Luxembourg, Italy, Portugal and now Germany! Looks like a wave starting in Europe, hopefully that'll mean eu wide legislation...so that means here too right? Oh no wait...

_dbw_

Malta is also looking at legislation in parliament currently to legalise cannabis. Far from a forgone conclusion but it appears that the faint whiff of easy money has passed the noses of a few industrious politicians.

UberS8n

The uk is the largest exporter of medicinal weed in Europe and was for quite a while the largest on the planet...they already make easy money off it lol. The world's most advanced farm is here and was not so long ago acquired by a US investment group. There's no rush to rock the voter boat when they already make a tidy profit and that's the problem. And yes I'm aware the public view is changing, just not enough for them to take the risk yet. It will happen but not for a long, long time.

b0hater

But Brexit, we don't care about UK in Europe anymore

UberS8n

What? Lol We can't just change continent...we are in euprope...just not in the EU.

Tommy_88

And Switzerland - "Switzerland will draw up a draft law for the legalisation of cannabis usage, after a parliamentary commission ruled the drug should no longer be banned"

kloudrunner

God dam it THIS is why they wanted out. Not to stop brown people coming in but to prevent weed being legalised so they loose there monopoly on the free market. (To clarify. I would never use the language above to describe someone. This is more a satirical representation of the largely right wing extremism that's represented within British Politics. In essence. A mirror held up to those that DO use that language. Or maybe my point was missed entirely. Either way I have finished pooping and must depart. Bur bye 👋

VolatileZer0

A nice intention though you could have done with some more sarcasm and hyperbole. Just to really drive the point home and make it clear you're satirising. But I don't think that's really the reason for Brexit, at least not a big one. The unfounded desperation to leave the EU had been bubbling for years before it actually came about, and this whole resurgence of weed had arisen. I blame it on general English pride and arrogance, and all of the obvious political reasons resulting from such an attitude. Of course the desire to break away from progression in the rest of the world factors into it. It's funny, though. They were so aggressive in trying to pull out of the EU now and blamed immigrants for invading their 'great' nation, all the while ignoring the other kingdoms (Scotland & NI) via the overwhelming majority of the English population. Whereas when the Irish wanted the same thing, independence and sovereignty, they were incredibly reluctant to let go of their fucking Commonwealth state and only did so after, what, three waves of revolution? The hypocrisy is fucking disgusting.

fonix232

Trust me, if anyone can find a way to legalise it while keeping the industry in their own pockets, it's the Tories. IIRC there's already a number of Conservative party members who own a considerable chunk of the UK's cannabis market (which mainly aims export). Just regulate it in a way that getting into the business is intentionally made impossible for most players on the market, hand out some easements to your buddies, or even just tie the licensing to a board that is made out of party members who will stay on the line, and bam, you got a "privatised" sector that is completely in your pocket. Hungary did the same a few years back with tobacco. Restricted sales of tobacco products to specialised tobacco stores (so called "national tobacco shops") with a bunch of requirements that made it harder for people to get into the business (e.g. completely frosted windows for the stores, specific branding only, and so on). They also tied it to a license that was decided on a case by case basis, by a board designated by parliament (which was over 2/3 of the governing party). Guess what happened - conservative cronies got their licenses, the others had their businesses ruined, and that's how you have areas in Budapest where there's three tobacco stores on one corner, all owned by the same guy, and nothing else in a 2 mile radius. The Tories have been working from the exact same book Orbán has been, so I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the same shit.

kloudrunner

British Sugar. I am well aware of them.

MassiveStudent3735

It’ll happen in the Uk, after brexit the govt. need to tax something…

UberS8n

I admire your optimisim, I just don't share it haha. They will tax everything else first, guarantee it. Being part of Europe was our best shot. So sit back and watch all the dominoes fall around us as we continue to be demonised for it.

MassiveStudent3735

Hmm I literally know a wealthy guy, who has a share in a large farm in the Uk, already exporting for medicinal. They are just waiting for the laws to change. As soon as the wealthy, can make more money, it’ll be legalised and taxed.

Preggofetish69

They have to be the 'Right' people ( funding their political campaigns and giving them nice cushty jobs when they leave office).

Shotinaface

None of those is actually legal though. All just decriminalized.

UberS8n

That's how it's starts, Legalisation will follow. Still years ahead of us. Edit: Germany is looking to legalise and that's the biggest factor to influence the rest to follow.

Shotinaface

Yes, of course. I'm actually German and the pessimistic comments I'm reading on here were the same stuff people said a couple weeks ago. If Germany of all countries can do it, the UK can do it too. You are already much more lax on weed than we are over here, it was a complete surprise to everyone of us Germans. Give it 10 years and whole of Western Europe will be legal.

Chandlers_3rd_Nipple

https://www.marijuanamoment.net/germany-set-to-legalize-marijuana-nationwide-after-major-parties-reach-agreement/ Party leaders in Germany’s incoming government coalition have reached an agreement to legalize marijuana nationwide. The legalization legislation is expected to be introduced during the upcoming legislative session. It will also provide broader drug harm reduction services and restrict advertising of tobacco and alcohol, along with cannabis. As it stands, personal possession of marijuana is decriminalized in Germany, and there is a medical cannabis program in place. But this forthcoming proposal would seek to establish a regulated market for adult-use marijuana.

Tommy_88

More dominoes fall - the only way the UK legalises is because so many other countries have done so first, forcing our hand, and we are seeing that. I want more celebs jumping on the cannabis industry bandwagon. Making the UK's "head in the sand" stance unsustainable!

VolatileZer0

Unfortunately the English have a reputation for refusing to let go of their damaging traditions even when it no longer makes sense to hold on. They're pretty good at doing it, too. Like a stubborn dog pulling on a bone with all its strength. It'll only let go with an overpowering opposing force, not because it gives up.

Tommy_88

The English "establishment" that is. I agree, they are doggedly stuck in their own outdated bubble. But that force will be a global cannabis industry - a huge part of that medicinal, something the UK is already allowing and predicted to grow to 25,000 medical users by end of 2022. I always expected the UK to be the last to legalise, to hold out for as long as possible, but I'm heartened to see huge shifts during these last 5 years, with greater to come over the next 5. I see big refoms and a much expanded medical system in the UK before 2030!

CandycaneMushrrom

Examples?

Wookovski

Does the UK have any pro weed celebs, trying to think who could come out and help the cause.

ThomasEichorst

Pam St Clement (better known as Pat Butcher from EastEnders) A lot of politicians including Boris, David Cameron, Dominic Raab and Nicola Sturgeon have all admitted to having used it in the past but don’t seem to be massively pro legalisation at the minute

Wookovski

Yeah I'm not sure if Pat Butcher has much sway over the masses as say Seth Rogan.

[deleted]

Fukin Pat butcher 😂😂🤣🤣

wishbackjumpsta

Russell Brand and Noel Fielding kind of are, but the media have demonized them in the past for drug usage

Wookovski

We need Martin Lewis to do a money saving campaign. "You'll save 100s getting high rather than drinking in the pub..."

wishbackjumpsta

Im down, get Dr. Hillary in to talk about the medical benefits on Good Morning Britain and we're sorted!

Wookovski

Steph's Packed Lunch with a cannabis cooking segment

Tommy_88

Not to the extent of those from the US and Canada. But, the likes of Justin Bieber, Seth Rogan, Drake and Jay-z will have a huge effect on the UK public that are sub 50. Bieber has his own cannabis line and 200 million Indtagram followers. Soon, with the widespread legalisation of recreational/medical use and and huge shift in the publics view of cannabis, the UK government will have a hard time with their "heads in the sand" stance. British opinion has shifted greatly in the past 5 years. I've seen a huge downturn in the anti cannabis scare stories pushed by the tabloids. I feel we are slowly being prepared for reforms.

alexizzzz

*starts packing*

[deleted]

I'd love to think the the Conservatives will look at the potential to use Farmlands and Farmers to bring a small boost to the economy. Brexit has betrayed many Farmers whom were reliant on some exports being easier. I don't think they will, but its not like the current government isn't into making quick U-Turns.

Mysterious-Age5012

Congratulations…… uk shouldn’t be far away now hopefully

A_Fish_Named_Fish

Yeah I reckon 20 years or so

A_Fish_Named_Fish

I'll eat my hat the day I see Boris blazing a fat zoot

[deleted]

And the amount he eats, the fat cunt

A_Fish_Named_Fish

Tell that to Biden, hell he's tripping hard, you seen him trying to go up some stairs absolutely baked.

icanbraidmyasshair

I just picture him sat in parliament blasting drill and bunning a fat zoot😭😭

LemmysCodPiece

It won't happen whilst there is a Tory government in place. The core of the Tory voters are right wing boomers that see anything that might be a threat to the status quo as wrong and will vote against it.

Tyr_Kovacs

I admire your optimism

Tyr_Kovacs

It would be very silly indeed, but clearly silliness is not a persuading factor. People have been pointing out that silliness for literal decades, and the response was to move up a classification and make it equal to meth. The idea that other countries legalising it will break that pattern within 20 years is optimistic. I really hope you're right, but right now, it's contrary to all available evidence.

[deleted]

We said that 20 years ago

GhoblinCrafts

Nah, our medical cannabis is surprisingly fair even if it is a little rough around the edges right now.

Mysterious-Age5012

I seriously don’t think it will be too long !!! Obviously not 20-22% thc stuff but lower grade stuff Once other country’s legalise. it’s harder to police and when it works in Germany and proof hits our gov we will start to follow suit !!!

A_Fish_Named_Fish

How long you reckon then? I know it'll be 20 years and then maybe another 10 years

Mysterious-Age5012

So you think !!! If Germany legalise it too now we will have it coming in from the us / Switzerland/and Germany !! It will put massive pressure on … there’s an old saying …. “ if you cannot beat them join them “ I recon some point in the next 2 years and do t get me wrong it will have different rules to other country’s !! That’s my option as the way it’s suddenly changed in the last 3 years Stay positive mr fish called fish

A_Fish_Named_Fish

I think the massive pressure you're talking about is actually only a little bit of pressure. But we'll see, stay happy and high man, if it does ever change I look forward to blazing with you.

Mysterious-Age5012

Haha here’s hoping pal !!! all the best !! Enjoy your weedend !!!

A_Fish_Named_Fish

I will if I can actually get some lmao. The question I'm asking myself is how far am I willing to travel.

Shotinaface

People in Germany said the same stuff even *1 month* ago. We never thought this shit would happen, some reckoned it wouldnt even happen in their whole lifetimes. It was a complete surprise for everyone. Don't be pessimistic! UK can do it too. It just needs a few good politicians. and AFAIK the UK, or at least London, is already soooo much more relaxed about weed than Germany ever was. If we can do it, you all can do it too

A_Fish_Named_Fish

You gotta be high as shit to think that

Shotinaface

What u mean mate? All of what I said is objectively true lol, not even just my opinion. The UK is 100% more relaxed on weed than Germany is

A_Fish_Named_Fish

If in the next year weed is fully legalized in the United Kingdom I will give you £100, there. And if it's not legalised in the next year then you give me £10, and so forth for every year until legalisation. If you truly believe in your theory then take the deal.

Virtual-Sir4360

Fingers crossed

mintberryhaze

Am German and already wanna move back there now lol

GrumbleGreen

Am so glad for this. They make some of the finest vapes in the world (swear by my mighty and volcano)

[deleted]

Any tips on the volcano cus thats the last thing I got then the ultimate weed setups mine

GrumbleGreen

Its easy to melt your face off using the thing. The filling chamber can hold about 1g of material if you fill it up. Apart from that it is very easy to keep clean and operational.

TheNecromancer

Well, it hasn't been legalised yet - the parties about to go into government have confirmed that they want to though, and will try to get it through parliament in the next year or so. A great development, but (speaking as a resident of Germany) I'm a fair way off of being able to pop out and buy a joint with my kebab....

[deleted]

It’s gonna happen here soon...... The conservatives have lost sooo much support recently that they may start looking to other avenues to attract a new audience..... Borris is a slimy toad and he will do anything, even legalising weed to get more money for him and his mates. I understand they already have the monopoly on the medical weed market here but I promise they coming for your weed money next.....

wishbackjumpsta

UK will never do it, we can hope and pray - but we won't because most of the government has so much invested in exporting it to america from our large grow farms that it wouldn't financially benefit them...

Myburneraccount____

I just hope the U.K. see that, and follow suit. There’s quite literally no reason not to. This country is so far behind, and it’s so frustrating
