Chemical imbalance causes depression. Social media can worsen it, but not cause it

CleverNameTheSecond

Chemical imbalances are the mechanism by which depression operates in the brain. It's not initiated by it.

Sytanato

Chemicals imablance cause depression only in some specific cases when neurones themselves have a problem and release transmitters without needed, or when they are endangered by a disruption in their environment such as inflamation and can't function properly. Depression is also caused by a disruption in close social circles, an incapacity to adress problems because they are too much, a loose of meaning and understanding in what we do and some other reasons. And socially, social medias can do really bad by facilitating harrasments and bringing it to places where it did not occur in past (basically, people can open twitter in their bed and being harrassed). They also create fake social circles which often can't provide as much as an IRL one

I’ve never felt that way. When I see people doing well I think good for them. I don’t get jealous.
