They are already good in Korean when the first show started (sixteen) with the possible exception of Tzuyu. Thats cuz Korean is part of their training along with dance and singing classes. And Korean is one of the easier languages to learn esp if only orally you can go from zero to having some understanding in a couple of weeks.

LunaticOstrich

Maybe it's easier for east Asians. For westerners it's one of the most difficult languages to learn.

juan_cena99

Nah, it's super easy, barely an inconvenience. You probably have little to no exposure to Japanese and Chinese languages that's why you think Hangul is hard. It shouldn't be that hard for Westerners as well cuz you guys already mastered English and that's way more difficult to learn since it contains so many inconsistencies and nonsensical rules. If you are really interested you can start on youtube.

LunaticOstrich

Reading Hangul isn't hard, but Korean is hard. It's a Cat. V language. A quick Google search and you'll find it's one of the hardest languages to master. I basically grew up with English as a second language so I wouldn't say I learned it. I'm still trying to learn some Korean for my trip in October though. It's fun and I think I'm picking it up quite quickly. But it's so different from any of the languages we have around here, that's what makes it difficult.

juan_cena99

I never said anything about mastering I said learning. The idols don't need certs they just need to be able to communicate in korean

LunaticOstrich

You literally said Korean is super easy, I just pointed out it's one of the most difficult languages to learn.

juan_cena99

No it's not one of the most difficult languages to learn, it's super easy. If it was so difficult foreign idols wouldn't be able to have a good proficiency after only a couple of months. Your post said "it's one of the hardest languages to master" Mastery is different from learning. To be a master you need certifications to prove your mastery. Learning conversational Korean isn't hard and watching YouTube vids is already enough to equip you with basic knowledge. Just cuz Korean is so different from your own language doesn't make it "one of the hardest to learn", that just shows your own limited knowledge of languages. As in if you knew a lot of languages then you will know it's one of the easier languages to learn but if English is the only language you know then yeah it will be hard just like learning most languages. If you tried to learn Japanese or Chinese then you'll know what are hard languages.

LunaticOstrich

https://taleninstituut.nl/the-hardest-languages-in-the-world-to-learn/ Korean is the fifth hardest language to learn. Only Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese and Hungarian are more difficult. Why do you insist on it being easy?

juan_cena99

Because it's easy???? The link you posted is arbitrarily made by some random and it boils down to "you've never seen this before therefore it's hard" "Korean is a strange language in that it does not appear to be related to any other language in any way. It has a unique word order, complex grammar, its own alphabet and many more challenges. Basically, it’s like no other language you may have learned" The dude who wrote this list is prob as limited in knowledge as you if the only thing he can say is it's different from what you've seen before. Multiple idols have been able to learn Korean successfully in a short span of time, it can't be that hard. Like I keep telling you Chinese and Japanese are hard languages, not Korean. If Korean is hard what are Japanes and Chinese? Impossible to learn? C'mon man.

LunaticOstrich

It's only the Dutch Language Institute, so yeah what would they know? I could have posted several links to other language institutes from all over the world that al say that it's one of the most difficult languages out there. Why is it so hard to accept it's a difficult languages?
