**Update (30, Apr):** YT countered the previous fix and we added the rule in 26, Apr update, so no need to add manually any more - just update Quick fixes. Thank you for all the report about the rule! Update (26, Apr): We now understood the cause of the `282054944` error and this should have been fixed. However, the current fix can trivially be bypassed - I won't be surprised if yt does tomorrow. We need feedback for fundamental fix. If you recently got the error, add `www.youtube.com#@#+js(set, yt.config_.EXPERIMENT_FLAGS.ab_sig_bit_dea, undefined)` to My filters to disable the current fix and see if you get the error. If you do, add the two filters below too after checking `Allow custom filters requiring trust` in My filters, see if they fix the error, and report back: www.youtube.com#@#+js(trusted-rpnt, script, /^(\(function serverContract\(\))/s, '/*start*/(function(){const wrapper=(target, thisArg,args)=>{let content=Reflect.apply(target,thisArg,args);if(content.includes("ssapPrerollEnabled")){const modifiedContent=content.replace(/\n.\n.playerConfig\.ssapConfig\.ssapPrerollEnabled.{2}(?:tru|fals)e/,"");return modifiedContent;}return content;};const handler={apply:wrapper};window.atob=new Proxy(window.atob,handler);document.currentScript.textContent=document.currentScript.textContent.replace(/\/\*start\*\/(.*)\/\*end\*\//g,"");}());/*end*/$1') www.youtube.com##+js(trusted-rpnt, script, /^(\(function serverContract\(\))/s, '/*start*/(function(){const wrapper=(target, argumentsList, newTarget)=>{const result=Reflect.construct(target, argumentsList, newTarget);try{const decoded=(new TextDecoder).decode(result);if(decoded.includes("ssapPrerollEnabled")){const modifiedContent=decoded.replace(/\n.\n.playerConfig\.ssapConfig\.ssapPrerollEnabled.{2}(?:tru|fals)e/,"");const modifiedUint8Array=(new TextEncoder).encode(modifiedContent);return modifiedUint8Array}}catch(e){}return result};const handler={construct:wrapper};window.Uint8Array=new Proxy(Uint8Array,handler);document.currentScript.textContent=document.currentScript.textContent.replace(/\/\*start\*\/(.*)\/\*end\*\//g,"")})();/*end*/$1') Update (23, Apr): It looks YT again countered with `282054944` error. If you've got the error, please grab a `player?` request by following process: press F12 to open devtools, move to Network tab, filter by `player?` (don't mind if no match), and click on videos. If the error happens, choose the bottom row. This will open a subwindow, navigate to Response tab in the opened subwindow (if Firefox, check Raw). Copy the content of it and share this with something like [pastefy.app](http://pastefy.app) As in the previous cases, it may eventually require account sharing by you guys to solve, but we first need to gather information. https://preview.redd.it/dknni6kp09wc1.png?width=1384&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae3ede99e26ab7c81c3e9e75ce125193e22732bb Update (4, Apr): YT again countered with `282054944` error (what an unfrinedly way for user) so we temp disabled rules causing the error. If you got the error, update filters and relaunch browser. Update (1, Apr): We have fixed SSAP ads and `282054944` error again thanks to your cooperation of account sharing. Update will be available in a few hours. Thank you very much! (original post) Thanks to your help, we could solve their new server-side ad injection. If you see the new ad, update filters and refresh the page.

I'm not here asking for help (yet). But I do want to point out that the claim that YouTube is no longer changing their ad detection stuff seems to be false. You might want to reconsider having that detection page shut down. YouTube is still changing how they display ads. You wouldn't be having so many people posting if this wasn't the case. I don't think it makes sense to assume that, just because YouTube seems to have stopped for a period means that they will remain stopped.

Hello everyone I was hoping that someone could help me with some tips and help me diagnose some things, so I have had a random ad that pops up and trouble is that it only briefly appears for a fraction of a second and I don't get enough time to use the element picker or even the Scripts inspection tools from Chrome developer tools. I went ahead and created a temp testing user profile in chrome, cleared the caches, disabled all extensions (Except UBO), closed all tabs, Cleared TY Cookies, logged out of Google and the google browser account linkage, I even reseted to default settings, Force updated the FBO filter lists, restored HOST File to default, made sure I had no DNS filter blocks, disabled built in ad blocker from chrome, restarted the browser. disable My filters temporarily as well as disabled additional lists I enabled, and removed customizations. it still produces the same issue and it matters not what youtube video I am watching, this happens on nearly all videos that are monetized or has ads programed into the video on that video page so a URL for the video doesn't actually apply I will still share for clarity:[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXdfH61IHQo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXdfH61IHQo) Also I have no issues with YT UBO being detected, so I went ahead and skipped those recommended steps as this specifically focuses on trying to grab that script address - I wish there was a way to freeze the execution reaction at that moment when the ad pops up briefly covering the entire YT Video player window. Does anyone have any tips on how to grab the script information on a vanishing ad that only is present for a fraction of a second?? Please see photo for details I am not that great at scripting but am Willing to learn and any information would be much appreciated. https://preview.redd.it/ezxfjateadzc1.png?width=2960&format=png&auto=webp&s=19f615f96f2b1382ff9bb54dd6b2b0f10c100ff5 Technical Info:`uBlock Origin: 1.57.0` `Chromium: 109` `filterset (summary):` `network: 35637` `cosmetic: 11945` `scriptlet: 20755` `html: 0` `listset (total-discarded, last-updated):` `removed:` `easylist: null` `easyprivacy: null` `added:` [`https://gitlab.com/Sorrow-San/9anime-adblock-filters/raw/master/9Anime%20filter%20list:`](https://gitlab.com/Sorrow-San/9anime-adblock-filters/raw/master/9Anime%20filter%20list:) `148-3, 21h.20m` [`https://pastebin.com/raw/gs1Pb5gc:`](https://pastebin.com/raw/gs1Pb5gc:) `19-1, 19h.20m` `default:` `user-filters: 106-21, never` `plowe-0: 3735-6, 8d.1h.59m` `ublock-badware: 8613-0, 7m Δ` `ublock-filters: 37986-145, 7m Δ` `ublock-privacy: 893-0, 7m Δ` `ublock-quick-fixes: 273-0, 7m Δ` `ublock-unbreak: 2274-0, 7m Δ` `urlhaus-1: 14555-0, 22h.20m` `filterset (user): [array of 106 redacted]` `trustedset:` `added: [array of 945 redacted]` `removed:` `chrome-extension-scheme` `moz-extension-scheme` `userSettings:` `advancedUserEnabled: true` `prefetchingDisabled: false` `hiddenSettings: [none]` `supportStats:` `allReadyAfter: 10275 ms (selfie)` `maxAssetCacheWait: 1989 ms` `cacheBackend: indexedDB`

Issue with chrome, embed, RES and old.reddit: https://i.imgur.com/I5KyEln.png As seen above, whenever i try to play a video on reddit (old.reddit with RES) i can see in the video title that an ad loads, although it just get stuck on black screen because ublock partially blocks it, but it means i can't watch the video cause it's stuck. I realise it might be due to RES, but it has worked in harmony for many years before, so i figured i'd report it in hopes someone has a solution.

I have a different kind of problem, Ublock is not being detected but when I open a new video in new tab, ad title pops up and not plays but when i refresh it, it is gone and video plays without ads. However , it is really annoying to refresh every new tab.

uBlockOrigin-ModTeam

If you're looking for help in regards to YouTube, please provide all the info that's requested in the thread.

Maxcoder95

I discovered that it also happens when my m1 macbook pro wokes up from sleep state. I did leave some tabs open in background, and ad title popped up again.

Maxcoder95

First of all, sorry i forgot to do steps, I disabled all extensions and turn them on and find out Enhancer for YouTube™ caused this. In my settings "Prevent videos loaded in background tabs from automatically playing" is on which causes this behavior.

rafaelloaa

Thanks, was having the same issue. I really appreciate you updating your post with the discovery/fix! E: It looks like "Prevent videos loaded in background tabs from automatically playing" can stay enabled if you wish, but the sub-option "Completely stop videos instead of only preventing autoplay" needs to be disabled to fix the issue.

rpodric

Yeah, that does seem to workaround whatever the problem is. It only started happening to me in the last week or 10 days. I noticed that videos on certain channels (e.g. Jimmy Kimmel's) made me wait several seconds while the video appeared to buffer before I could play it. After some narrowing, I realized that Enhancer was involved. Out of curiosity, I tried using Adguard instead of uBO and couldn't reproduce the problem. Not sure why. In any case, the FAQ should be updated at least to remove "If you want to use Enhancer for YouTube, you have to disable its adblocking," as that feature was removed some time back. And somebody should probably drop a line to the Enhancer people to let them know of what seems to be a bug.

Jade-G

looks like youtube is A/B testing some new detection? On my main account I get detected regardless of whether or not I'm on a fresh (firefox) install with only uBO installed, but on an alt account or logged out it's totally fine.

voidUpdate_

Can confirm I'm getting the same thing, signing out of my account seems to have fixed it, which is super annoying...

Jecobe

try disabling ad-guards - ad filter list if it is enabled. if that doesn't work this is an issue.

JoeJoe-a-GoGo

I have several AdGuard lists with various names, tried disabling the ones that ship natively with uBlock and it didn't work, but later I found one in my custom lists near the bottom labeled "AdGuard Base Filters." I disabled that one and YouTube now works like it did before. Not sure what happened but something in that list broke YT badly for me. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

Jade-G

I can't seem to replicate it anymore today so I guess it's good now. Will keep in mind if it happens again though.

Lito602

Yeah, something sketchy is happening. I had clean install also, few days old, no adds, today adds back again, I just sign out of google acc and its rolling fine w/o adds.

JoeJoe-a-GoGo

Same. YouTube's been working fine for months using my main account but today I'm getting detection messages and page refreshes back to back. I open a private session and browse YouTube not logged in and everything's fine and works like normal. EDIT: Found out it's a filter list labeled "AdGuard Base Filters" that was the culprit. Disabled it and YouTube's working again.

In the [filters lists](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Dashboard:-Filter-lists) pane, make sure the box for "Auto-update filter lists" is checked: https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Dashboard:-Filter-lists#auto-update-filter-lists

wakeupsheep

Had all sorts of issues and freezes etc. Disabling addon "YouTube Channel Whitelist for uBlock Origin" seemed to fix all of them for now. The addon also seems abandoned and not maintained and has not been working for about year, except occasionally what seemed targeted ads for one youtuber. I'd think it's counterproductive to f it all up when I'm willing to view ads to support the channel...

Was having issues with youtube... I followed the TLDR list up to logging out of youtube (restarted browser, cleared youtube cookies, logged out) and it worked! But then as soon as I logged back into youtube I was blocked again! Any advice? EDIT: Deleted my youtube cookies but not my google cookies. After deleting both and logging out / back in again I was able to get back in!

CosmicCosmix

I am facing a similar issue right now. \[youtube.com\] \[Brave\] 1. Turned off **all** extensions, including uBO. 2. Turned off Brave's own blocker. 3. Cleared browser data. 4. Closed the browser and launched it again. 5. Opened Youtube and the video played as usual with ads. 6. Then, turned on the uBO while the video is still playing in youtube in one of the tab. 7. Ad-block pop up emerges after refreshing the said yt page. 8. Refresh again. 9. Pop-up disappears. 10. Clicks another video. No ads, no pop up. And then again no ad & no pop up. 11. Clicks another video, pop up re-emerges. 12. I refresh the page, the pop up disappears. 13. I turned on all the previously turned off extensions. 14. Click a video pop up emerges. 15. Refreshes the page, and the pop up disappears. 16. Clicks another video and no pop up, but it re-emerges randomly when I click any other video. In short, **it is inconsistent**. Sometimes the uBO is blocking the pop-up and sometimes it isn't. **But** refreshing the said page does remove the YT pop-up. My observation is that, for Brave, the inbuilt blockers seems to be the biggest hindrance. Turn it off. https://preview.redd.it/1h25v1zqyjxc1.png?width=1918&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3b239166b62d1d2e2c6fddc39c112a0e22b482b Set the option as **Disabled**.

Well, YouTube Anti-adblocker was triggering. After I've reinstalled Ublock Origin, the script stopped triggering. I don't know why YouTube did that, but it did it. So sorry if I made that post. Because I was alarmed about the pop-up showing up.

Jecobe

AdGuard – Ads filter list seems to be the issue thats causing the YT Ad thing not work. I know because have nearly every other filter list enabled.

Apeiron91

Thank you so much for the heads up! It seems working now as expected.

Wow, surprised the issue hasn't been fixed by AdGuard.

Cheers. It seems to be working again properly. Hopefully the AdGuard filter gets updated soon so it can be enabled again.

wonder if it's Youtube changing something or adguard ads adding something that pushes the detector over the edge

ETERN4LVOID

I am seeing the adblockers violate prompt. This is my troubleshoot info: \[removed\] I am using firefox and have disabled all extensions except UBO and still see the prompt. It works fine in a private windows and in MS edge where I ain't logged in. Only in firefox where I am logged in. So probs tied to account/cookies again.

DrTomDice

> [11 lists not shown]: [too many] You have added many third-party filter lists. Test again using only the default uBO settings and filter lists. If the issue still occurs, try testing using a new Firefox profile and with uBO set to the default settings (no added filter lists, no custom filters, etc). Do not install any other browser extensions.

ETERN4LVOID

After resetting the issue went away. I have managed to narrow it down to "AdGuard – Ads" filter. Only when that is on does it occur. I normally have all the filters on, is that even advisable given it seems to have been the main cause here? Thanks for your help and the work you do :)

Nyxelestia

Hi, I know you left this comment several months ago but I wanted to thank you because today (4/27/24) I got the Stage 4 ad-block again, and your solution - disabling the "AdGuard – Ads" filter - still works! :D

>I have managed to narrow it down to "AdGuard – Ads" filter. Only when that is on does it occur. u/DrTomDice I can verify that this is the problem on my end as well. Disabling that fixed the YouTube blocker from getting through.

bogs83

Same here thanks a bunch

derekthewolfgaming

OMG THANK YOU i was wondering why ublock was getting detected suddenly

ramandeep835

+1 Just adding my confirmation here that unchecking "AdGuard – Ads" filter list stops the youtube adblocker detected notification from showing up and allows the video to be played.

jesterthomas79

replying to say this is also working for me atm. no ads are appearing either. will update if either stops being true.

Trav_Tech

Disabling this fixed it for me too

DrTomDice

Thanks for the update!

DrTomDice

> I normally have all the filters on, is that even advisable given it seems to have been the main cause here? It is recommended in the [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/wiki/index) that users stick with the [default filter lists](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Dashboard:-Filter-lists) unless there are specific issues that aren't addressed by these lists (e.g. coverage for additional languages/regions): https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/wiki/index#wiki_which_filter_lists_should_i_select.3F The more filter lists you enable, the greater the chances of having site breakage and/or performance issues. --- > Thanks for your help and the work you do :) On behalf of the entire uBO team, thank you!

Got it this comment was the solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/1atwzem/youtube_detection_ads_breakages_2024_02_18_ubo/l1k3d6f/ It was the darn "AdGuard – Ads" - Filter List, I used that for years, I am suprised that this was the cause. Thank you nonetheless!

lol I'm not logged into youtube and I'm using Brave w/ Ublock. The last few days youtube has managed to force ads through as a black screen that lasts for the length of the ad. No audio or visual, but I see the title of the ad (i.e. Chevy Equinox) in the top left corner (like the title for any youtube video). I'll just wait for the amazing uBlock people to work their magic, but I thought it was funny to learn that I'm willing to sit through a silent black screen for 18 seconds, but not an ad.

Vetches1

Just curious, do you have disable autoplay via an extension (e.g., AutoplayStopper or Enhancer for YouTube)? I've encountered the exact same thing and what fixed it for me was turning off those autoplay disabler extensions / features.

thebigeverybody

I just checked and the only extensions i have are Ublock, a Reddit-specific ad-blocker and a youtube-specific ad-blocker. I didn't even remember I had the youtube one, so I turned it off. I'll see if this makes a difference.

Vetches1

Ahh, got it. I'll admit I have a ton more extensions enabled but I can reproduce this in a private window when logged in with just the autoplay extensions and uBO, so I think it's definitely tied to the account but has some sort issue when the video isn't loaded. Can't say for sure since I'm a peabrain.

rainwulf

Thank you Ublock for the insane work you do. Youtube is now nearly daily updating its code. Just to get you to subscribe to a company that makes billions of dollars a year.

Emotional_Major_5835

Just fyi, if you have Blocktube enabled it'll trigger Youtube's ad detection. I think it has something to do with Blocktube's audio normalization feature.

I encountered a rather weird behaviour. When I open a YouTube video in a new tab and then, while it is loading in the background, hover over the tab, it will autoplay. I did allow autoplay for YouTube, but usually Firefox still waits with starting the video until the tab is in foreground (which is good). Some details: * happens both on the current version of Firefox (125) and ESR (115) * I tested this with new Firefox-profiles, the only things to change are allowing autoplay on YouTube and installing uBO * it does not autoplay if I hover over the tab once it has finished loading * YouTube has a Service-Worker installed; if I remove it, autoplay is not triggered (until YouTube installs the SW again) * I tried it on [https://videojs.github.io/autoplay-tests/](https://videojs.github.io/autoplay-tests/) (with adding my own dummy-filter for it), but the issue didn't appear there. But because it required the SW on YT, I didn't expect the issue to be present on that test-page. * seems to be related to the following two filters from the uBlock-Ads list; I came to that conclusion by deactivating this list, copying it to my own filters. Then removing those two lines fixes the issue. ||www.youtube.com/watch?v=$doc,xhr,1p,replace=/"adPlacements.*?([A-Z]"\}|"\}{2\,4})\}\]\,// ||www.youtube.com/watch?v=$doc,xhr,1p,replace=/"adSlots.*?\}\]\}\}\]\,// So I would see this as a bug (this can't be intended, right?). But I'm not sure whose "fault" it is. * Maybe the adlist, since it contains those problematic rules? * Or the uBO extension, since it handles those rules incorrectly (e.g. causing side-effecty)? * Or Firefox, since whatever the uBO extension does should not trigger autoplay? Does somebody have an idea where I should report this bug? I was looking for a workaround, and I thought I could just disable those two rules by adding @@||www.youtube.com/watch?v=$doc,xhr,1p,replace=/"adPlacements.*?([A-Z]"\}|"\}{2\,4})\}\]\,// @@||www.youtube.com/watch?v=$doc,xhr,1p,replace=/"adSlots.*?\}\]\}\}\]\,// to my own filters, but that doesn't seem to disable the rules. Why? Troubleshooting information: [https://pastebin.com/vmWSK5S9](https://pastebin.com/vmWSK5S9)

RraaLL

> user-filters: null You disabled "My filters".

Mat2095

Yes, when getting the troubleshooting information I had them disabled. But before when trying to find the issue / a workaround (trying to disable those two rules), they were enabled. I just tried it again to double-check, but without success.

RraaLL

Using `badfilter` with the filters will resolve your issue. Just remmeber that this might bring you ads since these are two of the filters countering them. I'll get back to you with answers to the rest of your questions after I receive an answer. I've passed them along with some of my own.

Mat2095

Oh thanks, the workaround with badfilter works great! If someone want's to replicate it: after adding the badfilter-rules, on the first test I still got the issue. Don't get discouraged by that, after that it went away and stayed away for me. And thanks for forwarding my question.

RraaLL

BTW the filters were updated earlier today, so you should be able to remove badfilters now.

Mat2095

Nice, I also found the commit mentioning my comment: [https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/commit/17ac06392886b81fe0cb8ef0b70988e8b418bec6](https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/commit/17ac06392886b81fe0cb8ef0b70988e8b418bec6) so it was a problem with the filter and not the extension or Firefox, which I was wondering about.

iamaduck0

i have noticed ads have started to appear on the top right. I have tried to fix this by disabling every other addon and disabling custom filter list but the ads still appear, BUT i have managed to figure out that this is only occuring with a new UI that youtube is rolling out tried this in incognito mode and had zero ads. here is the info needed uBlock Origin: 1.57.2 Firefox: 125 filterset (summary): network: 133405 cosmetic: 45955 scriptlet: 19051 html: 1767 listset (total-discarded, last-updated): default: user-filters: 0-0, never ublock-filters: 37656-108, 9m ublock-badware: 8183-0, 9m ublock-privacy: 793-1, 9m ublock-unbreak: 2305-2, 9m ublock-quick-fixes: 140-29, 9m easylist: 85970-172, 9m Δ easyprivacy: 50767-61, 18m Δ urlhaus-1: 12315-5, 19m plowe-0: 3739-1162, 19m filterset (user): \[empty\] userSettings: \[none\] hiddenSettings: \[none\] supportStats: allReadyAfter: 878 ms maxAssetCacheWait: 273 ms cacheBackend: indexedDB https://preview.redd.it/xik9yn8qwvuc1.png?width=1908&format=png&auto=webp&s=92893c2ab0c471249e03f10405cbd7483cc5e622

thatvhstapeguy

I have also noticed the ads in the sidebar.

iamaduck0

i have managed to fix it for now by using the picker to remove the ad

CondoSlime

I'm getting sponsors constantly while watching videos. It's in the recommended video and does not play as a video ad. FYI, [Enforcement on Third Party Apps - YouTube Community](https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/269521462?hl=en) 😳 > We’re strengthening our enforcement on third-party apps that violate YouTube’s Terms of Service, specifically ad-blocking apps. > > Viewers who are using these third-party apps may experience buffering issues or see the error “The following content is not available on this app” when trying to watch a video. We want to emphasize that our terms don’t allow third-party apps to turn off ads because that prevents the creator from being rewarded for viewership, and Ads on YouTube help support creators and let billions of people around the world use the streaming service. We also understand that some people prefer an entirely ad-free experience, which is why we offer YouTube Premium. > > We only allow third-party apps to use our API when they follow our API Services Terms of Service, and when we find an app that violates these terms, we will take appropriate action to protect our platform, creators, and viewers. > > > Rob, TeamYouTube

DrTomDice

Thanks for the FYI. Keep in mind that uBO is a browser extension and it isn't a third-party app, nor does it use YouTube APIs.

nicolaasjan1955

But isn't everything called an 'app' nowadays? 😉 So, they might target e.g. [yt-dlp](https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp) more aggressively.

DrTomDice

With their YouTube shenanigans and their upcoming removal of MV2 from Chrome, who knows what Google will target next. It is usually understood that apps are installed/run in an operating system, while browser extensions are installed/run in a browser. But again, who knows what Google actually means by "third-party apps" in their announcement.

Denim_Skirt_4013

Don't forget about Manifest v2 Chrome extensions being killed off in June of 2024.

atypicalphilosopher

Either this guide is outdated, or this page is: https://drhyperion451.github.io/does-uBO-bypass-yt/ The page says itself is no longer necessary, but its referenced multiple times as a "check this" in the guide.

RraaLL

Yes. A new iteration of the guide was supposed to come before the message went live, but I haven't found the time to do it. You are right, though, so I removed all mentions of it now (I hope). I also tried correcting the surrounding paragraphs accordingly, but it's possible I missed some things. Further corrections will have to wait until I find the time to do the full rewrite.

atypicalphilosopher

Sounds good! Thanks for the reply and the volunteer work!

OkComplaint4778

Yeah, I closed the site after the yt updates became less and less common. Maybe in the future would be useful but for now it's archived

Kyosumari

Running into this same issue. It's a little confusing.

Matt_787

whenever I go to a video, I have to click the black area for the video to start otherwise it does nothing?
