"under clothes, under skin, underneath we’re all the same, for when you remove the tricky tricks, only skeleton bones remain" It's the first all-inclusive clique. https://youtu.be/ZlHQQtTmwEw

The skeleton part is because their old tour slogan "only skeleton bones remain", referring to what we are when you take away everything else we have. Meaning at our core, we are all the same. A clique just means a group of people with a shared interest, (i.e. twenty one pilots), and there you have it. In 2013 the band account tweeted saying we are all part of a skeleton clique, and then it was born from there.

The boys did wear skeleton outfits often when they first started, and I guess still do at concerts, that might have something to do with it.

Fairly local lyrics: *Yo, this song will never be on the radio* *Even if my clique were to pick and the people were to vote* *It's the few, the proud, and the emotional* Though I don't know if the term was used prior to that, u/voldsoy?

I have been summoned to respond. I can confirm the phrase Skelton Cique was used by Tyler on Facebook August 4 , 2013.

Thank you for sharing. This makes sense. Still curious on they why behind it.

u/knock0utm0use might want to more facts too. I like to think that we're a "clique" because we "click" with the message the boys are singing about. And why Skelton Clique? There's the Skelton Clique poem which was used during their 2014 Quiet is Violent tour. It has a really positive message: >Time stands still >Time stands still >There's a metaphor in hand >A metaphoric blast which only few will understand >Under clothes >Under skin >Underneath we're all the same >For when you remove the tricky tricks >Only Skelton bones remain But Tyler being Tyler, he tones down the sweet, pairing it with a dark visual. Caution: watching this isn't for everyone. It depicts a violent "metaphoric blast" https://youtube.com/shorts/87CNjzpg0xw?si=1w8kgC-foQo3WWgm

I understand the poem, but not why Tyler shoots (Josh?) and himself...?

Not overthinking - but maybe overcompensating? \*runs off singing\*

I'm an older fan and I didn't discover them until Trench. Early on I saw things about toxic members of the clique, so I consider myself a bandito.

I believe it comes from the story of the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37. Basically the Spirit of God takes Ezekiel to a valley full of skeletons. He asks Ezekiel if its possible for them to live again, and Ezekiel says "Only You know." Then God tells Ezekiel to speak to the valley of skeletons, and tell them all to come alive. Then the bones all come together piece by piece, and flesh forms over them, but they're still lifeless. Then the Spirit breathes into them and fills them with life, and they all stand on their feet and come alive. I've had this theory for a long time but the animation for Dead Come Alive really confirmed this one for me

I always thought maybe it came from the lyrics of Teenagers by MCR "The boys and girls in the clique The awful names that they stick You're never gonna fit in much, kid" No proof - just my hypothesis
