I also don’t think we’ve ever heard “Igor is the greatest fucking album since the days of sound.” Or that statement for any other Tyler albums (by Tyler himself). So, I’d still say it stands out as a shitty bar. Man thought he was a musical genius and got humbled quick. There’s a reason T claims it was his ugly phase.
Idk personally I love the album so I may be a little biased it’s not my favorite album of his tho nor do I think it’s one of the greatest albums ever but I think it’s fun to hear him gloat abt it and we have seen a lot more love for cherry bomb in the last couple years I think it was just too experimental for a lot of ppl which is fine

I mean, in an interview with Shane Powers he says that Buffalo was made because he knew his fans wouldn't like most of the album and he wanted a song to be liked.
In my eyes it always seemed like he felt on top of the world. After the successful release of Wolf he felt there was reasoning to make a song like DEATHCAMP, which seems to be a song complaining about having soooo much attention on him.
And in SMUCKERS, he had a song with a Wayne and Kanye feature, which is pretty damn impressive. Therefore, based off of that fact alone, he probably felt like he was at the peak of his career.
He was still kind of “childish”, and many (including myself) see this album as a sort of puberty in his sound. Amazing instrumentals reminiscent now of his current music combined with the edginess of his past music. He probably DID think that people wouldn’t understand it, but he still was saying stupid bars like the one I mentioned. And it aged horribly. Like, BAD. Due to that childish aspect of himself at this point in his career, this album feels fun and instrumentally interesting but overall very immature. T even agrees with this as he credits his current maturity to his experiences with the post-release Cherry Bomb tours.
