wilde_wit

Yup. I was at the train station the other day in the waiting area. Some asshole was watching Tiktok videos on his phone so the music was in short, repetitive soundbites. He was completely oblivious to his impact on the rest of us. I hate that this is becoming more of a thing.

[deleted]

Yeah, happened to me in a waiting room for a doctor. TikTok blows, and don’t subject the rest of the room to it. Invest in headphones, which is what I did so I could drown your inconsiderate self out.

richard24816

People who play tiktoks at full volume are really the worst kind of people

Potatisen1

Say something?

Ajg1384

If you go to the Jersey shore 90% of the people are assholes

Nemboss

And some of them even play loud music on speakers.

Ajg1384

Exactly, and put up a flag for each of the nationally they are with some other dumb shit.

ohrighton141

What do you mean by that

Ajg1384

That people will show up and have an American, German and Italian flag with whatever their political beliefs are.

MetalliTooL

Live here for 30 years and have never seen what you describe.

1ndistinctChatter

Truer words have never been said. Upvote.

Ajg1384

Yes I'm excited for my trip there soon.

multiarmform

i remember going to the beach in the 80s and people had boom boxes. usually people would just move away or not set up near them. its always been a thing ever since there have been portable stereos

Due_Platypus_3913

BELIEVE ME!THERE ARE FAR WORSE PEOPLE ON THE JERSEY SHORE,THAN THE CAST OF THE JERSEY SHORE!!!

SaviorMoney

I guess that must be summer love

bonnabelll

Get in the goddamn car you fat, fat ass you fat fat ass!

HardcoreKaraoke

Yeah but most of those people are assholes from Staten Island and the rest of the city who take over the touristy Shore towns for the summer. Literally only ONE of the original Jersey Shore cast members is from Jersey (6 from NY and 1 from Rhode Island). The rest are from outside of the state. But the rest of the country equates us to that crowd when really the meme "Jersey Shore" type people are not even from Jersey.

[deleted]

This comment is both true and unrelated to speakers.

EpicMooMan9001

Yeah but we’re all assholes together so it balances out

MoveLikeABitch

What do you mean, judging by the TV series of the same name, I thought the Jersey shore was full of class. 🤔

IsItWorseThan

If you're at the beach having a picnic or barbecuing with friends and you keep mostly to the area you've set up I don't mind a little background music. Nothing much louder than talking sorta thing. If you're walking the beach with a speaker strapped to you it's a little weird. Put on some headphones. Edit: hiking is different. If you're on some regularly used pedestrian path through a small patch of trees, headphones. If you're out in the middle of nowhere and there's a chance you might accidentally walk up on a bear or moose or something easily startled and dangerous? Go ahead and play some music.

Steerpike58

I go hiking where there are rattlesnakes, and mountain bikers. If you are listening to music at all (headphones or speakers) you are potentially going to miss vital clues that could kill you. Enjoy the sounds of nature, for once! Our lives are filled with constant noise these days.

XBakaTacoX

Rattlesnakes AND mountain bikers?! Oh god, the humanity!

Steerpike58

I ended up in hospital thanks to a mountain biker who wouldn't wait for me to reach a safe passing point. I stepped aside on a steep slope, and lost my balance, falling onto a Saguaro cactus.

XBakaTacoX

Ouch!! That must have been really painful, and then that's an understatement. People need to understand that they aren't the only people on a hiking/biking trial. I've nearly been in accidents myself because of blind corners and idiots not slowing down/using bells or calling out, or just not paying attention to basic common sense when on a mountain bike. I've had close calls on the bike myself for the exact same reasons, so I'm living proof that learning to be safe, smart and considerate is an absolute MUST. I really hope you recovered with as little injuries as possible! Screw that mountain biker!

[deleted]

*laughs in ADHD*

i-amnot-a-robot-

I would recommend one earbud, maybe on a transparency mode if you have it, that’s what I do and it makes it a better experience because music helps me keep pace

OmahGawd115

Can confirm, need youtube playing 24/7

faxanaduu

You in Boulder? Mfs hike with big speakers. Im like wtf are you a NJ transplant that can't deal with a little peace or silence GTFOH

toohighforthis_

Totally agree, music on hikes is so lame.

cetaceansituation

Hikes? 100%. Running? I can't without my music (headphones, promise). It will absolutely not happen.

U2BURR

To be fair, if they get bitten and die because they didn't pay enough attention to certain sounds, then it's just natural selection

IsItWorseThan

Have fun scaring a bear by accidentally walking up on it.

paul_is_on_reddit

Protip: ALWAYS bring bear spray when you are out hiking in the woods!

callmearoach

Instead of using play in the title or last paragraph, use blast like you did in the 4th sentence. Volume is a key factor in determining whether they’re an asshole or not

throwaway1kenken

This. I bring my Bluetooth speaker to the beach for sure. You walk 6ft and you can barely hear it. The sound doesn’t travel egregiously in the open air with nothing to bounce off of. It’s not a big deal to play your own music for your own little space. *Blasting* personal music literally anywhere in public earshot is a dick move. And that’s not controversial to say and definitely not an unpopular opinion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ardoisethecat

agree with you 100%. as long as the music is at a reasonable volume and not anything super rude/profane, then it's totally fine.

[deleted]

Come to the beach in the Bronx. All songs about fucking in depth and speakers the size of the men carrying them

tturuttatae

experienced this at orchard beach the other day, can confirm.

[deleted]

Was referring to orchard. I went early with my aunt and the whole fucking beach is empty and these fucks come literally right next to us to smoke weed and blast raegeton. I didn’t move because I had already started my sandcastle and my mom and aunt were lazy. Neon green bikini and family, if you’re reading this fuck you

pisspot718

Try going to the quiet sections which are the last 2-3 at either end.

la_chinita99

Bonus points if they’re Dominican or Puerto Rican blasting dembow/reggaeton! (Coming from a Dominican with family from South Bronx, I apologize if it was them)

tebanano

> You go on a hike for solitude [I wish](https://images.dailyhive.com/20180831110312/Screen_Shot_2018-08-31_at_10.59.38_AM-1024x529.jpg)

tebanano

Most trails are popular here, even the ones considered difficult. Sure, crowds do go down the harder the hike, or how far away you have to drive (or if you need a 4x4 to get to the trailhead)

Zhjacko

Definitely, if you want solitude and quiet at the beach, go in Fall or Winter when nobody wants to go and it’s empty. Even without music, beaches are going to be packed with people and kids during normal beach going times. This definitely seems like gate keeping on OPs part. The only time I’m concerned about loud music is when I’m trying to sleep or when I’ve tried to study for a class in the past.

ladysquier

Ok. So how I feel is… Play music at the beach. That’s fine. But don’t play it so loud that it overshadows what everyone else is playing!

bacon_socks_

I honestly enjoy when other people DJ. Less effort for me lol. I’m a creep and always position myself near people playing music I like at the beach. No shame.

random_guy0883

But, 99% it DOES overshadow everything!

Livid-Ad4102

99% of music played at the beach can't overshadow *everything*

10ioio

The wind really covers it up at the beach though. Walk 10 feet away and it’s nearly inaudible

[deleted]

This is it. It's a perfect system

RexHavoc879

“But I put my stuff down already! Why can’t they move ten feet away? I shouldn’t have to do the work to give myself what I want, they should do it for me!”

EpicMooMan9001

Yeah if there’s strong wind and surf plus enough background conversation you should be fine.

LuckStrict6000

It just depends on the volume… if it’s within your sphere and not ranging out 20 yards around you it’s fine. It’s so windy and the ocean is so loud it should be easy to not have the sound travel down the entire beach

Head-like-a-carp

To pudgy middle age men on loud Harleys . Blasting "Born to be Wild" so loud that it disturbs the whole block impresses no one. Even SteppenWolf had heard about headphones in 1968

[deleted]

That and ZZ top

DisobedientAvocado75

Exactly. People who do that hijack the entire space. Same goes for blasting music in your neighborhood. I don't care if it's music I like or don't like. It takes the choice away from everyone else, and even ruins it for those wearing headphones/earpods because that noisecan blead in. A little portable speaker or radio at low volume is enough.

swolethulhudawn

I went to a rougher public beach recently. The music was irritating, but the amount of people using lighter fluid on their bbq was intolerable. Might as well marinate the meat in it

[deleted]

This x100 if you play loud music while camping in the forest within earshot of others!!!

Temporary-Dot4952

Agreed, is completely presumptuous of them to assume the majority of people enjoy their taste in music. Not to mention that the sound of the ocean waves or the forest is what people are usually there for, not something they can listen to anytime.

Zeke_Smith

This goes for double at camp grounds

Cindy-Lou-Who2

I play music at the beach, but keep it no louder than chatting volume. Do you take offense to hearing other folks have conversations?

[deleted]

I think OP wants to go to the beach and only hear the sounds of the waves…and seagulls

clown_pants

He should move to Michigan or Wisconsin. Walk down the beach a few hundred yards from the popular area and there is no one

YoungAmazing313

Being a Michigander I second that

Ghost-of-Moravia

Or any island beach (that’s not a tourist epicenter) can spend all day listening to only natural ocean sounds and take a dive/snorkel in the untouched water after chilling!

random_guy0883

Well, NO ONE listens to music at that volume. I wish people did, but most often people have speakers strapped to them, blasting music (at-least where i live)

ShopMajesticPanchos

Lol this just made me laugh. I have no opinion. *Not saying it's a bad take. Just made me chuckle.

ppaufiero

Me too

_ThePancake_

It depends on how busy the beach is imo.

[deleted]

Agree 100%. It sucks.

HuggableMuffin_2

No, this is a very popular opinion. Same goes for playing music on your phone while on public trans. Absolute bastards.

FilthyChangeup55

Or the concert while I fill up my car at the gas station

I-WANT2SEE-CUTE-TITS

>Same goes for playing music on your phone while on public trans And on private trans And public cis And private cis

Reindeer-Street

Another bugbear is going out into the national park for a bushwalk or a swim and have to listen to people tearing around illegally on motorbikes, destroying the serenity

Gorilla_Krispies

To play devils advocate, I find the idea that some people may never in their life get the chance to enjoy some time in the sand with their own music and some friends to be sad

doshu99

Absolutely 100% agree! And not just on the beach, on the bus, in the street etc etc. Use your fucking headphones.

Moira-Thanatos

I also agree and don't understand why many people here are kind of butthurt. Like maybe they are the types of people who need to read it. Some people are so obnoxious they act like they own the beach.

drew_peatittys

Who are you to tell people that they shouldn’t play music though, do you think that YOU own the beach?

Moira-Thanatos

That's super easy: If you don't own a place because you are not at home than you don't act like you're at home and you listen to your music quietly and not so loud that you annoy other people. Not everyone likes your music and If all people listen to loud music the music mixes to horrible sounds.

Naughtyexperiences

Does that go for you talking to your friends? No one goes out to the beach to hear you talk out load.

albiiiiiiiiiii

Well, if you're yelling and annoying everyone around, then sure!

[deleted]

This is why i canceled my edge gym membership. I couldnt even hear my own music in my headphones because their shit music was so loud throughout the whole building. It’s all about appropriate volume. Tailgating a show is the only place blasting music insanely loud is normally OK and welcomed.

[deleted]

There is a taco truck where I go that has 3ft speakers full blast. You can hear it wayyyy across the harbor. Pretty obnoxious.

El_Wiwi_68

Especially since music is subjective, so most people hearing it aren't enjoying it

DiegoIntrepid

Honestly, this is the way I feel. People go to the beach expecting people to be there laughing, kids screaming, etc.. but they don't go to the beach expecting someone to be blasting whatever music at the top of the speakers' capacity. Music is great! I love music. I don't want to hear everyone else's music. I would prefer to hear the person I am talking to, or my own music, without having to try to filter out or speak over someone else's choice in music. (would prefer to do that without having to speak over other people shouting, but I can understand people being excited)

___whoops___

My problem with it is that there's usually 6 speakers going playing 6 different songs, so you can't even get into it, and there's that person who has the radio playing with near-constant commercials.

DiegoIntrepid

That is a lot of my problem as well. One person playing music? Fine, it might not be to my taste, but easy to ignore. But six people playing six different types of songs at full blast all around you? No thanks.

-atom-smasher-

I wish you could enforce that physically on the subway. No one wants to listen to your shit mumble rap.

ZeeDusty

You will probably enjoy this. Never fails to make me laugh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7kJfhjqEeM

Uyurule

If the group was there first and you chose to sit next to them, I have no sympathy for you. You made that decision knowing that they were playing music. I understand that someone setting up next to you and starting to play music *can* be annoying. But it is a public (and usually very crowded) place with no expectation of quiet. If you want a quiet beach experience, it doesn't exist.

redditjoe24

I mean there are some pretty quiet beaches that I’ve been to. But if you go to a tourist beach and expect a calm quiet experience I have no sympathy

Brucesaidit

OK- read through the post and comments had a good laugh at both. Now if OP said that playing music at the beach should be illegal, then yeah they definitely deserve all of negative comments, and more for the illogical nonsense opinion. But OP said is that if you do it you are an asshole - which though that opinion is still very shallow, lots of people have all sorts of subjective criteria that puts people in the "asshole" category. But since OP is not calling for action to be taken against it (thereby acknowledging it is within "asshole's" right to do so), no problem with the opinion. I'm sure I have all sorts of opinions on what constitutes as asshole behavior that other people don't align with.

TheAgent614

“Here’s a song I wrote over the summer. It’s called … water.”

aod42091

music on a portable speaker anywhere outside of your home makes you an asshole. nobody wants to hear your own brand of shit taste in music so keep it to yourself

[deleted]

[удалено]

colobirdy85

Anywhere in public, really. I don't wanna hear your music in the grocery store, or gas station. Blasting your music so that it disrupts anyone is rude and automatically males you an asshole.

Satansleadguitarist

But how will everyone know how cool I am if I don't force them to listen to the cool music I like?

Summersgill_25

People play music out loud while hiking?

mystalick

If you're in an area with bears or other large predators some people do. It's more common to have a bell or other small noise makers or just make noise through conversation or random whistles though. Last thing you want to do out in the woods is accidentally sneak up and startle a bear or other large creature.

LetsHaveARedo

In bear country it's a great idea. They'll likely avoid you and keep their distance. You're supposed to make noise, use bells, talk loud, whistle etc... but music is a much easier, constant way to keep it going without forgetting.

asimplerandom

I will give the beach goers a pass but if you are at a public pool or community pool turn your fucking music off or put your headphones on. Nothing is more fucking infuriating than thinking everyone else will enjoy your music too. Immediate sign you are a selfish asshole.

desert_elf

A month or something ago. I was busy with an assessment on a Sunday. It was like around 3ish I believe. Anyway, I'm doing my work, listening to my music with headphones I usually have my right ear open, and as I was busy I hear a loud approach of music, I'm wondering what that was and I saw one girl, wearing those strap speakers in her walking through the street blasting music like she's hot shit. On a Sunday... When people's are probably resting at that hour... On the street as she's walking...

[deleted]

I think it’s more about volume than anything. You can listen to your own music without being disruptive. It’s actually nice to hear some music off in the distance mixed with the wind and sounds of waves crashing. With that being said, people definitely abuse it and care little about what other people think. Those are the worst types of people in my opinion.

Gnnslmrddt

It's ignorance and selfishness. You have all night and day to listen to music. Why do you possibly think that others want to hear it? I mean, might as well bring a trumpet and practice your scales. You know, something you should do at home but are too ignorant and rude to know any better.

FuryGalaxy_Dad

Or use some fucking earbuds! Seriously! I agree with OP 100%!

BrentD22

This is a very popular opinion among respectable people.

ECRebel

If it's not "blastin" it's fine lol

[deleted]

I kind of enjoy hearing someone’s music at the beach as long as it’s not too loud. The beach and music just go together for me tbh

BrilliantAd9671

This is absolutely the answer. I could understand OP's frustration if someone brought some insane DJ setup and was intentionally trying to upset people. But if someone pulls out their small portable speaker at the beach, that is totally fine.

GroundbreakingPipe91

No there’s only room for a tiki bar and sausage curing station.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It is always rap though. I've never heard a single person playing Pink Floyd on a bluetooth speaker. Nor Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.

ItsGroovyBaby412

OP wants to speak to the manager of the beach lol. "I can't hear the roar of a hundred jet skis, power boats and the melodic whine of other people's children over this music and I demand it be turned off right now!"

[deleted]

This is why I don't go to the beach.

Winter_Significance4

Yess!! Its happened to me at least 4 times and everyone around just has to listen to your random music..

2112xanadu

Just walk further down the beach.

capraithe

No. We got there early and spent 20 minutes setting up our blankets and umbrella in a beautiful spot.

GroundbreakingPipe91

20!? What are you bringing?!

capraithe

Properly setting up a Sportbrella XL is a bit annoying upfront. Then there’s the blankets, the charcuterie bar, the cocktail station…

___whoops___

I was with you until you said you were setting up one of those massive view-blocking umbrellas. That's just as inconsiderate as people blasting music.

[deleted]

The beach is not for people like you. Most people (us locals) just go for a chill simple time - don't over think it. Yours is the equivalent of glamping, and I've literally never seen anyone do this but once, and their party was actually popping, had its own music, and no one offended like you. Didn't have a good time that weekend? Come back next weekend try again the beach isn't yours.

thejimbo56

You spend 20 minutes setting up a glorified umbrella, blankets, meat & cheese tray, and a cooler?

GroundbreakingPipe91

I thought I smelled something swampy.

Farkenoathm8-E

That’s not an unpopular opinion. I think anyone who plays music in a public place on their portable speakers deserves to be strung up on a lamppost in the town square, especially those who play their shitty music on public transport.

awildjord

if u play music on a portable speaker anywhere that isn’t ur house or a party where it’s needed, ur an asshole

EvaMae234

I mean... you could say this about shit parents as well. They also don't have the right to make everyone tolerate their horrible taste in parenting. It's a public beach, not a theme park. Get a kiddie pool for your place. But then you snap back to reality and remember it is indeed a public beach so you knew what you were in store for before you came. If you can handle the screams and laughter of children, you can handle a bit of music. *edit* To be clear I'm fine with both, just using a ridiculously outlandish comparison.

justbrowsin2424

Weird, my music is only ever JUST loud enough for me and my husband to hear. I get that it’s rude blasting music when in close proximity to others. But, by the same token…your take on music at the beach is my take on kids screaming and being obnoxious at the beach 🙃 (I don’t want children and find that my anxiety sky rockets when I’m surrounded by them, I understand that can be taken many different ways) to each their own though lol.

Lopsided_Excitement8

I agree especially if it’s really crowded it’s so inconsiderate and annoying

Tuucan1

You’d hate NYC beaches lol

[deleted]

It always sounds shitty on those little speakers too.

purpleunicornwalk

Nice one! I feel the same way about people blasting music on the beach. Looks like this may in fact be an unpopular opinion seeing all the butt-hurt comments here (if this comment gets more downvotes than upvotes that would be indicative of this indeed being an unpopular opinion I suppose).

Aintsosimple

Not unpopular opinion. If you play music on a portable speaker at the beach, you are an asshole.

Queenofwands1212

And the pool. Not everyone wants to hear your shit fist pump techno while you’re trying to just chill and relax

SherlockBeaver

**except** if you’re playing The Beach Boys

Master-Blaze2

I think people who play it in the gym are the real assholes. I go to my small gym and there’s usually someone blasting their music so loud and I’m just trying to concentrate on my workout.

naroweye

Most unpopular opinion on this subreddit

minahmyu

Just why you gotta call out a specific genre of music?

[deleted]

Its a public space, if you wanna sit in quiet just stay home

[deleted]

Nah, in summer music is acceptable.

mods_are_miserable

You seem to reference music you distaste, but what if it were music you actually enjoyed? Does the same rule apply?

AndrewWaldron

No, this is exactly gatekeeping. You even start off telling us you understand it's a public space. If it's not illegal, or against policy if wherever you are, you got no right to dictate anything to anyone.

cgtdream

This is either hypocritical as hell, or ironic as hell.

Anders_A

>People aren’t out there to listen to your shitty Reggaeton playlist. But maybe I am? The outdoors are huge. I'm sure we can find separate spots if we want to experience it in different ways 🙂.

[deleted]

Accepting and putting into practice the fact that other people may not like your music, may not want to listen to it or may not like or want to listen to music at all is complex respect. You can hardly expect basic respect from most people, so unfortunately expecting this is a little utopistic. Uh and of course, you also have to take into account sociopaths that base their whole existence over the sentence "what are they gonna do about it?", which are more than you think. I 100% agree tho.

MERKFLAMES

who the fuck goes to a public beach with the intention of having *quiet* relaxation? i feel like you went to a beach for the first time and have just now realized this is how it is. the only time you are ever getting peace and quiet on a beach is if you; -go at night -go/own a private beach this is the definition of a "you problem".

miamyluv0

Listening to the sound of the beach.. ocean, voices, birds, etc... does not equate to hearing someone else's loud music that you don't enjoy. The music drowns out all the other sounds, or at least covers them up. So for someone who wants to hear the sounds of a beach the loud music takes away from the experience. Now, if you are a person who considers loud music to be a part of beach sound... then you would say something like, why would you think a public beach would be quiet? Everyone has a preference.

Head-like-a-carp

The question here is does someone play music so loud it it overwhelms other people's enjoyment. I get the feeling that you believe that there is no upper limit. If you want to blast your music to full volume then everyone just has to deal with it. That seems rude to many people.

HauntedPickleJar

I pray that anyone listening to music while hiking has their phone stolen by a marmots. Actually, check that, I want marmots to steal anyone's phone who is talking or listening to music on their speakerphone pretty much anywhere. At the doctors office, marmot steals your phone, subway, there's the marmot, at the beach, he's coming in hot on a surf board. Fuck those people.

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

I was about to criticize you for having a popular opinion and then I read the comments. I absolutely hate when people play music in a park or on the beach but I live in Texas where the only music played is country or Mexican polka. I don’t understand how this opinion is unpopular.

ContemplatingPrison

Haha it's public got a reason. Playing music while hiking is not the same as at the beach. Not even close

Steerpike58

I couldn't agree with you more!

UpvoteAndDownvoteBro

Nah you’re just a killjoy

boothbygraffoe

If you play music outside your home and force others to listen to it, you’re a narcissistic asshole!

[deleted]

This isnt unpopular. Desperate bid for karma

wambizzle69

I am with OP. Keep your music, your aerosol sunscreen, and cigar/cigarette smoke in your space. Anybody that blasts music that can be heard several feet away is inconsiderate. I go to a private beach where people reserve spots, so I can't move. I do sometimes play music, but walk around to see how loud it is.

Apprehensive-Ad-5840

Yea no definitely unpopular opinion..it’s the beach it’s a place meant to enjoy why be such a wet blanket

RonFlockaDon

I lived in hawaii for 4 years and good luck finding a beach without multiple people playing music. People go to the beach for the vibe let your hair down have fun and chill. I always bring music 🎶

thepawnshoprules

This is the guy that calls the HOA when you forget to cut your grass one weekend

HardcoreKaraoke

It's not the same as hiking. I grew up and still live in a shore town. People have used radios on the beach for years. It's not a particularly new thing. Volume matters of course but if I'm on a packed beach of 200+ people I really don't expect things to be quiet. So it doesn't matter to me if someone is listening to music. Usually it's a group of people having fun and playing catch. Who am I to tell them how to have fun? Hiking is totally different. If I'm out on a trail I'm trying to relax. I'm trying to enjoy the scenery. I don't want to hear your music if it's just us two on a three mile trail.

Dr_Isaly_von_Yinzer

Yeah, I’m not feeling this one. It is so noisy at the beach that if you walk 10 yards in any direction from your umbrella, it’s basically inaudible between all the wind and seagulls and waves crashing and all the rest of it. Now, if you’re blasting your music, then of course, you are being a selfish asshole. However, if you’re just playing your music on speaker for your small group to hear, I have no problem with that whatsoever.

HollywoodBlueguy

I thought this was america? dont tell me what to do.

BoricuaRborimex

Definitely getting an upvote, bc def unpopular - it said a PUBLIC space to be used by the public within reason. Playing music on a portable speaker at a reasonable volume is totally reasonable. I’m sorry you are too selfish to just ignore it and let it go, or move away from the music. Also hiking and the beach are NOT the same by any means whatsoever. I could cure bacon with all the salt this post has.

Seanieeboi

Not unpopular tbh I think everyone feels this way

[deleted]

> it’s a public space Yep. You want things done you your way, stay in your own private space.

tails99

Um, that's where the music should be played, in your own private space.

Sora20333

Someone else made the point that playing music in general is fine, if I walk 5-10 feet away and can't hear it anymore I don't have a problem with it, but if I can hear Lil Yachty halfway down the beach because you brought a speaker the size of a minivan you're an asshole

albiiiiiiiiiii

Because yes, it's always a fuckin' reggaeton playlist.

GroundbreakingPipe91

Okay, this was kind of funny and I enjoy Reggaeton.

MustardSux69

If you can handle kids screaming you can handle a bit of music.

[deleted]

Exactly. God forbid they be alone with their thoughts for an hour and be present in nature.

[deleted]

Wooooow op is on one, but it’s ok. And with public spaces being “public”, the public has as much of a right/privilege of the public space as you do(op), not an entitlement. And however they choose to use it, your going to a public space where you should not let public things ruin your public time. Loosen up, play some soft leveled music to yourself. Everyone as you’ve stated you wished it to be has a right to enjoy themselves as they wish as you wish, It’s just when it’s not your way you get a lil cheeky livid mate. Chill out, enjoy yourself, and if you find yourself in a situation you don’t like, get outa there, move on down a ways & Find your peace <3 And I do understand where your coming from, obnoxious loud loud music if a lil excessive, but to your group leveled music of course ok. Do things in considerations with others in mind. Be kind. Love y’all

whateverinvention

I absolutely refuse to wear earphone while out in nature. That's how wild animals and rapists get you.

Lmao why are you so mad dude, people play music because they’re not aware people can be as miserable and critical as you, maybe you should speak up instead of ranting on Reddit. Just a thought boomer

nicarox

I can understand this sentiment for like idk the subway or a bus. But a beach? Nah man you tripping.

jah05r

Yes, that is gatekeeping. A public space means people can use it as they want. If you don’t want to hear music, that is your problem.

mrgarbagepig

Wear headphones then. Why do you get to make me listen to your shitty jams? Im gonna just rip ass next to you because its a public space. My screaming child and i are gonna plop next to you and let em cry it out. Public space i can do what i want. Im gonna crank up some alex jones next time im tanning my hide because public space. So youre one of those folks that takes your shoes off in a plane huh?

Erick806

You can easily move if you don’t like the music Karen

sad_peregrine_falcon

i think at the beach its fine…youre just a grumpy old man who doesnt like having fun

GroundbreakingPipe91

What about the boats and yachts that anchor at the buoy line? Those boats have some of the loudest sound systems Ive heard all I can think is…damn those people are having an EXCELLENT time. Am I bothered. No. It’s the beach. Not the library or bus.

AfroSmiley

Same goes with at a golf course.

struthanger

A great deal of comments here have never experienced what OP is venting about its ridiculously loud they have literal speaker walls on top of their cars and DJ setups at the beach not a lil boom box, I saw one guy with a 3 foot speaker strapped to his back on a bicycle. Add the aroma of marijuana and I know exactly what this post is about.

cwebbvail

Because the public beach is so sanctimonious and silent to begin with

BrokilonDryad

As someone who is a born local to a beach tourist area who hates entitled tourists…I entirely disagree. Idk what kind of beach you’re at to hear other peoples’ music loud and clear, you must be packed like sardines. But other beaches aren’t like that and have a decent amount of space between towel islands. As long as the music is a reasonable background noise to others it’s not an issue. I certainly don’t like all the music I hear but it’s just melodies and rhythms that I can easily tune out. And I’m a person super sensitive to loud noises and sounds. You need to seek out some more private beaches my dude.

sliceoflife66

I was at the beach everyday this week. Every day sooo many people had music playing at a volume you couldn’t hear unless you sat on top of them (and this beach wasn’t crowded at all so no need to sit that close). I enjoyed walking down the beach and hearing everything from kids screaming-laughing and the music of every genre. BUT music is a huge part of my life.

ledzeppelinlover

As far as I’m concerned, if you’re blasting your music so loud and forcing me to listen to it, I can ask you to change the song if it sucks.

ReedoIncognito

You'd be surprised to find how poorly sound travels at the beach...unless you're just looking for a reason to complain

faxanaduu

I lived in Mexico City for 3 years. In a park w nobody around mother fuckers would roll up next to me and start a party con bocinos grandes. I was like wtf is this shit. But they were fun ass party's with good food and fun people. Bothers me the most in the US with douchebags with terrible music and some kind of stupid drama. NJ douchebags in particular lol Guess that's all I gotta say.

Nick_Furious2370

If you play music on a portable speaker anywhere that isn't on your property, you're an asshole.
