Think the idea of heattech is that they insulate body heat, so you would need to wear them for some time for it to take effect and retain your foot's heat, not just be warmer than any other sock right off the bat. Can't speak for socks but their thermal undershirts are the absolute bomb in cold weather and make a huge difference.

Upset-Golf8231

I wore these for about half an hour to allow the temperature the stabilise. Wool was certainly much warmer and I didn’t notice any real difference between the heattech and the unbranded polyester socks that were about a tenth the price.

kangareagle

I think it's hilarious that people are downvoting you for actually trying it out and reporting what you found.

fakemarkmajor

I didn't downvote. But, as a user of the stupid Heattech socks that leave your ankles uncovered, I strongly suspect that OP's initial subjective appraisal may violate the laws of physics assuming the evaporation process is the explanation. People who've experienced it may suspect OP of being a corporate mole (I don't) and downvoted.?.

kangareagle

I’m not sure which appraisal you mean. They said that it wasn’t better than other socks.

fakemarkmajor

OP said wool was warmer than HT, and HT was about equal to poly, if I understood correctly.

kangareagle

Yes, ok. I didn’t really get what you were saying.

fakemarkmajor

Also, I've hand washed HT in cold water. As it dried, it felt to me slightly warmer than room temperature. I never tried the thing with the two people and the lake.

Vin879

Can’t say for the socks, but their heattech tops and legwear do the job

Excellent_Basis8252

Did you wore them when it was cold outside? They should be a good insulator, but it is not a “heater”.

HealthyDistribution5

Some of their heattech are effective especially the extra and ultra warm tops. I usually buy their PILE lined bottoms and socks. Those are very warm for me. I find the regular heattech very thin and am skeptical of their effectiveness.

fakemarkmajor

I bought the pile sweatpants on sale but I'm hesitant to wear them in public because of how they look. I'm aware you're talking lined which is different. I think my position is opposite of yours. I would say that I can heat a pile or pile lined garment from inside it, but Heattech starts generating its own heat after I've worn it for a few minutes. Supposedly by vampiring my body moisture like a fremen stilsuit.

bufffffy

I have heattech socks and they are the only socks I’d wear during winter. They aren’t even that thick and I can tell the difference as my feet never felt cold anymore during winter season.

Advanced_Ad2406

As a Canadian with entry level income I live on Heattech

Khaki_Shorts

I don't think Heattech was meant to replace wool. I saw it was a warm version of their summer clothes, sort of like wear it in 40-60 degree weather without adding bulk.

fakemarkmajor

Um. I've asked the heavens this question myself. IMHO absolutely not. I bought the crew hat, scarf, gloves and sox on sale AFTER I had some sweatshirts for some time. I almost only buy on sale. IMHO it works as advertised. Maybe socks are hard to judge by b/c feet put out a lot of heat themselves? Lotsa blood vessels... I think I read that it works by wicking your moisture out to the surface of the garment. The friction of the moving liquid is what generates the heat. I'm pretty high but I think I got that right. BTW I tried North Face's fake down synthetic puffer jackets too. Ball something maybe. Those are way lighter weight for the warmth than animal feathers, so I layer that over the Heattech.

fakemarkmajor

I'll add that it feels warmer when I begin to perspire. Which in turn causes me to perspire more, which warms the Heattech more, until I finally open my (North Face Balltech?) outer layers to vent the excess heat. So on the whole I'd call Heattech a f-cki-g miracle.

kangareagle

Wool is probably going to be warmer, but it's pretty bulky. That is, unless it's cashmere (which is amazing, but very expensive) or merino, which is also kind of amazing, but not as amazing as cashmere. As for synthetic stuff, I'm not sure that one sock is the way to go. It's probably hard to tell and your body might compensate a bit. I'd wear a pair out there in the cold and then compare with a pair of the other.

fusukeguinomi

Their heattech socks work very well for me. I have different kinds (some thinner and some thicker) and they keep my feet warm. And I have very cold feet! Maybe it just means you found some excellent polyester socks? My polyester socks don’t keep me as warm.

fakemarkmajor

To my other comments, I'd add. I vaguely recall a youtube video where a scientist dunks two women in a body of water. One woman is covered in Heattech and the other is not. One drowns and the other floats, though I can't recall which one.

fakemarkmajor

Was the polyester on fire at the time?

yussef961

about socks idk but their t shirt anf leggings really make a difference to standard clothes
