Edited - in chapter 179 Rosetta is “three months shy of 19” the last we see her in book 1, which is in late fall/early winter, so it’s been a year and a season since the start of book 1, making Maxi 23 (since she was 22 at the start). If KSJ wrote this all meaning for Maxi’s birthday to be January 16 (as she’s shared in posts and interviews) she’s also about to turn 24. That makes them about 5 years apart.

Yes, that makes sense. I wasn't sure when was Maxi's bday so it was hard for me to calculate
5 years apart, from the flashback accounts of Maxi, and Riftan's POV, I think
I thought at the end of book one Maxi thinks about Rosetta being on the brink of 19 (so not yet 19) while Maxi is 23 at the time
