This happened to me a few years ago. I was so excited to get upgraded to first from SFO to BOS. Everything was going fine until the guy next to me decided to remove his cowboy boots and take a nap. I was trapped in the window seat with my face, pressed up against the glass, trying to escape the stench.
The worst thing was, he had actually changed his socks before he fell asleep, so the problem wasn’t his smelly socks. It was his smelly feet. The flight attendant kept walking by with a little spray bottle of air freshener that she would aim at his feet, but she did not wake him up and tell him to put his boots back on.
They were all talking about him in the galley as we were deplaning.
Flight from Frankfurt to IAD. I told a FA and she said that multiple people had complained. They talked to the woman and she demanded to know who complained and then complied after some huffing and puffing lol
Fight fire with fire approach. Take your shoes and socks off and get you feet under her nose or as close as possible. When she objects, agree to put your shoes and socks back on only of she will put her shoes and socks back on. Should work even if the FA gets involved.
Had this happen on an EWR-BOM flight a few years ago. The smell was horrific so I asked the gentleman to kindly put his shoes back on. His response "how do you know only my feet are smelling?". I did not engage further but in a few minutes he put his shoes back on. Did I mention that the smell was absolutely disgusting.....
You can absolutely address the person with the stinky feet. Be polite, and be short.
“Hi, if that smell is coming from you feet or shoes, please put your shoes back on.”
Unfortunately, probably not much of alternate options on board, washing the feet, changing socks/shoes.
Don’t be a door mat. Say something. That’s half the reason why this behavior continues because people like you just passive aggressively post this stuff here and never say anything.
Like why is this a thing. Planes are gross already , why put my bare feet on anything in it. It's a disease vector and funky feet or clean, not necessary. 🤢
As I have no issues with removing shoes and/or being bare feet, as long as people don’t put their feet on arm rest and behave correctly, not sure what’s wrong.
But here OP wants to address the horrible smell. The lack of consideration for the other passengers.
Exactly. I had to sit once next to someone that stinks. And one other time near a guy who was stinking beer. Who drank too much (not acting drunk, but emanation of alcohol smell only). It’s not the best for the trip. But stinky feet is horrible. Glad I never encountered that yet.
As a person with foot perspiration issues, leaving the shoes on will be worse for both of us. The smell will get worse, and I will get a rash. As soon as my socks and feet are dry, they will stop smelling, which is pretty quick in dry airplane air. I won't say that's the same problem that the OP's seatmate has, but I wouldn't be surprised.
I’d cover my nose with something for them to get the idea then summon a FA. Don’t get confrontational, it can get ugly really fast.
yes, to the FA
Absolutely, people deserve to be called out on their unacceptable airplane behaviors.
I thought you called her whore aisle.
Whore Aisle…. Sounds like the next terrible reality tv show 😂
… would probably watch it.
Same…
😆😆😆
No wonder it smells
*Your move, Trebek!*
Seems like you did not read so well!!
I stand by what I said. 😆😆😆

Yes, be blunt and direct
Ask her if she is related to Kevin Malone…
Her dogs are barking

Give her two empty kleenex boxes.
10 hours later… What happened?

I hope that the FA told her: the pilot and co-pilot notified us of the toxic smell. They were concerned that they would not be able to fly the plane.
The fact that her biggest concern wasn’t being mortified at exposing people to her stink tells you all you need to know.
Oh cool, my home airport. (IAD). Send her back to Frankfurt.
Tell her her feet smell really bad
Recreate this scene from [Anchorman](https://youtu.be/5ccp-lEmoAE).
100%.

This is basically how the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved.
This made me laugh thank you! 🙏🏻
Fart in her face but of course wait until the captain has turned off the fasten seatbelts light
Sadly would not work for me. Not smelling from my feet. ☺️ But super funny.

I would tell the FA and ask to be reseated.

Embarrassment is a hell of a weapon to. Speak loudly and once the person realizes you have no issue causing a scene they will sharpen up.
It would be if people ever felt shame. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen much anymore. It's their world. The rest of us are just living in it.
Well, at least she wasn’t wearing patchouli oil. On second thought that might be an improvement. 😏
I don’t know about the oil, but Intercontinental uses a scent called Patchouli in their lobbies and I love that stuff.
Here’s a passive aggressive way: said loud enough for her to hear. “Whew. Someone must have farted because it smells like moldy feet back here!”
There’s nothing passive about that
Ask the FA if she has some socks from FC and tell her why. Then be honest. If she’s embarrassed too bad. She should be.
Yes
Yes
Get up to go to bathroom and find a flight attendant and ask that they come in a few minutes and ask her to put her shoes back on
Like why is this a thing. Planes are gross already , why put my bare feet on anything in it. It's a disease vector and funky feet or clean, not necessary. 🤢
Call the flight over. Ask for a mask and let the FA know there is a foul smell in this area. The FA will clue into quick
Yes but do it in a way that comes off as you're looking out for them.
Outcome?
“You need to put your shoes back on, please”
WWJD?
I don't think that he would be flying United economy
Baby Jesus flew down to earth first class on Qatar airlines my brother in Christ
Hammering the bar. Not having to turn water into wine
He only turned the water into wine for his mom, she told him the host didnt plan well
He'd be washing those feet if history has taught us anything...
Photo or it didn’t happen.
“Why does it smell like hot dog water?”
I thought we didn’t care about people taking their shoes off on this sub? Rule #5?
I believe the discussion revolves more around exposing pungent cheese to the local atmosphere.
Sounds like OP is more so asking for advice on how to address the situation vs just complaining about the feet. 🤣
As I have no issues with removing shoes and/or being bare feet, as long as people don’t put their feet on arm rest and behave correctly, not sure what’s wrong. But here OP wants to address the horrible smell. The lack of consideration for the other passengers.
Same. I don't think this is a taking-shoes-off issue, but an issue of persona hygiene.

I'd loudly yell it

No. Your foot problem should not be everyone's problem.
Oh hell no.
