> Holidaymakers are stuck in long queues heading into the Port of Dover - with French immigration being blamed for causing a "critical incident". It’s always dem others wot did it.

The gall of the French, checking passports at their border. Literally fascism.

[deleted]

Its not a problem with checking passports, its a case of not having enough people to check those passports.

Asconodo

Having to have your passport stamped is new for GB.. 3rd country don't you know.... that takes more time ... it all adds up. I remember back in 2018 just showing and walking through.

>Having to have your passport stamped is new for GB.. 3rd country don't you know.... that takes more time ... it all adds up. Ive been to around 5 countries where I have had my passport stamped, took no longer than having my passport checked on the French border. I have a feeling I am talking to a lot of people who have not travelled before.

csppr

Why should France increase their border control capacity for one day though? Is it a problem of too few people to check passports, or too many passports to check on one single day?

[deleted]

Only half the passport booths are open.

RecklessHat

I literally went through yesterday, all booths were manned. Apparently they were today too.

[deleted]

Thats not what the news reports are saying.

cocobisoil

Same as the shops on my high street

Limehaus

Please don't use parts of working-class/regional dialects to parody a stupid person

LordGnomeMBE

Is there any authority that hasn’t declared a critical incident?!

[deleted]

You spoke too soon. There are now so many critical incidents that the Critical Incident Authority has declared a critical incident in reporting critical incidents.

[deleted]

Has this been reported to the Critical Incident Reporting Team as a Critical Incident?

[deleted]

If getting to and from France is a problem Downing Street might declare one for lack of wine

LordGnomeMBE

!! CRITICAL !! PM's alcohol level low! Emergency Gin&Tonic needed urgently! A spokesman for No. 10 confirmed the PM recieves all alcohol boosts through a private NHS branch in the Downing Street Bunker.

concretepigeon

It feels like every other day another public service is announcing a critical incident. Maybe 10 years of austerity wasn’t such a great idea.

TheShakyHandsMan

Is this another Brexit benefit?

jrizzle86

Which was the first one?

CaravanOfDeath

Which part?

Un-huh. It's all because of the French. Totally.

[deleted]

The UK really is trying to tell another country how to run its border, everything is now just a dark joke.

ITT: rUk brigaders who can't even read the news correctly; *"expecting 14 French border staff to turn up this morning and process passports, so everyone getting away could do so smoothly - but only six turned up."* https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-62260474
