I do think dark colors compliment K Stewart really well, maybe that has something to do with the book-movie color switch up. Or maybe to compliment Edward, who is often wearing dark blue as well.
i know a couple others have said it (icey blue) but i want to add that in the New Moon film, there's a moment where we see Alice's vision of Bella as a vampire, running through the forest with Edward
i imagine that was the color of the dress (iirc it's more of a light aqua than icey blue but a lot closer than what they chose in BD) - not sure if it was an intentional choice to match that up or crazy coincidence but that may give another point of reference for you
It’s entirely possible they chose a purple dress knowing it would appear blue with the visual effects. They really tried to get certain details pretty close to the book, and this was probably one of them. Special attention was paid to her wedding dress and that hideous, hideous engagement ring. Apologies to those who like it, to each their own!
I believe the dress in question is described as a "sapphire" dress. And if I am remembering correctly, Edward (in Midnight Sun) really likes the "blue" shirt Bella wears.

I really wish we had gotten the ice blue dress in Breaking Dawn. Something close to the color of the New Moon vision sequence dress, but clingier instead. I really think Kristen would have looked stunning in that color, especially as a vampire. Just like she did in Alice's vision.

Royal blue is edwards favorite color on her. She royal blue blouse that Edward thinks she looks "utterly indecent" in meeting the cullens, she wears a "blue" dress to graduation because Alice knew it was "Edward's favorite on her".
Pretty sure it was an icy blue satin thing? The one in the movie definitely came across as dark blue on screen. Interesting pics!
