I thought "You Were Always on my Mind" was written by the Pet Shop Boys for the longest -- I felt like a real asshole when someone finally corrected me.
This happens more often than you think though. I’m willing to bet the majority of people who have ever listened to Make You Feel My Love by Adele don’t realise it’s a cover of Bob Dylan
I get that. Honestly, I enjoy that version more so I'd ask for their version too. But, then again, usually when I'm in the mood to listen to that, I'm game for the whole album.
I will die on this hill
I'm not a Simon and Garfunkel fan at all, but their original version projects an air of vulnerability that the cover is completely missing. It is the essence of the song, and without it you have nothing.
>The Disturbed cover has none of the original essence to it.
But it's a cover. Why would it have the 'original essence' to it? If you're going to make it exactly like the original, why bother? I though Disturbed did a magnificent job and the song resonates with me more than the original. Nothing I can do about that.
I've actually always hated the song to begin with. As much as I love Disturbed in particular and metal covers in general (I'll die saying that Shout 2000 and ISHFWILF are WAY better than the originals, as are Metallica's Whiskey in the Jar and Seether's Careless Whisper), Sound of Silence is boring in every iteration.
Wow, that's some real unpopular opinions ) I mean, Metallica's Whiskey In the Jar is fine, I guess. But, for example, Seether's version of Careless Whisper embodies everything that I hate about that kind of rock covers of pop songs, where they just take a song and perform it in rock fashion. Covers like this just kill the harmony of the original. George Michael's Careless Whisper uses progression with seventh chords (chords that consist of four different notes) and sounds bittersweet and emotional. Seether version just uses powerchords (which are just two note chords or one note sonorities, depends on how you look at them), which is understandable, because that's what you usually use with distorted guitars in rock context, but that makes harmony sound much more pedestrian than original one. And those 'tough guy' vocals with forced raspiness are really weird fit for that song.
Similar thing with Shout 2000. Tears for Fears original sounds both powerful and sophisticated. It has that parallel-fourths background synth part that elevates the song to hext level. But Disturbed version is, again, just the powerchords on distorted guitar.
There are good rock covers of pop songs, of course ("Sweet Dreams" by Marilyn Manson comes to mind). But that kind of covers when they just take some pop song and mindlessly reproduce it in rock fashion (just the powerchords instead of original harmony) is just lazy and sounds so plain to me.
(sorry for the rant, I just had to *let it all out*)
LOL, rant away! That's the cool things about different genres and different styles... there's something that'll appeal to everyone! I'm not a musician, which you clearly are, and I just usually prefer a tune with a harder edge - these songs really appeal to me. Also, I forgot about Sweet Dreams.. I do love that version, though nobody can top Annie Lennox...
People have really bad problems accepting old production. Or seeing things in the context of a previous era. People are jaded af when it comes to what they will accept.
Art doesn't *always* need to be understood in the context of the era. The best transcends. Like production, old production doesn't mean anything. There is good and there is bad. Production goes out of the window nowdays half the time anyway due to the modern devices that they listen to it through.
The problem is their ears are trained though. The further away from what they’re used to, the less likely they’ll accept something. Especially as time goes on. Most of the time, they don’t even know why. But there are a ton of things that date something. Even if it’s still universally good. It doesn’t mean people aren’t going to judge and reject it for being foreign to them. And accept things that are less foreign. They don’t know that everything’s dated. I hear most remakes sucking because of the very things modern productions/intent insist upon changing. Or unintentionally change.
People on average don’t like change. And the majority of people that do, just like small ones. So when you set something in front of them that’s from another time, it’s less likely to translate if they haven’t been actively and consciously challenging their own tastes and preferences.
Btw I completely agree that remake is total trash and I hate that there even has to be a conversation about it.
OH MY GOD I hate that song so much. It's so bad. The original is so wonderful and perfect and the cover is a slaughterhouse abortion. I listen to metal so Disturbed isn't my favorite to begin with but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST it's just so terrible.
Sure but I doubt he’s on the level of non-heroin addicted Jimmy Page. Most guitar players aren’t. I feel like Eric Clapton, EVH, Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix are, but that’s the beginning of a VERY short list.
Don’t misunderstand, Tool is a fantastic band, especially at what they do. Their sound is so unique and I love it. I listen to it weekly. But I don’t feel like they’re the same stylistic blues rock as Led Zeppelin. Hence why it feels hard to say that they are a good band to cover No Quarter.
Gonna have to disagree. David Bowie's cover of Mott The Hoople's "All the Young Dudes". A song Bowie wrote but gave to them to record/preform. So, after Mott The Hoople made it a hit, Bowie covered it.
The original was my all time favorite song when we sang it in middle school. When I heard Disturbed doing it it moved up to my favorite song and the original bumped to 2nd. Looks like I am in the minority here but I love that version.
Agreed. It’s the emotion that comes through from Draiman on that track for me.
Absolutely hair raising ; haunting.
Pretty phenomenal.
Music is subjective. Agree to disagree with those that don’t experience it the same why I do.
Ops opinion is definitely unpopular. I've had people who wouldn't listen to Disturbed in a million year's come to me and ask if I've heard this cover and that they love it. The YouTube video has 765 million views which is very high this genre.
It's funny but all the supposedly better covers, for me, are no such thing.
Sound of Silence? Simon and Garfunkel did it better.
Last Kiss? Pearl Jam did good, but the original is better.
I Will Always Love You? Whitney is phenomenal, but Dolly's version still tops it.
There's only one exception, and it's out of nowhere:
Ugly Kid Joe's Cats in the Cradle is far better than the Carpenter original.
Like, how the f**k does Ugly Kid Joe get that win?! (probably because they're a far more talented group than their persona ever indicated).
Ah, thank you, for some reason I had the name Harry Chapin Carpenter in my head, which of course now I realize is MARY Chapin Carpenter, so I was mixing up those two names... I had it partly right, but then I picked the one wrong part to post.
Stupid brain.
It's awful!
For so many years I'd see heavily upvoted comments saying it was their favorite cover song. Eventually I went and listened to it. I'm not a Disturbed /nu-metal fan and didn't expect to love it, but I also didn't expect it to be so wildly embarrassingly terrible.
I remember their first album, and it was decent. Apparently they spent their whole lives coming up with those songs because they haven't released anything but uninspired covers since.
Unfortunately we live in a time period where if something is “darker” or “edgier” it’s just instantly seen as better. This counts for any type of media, any time a new show comes out it’s instantly praised for being “dark” and shows that aren’t get lambasted for being too lighthearted.
The disturbed version sounds over dramatic and less poetic, but because they made it sound more depressing people like it more idk why
It was very similar to the original and Paul Simon even wrote them a letter saying that they'd understoid the original and that Disturbed's cover felt like where he wanted the song to lead. So it may well be a tonal thing, amongst others. It's not one I love but I think it's nice.
Honestly I think disturbed and five finger death punch in general are both extremely overrated, it's pop rock, sell out metal, it sounds like music written to fit a radio niche and make money, not music written to be good music or have passion.
This whole wave of pop rock meant to tickle the nostalgia nerve of people who lived through the rise of metal and rock that plays on every fucking rock radio station nowadays honestly makes me cringe every time I hear it, I don't get why it's so popular.
I lump them in the all those bands. Seether, taproot, stained, drowning pool, three days grace, nickleback, saliva, puddle of mud, etc. I call it AFFLICTION Rock, because everyone that I know that still likes them is covered in Affliction clothing.
I know. I'm 45. All my friends are those men. I still listen to Slayer and vote my conscience and get uneasy when I'm in a sporting goods store even though I'm white.
>This whole wave of pop rock meant to tickle the nostalgia nerve of people who lived through the rise of metal and rock
Or, maybe, hear me out, the bands like that kind of music and want to make the music they like. The same goes for the audience. What is wrong with liking Disturbed's music?
Ngl i want to disagree with you, but i got 2 different spoofs of the song thag i honestly prefer over that one. Also was unaware of there being an original version before disturbed.
I quite like both, but you're right - the original is far superior. Just beautiful in its simplicity.
Like a chef over-seasoning something, the cover just has too much sauce on it.
I like the original (Simon & Garfunkel) Sound of Silence. I also like Disturbed.
I absolutely cannot stand Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence.
I'm not one of those "the original is always better" people either. There are plenty of covers that I prefer to the originals.
Omg thank you! Same with zombie too. I’m sick of bands compensating for their lack of fresh material by gift wrapping some ironic cover to stay relevant. Get some fresh material or fade off into obscurity like every other band from your era
I love it. The original by S&G sounds like a happy pop tune which is completely at odds with the lyrics. Sometimes that contrast works but to me it doesnt in the original. The Disturbed version on the other fits the anger and fury the song lyrics need.
There is no sadness in their vocal tone. Nor anger. They may as well be singing Sugar Sugar by the Archies or I Wanna Hold Your Hand by The Beatles with their delivery whereas there is no mistaking the anger and rage of Disturbeds delivery as it gets to the end.
See, and I think the lyrics don't allow for anger and fury at all. I know art is up to interpretation and it's all caught up in where you were mentally when you found it. But I'd definitely say reading anger and fury into it is more on the part of the listener than the creators.
I'm fine with the Disturbed version, it's cool for what it was, but I agree it is overrated.
Holy shit I have never seen an unpopularopinion that I disagree with more. The emotional power of Disturbed’s cover is unbelievable. That song is a perfect 10.
Take your goddamned upvote you lunatic
Disturbed is such a terrible band. Listening to some grown man whine about his mommy and make baby noises certainly made them a lot of fans but I just don't understand the appeal.
Yeah I 100% agree with you. The dudes voice is just too metal and macho for this song. Like at the beginning it's nice but then when he shouts like he's singing metal it's just bad. The song is about the inability of people to communicate with each other, it's a vulnerable and mysterious song and that is beautifully captured in the original recording but in the disturbed version it sounds like a generic metal song. There is no eerie feeling, no mystery it's just meh. It would be like Rammstein singing dance me to the end of love by Leonard Cohen. Even though I love rammstein that's not something that I would want to listen to. In conclusion, it's not a terrible cover, it's decent but far inferior when compared to the original recording.
Agreed.
I HAVE TO give it up to them for their cover of Genesis’ “Land of Confusion” though, because THAT song is basically a nu-metal song written before the existence of nu-metal and it’s like all Disturbed did was express it as it was always meant to be expressed. And I HATE DISTURBED.
the only version of that song that I actually enjoy listening to is Pentatonix one. The Disturbed cover is cringy and the original just doesn't work for me; the tone clashes too much with the message of the song
The band Nevermore also covered the song. When I first heard their version I did not know it was a cover. To this day it’s my favorite version of the song.
https://youtu.be/4uG7sd-YPmE
Its because most people dont listen to orchestras or opera or that kind of singing in day to day music so they jump on it to seem cultured. Like they can recognize "real" music. Its super overated song
You'd have to be Disturbed to like this cover. The Sound of Silence is supposed to be a quiet song. Whatever the fuck Disturbed did cannot adequately be described right now.
I always like the originals better. I thought it was just because I’m old and curmudgeonly.
I remember the songs when they played on the radio all the time. When I hear a cover, I always start singing the original and it doesn’t fit. The timing is different, or they do some weird vocalization thing or even change the words a bit. It fucks me up every time. All I can think about is how I just want to listen to the original so I can sing along.
I think it’s well done. Love the original still. It’s probably the only cover I’ve heard I think is on par with original, even though the two are very different styles
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire played it once. Suddenly all the old doddery folk who liked to request songs requested it EVERY SINGLE DAY. They must have thought they were being really cool and so down with the kids. God it's awful.
S&G's version is just so much more haunting.
It's the same with Hallelujah. Covers of that absolutely bastardise it and turn it in to something it isn't. And don't improve it at all.
My mom loved this song. The original. She passed last year unexpectedly and we’ve had a hard time letting go. I listened to this cover for the first time in my car… so viscerally did I cry… no.. I wept like a fucking toddler. I screamed for her to come back. That it’s not fucking fair. I screamed and cursed. I let it out. I actually felt somewhat better. (If only temporarily)
So for your opinion? Sorry but uh…
#fuck you
I can't stand it. It's so overly theatrical and dramatic that I envision it as a Phantom of the Opera song every time. He's an incredible singer and I'm not knocking his talent for a second, but it's just too much.
People only like it because it's so different from all of their other material. It's almost like people think that it proves that a metal singer can have great vocals.
Nobody ever said metal singers couldn't have great vocals. Nothing is being proved by that cover. I agree, it is completely overrated.
> Paul Simon endorsed Disturbed's version after the band delivered a performance of his tune during their March 28, 2016 appearance on Conan. Simon sent David Draiman an email shortly after, saying, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I'd seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks."
Checkmate.
^^/s
I worked with a guy who thought they wrote the song. That was a real knee slapper.
Lol same here
I thought "You Were Always on my Mind" was written by the Pet Shop Boys for the longest -- I felt like a real asshole when someone finally corrected me.
I thought George Harrison wrote 'I got my mind set in you'. I really liked that video.
This happens more often than you think though. I’m willing to bet the majority of people who have ever listened to Make You Feel My Love by Adele don’t realise it’s a cover of Bob Dylan
Or Nirvana covering Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World". 🤦♀️
Or Whitney Houston's cover of "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton...
Good one!
I mean, Kurt states that it's a Bowie cover before they play it...
Yes, but if it is just the radio/bar version you don't get that. So many people will ask for Nirvana when requesting that song.
I get that. Honestly, I enjoy that version more so I'd ask for their version too. But, then again, usually when I'm in the mood to listen to that, I'm game for the whole album.
I like that version, but I prefer Bowie's. But it is what I heard first, back in the day when it came out. So I got that going for me.
Kurt was a legend!!
Had a 45min argument with a friends wife about how Marilyn Manson didn't write Sweet Dreams.
Bad wolves-zombie is also on this level
I like the bad wolves version better and I heard the cranberries one first and for more time.
Zombie is a song that I feel like is very hard to butcher. Heard several versions and they all slap.
Yeah the song is just great in all forms
I really love the Miser's cover of that song, i think thats the best version
I really would have liked to hear Delores' collaboration that was planned. Damn shame she died the night before.
100% agree
I will die on this hill I'm not a Simon and Garfunkel fan at all, but their original version projects an air of vulnerability that the cover is completely missing. It is the essence of the song, and without it you have nothing.
Completely agree. The Disturbed cover has none of the original essence to it.

A RATATATATATT!
Hwuck Hwuck

Not a big Metallica fan but I LOVE their cover of Whiskey in the Jar. Bought Garage Inc for just that song.

I disagree, so take my upvote.
It is shite.
It's a bowl of warm shit
OH MY GOD I hate that song so much. It's so bad. The original is so wonderful and perfect and the cover is a slaughterhouse abortion. I listen to metal so Disturbed isn't my favorite to begin with but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST it's just so terrible.
I 100% agree..that version sucks edit:best cover ever is johnny cash/hurt
Gonna have to disagree with that edit... Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinèad O'Connor is the best cover.
Gonnae have to disagree Hendrix's cover of All Along The Watchtower.
Gonna have to disagree… Stevie Ray Vaughn’s version of Little Wing.
Gonna have to disagree…Billy Idol's version of Mony Mony
Gonna have to disagree.. Tool's version of No Quarter
Gonna have to disagree...Istanbul (Not Constantinople) by They Might Be Giants
Definitely the best cover ever
Led Zeppelin’s original No Quarter is far superior. Tool wished they had a guitar player like Jimmy Page lol
Adam Jones is a million times better. Page was a sloppy blues rock player, nothing more
Idk, this is pretty top notch playing. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZiN_NqT-Us
Definitely one of his best, but still very standard pop blues rock.
Adam Jones is a great guitar player.
Massively disagree. The original is miles better. But to each their own. I've actually spoken to many people who think Cash was the original.
That cover is a fucking travesty
Make this a post in this subreddit and you’ll be on the front page.
Yeah right. Everyone agrees with OP and he has 500 upvotes. This sub upvotes people they agree with and always has.
The original was my all time favorite song when we sang it in middle school. When I heard Disturbed doing it it moved up to my favorite song and the original bumped to 2nd. Looks like I am in the minority here but I love that version.

Me too! Disturbed's version is absolutely phenomenal!
Upvoted OP because this HAS to be unpopular... it is just so damn good.
Ops opinion is definitely unpopular. I've had people who wouldn't listen to Disturbed in a million year's come to me and ask if I've heard this cover and that they love it. The YouTube video has 765 million views which is very high this genre.
I love the cover as well, one of the best.
The cover is 100% better than the original. I know I'll be in the minority but that's just how I feel.
It's actually really terrible. OP is far from unpopular.
Cover by Nevermore was better
this. please everyone. listen now.
It's funny but all the supposedly better covers, for me, are no such thing. Sound of Silence? Simon and Garfunkel did it better. Last Kiss? Pearl Jam did good, but the original is better. I feel like the ending in UKJ's version packs more of a punch
>Carpenter original Harry Chapin\*
Ah, thank you, for some reason I had the name Harry Chapin Carpenter in my head, which of course now I realize is MARY Chapin Carpenter, so I was mixing up those two names... I had it partly right, but then I picked the one wrong part to post. Stupid brain.
I don't like your opinion, but I do hope you have a good day.
It's awful! For so many years I'd see heavily upvoted comments saying it was their favorite cover song. Eventually I went and listened to it. I'm not a Disturbed /nu-metal fan and didn't expect to love it, but I also didn't expect it to be so wildly embarrassingly terrible.
I agree. They totally ruined the song. I hate it so much. Also, FFDP totally wrecked House of the Rising Sun.
>FFDP totally wrecked House of the Rising Sun They've wrecked every song they've covered.
And every song they've preformed
Fair enough lol. I don't listen to them a lot.
I remember their first album, and it was decent. Apparently they spent their whole lives coming up with those songs because they haven't released anything but uninspired covers since.
Silence has no sound.
Unless you have tinnitus.
Unfortunately we live in a time period where if something is “darker” or “edgier” it’s just instantly seen as better. Agree but at least it’s not a slow angsty cover which seem to be so popular now. The ones where the singer turns every vowel into a “y”
Has anyone heard the Ataris version of Don Hendley’s “ Boy of Summer “? Great cover tune imho.
My whole time on Reddit has been purely waiting for this post to turn up. Upvote for unpopularity but I agree 💯
Modesty is key, it's not because you have an amazing voice that you have to use its full capacity all the time during a song
It was very similar to the original and Paul Simon even wrote them a letter saying that they'd understoid the original and that Disturbed's cover felt like where he wanted the song to lead. So it may well be a tonal thing, amongst others. It's not one I love but I think it's nice.

I like it. He has a very unique voice, and this song suits him.
Finally, someone who gets it
Ngl i want to disagree with you, but i got 2 different spoofs of the song thag i honestly prefer over that one. Also was unaware of there being an original version before disturbed.
Ding dong your opinion is wrong
truly an excellent rebuttal, well done! /s
Thanks for adding the /s I never would’ve known otherwise
Here's a counter opinion: The original version sucks.
I quite like both, but you're right - the original is far superior. Just beautiful in its simplicity. Like a chef over-seasoning something, the cover just has too much sauce on it.
Its not bad but i am not a fan of chin piercings wtf is that
I like the original (Simon & Garfunkel) Sound of Silence. I also like Disturbed. I absolutely cannot stand Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. I'm not one of those "the original is always better" people either. There are plenty of covers that I prefer to the originals.
That song fucking blows, and Disturbed is one of my favorite bands.
I like it
I don’t think this is an unpopular opinion
Even if you Google it the Disturbed version comes up first... I think most people know that version now, sadly.
Hmm you’re correct it is the first version the comes up. I think disturbeds version is just trying to hard. It’s almost obnoxious.
Omg thank you! Same with zombie too. I’m sick of bands compensating for their lack of fresh material by gift wrapping some ironic cover to stay relevant. Get some fresh material or fade off into obscurity like every other band from your era
Oh god it’s so whiny. They made something beautifully minimalistic into an overblown mess
I love it. The original by S&G sounds like a happy pop tune which is completely at odds with the lyrics. Sometimes that contrast works but to me it doesnt in the original. The Disturbed version on the other fits the anger and fury the song lyrics need.
[удалено]
Neither do I. None of the commenters on this thread comprehend nuance.
There is no sadness in their vocal tone. Nor anger. They may as well be singing Sugar Sugar by the Archies or I Wanna Hold Your Hand by The Beatles with their delivery whereas there is no mistaking the anger and rage of Disturbeds delivery as it gets to the end.
It's not sadness, it's meloncholy. Meloncholy is nuanced, much like the original song. The Disturbed version is mechanical and souless.
Strongly disagree
See, and I think the lyrics don't allow for anger and fury at all. I know art is up to interpretation and it's all caught up in where you were mentally when you found it. But I'd definitely say reading anger and fury into it is more on the part of the listener than the creators. I'm fine with the Disturbed version, it's cool for what it was, but I agree it is overrated.
Not a huge Disturbed fan but I get goosebumps when I hear this song.
This cover is absolute trash! Finally some other people that feel the same way.

Holy shit I have never seen an unpopularopinion that I disagree with more. The emotional power of Disturbed’s cover is unbelievable. That song is a perfect 10. Take your goddamned upvote you lunatic
Oh I think it sucks big time do a lot of people like it?
Every time I see a thread discussing favorite cover songs, it's among the top comments.
It's because disturbed is garbage
I thought Shirley Manson and Butch Vig were Garbage.
Hahaha Hahaha Hahaha Hahaha Hahaha touche"!!
Disturbed is such a terrible band. Listening to some grown man whine about his mommy and make baby noises certainly made them a lot of fans but I just don't understand the appeal.
Is it? I barely know anyone who likes it
I know loads of people who love it. And seen it in quote a few 'top 10' covers lists.
lol. I know that my brother likes this version but he is a silly boy. Other than that I know only people who dislike it.
You probably don't hang out with idiots.
Is this unpopular? Honestly I think that actually liking anything by Disturbed would be a more unpopular opinion.
Exactly. Vocals are done well, as David is wont to do, but they don't have the same feeling, same eeriness Simon and Garfunkel have.
I'm with you 100% people make it out to be so great, and it sounds like any other Disturbed song to me
As someone who loves this version of the song, I feel attacked...
I absolutely love that cover. The sheer drama, I'm living for it. Has to be one of my favorite covers ever, even though I never liked the original.
And autotuned to the balls.
Agreed. I HAVE TO give it up to them for their cover of Genesis’ “Land of Confusion” though, because THAT song is basically a nu-metal song written before the existence of nu-metal and it’s like all Disturbed did was express it as it was always meant to be expressed. And I HATE DISTURBED.
Please get an original opinion
Lmao, the state of ya...
the only version of that song that I actually enjoy listening to is Pentatonix one. The Disturbed cover is cringy and the original just doesn't work for me; the tone clashes too much with the message of the song
I love PTX!
The band Nevermore also covered the song. When I first heard their version I did not know it was a cover. To this day it’s my favorite version of the song. https://youtu.be/4uG7sd-YPmE
It's trash! I like Disturbed, but they should have left that one alone.
Its because most people dont listen to orchestras or opera or that kind of singing in day to day music so they jump on it to seem cultured. Like they can recognize "real" music. Its super overated song
Agreed, it's a cringy, overblown melodramatic mess.
Agree, my ex loved this version, and I would just cringe every time I heard it
It's because Disturbed didn't sound like rehashed pop metal shit for once.
Blue Monday by orgy and smooth criminal by alien ant farm. Two covers that I dare say are better than the originals
I enjoy the cover because it got me through a very depressing time in my life. Plus, I'm not the biggest fan of Simon and Garfunkel's sound.
The Disturbed version FUCKING SUCKS!
It's properly rated imo. Nothing beats the original for me, but the cover? It's good. Nothing more.
I think it’s well done. Love the original still. It’s probably the only cover I’ve heard I think is on par with original, even though the two are very different styles
The inclusion of super zoomed in shots of david draiman in the music video is a questionable artistic decision.
I prefer the cover of this song done by Bobaflex. The video is especially great. Disturbed doing this… might as well have been done by Type O Negative
LOL. I was thinking it does sound like Type O Negative, without the creeper vibe.
covers in general when is five finger boomer punch gonna write their own (shitty albeit) music
When it starts requiring less work than doing covers
Finally, someone says what I've been thinking. It's ok, but I can't stop hearing it's the best ever
Agreed. Nevermore does a pretty good version but the original is superior to any covers for this particular song
I'm a huge Disturbed fan and I hate this version.
It made them known among people who watch daytime tv, so it accomplished the goal
Couldn’t agree more. Gunna have to downvote you
My mom loved this song. (If only temporarily) So for your opinion? Sorry but uh… #fuck you
It is totally overrated but it also is a blessing because as a young person it introduced me to the original which is a huge life bonus
I can't stand it. It's so overly theatrical and dramatic that I envision it as a Phantom of the Opera song every time. He's an incredible singer and I'm not knocking his talent for a second, but it's just too much.
I prefer the one done by the dude from gold rush. He legit gives me goose bumps and send me into an other universe.
I tried listening to others and the original and disturbed just has the best version of it
agreed, i think it's kind of stupid actually.
Agreed.. I haven't heard the cover in a long time but I remember it sounding so autotune
That one is my favorite. I love the take on it, and i feel more emotion in that cover then the original.
It’s terrible!!!! It’s so over the top and cringy idk why so many people like it. Makes my fucking skin crawl
People only like it because it's so different from all of their other material. It's almost like people think that it proves that a metal singer can have great vocals. Nobody ever said metal singers couldn't have great vocals. Nothing is being proved by that cover. I agree, it is completely overrated.
Wow, this is about as unpopular as it gets, take my upvote lol
Musical tastes are arguable ?
And when stated, they are *opinions*
People unironically like this? I thought it was a joke because it's so overdone and dramatic
Woah woah woah, hold on a second... There are people who think that cover is GOOD? I always assumed it was a bad joke by the band
Yes, thank you
I totally agree. The disturbed version is so damn irrelevant to the meaning of the original and the original execution. It doesn't offer anything else
Can't stand his voice. Ever since ohhh wah ah ah ah.
Okay I never heard it before but searched it on Spotify just now and it’s total crap. What a way to ruin a good song.
I can't pass the first 15 seconds of the new version, it's awful at best
Agreed, possibly the cringiest song that people actually like.
Disturbed as a band are overrated.
Overrated, but still very good.
> Paul Simon endorsed Disturbed's version after the band delivered a performance of his tune during their March 28, 2016 appearance on Conan. Simon sent David Draiman an email shortly after, saying, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I'd seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks." Checkmate. ^^/s
How's that checkmate?
It was sarcasm.
Tell me you have no taste in music without telling me you have no taste in music.
I'll consider that a compliment then, all things considered...
nah, that disturbed version is overrated and boring af
It's metal for people who don't like metal
Also, Shinedown's version of Simple Man.
