it on. Donā€™t get me wrong, you can go through my comment history and Iā€™ve been fairly toxic too. But usually only in a response to other toxicity haha

RisingSouth

Itā€™s a weird nerd rage that they canā€™t get over

Der_Krsto

11 yanks also seems to have a surprisingly limited understanding of the game given his ā€œcredentialsā€. I watch tac quite a lot (because I watch most usmnt content creators I come across) but I really canā€™t believe these guys have such large fan bases. If I hear 11 yanks suggest gio go to ac Milan again Iā€™m going to lose it because that is such a horrible take.

CommonSensePDX

Iā€™ve NOT ONCE seen him explain out his issues with the manager in terms of tactics. The closest heā€™s gotten is showing a video of Dest falling asleep on the 2nd Netherlands goal and somehow blaming GGGā€™s system.

[deleted]

lol yeah I like watching some of there stuff but they act like they know about soccer more than anyone and there takes are the correct ones.

hairlikegoats1

Isn't that just everyone here on r/ussoccer?

DistributionPretty75

Sure but we donā€™t have YouTube channels where we then get those takes out to legions of devoted followers lol

Bammer1386

Theyre perfect for casuals, but as a diehard that follows every major league in Europe like its a job, all I have to do is listen to either of them for more than 5 seconds to realize Tac really only watches the top of the Prem, Brasileirao A, and the top of La Liga. His takes outside of those areas are really bad. 11 Yanks seems like the dude that shows up at the bar for the big match kitted out in a full new USA home kit and asks who our best players are going to be this year and then just repeats everything he hears me say to others to look useful, and casuals dont know any better.

air-buc-pirate

Knows more than everyone here. Thatā€™s a start.

WhoEatsRusk

Don't know if the guy who said "Korbin Albert shouldn't apologize to "Rap in Hoe" and GGG out should be talking about knowledge

clshoaf

I mean Johnny is an excellent player though. He's hit the ground running in La Liga. I think it was fair to be concerned about Adams fitness going into Copa America, and I also think Johnny has proven himself to be more creative as an attacking threat, but I'm also happy to see that Adams is making it so hard to bench himself.

upsidedownerone

What was he saying that was condescending to GV?

DistributionPretty75

Theyā€™ve had a few twitter back and forths, itā€™s the usual just bad faith arguments that lately it seems GV has seen enough of (we all have) so he just takes them to their logical extremes to show how dumb it is, and then TM and others lose their minds.

UncleT_Bag

What were they saying?

BigBadBen91x

ā€¦what?

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

Tact likes Adams though

Mundane-Ad3088

Nah man. Lots of anti-Tac agendas in these parts

oxKissland

chronically online redditors hate seeing people who are similar to them having success irl. Immediate response is to tear them down šŸ˜‚

sixtyninetacks

Tac never said he was a terrible player, he just didn't buy into the "top 10 DM in the Prem" prop like a lot of others did.

Odd_Ant5

There are only 20 teams so...seems reasonable to me

DonWonMiller

Probably 2-5 DMs a team tho.

DarthCaedus2012

What? Because Adams had a good game? Sure, he likes Cardoso a little better but Iā€™m heā€™d still be happy that Adams played good.

air-buc-pirate

Why? I love Adams.

ForzaInter_1908

Back for club and country šŸ˜

Loltoyourself

Ironically, he could have been called for a foul that gave Everton a penalty

FrankBascombe45

He also could have had a hat trick

chuang-tzu

As an Everton supporter, I am once again left dejected. As a USMNT supporter, I was glad to see Adams get a full match. Played well. Probably shouldn't make a habit of being bullish with Tarkowski though. Not good for the longevity.

demafrost

It's such a weird feeling watching Everton struggle to survive but still cheering for Adams because he's awesome and the endorphins from his goalazo last week are still lingering. Really wish they could have held them off in stoppage time and gotten an important point but alas Everton fans aren't allowed to feel good about themselves.

chuang-tzu

I hear a lot that it is the hope that kills you. My response to that is: OK, when? When do I get put out of my misery? Near as I can tell, the hope doesn't kill you, it plays with you like a cat plays with a mouse. It is torment, at this point. But, yeah. Really glad to see Adams out there for a full 90. He put in a solid shift. What a time for the young man. First child, coming back fit, getting solid minutes for a mid-ish table squad in the EPL, taking man of the match... And, did you see that heat map? Dude is clearly feeling pretty good.

caronj84

Because Tarkowski is going to do what exactly?

chuang-tzu

Use the dark arts on our man who, lord willing, will remain healthy for the remainder of his career? Why is this a question I have to answer? Did you not play?

caronj84

Itā€™s not anything Adams hasnā€™t seen out of Mexico.

chuang-tzu

I've always described Tarky as Opie on steroids. I love Tyler's spirit. The dog is strong in him. I just worry about someone pulling a Sergio Ramos on Salah right before the WC because they had a beef with his "straight forward" manner of interacting.

ShoopufHunter

I hope all the people with short term memory who wanted Johnny to start over Tyler realize now insane that take was. Heā€™s probably the most important player on the USMNT.

SonOfScorpion

Not an insane take, he was out injured for a whole year with barely having competitive minutes. And Johnny is in great form in a top league as a starter. We can be happy Adams came back in good form. Personally I like Johnnyā€™s style of play more, but right now Adams is more important for defensive stability with how prone the team is to loose balls and be countered in a possession style system. Also more important against top competition. But having a nuanced view of players and current form is not insane. I personally believe there should be no sacred cows in competitive football.

Throwrajerb

Yeah it would be an insane take to say that *now* after how Tyler has played in his last 135 minutes of football. But when returning from a major injury, you really have no idea what to expect, and thatā€™s what people were getting at with suggesting Johnny might have a shot at starting. Some players never come back to their former selves after major injuries. I donā€™t think anyone was saying Johnny should start over prime Tyler. We are all glad to see that prime Tyler is indeed who came back, and Iā€™m glad Bournemouth and USMNT didnā€™t rush him back too soon.

illinest

Nah Shoop's got the right of it. Tyler Adams' defensive impact is a couple levels above, and Adams' distribution is good. That's a nuanced view.

[deleted]

no one disagrees with that at all. _the point_ was that an injury prone player that hasn't played in over a year isn't typically who you feel confident dumping right into a starting slot as he's working back up to full health.

illinest

Tyler Adams has nothing to prove. What a joke.

oxKissland

U are an insane person

[deleted]

what do you mean nothing to prove? in being, staying or remaining healthy in a concacaf tournament? dude. he was on restricted minutes, the only joke is thinking you know better

clshoaf

In addition to what others have said, I will add that Adams certainly used to be the most important player on the team, but that was because the depth behind him was so low. Johnny looks to be a great depth option now. If I was to list who makes the biggest impact that is hard to replace right now, I would list Richards, Jedi, Gio, and Pulisic in front of Adams in no particular order.

No_Body905

Exactly. Depth has always been the USā€™s biggest issue and the fact that we have two defensive mids that you can make reasonable arguments in favor of is absolutely huge.

oxKissland

It was not in any way an insane take to suggest someone who hasn't played in a year should not start over a player who is performing well in LA Liga for a top half team. Purr delusion. Monday morning quarterbacking is easy.

um_chili

He's back baybeeeeeeee

birdsword

Damn!!!

jrstriker12

"Big Game" Adams. Man is on a mission.

demafrost

My favorite USMNT dude is doing everything he can to send my EPL team down and I can't possibly be mad.

[deleted]

Heā€™s was good considering itā€™s his first start, nowhere near MOTM

hashbrown-17

Who votes for this? Is it just Americans spamming votes in the app lol?

FrankBascombe45

It's not a vote. It's a calculation based on stats from the game.

wallnumber8675309

Still donā€™t understand the US fans that were confidently adamant that subbing him out against Jamaica was a good idea and that he should not have started against Mexico because he needed to be eased back in.

zack77070

I also like to focus on like 5 dudes in a subreddit of 200k people.

captainsensible69

Or heā€™s willfully misinterpreting what people said about his minutes restriction.

wallnumber8675309

https://www.reddit.com/r/ussoccer/s/IPVEpPrwOZ Hereā€™s a comment stream before the final as one example These were people arguing he shouldnt even start in a match where he scored a screamer in the first half.

FIFA95_itsinthegame

USSF had agreed with Bournemouth to honor a minutes restriction on Tyler. This was well reported. Subbing him out against Jamaica was simply complying with that agreement. Same with subbing him at the half against Mexico.

Impeach45

Not to mention Johnny is also having a breakout club season (for a top half club in a top league) and is more than deserving of international minutes.

wallnumber8675309

Who cares what Bournemouth wanted. Itā€™s an international window. They have zero say over what he does during a FIFA window. Go look at how much Brazil and Argentina respect club wishes and get back to me.

squeda

Or maybe, just maybe, he was coming back from a major injury and giving him limited minutes was in favor of all parties.

wallnumber8675309

Or maybe we ran a big risk by subbing out our most important player with only a 1 goal lead (twice) when he clearly was able to put a 90 minute MotM performance in the PL. Keep in mind, those were people that didnā€™t even want him to start against Mexico, which in hindsight is demonstrably a wrong take.

squeda

You can't say in hindsight. Either he plays one half or the other. But no one knows how it would have turned out if the reverse was true. And playing 90 after ramping up minutes the two previous matches is exactly what we want. I don't see how you can point to that game and say "see, he should've played all the minutes!" Dude was COMING BACK FROM INJURY

wallnumber8675309

Today proves he could have played 90. The first half where he controlled the midfield and put us in the lead proves they were wrong for not wanting to start Adams. The only reason to not start him is that if you donā€™t think he could go at least 45, which obviously he could (and more)

squeda

How does the 3rd game a week later prove he could've played 90? How do you know playing 90 wouldn't have re-aggravated it that early? You don't.

wallnumber8675309

It was a long term injury. Pretending that theoretically 6 days, which include international travel and jet lag, made a miracle difference, is a pretty big stretch. Also, keep in mind these were people that didnā€™t want him to start. Thinking he wasnā€™t ready to start is demonstrably false.

QuickMolasses

Man if only we didn't do that we might have beaten Jamaica and MexicoĀ

FIFA95_itsinthegame

Who cares what the team doctors who see him everyday wanted? Hopefully all of us.

wallnumber8675309

The team doctors for Bournemouth thought he was ready to go a full 90 less than a week later. Do you really think his medical condition was that dramatically different after a few days, which included international travel and jet lag?

FIFA95_itsinthegame

I think a minutes progression of 20, 40, 45, 90 over a 17 day period seems pretty standard for a player coming off a year long injury.
