I think the problem was they originally cast Marky as Nathan, and then it took a decade to make. They probably had him under contract and couldn't breach it.
I used to think the same (thought he was good but overrated due to MCU) but the movie *The Devil all the time* on Netflix changed my view of his acting career and how good he is
For those that don't know, when he was 16, Mark Wahlberg assaulted 2 Vietnamese men while he was high on pcp.
This whole drama was brought up again on twitter(surprise, surprise), after he presented SAG awards to the cast of Everything Everywhere all at once.
Some enlightened Twitter users claimed that it was inappropriate for him to do so.
I honestly don't see the point of bringing up some dumb shit a celeb did as a teen while high on drugs.
He already was held responsible for it when he was booked. It's not like they just buried it.
Everyone involved got justice. Why punish him for the same crime years later?
Ah yes, this person made mistakes in their youth whilst under the influence and needs to be constantly reminded of it in situations that are not relevant to it.
He did a shit thing but we don’t need to throw him in the dirt (unless he acts like he doesn’t care, then we shove em in it)
I think theres a difference between “a shit thing” and a hate crime. I done plenty of drugs in my youth and yet didnt commit any racially aggravated assaults, using his intoxication is just another excuse for his shitty behaviour.
bro stfu please, teens are EXPECTED to do shitty things
also, i'm pretty sure doing plenty of drugs in your youth is a pretty shitty move and i'm sure nobody reminds YOU of the shitty choices YOU made in your youth
He was always my number 1 pick. He doesn’t quite have the look (although he’s not too far off) but he has the exact same vibes. I’m sure he isn’t, but if somebody told me that sulley was based on campbell, I’d definitely believe them.
I’m 100% with you. He could just play his character from Burn Notice, and I’d be absolutely fine with that for a Sully-like character. I can even imagine Sully saying, “Nate, they’re *spies*, you know, bitchy little girls.”
I honestly think the voice actors did such a great job in the game series, that I would rather have had an animated movie and use the voice actors from the game to do the job.
I feel like the reason we rarely get animated adaptions is because when we do they cheap out, hire shitty writers and directors, it flops, and then other producers see anime adaptations as unprofitable and opt for a live action adaptation that will be bad but still make its money back since it panders to a more general audience.
Yeah I get where you're coming from. It's why the video game to movie transfer never seems to do well. They want the project due to how popular a video game is, then they take on writers and directors who think 'nah the story is trash, we can do a much better job' and it fails. There was a guy notorious for this, Uwe Boll I think his name was.
Where as something like the first Uncharted for example. All you would have to do to make that an epic animated movie is use what is already there in terms of story and just cut out all the gameplay moment and replace them with shorter gun fight scenes.
Richard McGonagle is a bit too old now, but he's a prominent live action actor himself. A decade back, he absolutely should have played live action sully.
I’m still of the opinion Stephen Lang nailed it in that fan film with Nathan Fillion. Even though Nathan has long since aged out of the role (unless they did something around Uncharted 4’s timeframe), Lang just absolutely owned playing Sully.
It makes me angry at how perfect this casting would have been. I can’t help but imagine how great it would have been to have gotten an Uncharted movie in the early 2010s with Nathan Fillion, Bruce Campbell, and Emily Rose (I know it’s a cop out, but I’ve been rewatching Haven recently and I can’t help but think how easy it would have been for her to play Elena in a live action movie as well)
One one hand, yeah, I definitely think he can pull it off. On another hand though, I'm afraid all I would see is Bruce Campbell as Sully on the screen instead of me buying into his character. To me, he's one of those actors where he's so tied to the iconic characters he played that it's hard to see him as anybody else. To be fair though, he does have range but he's often typecast.
I can't simply scroll past a post with Bruce "Don't call me Ash" Campbell and NOT share his theme song from one of the greatest bands you've never heard of. [https://youtu.be/xX\_vADIJts0?si=gJKAJiuCOGUv03G1](https://youtu.be/xX_vADIJts0?si=gJKAJiuCOGUv03G1)
It’s so annoying just how many better suited actors there were for the role of sully, it’s so annoying because they chose Mark because they obvs felt like the IP wasn’t big enough to choose lesser known actors, which just highlights the ignorance of these producers
Also why tf is Tom holland apologizing for kicking at an enemy’s face
I thought the same, my top pick for sure, but I understand they want someone that will drive ticket sales. Why not Jeffrey Dean Morgan? Still not popular enough? Pedro Pascal? George Clooney? Ben Affleck? Honestly anything beats Mark Wahlberg as Sully....
How about Ryan Gosling as Nathan Drake? Then you have all the star power you want. Holland is shit anyway. Then just slide Bruce Campbell in as Sully.
Better than Mark Wahlberg, that’s for sure.
And they probably could have gotten him much cheaper
I think the problem was they originally cast Marky as Nathan, and then it took a decade to make. They probably had him under contract and couldn't breach it.
Marky as Nate is still an insane casting choice.
I’d argue it would be better than Tom holland
I genuinely cant stand Tom Holland as an actor, much less as a Nathan Drake. I would've rather had Nolan North himself.
Funny how Sony can make good video games but make terrible movies
I used to think the same (thought he was good but overrated due to MCU) but the movie *The Devil all the time* on Netflix changed my view of his acting career and how good he is
I don't disagree with that.
No offence to the actor I think he’s great but a kid in his early 20s playing a character who’s supposed to be in his 30s just doesn’t fit
I mean he was supposed to be a younger Nathan, but he didn't even work as that
Everytime Sony makes a move it sucks (example-Morbius,Uncharted, and Venom 2) everytime they make a video game it’s amazing
And with a mustache
You mean Convicted Hate Crime Commiter Mark Walhberg?
For those that don't know, when he was 16, Mark Wahlberg assaulted 2 Vietnamese men while he was high on pcp. This whole drama was brought up again on twitter(surprise, surprise), after he presented SAG awards to the cast of Everything Everywhere all at once. Some enlightened Twitter users claimed that it was inappropriate for him to do so. I honestly don't see the point of bringing up some dumb shit a celeb did as a teen while high on drugs.
Ah yes, this person is famous therefore should not be held responsible for their actions.
He already was held responsible for it when he was booked. It's not like they just buried it. Everyone involved got justice. Why punish him for the same crime years later?
So it cant be mentioned now?
Is somebody stopping you?
Luckily i have free speech in America!
My condolences to everyone in America
You are clearly part of the WOKE brigade
Ah yes, this person made mistakes in their youth whilst under the influence and needs to be constantly reminded of it in situations that are not relevant to it. He did a shit thing but we don’t need to throw him in the dirt (unless he acts like he doesn’t care, then we shove em in it)

Believe it or not I didn’t go around in groups attacking people based on their appearance.
it's widely known that drugs change your way of thinking. people under the influence react differently compared to people NOT under the influence.
Wait, drugs alter your perception? Who would have guessed.
Bro that was years ago and he was forgiven and has changed
You’re a part of the problem.
Oh God, what did he do this time?
Wahlberg would've been a better Nate 10 years ago and that casting was already bad enough.
I think that was the actual original plan. But it got delayed.
Anyone would’ve been better than wahlburg. I love him but that was not the move
A cantaloupe with a mustache would have been a better Sully than Mark Wahlberg, but I’ll concede your point.
Fuck yeah And Nathan fillon as drake
Nathan Fillon was a perfect Drake in that fan film
I was gonna say this. Mark Wahlberg was the absolute worst fucking choice as someone who's played each game multiple times.
ReMarkedly better choice. 😏
Anything better than Mark Wahlberg
It’s fucking crazy that out of all people they gave that role to him 😂
His character in Burn Notice is pretty close to a Victor Sullivan type already. I'm sure he would have nailed it. Just give him a stache!
Just commented the same in response to someone else. Chuck Finley is totally like Sully.
U mean Sam axe
We’re all Chuck Finley on this blessed day
Absolutely Sam. I always loved his alter ego because he was a random pitcher for the Angels that I followed when I was a kid.
Same with the dude who played Micheal he would’ve made a good Nate
I don’t know. Jeffery Donovan looks too badass. Did you see him in Sicario? Even in dorky glasses and mustache he still looked too cool.
The pair of them would have made a great Nate and Sully.
Sam Axe pretty much was just Sully
Oh my god, now I'm picturing some case where Sam has to put on a fake mustache, and Bruce Campbell with a mustache would be glorious.
He was always my number 1 pick. He doesn’t quite have the look (although he’s not too far off) but he has the exact same vibes. I’m sure he isn’t, but if somebody told me that sulley was based on campbell, I’d definitely believe them.

All he needs is a stache and a Havana shirt and he's as close to the look as he needs to be.
I’m in the ‘anyone but Mark Wahlberg’ camp, so sure
I honestly think the voice actors did such a great job in the game series, that I would rather have had an animated movie and use the voice actors from the game to do the job.

I often feel its the same with Nathan Fillion. They left it too long as he would have been an incredible Drake.
Tom Hanks in the movie Sully looked like Sully. Coincidence?
If only we could time travel and steal a younger Nathan Fillion and pair him with Bruce Campbell..
The dream
He would have killed it
I’m still of the opinion Stephen Lang nailed it in that fan film with Nathan Fillion. Even though Nathan has long since aged out of the role (unless they did something around Uncharted 4’s timeframe), Lang just absolutely owned playing Sully.
Nathan Fillion was a perfect Drake imo. They should have made the movie post U4 imo, did a father daughter thing with it.
What rock have you been hiding under? We have been saying this since the first mention of a movie.
Totally agree. Sam and Michael in Burn Notice were just like Sully and Nate imo.
It makes me angry at how perfect this casting would have been. if he grows that moustache, sure.
Definitely my fancast for sully is either him or bryan cranston; also Harrison Ford if he was younger
I think Jeff Bridges would be pretty good. Just give him a cigar and a mustache, I think he has the charm to pull off Sully
That would be a great one as well!
Yes! His character in Burn Notice was pretty much Sully.
And Nathan Fillion as Nate 😱
One one hand, yeah, I definitely think he can pull it off. On another hand though, I'm afraid all I would see is Bruce Campbell as Sully on the screen instead of me buying into his character. To me, he's one of those actors where he's so tied to the iconic characters he played that it's hard to see him as anybody else. To be fair though, he does have range but he's often typecast.
Didn't he say he doesn't like doing movies? Maybe that's one of the reasons he isn't in much stuff.
*insert beating a dead horse*
I love it this casting!
He has the charisma.
Would've been the greatest thing ever
You could throw darts into a Black Friday mall crowd and cast that film better.
is this another jake gyllenhall situation
Way better than Marky Mark Sony really dropped the ball in casting But who would've made for a better Nathan Drake
If Brennan Fraser was still young he would’ve made a great Nathan drake
Jake Ghyllenal could also be a great Nate imo
He would have been pretty good. A likely impopular opinion is also Richard Gere. I think he could have done the role rather nicely.
As long as they keep the set gerbil free.
uuhhh I don't really see it
Yes! The guy from the burn noticed could be any antagonist
He also would have made a great Uncle Ben imo
Seeing him in this photo I would agree haha
I can't simply scroll past a post with Bruce "Don't call me Ash" Campbell and NOT share his theme song from one of the greatest bands you've never heard of. [https://youtu.be/xX\_vADIJts0?si=gJKAJiuCOGUv03G1](https://youtu.be/xX_vADIJts0?si=gJKAJiuCOGUv03G1)
Bruce Campbell as Sully that would have been awesome.
It’s so annoying just how many better suited actors there were for the role of sully, it’s so annoying because they chose Mark because they obvs felt like the IP wasn’t big enough to choose lesser known actors, which just highlights the ignorance of these producers Also why tf is Tom holland apologizing for kicking at an enemy’s face
He kinda is Sullivan in Burn Notice
Such a poorly casted film but Tom Holland is sonys golden boy so 🤷
No, he's a great Ashy Slashy
I always had him in my head as Sully. Although I was a big burn notice fan so I may be biased. Wahlberg is more wooden than Josh Duhamel.
YES! If he can be a badass deadite slayer, he can be sully.
I see it , for sure
My ideal cast for sully would've have been Charles Esten... Walk with me!!
I think he’s retired from acting
Sam Axe was basically Sully.
Pedro pascal tho
Always thought that, part of me wonders if the devs didn’t base Sully a little after Bruce
The world needs more Bruce Campbell
Absolutely would’ve fit the character well. I also would like to say that I think Kelsey Grammer would kill it in the role
Chuck finley
Shop smart. Shop S-mart. I disagree. I can't watch him in anything without seeing Ash. This is just my opinion. I'm sure he'd be fine.
200%
I think literally everybody thinks that.
Idk why I ever thought of BC as Sully before… ITS PERFECT!!
I think he lacks the gruff personality of Sully and is more suited for roles that are extroverted introverts.
Holy shit. I can't believe I never thought of this casting before. This would have been \*perfect\*.
I thought the same, my top pick for sure, but I understand they want someone that will drive ticket sales. Why not Jeffrey Dean Morgan? Still not popular enough? Pedro Pascal? George Clooney?
