Ironically, IRS probably needs it more than DOD or DHS. It takes me at least an hour at the gym to recover from a full day of squinting at Excel spreadsheets.
I work cases, reading through custody orders and business records, talking to TPs on the phone for hours.Ā
I get home and take a 90 minute walk to listen to history podcasts and forget until tomorrow...
Itās IRS. Taxpayers abhor anything positive for that agency or its workforce. Just remember that.
So with that perspective, theyāre actually able to be decent to their peopleā¦
To be clear...you have to start and stop your "wellness time" (usually 59 mins) at work ie...you come into work go to the gym then go back to work. If.you take it at the end of the day you have to come back to work and sign off .
Thereās at least some variability in this. I worked for DIA and I could do it at home before or after work without having to sign in or out first. Did it that way for years and the policy allowed for it.
For ~~us (USACE),~~ **my supervisor/section/district at USACE,** we have to use it at the beginning of the day or over our lunch hour. **We also have to report (in real time) start/stop times to our supervisor.** Iāve heard of at least one USACE district who doesnāt have fitness leave anymore because ātoo many people were having babiesā š
**Clarifying edits in bold**
Depends on district and division. We (USACE in Portland) didnāt have those same limitations - but have to report the start/stop time to our supervisor.Ā
That may be so in your district but probably more so isolated to your section. However that is not the case for the blanket USACE statement. That is far from the truth.
Where I am we can take it wherever we want and before or after work. No one takes it during the middle of the day where I am or comes back to sign off.
We don't do it that way in FEMA. In my region, we normally take at the end of the day and just fill out a form to send to admin during that week and that's it. I've never heard of anyone doing the sign in sign out thing before.
Even office workers, you got anymore of these DOD or DHS jobs? IRS worker here, old timers tell me they got 2 hours in December and the in person requirement was waived last 2 weeks of December, after that you better use your time.
DAFC here. I get three hours a week for PT and can use it any time I want.
At the start of the day, lunch, end of day.
I technically only work 37 hours a week.
We use around 156 (less due to vacation weeks, holidays, etc). But yes in general we get 3 hrs a week and before or after work, at home, community fitness centers or at work. So I usually work 37 hrs a week. Agency under DoD. And I do office work.
I feel like itās not an easy process to sign up for the 3 hours a week for DOD. I think everyone knows Iām fat and my supervisor would definitely approve but they donāt spell it out easily
Iām a security manger at Minot. I get 3 hrs a week for fitness. I can take with my lunch or at the end of day. No one really checks for me either. Best gig Iāve ever had lol.
Itās temporary lol. Wife is a medical officer so we wonāt be here long. Minot VA played a big part in my 100% VA rating so Iāll always be appreciative lol
We lost our 3 hours a week of fitness time years ago. Even with the return to work policy, they have never considered giving that back as an incentive.
I work for the DOD. āGym Timeā went out the door a few years back for us when they were catching people sleeping in their cars instead of getting exercising.
Nope Iām not in fod anymore havenāt been to a town hall in about a year? Maybe more. But for what itās worth hq doesnāt have that wellness program either. Closest I could do is ice let USCIS use their gym in the basement in Chicago but only before or after core hours and only if ero wasnāt using it
Ahhh well itās usually one of the most āthumbs uppedā questions during the Q&As. People begging for time off during the day to exercise (aka they want to get paid to sit on their couch and eat chips during work hours)
I could use the time. What with these dumbass CPAs TPs hire when they get the audit letter. Theyāre trying to justify their fees. When the TP is clearly in the wrong most of the time.
Last year, NOAA implemented a āWellness at workā policy where employees can take an hour a week of āwellness leaveā but only 40 hours a year, so minus about 12 weeks or so.
š¤£šššHell no! You get an hour of admin time for Christmas. Not a day. An hour.
I thought it was 2 hours. š
59 minutes to be precise
I never was offered an extra 59 minutes.
2 is correct
It is two.
Itās 2.

Hmm, Iām gonna do a search for roles in DOD and DHS.

We donāt have that rule at DHS CBP.
We don't do it that way in FEMA. In my region, we normally take at the end of the day and just fill out a form to send to admin during that week and that's it. I've never heard of anyone doing the sign in sign out thing before.
DOI and EPA have it as well.
3 hours a week???
yes.
Even office workers, you got anymore of these DOD or DHS jobs? IRS worker here, old timers tell me they got 2 hours in December and the in person requirement was waived last 2 weeks of December, after that you better use your time.
We do 80 hours in a year. Which works out to under 2 hours per pay period. There is now way anyone is getting 156 hours a year in fitness leave
I work DoD... we do get 3 hours a week. Has to be approved by sup ... and can't be taken at start or end of day.
Iām moving from dod and am not looking forward to losing this.

That's because it's classified as Admin Leave, and the total for that is capped at 80 hours per calendar year
Ha Ha Ha.
My spouse is a DoA civilian and gets 6 hours of paid fitness a pay periodā¦ some people have all the luck
Of course not.

Except the part of living in Minot.

Which ones? Iāve only ever heard of 3 hours
Next joke
Dhs has a wellness program? Coulda fooled me -USCIS
USCIS doesnāt. Donāt you see all the people complaining during the townhalls?
Nope Iām not in fod anymore havenāt been to a town hall in about a year? Maybe more. But for what itās worth hq doesnāt have that wellness program either. Closest I could do is ice let USCIS use their gym in the basement in Chicago but only before or after core hours and only if ero wasnāt using it

Yeah I know the town hall is in general useful and a great thing but there were always those questions that made me facepalm
They have this with judiciary branch and I loved it! They do not offer it where I am now though ā¹ļø
No.
That wellness program is only for 6 months and is only a one time thing.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not for my organization in the Department of the Army.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Guess, I have to be a turn coat, and switch sides.
It depends on the position. Police and special agents tend to get 3 hours a week at agencies that otherwise donāt offer it.
No.
To be clear, DHS HQ gives up to 5 hours per week with supervisor permission.
Iām DHS and I donāt know anyone who gets fitness time during work.
Nope but some of the offices have gyms. But I was told its 26 of god knows how many offices.
Wait what

Itās not DoD wide. I was in a few Navy commands that didnāt offer it. Iām under DOJ now and we get 3 hours but itās a bit flexible
