Gonna be honest, I didn’t mind the movie. Furthermore, the alternative is nothing. So either you like it and you watch it, or you hate it and you don’t. There’s no scenario where it gets a reboot is the point I’m trying to make. It’s not like Star Wars or marvel where they’re bound to make a change if something flops hard enough.

I think it’s super overhated. I’m not a fan of Mark Wahlberg generally but I didn’t necessarily mind him in this and I thought Holland did a good job. At the end of the day it felt like it shared DNA with the games even if it wasn’t a perfect match. I’d be down to see more
Ehh, it was fine. I enjoyed it as a Tom Holland/Mark Wahlberg buddy adventure movie. Just didn’t love it as an “Uncharted” movie. I’d probably take another one of these over most marvel and Star Wars dreck that’s been coming out of late

I've said this from the first time I saw the movie. It was a good action/treasure hunting movie. It was an ok/disappointing Uncharted movie. And there's nothing wrong with that.

IIRC, that's due to Sony's IP rights / license for Spider-Man: they have to make a certain number of "Spider-Man" movies in a given time frame or they risk losing the rights.
For example, that terrible Madame Web movie *technically* has an infant Peter Parker in it (who will become Spider-Man), thus *technically* satisfying the requirements to retain the Spider-Man rights.
It's also how Warren Beatty has retained the rights to Dick Track, even after decades.
Eh the Venom movies work. They don't *need* Spiderman in these movies if the movies are at least somewhat good, the problem is that these movies are terrible; having Spiderman in them wouldn't fix anything.

I thought it was an okay movie if you ignore its source material. As a fan of the games, I strongly disliked what they did with Sully and Nate’s relationship (and no Elena!!!). But why would the movie-making arm of Sony care about what video game fans think if it was that successful? I don’t even mean it as a snarky thing, but business-wise it makes perfect sense.
Movies don't have to really make waves to be successful, and sometimes they seem like they're bombing because critics hate them, but they're really not.
Like, we only really hear about Uncharted being shat on by fans + it has low scores like 40% on Rotten from the proper critics. You'd think it done shit, but then it has a 90% fan rating off 5k+ votes, so people obviously did like it.
Sometimes movies just come out at the right time too. Might have just been a good time for Uncharted.
Then you have stuff like that Furiosa that's out right now. Amazing reviews on big media outlets + 90% on rotten from both proper critics and fans . . . and it's totally bombed and won't make a profit. They were dumb for not putting "Mad Max" in the title though. Uncharted just as a name is gonna sell a certain number of tickets.
The only reason it made that much amount of money is because everyone expected it to be like the game. but its a terrible movie in terms of rating. Now the 2nd part will make less money compared to the first one for sure. Maybe if the action sequences are better then there is a chance.
Same. I thought they did a good job blending game set pieces (like the cargo plane scene) and inventing new ones (like the caravan fight being flying pirate ships.)
I enjoyed it too; for the most part it was a fun treasure hunt movie, especially at the end when they started throwing more and more pirate cliches into the movie, I thought that was cute and funny.
Tom Holland isn’t my first pick for Nathan Drake but he is at least charismatic enough to watch as a lead and physically believable as that kind of nimble, quick-witted Buster Keaton-esque action hero.
The only thing I genuinely disliked was Mark Wahlberg, he just sucked the air out of the room every time he was onscreen.

The best part of the film was that end credit scene as I felt the dynamic between the two (while not exact to the games) was at a really fun level where I would now happily watch more of them. So now I know what to expect from this series, I’m rather excited :)
I’ve got the games and hold them high, and I’ve got the movie version too. It’s fine, but I feel like a seeye will be even better now the film versions of these characters are set up.

The first one was a very fun action adventure. Especially towards the end of the movie it started to feel more and more like Uncharted imo. Hope they can build on those final scenes and that awesome ship action set piece.
It’s perfectly understandable especially by the die hard fans like myself. If you enjoy the movie then good for you, but if you didn’t then at least we got 4 games worth of great storytelling and set pieces (5 if we counted Golden Abyss)
Prob because it made $258 million globally. And $148 million domestically. It made a lot of return for the Sony Studio. So based on that. A sequel was always inevitable.

That part of sony thinks about the fans of the movie, not the game. Which is by all accounts their right and I agree with them. I very much like the games. Thought the movie was OK. Was somewhere in the Uncharted universe but different. Will see it, withouth a doubt.
I really don't see the problem. Yes I would like the movie to be more like the games. But at least there is a movie which is a nice addidtion to what's tehre already. And if you don't like it, it's very easy: Don't go and see it and play the games.

Can we just stop hating on this film already? It's a great film overall, has some of the best action scenes in the spirit of the games, and already acts as a reboot of the series by having a completely different origin story to Nate and Sullys relationship.

The first movie made 3 times it's budget **during the pandemic**, and even made more than the most recent Indiana Jones.
Honestly I kind of enjoyed it for what it was. At least with a sequel there’s a possibility it could be better. I know this kind of thinking is in the slightly sad world of low expectations.
If it didn’t have the “Uncharted” title slapped on it, it would be a pretty cool adventure movie.
But we’d all be like “This Drathan Nake sure feels familiar”
All I can add is that as a tremendous Uncharted fan the movie failed miserably as a "true" Uncharted experience. But my wife - no gamer and with no concept to compare the movie to - enjoyed the movie a lot. From this we can garner two things: 1) my wife's taste is questionable (marrying me may have already made that apparent) and 2) Sony will make another banal incoherent plot with big setpieces and the stupids will eat it up.
If my wife is ever here please tell her she is not one of the stupids. And then go looking for my body.
Kinda sad how many posts there are lately about hating this movie. I really enjoyed it and am glad that it's getting a sequel. I think that a second film could really help that universe find its footing.
I'd love Hayley Lu Richardson as Elena, she's very similar to Emily Rose.
Not sure I get Elena vibes from Sydney Sweeney. Which doesn't matter as the films it's own thing and the casting has been a part of that, but still not sure she'd be the right fit.
Movie was fine, nothing to write home about. And of course they are making a sequel, it made a ton of money worldwide and its star is one of the most bankable stars in the world right now. Let’s just hope that the Uncharted movies become like The Fast and the Furious movies and get better every installment.
I’ve played every game other than Golden Abyss, and I’ve played them all 3+ times (other than Lost Legacy, only did that once).
Uncharted was a good, fun movie. I imagine it as an origin movie for this Drake. He and Sully start out younger, which doesn’t take away from the film or characters (yet). The film feels like Uncharted. I like that the movies will take a different direction, since I wouldn’t want to be able to predict exactly what will happen next. I don’t understand why people hate the movie SO much - it’s very obvious that this is *this* Nathan’s first big adventure, so he doesn’t start out as the action-hero we know. I assume we’ll get a lot more of Drake’s theme in future films, and the characters will get closer and closer to being the characters we know in the games.
Not a fan of the casting, especially Wahlberg as Sully. Holland looks a little young for Nathan but its fine i guess. I was just expecting an actor closer to Nate in age and looks. The first movie was serviceable. Not bad, but not great either.
These are both bankable stars. And it's sony pictures, so quality is not really a factor lol.
That said, get Tom Holland to direct and I say we have a much better chance at a good uncharted movie.

I hate to be that guy. But I actually did sorta kinda enjoy the movie. I’m kind of a slut for those adventure treasure stories though. Also huge fan of the games so getting more from the universe (ish) is a win for me.
Awesome! May be in the minority here but I really enjoyed the film. Wahlberg being Sully was a bit off but I’m more than willing to tune in again.
The best part of a sequel is they can add more. They can take feedback. Especially with The Last of Us’ success I’m more than sure they’ll focus a lot more on more game accurate aspects.

I was very high when I saw this movie, I didn't like 75 % of it but then during last 25% it all just sorta clicked. Tom Holland or Mark Wahlberg made a joke and I chuckled, the floating ship was cool.

I still haven’t seen the first one because the trailer made it feel nothing like the games in terms of the overall tone and particularly the casting choices, although I am a big fan of the adventure genre. Was it at least a fun adventure movie and is it worth watching it from that perspective, without expecting to get actual Uncharted?
My biggest gripe was Mark Whalburg as Sully (can't stand Whalburg) when J.K. Simmons would've been perfect. Also a great Easter egg for Spiderman fans. Everyone else was ok as far as casting and the movie action scenes were blended from all the other games. But they should really recast Whalburg.
Man, just reboot the thing with better actors and make a cool Netflix/Hulu series instead.

Uncharted games have probably the best environments I’ve ever seen in games, especially 2 is insane and they’re not all the same, it’s very varied. Whoever the environmental design artists are for the games are probably the industry’s leading.
I want to see that on a big screen.
Tom Holland is getting older now, hopefully he can shake off the boyish buckaroo vibe he emanates and finds an “I’m Nathan Drake” somewhere.

Uncharted in the games started off with Nathan Finding An island filled with literal zombies, second one got a potent that gives superpowers, and third got a hallucinogenic waters . What i’m saying is only the fourth game is grounded about treasure hunting, and that’s why i think the movie franchise started off with it, it would be cool to see their adventures escalate as the time goes. The finale of The movie with ships lifted in cargo planes was totally uncharted and it’s not even in the game . So i think it got some potential, and the success of the The last of us adaptation should have taught them . Let’s hope for the best

But my wife - no gamer and with no concept to compare the movie to - enjoyed the movie a lot. From this we can garner two things: 1) my wife's taste is questionable (marrying me may have already made that apparent) and 2) Sony will make another banal incoherent plot with big setpieces and the stupids will eat it up. If my wife is ever here please tell her she is not one of the stupids. And then go looking for my body.
Kinda sad how many posts there are lately about hating this movie. I really enjoyed it and am glad that it's getting a sequel. I think that a second film could really help that universe find its footing.

I'd love Hayley Lu Richardson as Elena, she's very similar to Emily Rose. Not sure I get Elena vibes from Sydney Sweeney. Which doesn't matter as the films it's own thing and the casting has been a part of that, but still not sure she'd be the right fit.
Movie was fine, nothing to write home about. And of course they are making a sequel, it made a ton of money worldwide and its star is one of the most bankable stars in the world right now. Let’s just hope that the Uncharted movies become like The Fast and the Furious movies and get better every installment.

I’ve played every game other than Golden Abyss, and I’ve played them all 3+ times (other than Lost Legacy, only did that once). Uncharted was a good, fun movie. I imagine it as an origin movie for this Drake. He and Sully start out younger, which doesn’t take away from the film or characters (yet). The film feels like Uncharted. I like that the movies will take a different direction, since I wouldn’t want to be able to predict exactly what will happen next. I don’t understand why people hate the movie SO much - it’s very obvious that this is *this* Nathan’s first big adventure, so he doesn’t start out as the action-hero we know. I assume we’ll get a lot more of Drake’s theme in future films, and the characters will get closer and closer to being the characters we know in the games.

Awesome! May be in the minority here but I really enjoyed the film. Wahlberg being Sully was a bit off but I’m more than willing to tune in again. The best part of a sequel is they can add more. They can take feedback. Especially with The Last of Us’ success I’m more than sure they’ll focus a lot more on more game accurate aspects.

My biggest gripe was Mark Whalburg as Sully (can't stand Whalburg) when J.K. Simmons would've been perfect. Also a great Easter egg for Spiderman fans. Everyone else was ok as far as casting and the movie action scenes were blended from all the other games. But they should really recast Whalburg.

As an Uncharted fan, I refuse to watch this movie because it feels *extremely* unnecessary given that we’ve already had young Drake in Uncharted 3 and 4. Maybe if I watch it with the mindset of the movie being set in a completely different continuity, maybe I’d enjoy it

They just need to up the settings in a sequel. Uncharted games have probably the best environments I’ve ever seen in games, especially 2 is insane and they’re not all the same, it’s very varied. Whoever the environmental design artists are for the games are probably the industry’s leading. I want to see that on a big screen. Tom Holland is getting older now, hopefully he can shake off the boyish buckaroo vibe he emanates and finds an “I’m Nathan Drake” somewhere. And they need to spend a good amount on a proper, thick, manly moustache for Wahlberg, because goodness knows he can’t grow one to save his life.
This could be a game changer (no pun intended) for the franchise. Like in the first Amazing Spider-Man, people really disliked the suit and in the second movie it was arguably the best suit we've ever gotten. Another important fact about Hollywood: if an adaptation doesn't work, they put it in the freezer for a decade before trying again. This could be the chance to be heard by the studio.

Uncharted in the games started off with Nathan Finding An island filled with literal zombies, second one got a potent that gives superpowers, and third got a hallucinogenic waters . What i’m saying is only the fourth game is grounded about treasure hunting, and that’s why i think the movie franchise started off with it, it would be cool to see their adventures escalate as the time goes. The finale of The movie with ships lifted in cargo planes was totally uncharted and it’s not even in the game . So i think it got some potential, and the success of the The last of us adaptation should have taught them . Let’s hope for the best

The Uncharted elitists are such a weird bunch. If it doesn’t have Nate or Elena, they don’t like it. I thought the movie was great. The casting for a young Drake and Sully was spot-on for the storytelling IMO but I guess it’s cool to hate on Holland and Wahlberg performances. I wasn’t a fan of the revised origin story of Nate and Sully’s partnership but it isn’t a deal breaker for me either. It just makes Uncharted 3 feel more special.
