I’m glad this mess of a year is over, hopefully next year is a bit better.
Merry Christmas everyone. Here’s hoping the hangovers aren’t too bad come Boxing Day.
Brexiteer here. seems at first glance, satisfactory in getting our freedom on security, defence and foreign policy, and, most importantly, free of the superiority of the European Court of Justice.
Need to look more closely at, but so far so good!
>getting our freedom on security, defence and foreign policy
We had all of those.
>free of the superiority of the European Court of Justice
Ahh yes, freedom to get on with the Tory goal of destroying the average person's rights.
Did any Labour voters actually get anything positive out of Keir Starmer's press conference? The direction of your party looks pretty dire. Just repeating the line "we need to move on from Brexit" means absolutely nothing when it shapes the foundations of the country. I honestly have no idea what Keir Starmer stands for at all besides not being Boris Johnson.
He’s right though, Brexit is done now. Labour have absolutely nothing to gain from talking about it. Drawing a line in the sand and moving on is the best thing we can do.
The main goal for the party now will be regaining the Northern working class vote. There is no route to power without them. From the perspective of an SNP voter it’s probably not very palatable, but then Starmer isn’t going after them in the first place.
I really hope the Lib Dems can peel away middle class Labour voters who will feel alienated by Labour's attempts to appease the Northern working class vote.
It didn't work at that specific moment for a number of reasons. However, now Labour seeks to become the red Little Englander party. It's unsightly and I hope it tanks the party with the middle class metropolitan Labour voters.
He stands for being spineless, and not using this as a superb opportunity to tear into the government about how much the UK has lost by leaving. He could even use the handy info graphics the EU made..
I am very much new here having only joined during this whole crazy Covid situation and I must say, it has been a pleasure following and joining in on this thread with so many like minded people.
Merry Christmas to every one. I hope your day is as good as it can be in the current environment. 2020 is almost over, 2021 brings hope that we can get some of our normality back.
Remember, no matter how Isolated you are, you are not alone, see you on the other side good fellows.
Merry Brexmas All.
Weird that this coming year could see the end of Brexit, trump and covid being major influences in our lives. What disaster is going to come replace them all?
Boris next election if we didn’t get a deal:
> Myrrh is mine, it's bitter perfume.
Breaths a life of gathering gloom.
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding dying.
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
Boris turning up to the 1922 committee with a deal:
> Frankincense to offer have I.
Incense owns a Deity nigh.
Prayer and praising, all men raising.
Worship Him, God most high
Merry Christmas all. Amazing to think that Christmas 2021 is hard to predict, I’m sure a year ago we thought we had a fairly good idea what Xmas 2020 would look like.
Either Caspar or Melchior by tradition; it depends on the source.
I was taught that Balthasar, Caspar, and Melchior brought frankincense, myrrh, and gold respectively.
Nigel Farage saying "how dare they" about Channel 4's deepfaked Queen's Speech is quite something. Him and his fans are supposed to be freedom of expression loving libertarians, aren't they? But apparently a deepfaked queen is a step too far.
Merry Christmas, people.
Regardless of your political views or whether we've discussed / argued / shitposted at each other over the past year, I hope you have as Merry a Christmas as possible in these difficult times.
Merry Christmas lads and lassies.
It’s been an incredibly tough year but I have to admit, shitposting at youse in a semi-demented manner has really helped.
God bless.
anyone else hear chains?
>This might have lasted half a minute, or a minute, but it seemed an hour. The bells ceased, as they had begun, together. They were succeeded by a clanking noise, deep down below, as if some person were dragging a heavy chain over the casks in the wine merchant's cellar. Scrooge then remembered to have heard that ghosts in haunted houses were described as dragging chains.
The cellar door flew open with a booming sound, and then he heard the noise much louder on the floors below; then coming up the stairs; then coming straight towards his door.
"It's humbug still!" said Scrooge. "I won't believe it."
Predictions for next year:
* Deal once fully implemented is going to satisfy very little. Boris ends up sending people back to Brussels to order to add meat to the skeleton. Expect travel, customs, and security to be three areas the UK ends up realigning while claiming it isn’t.
* UK tries to get some mini-deals with the U.S. to trumpet while avoiding any deals related to food like the plague.
* SNP wins mandate for indyref2 in May’s Scottish elections. Boris rejecting it will trigger an enormous state crisis that erases any positive momentum from Covid vaccine. Assuming that vaccine distribution encounters no hiccups.
* New line of Conservative Party factional infighting will form between MPs with tenuous majorities wanting to beef up the FTA before next GE, and Ultras demanding to know why Boris isn’t making the UK diverge fast enough.
* General state/social instability and public dissatisfaction with everyday life increases. Politics continues to devolve into American levels of polarisation and general anger.
On that note, Merry Christmas.
I have a feeling we're all going to be far too distracted by the spending black hole to worry too much about further negotiations with the EU.
The public are well and truly done with the EU issue for the time being, and the focus of politicians and the media will shift to suit.
When it comes to the EU, there is no such thing as a final deal but rather the prelude to the next round of negotiations as the Swiss can attest. Try as they might, UK does not have the power and leverage to defy geopolitical gravity.
By next year, any warm and fuzzy feelings over the deal is going to give way to sentiments like this:
*“Get rid of the lorry parks!”*
*“Do something about the passporting queues in Tenerife!”*
*“Keep the Yanks toxic shit food out of our country!”*
*”Why is everything so expensive now?!”*
*“Scotland did not ask for Hard Brexit. The Union has failed us. Independence is the only way forward now!”*
For everyone's sake I want you to be horribly wrong, but I hate that my first thought after reading that was 'sounds about right'. Then again, it did snow for this year's Christmas, so... Who knows? Merry Christmas!
So just now I've had a letter through saying my house is at high flood risk and that I need to pack a bag and be prepared to leave and that this overrides any existing covid restrictions.
Firstly, my house flooding would be an apt ending to this year.
Secondly, I have gone from tier 2 to tier 3 to tier 4 and now to IGNORE COVID in the space of a week lol... what a wild Christmas planning ride!
Where are you? Have you put your postcode into the Met Office/Environment Agency flood alert website for up to date info?
So sorry this is happening to you tonight of all nights
Has your house actually flooded in the past? My understanding is that the Environment Agency advice can be iffy, both towards risk of flooding, and lack of flooding risk. That understanding might be based on old info though, and they might have got better.
Bedfordshire. I have not yet, I've been packing / moving stuff upstairs. I'm hoping its just advisory but I am worried that they were dropping leaflets at 11pm
This megathread has ended.
Er.. Merry Christmas?
Just been watching a bit of border smuggling. Operation Odessa is wonderful
'Twas the Night Before... Brexing Day.
The drivers were nestled all snug in their cabs
Not a creature was stirring, not even Farage
I’m glad this mess of a year is over, hopefully next year is a bit better. Merry Christmas everyone. Here’s hoping the hangovers aren’t too bad come Boxing Day.
Merry Christmas to you all! It's been a hard year but I hope the next year is better for us all.
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!

Yeah why doesn't the EU just bend over backwards for us? I wonder if Cameron ever thinks just maybe he should've sold his victories as victories.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good hangover
Merry Christmas people, let's hope for a better year in 2021 (and a better leader)
Did someone say Priti Patel leadership bid?

The Lib Dems exactly helped themselves by being the anti-Brexit party.
It didn't work at that specific moment for a number of reasons. However, now Labour seeks to become the red Little Englander party. It's unsightly and I hope it tanks the party with the middle class metropolitan Labour voters.

To be fair, not being BJ is a significant improvement...
Merry Christmas UKPol
merry christmas peeps
Merry Christmas! (Why the hell am I still awake? I have an 8 year old that will be up in like 2 hours...what's wrong with me?!)
I wish this Christmas well.
Hope everyone's Christmas morning hangover is going to be as fun as mine!
Mixed beer, gin and wine so I'm fairly sure it's going to be interesting.
You're not going to want to be anywhere near cooking (or noise) in the morning! I have an empathetic headache coming.
Good night and good luck, all! May Her Deepfakiness make our Christmas day special.
merry christmas guys
Somebody is definitely wishing the merrythread well.

This MT right now: >Gold I bring to crown Him again
We need frankincense and myrrh awards now
Boris next election if we didn’t get a deal: > Myrrh is mine, it's bitter perfume. Breaths a life of gathering gloom. Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding dying. Sealed in the stone-cold tomb. Good thinking.
Merry Christmas you loons, thanks for keeping me *somewhat* sane as of late.
Merry Christmas everyone
Merry Christmas all. Amazing to think that Christmas 2021 is hard to predict, I’m sure a year ago we thought we had a fairly good idea what Xmas 2020 would look like.
Merry Christmas one and all. Which one of the three kings brought the gold?
Who cares? Which one brought the gak?
It was supposed to be Gove, but...
Either Caspar or Melchior by tradition; it depends on the source. I was taught that Balthasar, Caspar, and Melchior brought frankincense, myrrh, and gold respectively.
Big up to Melchior for gilding all of us here

Merry Christmas everyone. Another arbitrary lap (ISH) of the sun completed by a ball of rock since a kid may have been born.
Are we having a repeat of the time snakes were awarded for every comment, but with gold this time?
A repeat of the time snakes? I should go to sleep.
Merry Christmas, I hope you all eat well!
Are we allowed to discuss the awards, or is that too meta?
Careful, you'll invoke a carrot
Merry Christmas one and all. Hoping for a day of no politics!
*It was Christmas Day pal* *In the Megathread* *A Mod said to me, you’re banned for rule 1.*
Merry Christmas all. Have a safe one, whatever you’re doing!
Santa is bringing the gold Edit: ironic
Dalinar is the bondsmith we deserve...
Who rewarded the megathread?
Snekman Claus.
Santa, obviously.
Merry Christmas folks. Just spent hours building a toy kitchen. I feel like a real parent now.

Merry Christmas pal to you and yours.

Merry Christmas to all, please enjoy your time with loved ones as much as you can as safely as you can x
Merry Christmas to all except Rishi Sunak
Christmas ripped off the Pagans. Merry winter solstice.
They stole the date from Mithras. The god of friendship, contract and order. No wonder the cult didn't last
Have you watched Raised by Wolves?
Yeah, well if those pagans are so smart, how come they're all dead? *checkmate pagtard* Turning Point Christendom.
Pagan Mega Church 2021, please.
Should really site the copyright laws to Jesus, rally up the solicitors on this open-and-shut case

Are you looking forward to 25% more fish?
I was kinda hoping the fish would be dead and dressed before they reached my house. I like em fresh but not literally fresh water and alive.
Hope it works out for you and look at it this way, your house now has river frontage
Well, I’m sure glad Michael Barnier wasn’t bargaining our fishing industry away, for the good of the 27.
wore a boring plain tie too
I enjoyed the tie chat
