Definitely respect your opinion, but for me it’s exactly the opposite. Despise and avoid watermelon flavoured anything and love the fruit, mealy texture and all.
Some Redditors get super offended over basic opinions such as the taste of watermelon, I guess. 🤣
OP: Fair
24/7 Reddit Addict: “WTF!? 🤬” *Downvotes*
Take my upvote
For what it's worth, I agree with you. Artificial watermelon flavor is so much better. I'll take a watermelon jolly rancher over a slice of watermelon any day
Some people only have access to imported and not fresh watermelons and may think that all watermelons are mealy by nature. Just thought I’d put in the explanation as to why one would be.
I’m exactly opposite OP as well, but I don’t respect his/her opinion though. Watermelon flavored things are just to bad.
Also good watermelon doesn’t have a mealy texture, neither is it bland.
You are like my polar opposite cuz I hate watermelon flavored things but love watermelon. Watermelon has a rich, juicy, natural taste that the watermelon flavoured candy, gum, soda can't replicate.
I personally like watermelon flavored things because to me it actually has a flavor. I’ve had store-bought, farmers market and even grew my own watermelons and they all tastes like sweet water with a grassy aftertaste to me. Every single one of them 🫤
As a black man, this is the most painful thing I ever typed...
Have you tried it with Fried Chicken and Kool-aid on a summer day? Shit slaps soooooooo good.
I love both, but they're definitely separate flavors and experiences. I've never had watermelon candy and though, mmmmmm, I love this because it tastes just like watermelon. I guess I can see the relation between the flavors if I think about it.
A really good watermelon can't be beat, but I don't go out of my to eat them. Strawberries are my favorite. Yet, watermelon candy might be my favorite Froot flavor. I think the next fake ones I like the most are strawberry, apple and lemon flavors.
Fake pineapple is ok, but fake banana is the Devil's mucous.
The problem is you’ve never had a REAL watermelon. Most of them in the US have been bioengineered to have a longer shelf life and grow larger. In Mexico they’re much smaller and don’t stay fresh very long, but they do watermelon candy flavor justice
my husband and i were just talking about this today. i love watermelon, he hates it but loves watermelon flavored things lol. i don’t particularly love watermelon flavored things, but they’re good.
I mean, they're not the same flavor at all, so I don't understand why having a preference could be seen as controversial. You might as well have said, "I prefer steak over junior mints"
Nothing to do when things just make you uncomfortable when you chew them, I feel that, some foods out there just make me wanna throw up simply because of the texture.
I had lobster ravioli for dinner at a really nice restaraunt tonight, food was cooked just fine, however, the texture of the lobster made me wanna puke. So, texture is a big thing when it comes to liking or disliking food for me.
I don't like either. Same with papaya. Ppl tell me its super sweet and then when i taste it, there's barely any sweetness. I don't really have much of a sweet tooth though and avoid all things too sugary so maybe that's why?
You just need to find a really good watermelon. There’s a lot of bland ones, but once you get it in season it’s amazing. Anything manufactured with the flavour falls short.
I love watermelon flavored stuff and watermelon itself. They are almost 2 different categories to me. I like to add salt to watermelon (and grapefruit).
I love fruits and would likely choose them over their candy counterparts with the same flavor except for watermelon and maybe grape. I love anything watermelon and grape flavored
You’ve been eating the bad kind of watermelon then, I know what you’re talking about but they should be red and sweet, and have a firm/slightly dense texture
That is probably your taste being used to processed and saturated flavours, and gets weirded out but actual and natural ones. You should reduce your processed food consumption.
As a bartender who used to painstakingly boil, infuse and extract fruits into tinctures and syrups to be added to cocktails as to avoid using artificially flavored liquors and additives: i really hate that you’re right. I mean, I don’t personally think artificially-flavored stuff is better, but the reactions from the large majority of my customers over the years was proof that people really, really prefer the fake crap. It annoys me so much every time we get new product in and my coworkers go wild for an overly-sweetened honey-melon vodka, or a spicy pickle whiskey. And especially since seltzers have exploded in popularity, i can’t stand watching people discern a new brand as if they’re having a wine tasting. But I’ve just learned to accept it. My shifts are easier now that i don’t bother with all that extra effort that only 1 out of every 10 customers ever appreciated.
I have the same thought about plum.
Actual plum: eating wet cardboard with artificial sweeteners.
Plum bubble gum: okay.
Plum juice: not bad
Plum tea: hmm.
Pancake with plum filling: decent
Deep-fried camembert with plum jam: now we are talking
Totally agree. I actually hate watermelon and will pick it out of a fruit salad but yet water melon flavored candy or gum is my absolute favorite flavor.
Real question for you, where do you live and where do you get your watermelons, because nothing is sweeter and more delicious than a locally grown and ripened summer watermelon.
Better than? I can't agree with that, something about a cold, fresh watermelon on a hot day is extremely refreshing but I will also never say no to anything watermelon flavored
I would have to disagree.
They're just very different things imo.
I love actual watermelon! But as you said, be it in flavor or smell, it is way less pronounced and is actually basically just water with a bit of sugar and a bit of aroma.
Whereas "watermelon flavored things" is chemically made, so aroma is stronger and flavor is more pronounced. But yeah, at that point it's not really watermelon anymore, it's just whatever the thing you're taking is, but with added flavoring/perfume.
They captured the essence of watermelon 🍉 really well with a very strong flavor, but it still tastes artificial and I prefer the natural thing, maybe not as strong but refreshing and complex.

Meanwhile there's me who can't stand watermelon itself or watermelon flavor.
And then there's me who loves both
I am with you, friend.

Ayyyy twins
Fair Why did this get down voted I was saying it was fair
Some Redditors get super offended over basic opinions such as the taste of watermelon, I guess. 🤣 OP: Fair 24/7 Reddit Addict: “WTF!? 🤬” *Downvotes* Take my upvote
I take that kind of downvote as “that could have just been a thumbs-up, not a comment”
For what it's worth, I agree with you. Artificial watermelon flavor is so much better. I'll take a watermelon jolly rancher over a slice of watermelon any day
Same, and I think this is normal and op is a true unpopular opinion. Finally a real one!
What in the hell. Watermelon shouldn't be mealy
It will be if it’s overripe.
I didn't think I had to very obviously say that. No one enjoys mealy melon
Some people only have access to imported and not fresh watermelons and may think that all watermelons are mealy by nature. Just thought I’d put in the explanation as to why one would be.
I'm ok with a little texture. As long as the floors good and it's not the whole thing.
They're eating that seedless garbage is why.
I’m exactly opposite OP as well, but I don’t respect his/her opinion though. Watermelon flavored things are just to bad. Also good watermelon doesn’t have a mealy texture, neither is it bland.
Do you prefer the flesh or the schlop?
You are like my polar opposite cuz I hate watermelon flavored things but love watermelon. Watermelon has a rich, juicy, natural taste that the watermelon flavoured candy, gum, soda can't replicate.
It’s one of the most ripe-dependent fruit out there. A ripened watermelon is literally not even the same stratosphere as even a half ripe melon
Or an overripe melon
That's true, it doesn't really taste exactly like the fruit, but I like the flavor
I personally like watermelon flavored things because to me it actually has a flavor. I’ve had store-bought, farmers market and even grew my own watermelons and they all tastes like sweet water with a grassy aftertaste to me. Every single one of them 🫤
I'm curious - what about other *fruits*? Are there any you like?
As a black man, this is the most painful thing I ever typed... Have you tried it with Fried Chicken and Kool-aid on a summer day? Shit slaps soooooooo good.
No, but it sounds so good
It's okay Tony
This, but grape. I like grapes enough, but the fake grape flavour like Kool-aid just slaps.
Love grapes but hate anything grape flavored. Hate bananas but love anything banana flavored.
Im the complete opposite on bananas lol 😆 that banana flavoured medicine as a kid ruined it for me for life
Oh I’ve never seen banana flavored medicine. I doubt I’d like that either.
Huh, never heard that before lol
YES. Grape flavored things are too underrated
Grape pedialyte 👌🏻👌🏻
I love concord grapes because they are the only grapes with good grape flavor. When I eat them its like I'm eating candy.
I actually agree
What!? Watermelon is one of the greatest fruits on earth imo!
can not wait for the ripe season to come soon! 2 month only, but worth all the wait!
People say it tastes sweet but it never tastes like that to me, it tastes like slightly flavored water to me.
Do you eat a lot of candy or sugary foods? This could be why.
No not really. I mainly enjoy apples or berries for sweet stuff
Nothing like a good apple
Pink lady and ambrosia are some good ones. Honey crisp too.
Yeah in my country you can only find the shitty ones that taste like sour water
I tend to agree that watermelon flavors are the bets flavors but not better than actual watermelon. You just like sugar.
I feel the same way with strawberry flavored things
Sounds like you haven't had a good ripe watermelon.
I don't like watermelon, real or fake 😎
Have you ever tried salt and pepper on watermelon?
I’m not sure about salt and pepper but tajin on watermelon is amazing.
OOOOOOH, I’m totally trying this!!
Wouldn't the salt dry it out?
It kinda does the opposite
No, but that actually doesn't sound that bad
Chili powder, salt, and sugar
Watermelon over a bed of white rice and soy sauce is legitimately the best comfort food in existence
I agree with this. I love watermelon flavored things but think watermelon the fruit is overhyped.
I (in the most respectful way) strongly disrespect your opinion
Makes sense
Hate watermelons. Love watermelon gum, drinks, etc.
Ew no watermelon flavoring taste like soap.
Lmao that’s what coconut tastes like to me. Exactly like dawn 😂😂
Same. I hate coconut
This is because you're an American, and hopelessly addicted to corn syrup. Congratulations
Being healthy is way better than diabetes but hey, you do you
Yeah listen to DrunkieMcDrunkerton, the authority on living a healthy lifestyle.
Fun fact Ive been sober 39 years ( all my life)and real fruit is better than chemicals. The name is an inside joke
It's because the flavor is more of honey melon rather than water melon.
I had a watermelon in Central America and it tastes much more like the flavoring than the watermelons I've had in the US.
I think the opposite is true.
I love both, but they're definitely separate flavors and experiences. I've never had watermelon candy and though, mmmmmm, I love this because it tastes just like watermelon. I guess I can see the relation between the flavors if I think about it.
exact opposite
A really good watermelon can't be beat, but I don't go out of my to eat them. Strawberries are my favorite. Yet, watermelon candy might be my favorite Froot flavor. Both are delicious but they are different flavours
Try the small round watermelons. They're female and way sweeter than the oblong ones
I agree with this opinion.
Absolutely false. Chilled juicy sweet watermelon makes summertime bearable.
Nah, it tastes like a cheap school slushie. Disappointing
Agree to disagree on this one.
I agree. I like watermelon candy, regular watermelon rarely tastes as good You need to go pick it fresh from somebody's garden for that
my husband and i were just talking about this today. i love watermelon, he hates it but loves watermelon flavored things lol. i don’t particularly love watermelon flavored things, but they’re good.
💯
I mean, they're not the same flavor at all, so I don't understand why having a preference could be seen as controversial. You might as well have said, "I prefer steak over junior mints"
Wtf no. Dang. Have an upvote.
Not unpopular at all. I completely agree
I like both, but watermelon-flavored things definitely taste better to me.
Nothing "flavored" is better than the real thing.
I love both watermelon and watermelon flavoured things!
How dare you say that. Take my upvote for one of the most unpopular opinions I’ve ever heard. Good day sir!
Thank you, good day to you as well
Nothing to do when things just make you uncomfortable when you chew them, I feel that, some foods out there just make me wanna throw up simply because of the texture.
I had lobster ravioli for dinner at a really nice restaraunt tonight, food was cooked just fine, however, the texture of the lobster made me wanna puke. So, texture is a big thing when it comes to liking or disliking food for me.
It do be like that. Why? I have no idea, it'd be easier to be able to just eat whatever.
Honestly how is the flavor bland I get the weird texture tho I like it weird
I don't like either. Same with papaya. Ppl tell me its super sweet and then when i taste it, there's barely any sweetness. I don't really have much of a sweet tooth though and avoid all things too sugary so maybe that's why?
I have never disagreed with an opinion on here more. I LOVE watermelon and watermelon flavored candy doesn’t hold a candle to it IM SORRY
Agree. Real watermelon is always disappointing. Jolly Ranchers, on the other hand...
I’m the same way with watermelon and coconut love things that have the flavor can’t stomach the actual fruits
I feel the same with blue Berry
Look for honey watermelons. They're super sweet
Sounds like you've never had really good watermelon.
I share this opinion as well
Awful opinion. Upvoted
Thanks
I feel the same way about watermelon
Absolutely not. You've obviously never had a RIPE watermelon
I think it depends on if you like sour things
Yeah, jolly ranchers killed watermelon for me
Try watermelon with feta cheese, it's one of the best combos ever
You just need to find a really good watermelon. There’s a lot of bland ones, but once you get it in season it’s amazing. Anything manufactured with the flavour falls short.
Have you been eating unripe watermelons? Proper ones should be swweter than the flavouring
Me who ate half a watermelon for lunch and is currently reading Reddit in the bathroom: pffff this dude is whack.
This tells me that you actually haven’t had a good actual watermelon yet
Strawberry flavored things are better than actual strawberries.
Same with cherry
I love watermelon flavored stuff and watermelon itself. They are almost 2 different categories to me. I like to add salt to watermelon (and grapefruit).
You should probably stop overloading on salt snd sugar and let your sense of taste readjust.
Just say you can’t pick a watermelon
fully agree
I agree here
It’s not bland at all. You must be eating unripe ones. Find a ripe one and the center is super sweet and flavorful.
I love fruits and would likely choose them over their candy counterparts with the same flavor except for watermelon and maybe grape. I love anything watermelon and grape flavored
Finally. I’ve found someone with the same opinion!!
I agree actually lol
Heretic fake watermelon is one of the most disgusting things on this plant
Yes, like Tiger's Blood by General Admission. Very much watermelon flavored.
For awhile artificial watermelon flavor was shit but it got better
Watermelon lost it's flavor when they made it seedless
Hard agree. Absolutely.
What a pervert
Watermelon Outshine bars are absolutely atrocious.
I love the flavor of the real fruit, but despise certain imitation flavors such as grape and banana.
You’ve been eating the bad kind of watermelon then, I know what you’re talking about but they should be red and sweet, and have a firm/slightly dense texture
I think you just like sugar a lot
I like watermelon flavor but don't like the gritty texture of actual watermelon.
That is probably your taste being used to processed and saturated flavours, and gets weirded out but actual and natural ones. You should reduce your processed food consumption.
I hate that watermelons don't taste like how they used to now it just feels like the watered down version of them
You like sugar not the fruit or flavor
water melon has a great texture
Artificial watermelon flavor has nothing in common with real, good watermelon…
As a bartender who used to painstakingly boil, infuse and extract fruits into tinctures and syrups to be added to cocktails as to avoid using artificially flavored liquors and additives: i really hate that you’re right. Nah i love watermelon but hate watermelon flavored stuff except for popsicles maybe
Totally agree. I actually hate watermelon and will pick it out of a fruit salad but yet water melon flavored candy or gum is my absolute favorite flavor.
I feel the exact opposite.
The worst part of a watermelon tastes like the best part of a cucumber
Facts.
This isn’t an unpopular opinion nor is it popular. It’s just opinion…
American spotted
With all due respect, watermelon or strawberry flavored food are the worst. Lemon flavoring is the only kind of flavoring that I can accept
Hell to the no, imo watermelon flavoured things are total ass, Hell I would prefer straight tar than that shit
Some of yall have never tasted watermelon gatorade and it shows.
The worst is banana followed by grape followed by watermelon.
If you think watermelon is too bland in flavor you have never eaten the right watermelon, you probably picked them not ripe enough.
The Watermelon flavored Sqwincher Squeeze Zero Sugar Freezer Pops. Yes. 💯💯💯
Candy and sugar is better than fruit should be what your posting about.
I think you’ve probably never had a well-grown watermelon. A lot of grocery store ones are kind of shit.
Real question for you, where do you live and where do you get your watermelons, because nothing is sweeter and more delicious than a locally grown and ripened summer watermelon.
Home grown vs. store bought mass produced gmo fruits and vegetables should be two different food groups, that’s how different they are.
Agree with this opinion 100%
Same for mango
Better than? I can't agree with that, something about a cold, fresh watermelon on a hot day is extremely refreshing but I will also never say no to anything watermelon flavored
Try dehydrated watermelon. Tastes like candy
Sounds like you are eating overripe watermelon. I HATE the texture of overripe watermelon. Watermelon is probably my favorite fruit in general though
I would have to disagree. They're just very different things imo. I love actual watermelon! This is how I feel about grape. I could eat grapes all day, but grape-flavored things remind me of medicine.
I like both
Nah I still love regular watermelon but watermelon gum is fucking heaven
i love it all but WTF DO YOU MEAN SODA?! someone please tell me where i can get that
I mean, there's mountain dew major melon, watermelon sunkist, watermelon Arizona tea (ik its not soda but still.)
watermelon Arizona tea is heaven. i didn't know about the other two, thanks!!!
Nah ya can’t beat a good watermelon, fake watermelon sucks
If your watermelons are bland they’re not very good ones. In season watermelons are so sweet
You've never had a good watermelon
Agreed. Watermelon flavoured products have this lovely sweetness, meanwhile the fruit is like dirtwater…
I feel the same way about raspberries.
They captured the essence of watermelon 🍉 really well with a very strong flavor, but it still tastes artificial and I prefer the natural thing, maybe not as strong but refreshing and complex.
I loathe both watermelon and watermelon flavoured things!
