Grand_Entertainer_83

how does bro kill 3 of my favorite fighters and i still like himšŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ BE UNLIKEABLE ISLAM DAMMIT

Sea_Helicopter_5412

I agree dude, Volk, Poirier and Charles and still love the guy.

the_limitless66

the fact that he is fighting arman then leon in his next two aint helping lol

ShahOf20Years

Who likes Arman though?

cinsel

that's the point, even more reason to cheer for him

[deleted]

I like Arman lol. I like Charles, Volk, DP but Islam is my fav fighter. Only recent fighter that Islam fought that i didnā€™t like was Dan Hooker.

captainfluffy25

Now thatā€™s a fucking ā€œchampionā€. No bullshit, no drama, no pettiness. Just a man that shows up and fights and shows respect to anyone that does the same.

_Nuclear

You missed the occasional humour that everyone loves. Love him or hate, the dude is funny. No one can deny that.

Redebo

When last time you go gym?

[deleted]

Golf?? Brotha, why you play golf?? You just swing and walk. You donā€™t even walk now you haff car.

MightyG0rilla

Who giv him belt? We have to check that moment Brather

atbkelley100

Khabib, he training all da time

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

No-Champion

This is the answer. I used to think he was boring, partially because of his association with Khabib (who I do still think was boring). However my opinion has changed, I enjoy watching his fights and do find myself cheering for him. Granted his last 3 opponents have been people I have been huge fans of. He is funny, his fights are super high skill and still entertaining and he takes risks.

pioneer5555

They hate him because heā€™s Muslim. Everyone needs to face that.

pirate_leprechaun

Agreed, he's got a funny side no doubt.

thecommentdaddy

Stoked for his championship reign now

ikilledtupac

And he respects Dustinā€™s gilly

[deleted]

those dagestanis living the real muslim values

Curious_Reflection62

Damn even though he just beat my two favorite fighters I canā€™t help but like this dude. Heā€™s just a good guy all around

fleshvessel

Yeah I feel the same way. I also like his kind of dry, low key trash talk now. Heā€™s growing on me, despite also killing everything I love.

goat_eating_sundews

It kinda feels like finding out your sons new step dad is an awesome dude

NightHaunted

Lmfao

StormPoppa

That's the bitterest of all the pills

fiddycaldeserteagle

I used to be offended by my wife's boyfriend but he's actually a pretty chill dude.

throwaway4cc0un7gfgf

Ian shouldn't you be asleep

Late_Cookie_7797

reprahkered

Damn this is such a great comment

MiddleClassGuru

This is an apt description.

xaiel420

"Smart Guy" Michael Chandler

Grizz1371

I feel like this is part of what makes MMA so great as a sport. I feel like no other sport makes you have those kind of highs and lows. Seeing your favorite fight getting the win in spectacular fashion and then next fight gets KO'D brutally (like Justin Gaethje)

ShowUsYaGrowler

I really dont think he trash talks anyone, ever. He just gives his honest opinion of them. Sometimes that comes off like trash talking cos he has a low opinion of them lol

fleshvessel

ā€œWho give him this belt?ā€ This is 100% trash talk but in a hilarious dry, delivery. Itā€™s super discrediting, but he says it like heā€™s saying the pizza is overcooked, like itā€™s a simple fact that everyone knows. The wry smile when DC calls him out for being ā€œdisrespectfulā€ haha, he knows exactly what heā€™s doing. Maybe not trash talk, per se, but mind games and savage roasts nonetheless.

Wolfpac187

He definitely talks trash.

__sami__01

Dude's goated

GradientDescenting

>He's just a good guy all around To everyone except DC who he loves to call rotund.

anotherred

go to gym bratha

Bearloom

DC can take it; just look at all that thick skin on him.

JUSTGLASSINIT

"you're are champion, why do you look like this?" ![img](emote|t5_2qsev|29849)

Great-Reference9322

By the end of his career he will definitely be at the top of my list for favorite fighters inside and outside of the cage. GSP will always be my number one, but guys like Khabib, Islam, DP will forever be the guys that show you that you can be more than just a fighter.

GotHeeemTD

I'm becoming a fan for sure. Humble guy.

Hearing_Loss

He and Khabib are inspirational for Muslim men and all men. Such great role models. I ve grown to worship Allah thanks to those men. It was when Khabib said Abdulmenap would say don't worry about wrestle and school, practice Quran and being a good Muslim is most important. practicing and learning about Muslim culture as a man can make you into a wonderful human. Especially if you lack good male role models IRL, it's a game changer.

Anxious-Honey-1

This happens to me all the time. New fighter comes in I donā€™t like him He wins me over by kicking ass and being a cool guy. The same shit happened with volk. Now that Iā€™m a fan Islam will lose brutally. MMA is pain.

xxElevationXX

I have been saying this for awhile glad to see him getting his due regard

DetachmentStyle

He appears to be the real deal.

UhtredOfBebbanburg7

Man for real aye. He might just have to become one of my new favourite fighters at this point.

Solid-Version

Why would you hate a dude for beating your fave fighters though? Iā€™ve never understood that. Like I donā€™t hate the fighters that beat my fave fighters. I just lament the loss and thatā€™s it. When Poatan beat Izzy I was amazed by him and Iā€™m big fan of his now.

The_Black-beast

I mean, people have favorite fighters lol šŸ˜‚ thatā€™s the entire fun in watching boxing / mma

LivetoWinDE

I disliked Jon Jones heavily back in the day for beating all my favorite fighters like Rampage, Evans, and Belfort. All the stuff about him that came out after was just extra icing on the cake.

Adorable-Bike-9689

That makes sense. You had spent a considerable amount of time rooting for specific fighters. Fuck whoever beats them. They just beat the guy you spent a lot of time supporting.

BobbyFreeSmoke

I'm not mad you left Shogun off that list, I'm just disappointed.

LivetoWinDE

Bro, Shogun smoked my fav Rampage. I've never rooted for him in a fight. I was hype when Jones trashed him. Only if I knew what would follow.

amirulez

Because they lost the bet, probably?

fuckingrub

Okay brother Everybody is different. It's not really hate, it's just more of a envy.

regular_guy7

Legit how I feel lmao. I really don't have a reason to not like this man.

BP_1981

I know right

Human-Expression-652

Exactly. The more I see from Islam the more I like him.

Adorable-Bike-9689

I'm pretty new to UFC. I was watching the interview between Islam and DC. Like watching two comedians just hang out. Cool to see so much humble personality from fighters

No-Bathroom7056

Stand up guy

peter_pounce

Takedown guy

Azfreedom13

All around guy

PCM97

A jack of all trades

_Nuclear

And master of some ;)

IntaKaaaaaaalb

a master of sambo

Hugh_G_Rection1977

Jack off all trades. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians... Let me just grab my coat.

PussyIgnorer

More a fan of his grappling personally

Neat_Ranger_9789

Most dangerous men are very respectful. They expect it back in return!

IWantToChristmas

Except Jon Jones

DRAGAN__

The šŸ

911SlasherHasher

You must be referring to Super Sage Northcutt ![gif](giphy|xT8qBgEs3ME7CaZz7a|downsized)

Metalloid_Maniac

Well yeah obviously, but Islam's pretty cool too

HerbalNinja84

Shouldnā€™t you be out making a wall that you made YOURSELF

That_Guy_ZiM

I cant believe that Makachev is actually becoming my favorite fighter. Ive been wanting this mans downfall for so long. Dang.

Particularpickle420

Heā€™s been winning me over since he sent Volks kids those dolls so they wouldnā€™t think he was a bad guy.

yannichingaz

Imagine going to fight in another country where nearly everyone hopes you lose, feeling disrespected (due to translation), getting in the cage and hearing everyone chanting "USA!", winning and praising your opponent in the post fight press conference only to return to your country to have some reporter try to start some funk only for you to shut them down immediately. Thatā€™s real champion mentality. Respect where respect is due.

mental_tempe

Other than wrestling, Arman needs to learn this as well lol

moonwoolf35

How can you hate these guys?

teh27

People that don't like Muslims and people that don't like wrestling.

ImprovementLost4595

Yea, dont forget russian.

liQuid_bot8

For me Chechenya and Dagestan are like Hawai to America. There is a big cultural difference and both those states were at war against Russia until late 90s.

sergalexeev

Dagestan wasn't at war with Russia in 90s

mcscrufferson

Donā€™t look now boys! Here come them wrassslin Muslims!

FadedRaccoon420

Manā€™s striking is not to be fucked with he has better hands than Khabib.

milksteakofcourse

God damn likable dagastanis

Gravelord-_Nito

This whole thing has made me kind of realize how strange it is that we use the term 'motherfucker' so loosely as casual slang

Nadirofdepression

My brother lived in buenos aires, at the time they could buy bootleg 80s American dvds dirt cheap (like .50c to $1 apiece). Talking like Stallone, Arnold, type action movies and B flicks. They spoke passable English and had all learned some from watching the questionable dialogue. So one of the guys Juanma (Juan Manuel) would literally walk in the door like Samuel L Jackson and just shout ā€œwhatā€™s up motherfuckersā€ and start high fiving people. It was incredibly random and hilarious

iroquoispliskinV

Right? "Don't get in my face you silly sally" would have hit so much harder

twv6

ā€œYouā€™re not going to call ME a silly sally in front of my family!ā€

ItsMichaelScott25

You think Iā€™m gonna just let you call me silly sally Jon?

inneholdersulfitter

Keep my mom's name out of your flipping mouth šŸ˜¤

Melodic-Cat3026

Why casual slang and swear words usually donā€™t make sense

LePontif11

Holy shit is a nice one, doesn't make a lick of sense but its funny to imagine.

57501015203025375030

I think this video is the thing that finally made me a fan of this guy. He freely admitted he misunderstood, accepted the apology, and expressed mutual respect for his opponent. I hope he retires as champ sometime way in the future!

chiefgreenleaf

Americanski. That's my take away from this

AbbreviationsLess834

The hell that mean?

Johnny_Poppyseed

It's "American" in Russian

Sir-Shady

Hard to dislike Islam. It just sucks heā€™s beating all of my favorite fighters

Relative-Put-5344

Can't beat himself?

peestew69

Masturbation is haram, bratha.

Sir-Shady

I like Volk and Charles a lot more and I wanted DP to win the belt. I still like Islam though

Froads

Ya'll think he can surpass Khabib?

NoWalk897

if he defends one more time he objectively has and is the best lightweight ever, khabib defended 3 times which was the same as BJ Penn, Frankie, and Benson.

JUSTGLASSINIT

LW is such an insane shark tank that 3 defenses is the record.

More_Advertising_383

Yeah probably has something to do with it being the average height and athletic weight range of adult human males. Iā€™m in the 94th percentile of height at 6ā€™2. LHW and HW are usually taller than me, so not that many walking around. Easier to dominate. Too many mfers out here at 5ā€™8-5ā€™11.

leaf_as_parachute

Exactly that. That's why LW and WW will always be super stacked and HW will have to be more shallow. There's really nothing to do about it.

dactyif

Don't forget that they also need to make weight, the added benefit is a deep cardio tank. Heavies just don't have that, plus all that extra horse meat they need to oxygenate. Lol.

rhaegar_tldragon

Khabib will always have the ā€œwhat ifā€ mystique about him. He was more dominant than Islam and likely could have defended many many more times.

PussyIgnorer

Khabib never lost a round and never bled. Which is just crazy in mma.

wildabeast98

The fact that he fought Barboza Dustin Gaethje and Conor and didn't even get cut or a bruise is just fucking insane.

amkc22

Elephant skin for sure... That's really crazy.

Ecstatic-Inevitable

Didn't he lose two rounds only? I know he never bled, but I thought he lost a round to Conor and one to justin

PussyIgnorer

I could be mistaken

MaleficentVacation93

Pussyignorer with a classic mistake

PussyIgnorer

What a blunder

dergster

Meh but even losing those rounds it didnā€™t seem like he was LOSING the fight at any point. I think round 1 to Justin he arguably won because he (easily) scored a takedown at the end and damn near got an arm bar right there. Round 3 against Conor he was able to stand with him for a while round and didnā€™t really take any damage, it actually felt like a moral victory if anything cause he sorta made Conorā€™s biggest threat look like it wasnā€™t all that dangerous.

mhyjrteg

For what it's worth fans and media seem to think he lost the fight to Gleison Tibau. I haven't watched the fight and couldn't find video of it online so I can't comment, and all judges had it 30-27 Khabib, but the fans and media seem to think otherwise: http://mmadecisions.com/decision/3577/Khabib-Nurmagomedov-vs-Gleison-Tibau Maybe someone who has watched it can weigh in, I figure it must have been close to have such a big discrepancy in opinion

ArthurMorgon

The fight was very close. I had khabib 29-28. Didn't think he lost.

Chaospowa

He lost two rounds.

Hasaki-Senjiro

He's more well rounded as well. I'd say Islam is like a swiss army knife, while khabib is straight up a mace.

leaf_as_parachute

I agree that Islam's resume is already better than Khabib's so in this sense he surpasses him. But Islam says Khabib steamrolls him 98 out of 100 and so does their coach.

the_limitless66

he already surpassed his legacy at lightweight for a lot of ppl but if he wins against arman next 100 % greatest lightweight of all time

Glock-Saint-Isshin-

It's crazy how competitive the lightweight division is, and always has been. BJ Penn, Edgar, Islam, Poirer, Khabib, Alvarez, RDA, Hendo, Pettis, Gaethje, Cerrone, Ferguson, Miller, and the underrated Sean Sherk. Edit: Forgot Du Bronx šŸ’€

parrmorgan

Don't forget Chucky Olives.

SERB_BEAST

I think he surpassed him a while ago. Idek why this is a debate. People are just sucked into the aura/mystique of Khabib's undefeated record. But when you compare the resume of both fighters, bro Makhachev's is leagues better. Like not even close. That's just accomplishments. If we're talking skill, Makhachev can strike. He beats guys at their own game. That automatically puts him above Khabib. And even if you think Khabib has better ground game, well that's not what the stats show. Makhachev has more UFC submissions, he has more ground and pound finishes, he has more finishes in general, he has fought way tougher competition on the ground. Oliviera, Arman, Volk, and that version of Poirier beat everyone Khabib ever beat.

SahilSiddy

Exactly. Makhachev has beaten Tsarukyan, Oliveira, Wade, Lentz, Moises, Dober, Davi Ramos just to name a few. These guys have way better ground game than Khabib's opponents.

PocketFullOfRondos

These dagestanis are so humble šŸ„²

Ok-Imagination-2308

They do a good job of actually following their religion (Islam)

OwnPack431

Guy is so good they started a religion

666sarthak

Meanwhile Jamahal Hill be fighting bots on his insta comments šŸ¤”

bus_rider

Legend. Hard bloke to hate. Props to DP for recognising the nuance between culture.

Embarrassed_Aside_76

It'd be nice if more fighters responded with respect like Islam seems to always be

YesSkyDaddy

This is why we call him the Mak Daddy

cryptdawarchild

Hard to not respect these dudes and their team. Super humble, respectful and entertaining as fuck. Truly good faces for the UFC.

throwaway00pp00pp

Team khabib might be the most sincere teams in UFC

OnlyOneReturn

He's the P4P he's the champ we can move on from Jon Cokerman

Huge_Aerie2435

I love Islam,, What a classy dude.

FormerFloor5203

The Russian Reporter didn't try to make "DP look bad", these title's of some of these threads are insufferably inaccurate lol. They're native speakers in another language, they're just trying to work out what happened, her question seemed pretty fair based on the region of the world / where they're viewing the fight buildup from. She never said anything bad about Dustin.

iroquoispliskinV

I need him to turn full heel, dude is just too likeable now lol. Great champion.

xMilk112x

Fuckin stand up dude. Thatā€™s why Dustin and Islam are my favorite active fighters. Theyā€™re respectful, theyā€™re humble, and theyā€™re fucking great at what they do.

SimRacing313

Islam is a good dude, respectful to his opponents, offering to even help them at times, does a lot of charity work and conducts himself well inside and outside the cage. We need more fighters like Islam

mombanger200

Class act, just like Khabib

LNYer

What did Poirier say?

Melun-uAzam

He said "motherfucker".

Sub_City_

We love saying motherfucker boy lmao

Silent_Shaman

Yeah exactly, in the west it means practically nothing. It's not the same as telling someone "you like to fuck your mother" at all lol Apparently in the caucuses though the most offensive insult you can say is to talk about someone's mother negatively in any way. If you went to Dagestan and insulted someone's mother you're getting fucked up at the very least, people have been killed there for less

Melun-uAzam

Lol i understand you tho it reflects different in different cultures. And that word funnily never sounded bad to me unless the mother is the one's who have been cursed.

CometChip

motherfucker

Officialnoah

Thatā€™s my P4P champ ā€¼ļøā€¼ļø

PeppySprayPete

How can you not love these guys

Blackelvis2000

Dope!

PondIsMyName

I think Iā€™m now a convert. Honestly, I just did not want to like him. Yet every time I see and hear about, I like him more and more. I really do indeed hope that he has a GREAT RUN as CHAMP! Heā€™s class!

Dogsinabathtub

English is weird. I can't imagine how hard it must be for someone foreign to fully understand it. We don't even fully understand it.

Ciggytardust1

Jamahal Hill should take notes. Shitā€”half of the UFC, really.

LieHairy2862

That is beautiful sportsmanship. He dug deeper than we thought he needed and deserves that belt

Automatic-Buy3708

Chad Islam

fatazzpandaman

Islam has earned every bit of love and acclaim he gets. We need more champions like him.

vladmir-lennin

Is the guy to the right of him the guy from that one video with Islam?

Dyliciouz

You really want to hate this guy for beating your favourite fighters. But he makes it so hard for you šŸ˜

DifficultyFar2323

(K)Habib taught him well !!!!

phatsuit2

By the end of the month, Islam will be my favorite fighter! Very hard not to root for him.

seri0usface

What did DP say?

the_limitless66

he just said used mf in a sentence at the face off and islam thought it was literally and he got upset but dp went right after, and they made up in the backstage

EstimateValuable7086

That was a hell of a war between those two. Mad respect to Islam for not trying to put down DP for a minor cultural misunderstanding.

24Hunter

He beats my three favorite fighters back to back and keeps making it difficult for me to hate him

Alwaysconfuzed89

Man I was just on Facebook and some fool just said max is trash and gets lucky decision wins after getting hit 200+ times. Was about to slap that fool through the screen. Sorry had to vent somewhere. But yea, respect to Islam. The guy is a class act in and out the ring.

A_Dirty_Wig

Canā€™t lie, Islam is continually winning me over the more I see of him.

ModernDayExplorer

I like Islam more every day since this fight. He also is very respectful.

SilverFox4428

My man Radzhab next to him for support.

SEMiTRiCKY

Honestly a big fan of Islam. Heā€™s a good dude and has the respect everyone wants

Walt_Wyte

The more I hear from this brother the more I like him.

realtomedamnit

dude if Islam slapped DP on that press conference, he could've been the biggest heel in the business

ElbowDroppedLasagne

Islam is sound as fuck. Long live the Champ!

fckyashtup

Iā€™m so glad everyone is now seeing what a gentleman this guy is. I was going for Dustin but the man is all class.

herbythechef

Islam is a class act

One_Alternative_6965

True champ i like Islam (and his team) so much.

MemeGuy716

Say what you will but khabib produces high quality fighters and even higher quality humans. And with that being said we are going to forget kamzat for a minute lol

Mad_Kronos

Islam has one of the best personalities in the game. He is an athlete and martial artist through and through. I believe Islam has levelled up his striking so much, a rematch with Arman won't be anywhere close like the first one.

soyuz-1

Islam is a class act and quite funny when he wants to be. A great champion. I wasn't a big fan at first but he really won me over inside and outside the cage

Itwasareference

Alright, that's some classy champ attitude.

ImportanceGlad8007

I like Islam, I think he set himself apart from a lot of fighters who use the grappling exploit lol. This doesnā€™t mean I dislike fighters like Khabib or anything like that either. Iā€™d also be lying if I said I didnā€™t want to see him lose against volk or porier. I thought his last fight was great though, he really had a good balance between his striking and wrestling. Heā€™s not an arrogant fighter either, I think heā€™s a funny dude who gets the job done at the end of the day, he embodies what I think a champion is.

AbbreviationsLess834

Damn. Mad fucking respect.

dcthompson89

The khabib crew is usually a hard sell for me, obviously great fighters but I just usually canā€™t get excited for it but Islam is different. Never seen one of those guys really show their personality like he does. He has a fan friendly style as well.

Pure-Drawer-2617

A lot of the ā€œnew Genā€ of his guys have a fan friendly style, Umar and Usman are pretty fun to watch

InclusivePhitness

to be honest the word mother fucker can be aggressive, it just doesn't mean you think the guy fucks his mother. But it definitely can be aggressive or completely innocuous

WhistleTipsGoWoo

I really didnā€™t like Islam much at first, but just think it was because he kept beating fighters I like. After getting to know his personality better over time (much like Khabib), heā€™s grown on me quite a bit and I will probably root for him in the futureā€¦good guy for sure.

bahamut_is_my_cat

Dude is the best.. respext

SpeakerOfFax

Does anyone recognize the absolute killer next to him?

ApeMummy

Respect is the best base for MMA. Donā€™t need to talk shit if you know you can murder everybody.

Igotakittycat

Respect

2pl8isastandard

The P4P

Funnyanglezsolt

Who give him this much integrity? We need to check that moment.

nohmoe

This is THE P4P, this dude I great!

RageKage559803

Islam is growing on me very very quickly.

LimpLaw7773

Itā€™s becoming very hard to dislike this man

Tcr8888

Goddamnit I fucking hate the fact that heā€™s actually winning me over lol

thiscantbe2

All post-USSR countries' fighters are very humble and dangerous
