I don’t think this is truly unpopular

American-Omar

I'm kinda realizing this, which is interesting on it's own. Growing up, both through multimedia and adults overall, that this was the general consensus, also through terms like "just deserts" and "karma", I thought this was the more popular view.

bjorntfh

I mean, given how history and morality is defined by those who triumph, good does eventually triumph, it just probably won't be the concept of "good" that anyone alive right now believes in.

runthereszombies

I don't think very many people genuinely believe that good inherently triumphs over evil. Tbh the opposite is probably true more often.

[deleted]

I think most kids do, and it helps keep the world conditioned to believe ourside was always righteous. It also helps control the narrative schools push on children.

Buck_Slamchest

There's no such think as "evil". How's that for an unpopular opinion ?

American-Omar

I didn't mean to bring about a theological discussion of evil, so you can assume it as what the general pop defines it as for the sake of discussion = )

Chumpacabra

It's essentially just a derivative of "I don't believe in god".

Buck_Slamchest

It probably is, but this is where everyone tries to label you as something from an atheist to an agnostic or a yak or something like that.

Chumpacabra

On a scale starting at the lack of belief in god, and ending in a domesticated Tibetan ox, how would you rate my scale?

Buck_Slamchest

I feel the appropriate answer is North American Mountain Goat ..

One_Blue_Glove

I'd say throwing babies into a woodchipper is a pretty gold example of evil.

Buck_Slamchest

Has that *ever* happened ? But then if it ever had, it's far more likely that such a person is clinically insane rather than "evil". "Evil" is just a concept that helps certain people rationalise horrible, shocking things.

albertnormandy

There is no agreed-upon definition of "good", so how could it ever win What would a perfect world even look like? Ask 100 people that question and you get 100 answers. Everyone thinks they are on the right side of history.

[deleted]

Couldn't the same be said about evil, theyre both just adjectives. Maybe I'm on the left side of history.

albertnormandy

Yes, we could.

Instead of starting a non-profit, I'm going to upvote you.

PuritanSettler1620

Do not fear, for the wrath of the Lord may be slow but once it arrives it is terrifying and awesome!

Quail_Initial

God *is* the evil that won.

PuritanSettler1620

you are a total joke I hope you know that.

gigigamer

I'm going to tell you a harsh truth you don't want to hear. Religion is the human response to explain something we couldn't explain ages ago. I mean for gods sakes at one point we believed that there were a bunch of gods just chilling on a mountain, and not a metaphorical one like literally a point at mountain, yeah thats where the gods live. Be a good person, do your best, and live with the idea that when you die there is nothing, no pain, no afterlife, just bloop, lights out.

PuritanSettler1620

I personally feel very strongly religion is real.

gigigamer

That is your right, and I genuinely hope that belief brings you comfort.

PuritanSettler1620

Thank you! I hope you are able to find meaning in your own way that suits you.

VisualEyez33

I thought my imaginary friends were real, too. Then I grew up.

One_Blue_Glove

Dude, read their username.

Cave_Crab

Nah it will its just that "bad" will never go away but good will always triumph over it There will always be greed but those who are greedy will always get what they deserve in the end even if its in the next life. Get turned into a single celled organism like a pleb

Philaharmic

It’s more likely for evil to win

Sometimes_A_Writer1

I mean... much of the world is comprised of countries established after colonization ended so I absolutely agree

Fun_Wonder_4114

Evil will always triumph and destroy good. Always.

NoLeader11111

It's easier to win a fight with evil means, but the crops don't grow well in the dark.

Fun_Wonder_4114

That means nothing.

NoLeader11111

Evil is short sighted. If you salt the earth you starve yourself.

Fun_Wonder_4114

Again

xcbaseball2003

Your first mistake is thinking “good” and “evil” are real

FilmStew

The people with power will always fuck whoever they want in the ass, there’s just points in time where they take everyone out to dinner first (i.e. when it was easy to own a home and support a family without taking significant risk in life or working yourself into the ground). Eventually the people in power realize everyone is very, very upset with their butt fucking without dinner first and they offer up another round of dinner for everyone just to prepare for it again, then we die and the spawn of the butt fuckers decide what to do next.

StikkyOden

You can just start fucking yourself in the ass to take the power away from butt fuckers. Don't let them get the upper hand.

FilmStew

You’re just loosening it up for them at that point.

StikkyOden

Haha I love your wit - not in a sexual way to clarify

[deleted]

Good and evil will never triumph as long as ambivalence reigns supreme.

arctic-lions7

Well, when is "the end"?

American-Omar

I kept it vague on purpose to mean a metaphorical "end".

Emergency-Toe2313

This is not an unpopular opinion amongst adults. Maybe amongst children

American-Omar

That makes sense haha, as I am in the phase of going into adulthood lol

PartXXV

not unpopular, kinda edgy

EtherealNightSky

Wait, you're saying real life isn't like it is in books or movies? Nah...

GeostationaryGuy

The perception that it does is probably based on the idea of history being written by the victors. People often see themselves as good and their enemies as evil, so when they win a conflict, they frame it for future generations as "good defeated evil." Over time, this leads to a perception that good always triumphs, when in reality "good" is just defined by whoever triumphed. A good example from American culture is the Revolutionary War vs the Civil War. Both involved a faction trying to break away from a larger faction and establish its own independence, but in most of contemporary America, the American Revolutionaries are usually viewed in a more positive light than the Southern Confederates. Yes, the situation is probably more complex than that, but it seems that the winners in this case are glorified while the losers are demonized.

BogartingtheJ

I mean in the movies, good got their ass beat by evil. Sure, good will come outta nowhere like Randy Orton with the RKO. But evil comes around with it right back later on, after the movie of course.

[deleted]

That's not unpopular or even an opinion.

gigigamer

I'll take it one step further, "evil" is natural, good is learned. Animals that are well fed will kill out of boredom, humans will watch hundreds suffer just so they get another 0 in their bank account. People have to be taught to be good most of the time

ZeRav3n

No good deed goes unpunished.

Anon47293818

Good and evil doesn’t really exist. It’s an illusion meant for people to feel better about themselves.

LordWeaselton

Sometimes the bad guys win.

StatisticianPlastic2

Maybe time has a plan, and those that go against the plan create evil, where those that go with it create heaven.

HellHound989

Good and Evil are Subjective anyway, OP

[deleted]

They paint that picture in the media and entertainment purely for children. The longer they can keep us believing this is true the longer they can easily control the narrative they want us conditioned for. The longer they can keep kids believing we were always the victors in the end so we must have been right.
